Very nice venue. Arrived at 12:30am. It was very hot this night inside. Took a while to cool down but at least it did after 1 hour. Females were worried about their faces melting. Just have to go one level up to get to the main lounge about 20 steps. Hold on to the rails coming down after a night of drinking. At the end of the night I noticed they had a in-wall photobooth. That definitely makes this lounge stand out especially with me being in the photo booth business. I didn't receive 1 out of 2 of the pictures emailed bcz I'm pretty sure I was too tipsy & misspelled my long email on the touch screen. Wish they had it to wear you can text message as an additional option. About 5 gender neutral restrooms and someone was there to guide when the next restroom was available so it made the line go fast. Overall really venue. Looks renovated recently too. read more

In the days when Current was Dragonfly, they had a roll that was obsessed with: The Olga Roll. When Dragonfly shut down a few years back, I was tortured with the thought that I may never have my marinated shiitake, smoked salmon and crunchy goodness every again. That is, until I found out that they were keeping their sushi chefs! Hip, hip, hooray! I must admit however, that although the sushi is very tasty it's definitely overpriced. One tuna and avocado roll ran my girlfriend $7.00 last night after happy hour. For a trendy little spot, Current has some great happy hour deals. $4 Rolls: Salmon avocado Spicy tuna Yellowtail w/scallions $5 Beer & Martinis $6 Wine Otherwise, you will be looking to spend $12-$13 on their gourmet signature cocktails and martinis. I can hate on the price, but I must admit I've had some pretty mean cocktails here. I heard that the general concept of the Current was to model it off a yacht, with the upstairs lounge area being the top deck. The little square windows on the floor upstairs, allow you to peer through the moving water and take a blurry glance downstairs. Everything is clear, white and/or very modern. A little advice: *Be careful walking down the stairs - they are clear, thin, and long so it's a little hard to tell where one step begins and where the other ends. *If taking a trip to the upstairs bathroom, make sure that you properly lock the door. It's a see through door, that fogs up when it locks. Some people are confused by this concept and sit on the toilet while others watch. Don't be that person. read more

I came here for happy hour, and it did make me pretty happy. The appletinis were only $5 until 7 p.m., and it tasted like a green Jolly Rancher. The annoying thing about happy hour is that they don't let you sit at a table, even though the entire restaurant was empty. **Restaurant Review*** We came here for a living social deal, and of course it was the last night to use it. According to the host this place was already full but we could wait for a seat at the bar. As we stood (because everyone at the bar was as last minute as us) there drinking our $5 happy hour martinis and watched empty tables not get filled during two possible seating times, the natives were getting restless. I know a couple of reviews mentioned the "scene" and feeling dressed up to eat here. Granted the place looks modern and trendy, with lighted counters, white mod design and has attractive staff but that's not the impression I get at all. One hour later, we had a seat at the sushi bar. After the sashimi tasting(yellowtail was the best selection), and the spicy tuna roll and then the dragon roll, this place is forgiven. This is the freshest tastiest sushi I have had in DC. I would highly recommend the dragon roll, cause it has seared eel on the top, and sesame seeds around the roll itself. The spicy tuna was phenomonal. The prices are high but the happy hour specials are quite affordable. After happy hour the prices however double. The staff is great and service was spot on. We had a great server, Bethany who made some appreciated recommendations. The sushi chefs were fun to watch and interact with. Club review only, wish I could have tried the sushi but all I got was drinking and dancing. Went there on a Friday evening, my friend put us on the guest list, there was no problem getting in. They weren't like many clubs that have a free before 11 that hold the line to limit free entry. They let us in pretty quickly. From 10 to 11 there is an open bar but good luck trying to get a drink. There are 2 bartenders and like 50 people all trying to get their attention, best thing for you to do is get there early, grab a spot at the bar and post up until 11. Throw the bartender a nice tip on the first drink so he'll look your way on the refill. Drinks were decent, had a tequila sunrise and two blue motorcycles, the sunrise was free the motorcycles were 12 bucks each, not bad for the amount of different alcohols in this one drink. Music is good, mostly today's hip hop mixed with some older hip hop jams to get the crowd moving. There are three levels, the downstairs, the upstairs and then the rooftop covered patio, all areas have their own DJ and different music going. The upstairs area is small and there is little room to dance as more than half of the upstairs area is roped off for table service and people are walking through the dance floor to go to the bathroom or the patio. One downside to this place is they allow smoking on the patio, I hate smoke in anyplace especially a enclosed one, yes there is a rooftop patio but when you have a covering over the patio even though it is outside it is still an enclosed space and the smoke lingers. Staff was friendly, no obnoxious doormen, bouncers or bartenders. All in all a cool place to spend an evening especially if you take advantage of the guest list and open bar. read more

I'm not one you'll find partying in DC very often but when I do I like to find a place with a good crowd, good music and good drinks! This place at least had two of the three.. The drinks were decent for an open bar, and the music was classic 90s hip hop and R&B while we were there but the crowd was not really my scene.. We didn't stay late and maybe that's when all the "cool" kids come out but I seriously was not impressed.. Cool spot! Visited Rosebar on a random Friday night. My girls and I decided to enjoy Valentine's Day as hot singles and ended up at Rosebar. --Club/Happy Hour Review Only-- I came here for a charity happy through meetup. The happy hour actually ended during the time we were there, and man was there a price jump! I got a vodka cranberry for $5 during the hh, then it jumped to $8 or $9. I only had a couple the whole night then switched to simple cranberry juice which it in itself was $4 alone. Drink prices are good for happy hour, and once the night progresses on you fill up during happy hour -- you won't care about what the price is since you'll be tipsy anyway. That seemed to be the case with most people here...except me. I like the ambiance. It is a good mix of intimate and modern. There was ample standing room since tables were cleared for mingling. There is a covered bar on the 2nd floor which I assume becomes a patio when weather is appropriate. Bathrooms were a horrible mess. I can assume due to the high volume of people, it was difficult to keep everything straight. At the same time though, I think the bar staff should refill them with TP periodically. Just a suggestion... Overall experience was pretty fun! Great music with a solid mix of techno and dance with some rap (very loud though... Few girls and I went here for Restaurant Week since it had both dining and lounge. The place was right near the 1223 lounge that was closed down. The weather called for windy and degrees in the teens, which means a one-stop place was the perfect setting for a girls' night out. Upon entering the facility, the decor was very trendy with lit stairs and small square tables scattered around. We didn't get a reservation so the wait time would've been an hr; therefore, we opted to sit at the bar area for sushi. The bar tables were also lit which created a really nice ambiance. Our waitress was so nice and so accomodating and the sushi was just delish. The only complaint we had were the drinks according to my gfs. I typically opt for water most of the time since I'm not a drinker. If you want sake, order it warm, bc it typically comes chilled. Also they ordered a mojito later and the drink was a bit watered down. For $12 a drink, I could see why you would want to get your money's worth and our waitress was more than happy to go back and ask the bartender to fix it. A watered down drink would've probably been fine with me. Which reminded me of a funny story in Vegas at a pool bar when I had asked for a pina colada with just a tinge of alcohol and the bartender looked at me and said he never heard anyone ask for that - haha. Ah well. =P After dinner and some good chats, we headed upstairs for the lounge. There is a dance area and also another area in the back that ppl can hang around but was also outside and too cold for us to stay there. The place didn't pick up till about 10pm, so we waited till then and checked our coats for $4. I can't wait for summer when we don't need to do that! As for music spun by DJ Tektronics, I must say was off the hook! We danced till it was almost closing time and this doesn't usually happen anymore for us - haha. He usually spins there every Friday for anyone who wants to hear him. He had all sorts of different mix from club mix to hip hop and even some that I've never heard but since the beat was just great, I kept on dancing. Security and management at Rose bar is aggressive, unprofessional, poorly managed, not held accountable for their actions, and quite frankly ghetto. They are going down hill and it's sad. I am a second year law student who works weekends as a server and planned what was suppose to be a great birthday at Rose Bar. I paid for a section two bottles and hookah but ended up being dragged down the steps by security in my dress and heels for a supposed altercation. I asked to speak the manager after I was put out without my phone, purse, or coat (in February) even though I asked to gather my belongings. Security told me no and would no answer me as to why I was being put out. Security just proceeded to push, pick me up and pull me down the stairs. When I finally got to speak to the manager outside she told me that she didn't know what the altercation was or why it lead to this point. Nonetheless, I was never refunded my money or allowed back in the club (which at this point I didn't want to go back in anyway). I sustained a head injury, a scarped knee and scratched arms from their security. It was very unprofessional and escalated because of their security wrongfully putting their hands on me with no specific reason given ever. The establishment is just looking to make a quick dollar and is poorly run. Very Ghetto. I have never been subjected to something like this in my life. I would not recommend anyone to spend money there for a section. read more

This is a review for the lounge upstairs only. I went to Current for a mixer this past weekend, that was being held upstairs in the lounge. Overall, not bad. A set of "floating" stairs led you to a trendy, but cozy lounge. There were seats along the walls with small tables and a DJ's booth. The bar is of good size and the bartenders worked in quick order. They offered up the general liquors and beers and were priced in comparison to what you would find in other lounges in DC. Overally, it was a nice place. Wood plank floors, swanky bathrooms and plenty of room to chill. I would not mind coming back on a Friday or Saturday night to see what the place was all about minus the mixer. read more

Came for the food rather than the scene. I could be comfortable at the bar, if I were dressed better and in the mood for it. Unfortunately, grungy work duds and a rainy evening made us focus on the aquatic video feed in order to tolerate the semi-populated techno scene. Both of us picked the mixed seaweed salad as the first tasting item, since we're equally capable of making a regular salad at home. The fresh wakame seaweed dominated the salad with a healthy dash of sesame seeds. The kelp, carrot, green onions, and frisee were all julienned to mix evenly with the rest of the salad. The soy oil and sambai vinegar dressing complemented this first course well. My raised eyebrows were not judgmental enough to keep Hyunoo from getting edamame next. No comment there except warm and gently salted. My shrimp and vegetable wontons were slightly disappointing. I think the freshness of the Napa cabbage and onions provided enough water content to steam the wonton from the inside, leaving very little crispness to the fried exterior except for at the tips. Its lime and ginger dipping sauce did little to excite my palate, but I still appreciated the chubby little purses. Sushi cuts were beautiful, but only average quality for the area. Yellowtail was outshone by the tuna, and the shrimp was about what we expected, but the white tuna certainly surprised me in freshness. Hyunoo was more displeased with the salmon than I was, but I understood where he was coming from. Hyunoo does a wonderful job of singing praises of the pan-seared tilapia. While I was unimpressed by the zucchini and baby carrots, the sake beurre blanc sauce paired beautifully with the fish. My Japanese skewers were on par with what I've had from better Chinese hole-in-the-wall joints. The chicken yakitori was tender and moist, closely followed in favoritism by the skirt steak, with the inappropriately marinated BBQ pork in dead last. The steamed vegetables and sticky rice balanced out the heavy saucing. Flan was creamy, but I've had better. The taste of green tea sorbet made me realize that clearly I should have opted for the yokan, or the intriguing coconut or bourbon nut ice creams. Service was friendly, if confused. Perhaps the phrasing of the menu was just Engrished, but "5 courses & 2 sakes" generally indicates to me two sake pairings and not just one. Regardless, the Hakushika didn't light a candle to the best sake either of us have had. I don't think I'll be back for the food unless I want some raw fish to go with my booze, but I might return for the scene. read more

I frequent this clue often and never have I felt more disrespected then I did the other evening with my husband. My husband and I were with a few friends and were against the wall hanging out and getting drinks from the bar. My husband approached the bar tender again to ask for a titos and sprite and also how much the hookah was. She responded with such an attitude "you have to have a tab over $100 then you can order the hookah." She handed him the drink and she made titos and soda. He let her know it was incorrect she then remade it again, titos and soda. My Husband reiterated this is supposed to be titos and sprite she snatched the drink from in front of him and made it for a third time. Once more it was incorrect. She then snidely suggested that if he had enough money he could get a table and hookah could go there instead of taking up the bar. After she made the drink the fourth time incorrectly she then just told him to take the drinks and move on because clearly a paying customer was annoying to her. Let me be very clear, the day and age we live in, judging a book by its cover is in poor taste. Also, treating someone as if they are lesser of a person is how people get in trouble then play victim. Just remember if you see a dark haired, shorter bartender with a nasty attitude somebody probably ruined her life so her one mission is to try and tuin yours. But not going to happen here. My girlfriend and I were attending a happy hour party at Current in the upstairs lounge so we decided to grab dinner beforehand in the restaurant downstairs. We both love sushi. Our dinner decision was made even easier since I had a Living Social coupon to burn. We arrived a few minutes early for our 5:30 reservations and were about the only diners in the room which was an interesting space. The dining room had a trendy feel that in no way, shape, or form gave any indications that it housed a sushi restaurant. Even the sushi prep area seemed tucked away in a corner and did not allow for diners to eat at the sushi bar. Not a problem for me...just interesting. Our server, Bethany, was friendly, attentive, and always quick to refill our water glasses or remove empty plates. We ordered the Yellowtail carpaccio app, 3 Nigiri (Hotate/bay scallop, Aji/horse mackerel, and seared salmon belly) and 3 rolls (Roger Sanchez, Crunch Yoshihara, and Dubfire Pepper Tuna). Each nigiri selection was topped with a healthy-sized portion of raw fish which was fresh and had good flavor. Each of the rolls were very unique in construct and flavor profile. Although the Roger Sanchez and Dubfire were a bit pricey, both hit the mark as far as satisfying my taste buds. All told, Current was very much a pleasant surprise. Looks can be a deceiving. Current provided good-sized portions of sushi which tasted very good at a relatively reasonable price. While not on the level of Kushi or Sushi Taro in my book, it certainly isn't too far off that mark. I'd definitely go back to Current again. read more

The time I actually spent at Rosebar was fun enough, but if you go, be prepared for them to give you the run around. On the Sunday before memorial day, I attended an event at Rosebar. The event advertised an open bar from the 10-11 and free entry before 11pm with RSVP. When we arrived at 10:05pm the doors were not even opened yet. They started letting people in at 10:20, at which point there was a long line. The bouncers looked at our Eventbrite tickets and let us in. When I arrived at the bar 5 minutes later, my friends and I were told there was no open bar. When we showed the bartender the eventbrite, she said "I don't know who put out that, but it wasn't Rosebar." After a lot of back and forth, the bartender said she would text her manager. After asking her several more times, she finally said "okay, we're going to honor the open bar until 11." It was 10:52 at that point. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is that I've had a previous positive experience at Rosebar and because it was pretty fun once the night got going. read more

Welp. I'm retracting my previous 5-star review after attending Current two times since then. I've come to the conclusion that this place is AWESOME when celebs are hosting here...the regular nights? Not so much. The venue is still pretty, but the experience just feels pretty average and basic. Nothing to write home about, at ALL. The crowd is NOT cohesive. A mix of drug dealers, 45 yr/olds, AppleBottom Jeans & boots w/the fur chicks, professionals, model types, and just turned 21 yr/olds. Hmm. I've only attended Fridays so I don't know about the other nights but maybe they're better? I just know I won't go out my way to come here unless an A-lister is hosting. read more

If you wanna expose yourself but not really want to get in trouble, then give this place a shot. I love the bathrooms here. The bathrooms are stalls that are unisex, but the doors are clear! well not all of them, but some have clear doors, others have frosted glass. I was surprised at how clean the restroom was so when nature calls, don't fight it. Luckily I found a stall with frosted glass. If you get a clear stall, go ahead and let it all hang out! The decor at this place seems nice, but I didn't come here during club time. It was still about 9 or so, so it was a bunch of people standing around talking (or not talking) to each other, like a middle school dance. I wouldn't expect any more from DC. I can only comment for the top floor where I went for happy hour. What I can say is that the layout is pretty good. Although it's sort of like one big room, if you can think of it in sections, there is plenty of seating in one room, then there's the bar, which is where most people hungout, and finally there is an outdoor bar with a large canopy, which is pretty nice when the weather is right. Overall, the bar isn't bad. What I didn't like was the snottiness of the bartenders. read more

The BIGGER issue comes on October 5th, against my better judgement i go back because my friend wants to celebrate her birthday there. We get denied entry because of our shoes. Man! During those days of Current Sushi no other nightlife matched the experience that this place delivered consistently. Rosebar is still good as it still retains the residual glory that Currebt embodied years ago however the energy and vibe are incomparable. I still love to pop in once in a while but got tired of it for a second. Overall, it's a cool atmosphere with an outside deck that delivers great atmosphere and unmatched music. Bartenders are mostly attentive and nice. Even though bartenders walk around almost naked but it brings in The Vegas Vibe I was "accustomed" with for 3 years before returning to DC. read more

So this venue is not ADA cleared due to it being built before that was a requirement. The bathrooms are pretty small. I did appreciate security willingness to transport my friend up and down the stairs. The lounge is very very small. A double shot of Jack was $20 to me that's reasonably priced due to dc standards. They had special cocktails when I visited last weekend. I appreciated the fact that it was free before 11pm via Eventbrite (which I've stated in other reviews is very very clutch). I arrived at 10:57pm and their wasn't a line sooo gooo me. This isn't my first venue of choice. I came here for an Alumni Pre-Homecoming celebration. They had a female security guard and of course I got patted down. My bodysuit as well as my knee-high boots were confused. This must be a "shaky" establishment because I just wasn't prepared. At Ozio I never get patted down. The security guard then proceeded to reach for my small wallet which I said "you're suppose to ask before you enter a wallet." Like real talk, money and CC are inside make it aware that you will be searching inside of their too! I'm just picky, but I don't play with my money. Other than that, and a drunk promoter threatening to kick me out because he bumped into me and I looked at him like "say excuse me" however, my backup was with me. Because again per the usual, I wasn't in the wrong . Overall, I'm really indifferent to this spot. It's just never been IT for me. I know what I like and I try to stick to that. We came here for a friend's birthday. It took over 30 minutes to get checked in, which is ridiculous. I believe that the checking in of sections should be seamless. I did witness the manager arguing with a woman over a small amount for her section which held up the line. The other employees who were sitting around outside should have been trained enough to take care of the next guests while the manager discussed the issue with the woman. It was unprofessional to see. I also think the club should collect the names of the ppl in the section in advance to make things a little easier. The manager said the wait happened because everyone came at the same time, but it was because it was unorganized. There should be someone to step in and speed up the process if necessary. Especially since the deposit was paid in advance and we didn't pay for the bottle until you get to the table. It was extremely hot and there were NOT that many people there. The ventilation is extremely poor. Everyone was dripping sweat. When we got to the section there other people were sitting in it. There are no dividers or anything between sections. They said 6-8 people can fit....really 2-4 people can fit. The Dj was ok. We couldn't get refills on water, no matter how many times we asked. Some random girl was sitting in people's section...they probably need wristbands for VIP. It's really not worth the money. We were on the lower level and I believe the upper level may have better sections, but I would take my coin somewhere else. Somewhere with more ventilation and more organized check in systems. I took my cousin to Rosebar to celebrate her birthday and that was a HUGE mistake. First, the establishment over-charged my card and WOULD NOT refund the difference. They charged me $50 MORE than the price we were quoted. THEN they sandwiched our party of 5 IN BETWEEN two parties of 15. Only two people from my crew could sit down at one time. The hookah sucks. AND the most DISTURBING part is their beverage display. The club places OPEN containers of juice at each table BEFORE the party arrives. This is HAZARDOUS because people are standing/dancing around these UNATTENDED drinks all night. Someone could easily spike the juice and NO ONE would notice and there's no telling how long it's been sitting by the time the buying customer arrives. They should know better. As much money as we spent (over $700) the quality of service and space accommodations should have been better. But clearly they are in the business of taking money and caring little about the people they entertain. Establishments like this should be shutdown read more

I arrived shortly after 11 PM on Saturday night. The cover was $20 for women and $30 for guys which I didn't care for. Anyways, the music was okay. It was a mix of hip hop, reggae and top 40. Towards the time I was getting ready to leave, the DJ had already been replaying the same songs. There was a large crowd but it felt like my girls and I were the only ones dancing. BORING! I feel bad that the bartenders have to wear lingerie. Maybe they like that but it was so degrading in my opinion. The drinks are overpriced for what this establishment is. One of the bartenders rudely informed me that I needed to spend over $100 on bottle service just to get a hookah. I have never heard of this before and I live in New York. She told me she's from the Bronx and that's how they do it over there..okayy? Anyways, I made the most of my time there. I went for the night life!! Music was more hiphop which I like. Drinks seem similar priced to other clubs in dc. 2 Henny and ginger cost me about $50. Dress code seem to be casual. The guest seem to be more of under 35 crowd. read more

It was my first time in DC and I came here Saturday night for a friend's birthday. It was a blast. I thought the prices were reasonable between the cover and drinks. The vibe was fantastic, and I had a fantastic time. The bartenders were incredibly friendly. The bouncers were also fine. I appreciated the fact that every now and then I would notice that they were enjoying the vibe too. The space is relatively small for the amount of people who were in there, but I didn't mind that either. Music was mostly trap music, which I enjoyed, but I would not have minded if the DJ had a bit more variety throughout the night; trap music isn't always ideal to dance to. There were only 5 or 6 bathrooms, but there was bouncer who controlled the line, so that alleviated the process, so I didn't mind so much. Overall, the establishment physically does not have anything special. Typical prices. Typical space. Typical set up, really. However, what makes this place stand out is the atmosphere, and just for that, I would come back to DC from 4 hours away just to be able to experience it all over again. read more

Why are hookahs $100 deposit and an additional $60??? Way too overpriced, barely any room to move. I do not recommend this place at all not worth it. read more
