Honestly, I went to this location on 2 occasions looking for a Bobby Brown concealer. I went weeks apart from each other and they did not have it in stock. I had to drive about 20 to 30 mins away just to purchase. I'm giving them 3 stars because of that and because it seemed like they hardly had inventory of quite a few items. Also, during the last visit, it seemed like the floor associates were more invested in talking amongst themselves than supporting customers by floating through the store. They were all huddled in the front of the store, off to the side... conversing. That did not look good professionally in my opinion. read more

I went it to get a haircut from Zephyr. We had a short consultation to learn more about the haircut style that I was interested in and what I was not interested in. They need to give their management the ability to override certain situations such as a customer wants to return something and it's been 31 days which is not 30 days. The manager should be able to override that for a lousy $11 the fact that they can't trust their managers with the ability to do that makes me question the entire store, its ability to really do anything. I came in to get my eyebrows done. From the very start an African American lady started with the eye rolling. So I ignored her and I forgot but it was a sweet causassain lady that did my eyebrows. I told her I didn't like them because they were not cleaned. They don't looked like I got them done. She tried to fix them but they still didn't have clean edges. Was doing the last of my holiday shopping today and stopped by here today to see if they had some of the skin care products I've been eyeing online since it was in the area. She's extremely knowledgeable and clearly prioritizes maintaining the integrity and health of your hair, which is really important to me. I've only gotten haircuts so far, but each one has turned out exactly how I wanted, flattering and easy to maintain. She's also thoughtful about recommending treatments she genuinely thinks would benefit my hair, without pushing anything. I booked an ear piercing appointment for my daughters as a special graduation gift, and we were really looking forward to it. Lily, the stylist, called me the day before to say she couldn't keep our original appointment because she had another client, even though I had booked online and the time slot was available. She then insisted she could see us the same day, but when we showed up, she took another client anyway. This particular Ulta used to be one of my faves in the concord area, but coming from someone who used to also work at a different location, I tend to compare things a lot. In regards to inventory, they do have a good amount of items in stock. And I love that I can usually always find the things I need. I also love their displays, especially when it comes to new items and promotions. And it's not so claustrophobic like it is at Brentwood. However, their customer service is hit or miss. Some days they have some of the nicest beauty advisors working and other days, not so much. We made another girly trip to Ulta for my daughter. I didn't know what to expect. I had assumed it was another Sephora type store. I will say that I found Ulta disappointing. The shelves were empty and dirty. My daughter found a few things she liked. I found some random things on the sale stand. But overall meh, it wasn't a great shopping experience. At the end I was asked to give my phone number. I said no and my answer seemed like the worse answer in the world to give. I went to get a TRIM on 2-8-25. I explained to the "stylist" LILY that I only wanted 3 inches taken off. I told her I had been growing my hair since 2019 and I needed to be able to put it in a bun for work (I am in the army). She then proceeded to take off 6 inches! Not only did she take off more than I asked her to, she absolutely botched my hair. As you can see, the left of my hair is CLEARLY longer than the right side. I brought that up to her multiple times and she brushed it off. And if you look The back she cut about a 2 inch notch out of the right side and the sloped the hair down to the left rendering the left longer than the right. What really pisses me off is when I first sat in her chair I asked "how much do I need to take off for it to be healthy?" Her response "7-8 inches" I said "I'm not ready to cut THAT much yet"...so why the hell did she remove 6 inches after I told her 3??? Her botched job had me go back the next day where Zephry (she was amazing and she is the reason I gave the 4 stars) had to take that short piece and cut EVEN MORE. I came in there with 23 inches of hair today on 2-11-25 I'm sitting around 12/13 inches. I 100% believe that LILY botched my hair in order to get her way. She was adamant about cutting 7-8 inches off even though I only asked for 3. She essentially forced me to do something I didn't want to do and had said "no" to MULTIPLE times. What else does that sound like? When you say "no" and the other person forces you to do something? Fucking shameful for that "stylist" to disregard a clients wishes, brush off the fact that issues are noticed and being spoken on, and to essentially go rogue and intentionally give me a bad haircut. If you get your hair cut here STAY OUT OF LILYS CHAIR Now let's move on to the girl who fixed the shitty job I left the store in tears over. ZEPHYR seen the mess and agreed it was a terrible cut. She apologized and said that she had to match the length to the notch. She constantly asked for my opinion and when I pointed out what I was seeing she took her time to try to see what I was seeing and if she was able to see it she tried her best to fix it without taking off more than she had to. When we had issues with the front (forgot to mention that LILI blunt cut the front when I asked her to blend it to the length so it all looks uniform) I asked if using texturizing scissors would help. Turns out they did and we were able to achieve the look i needed. ZEPHYR really was amazing with how attentive she is, how understanding she was when I explained one of the reasons why I didn't want to cut my hair, and she was very easy to work with. She is the sole reason I would ever consider returning to this salon. Although I was upset over how much more needed to be it off, I didn't leave the salon in a hurry with tears running down my face like I did after being in LILYs chair. read more

I also liked that the things that are on promotion are easily identifiable and the price is clearly labeled. I actually bought a brush set that was a really good deal. This has got to be the worst Ulta I have ever been to. Lazy employees, was looking to get perfume & one of the worker was apparently helping someone else so I decided to just stay in line for someone at the register to get me the perfume I wanted. They lock up the perfumes, so I'm sure that make their job 10x harder than what it already is. The lady at the register went to go look in the back then she came back saying there was no more, I told her there's literally 2 boxes in the LOCKED CABINET where the perfume is. Then she goes idk if I can sell you that.... I'm like wait what LOL. What's the point of locking it, it's literally not a display candy, you can't even smell the samples bc it's all locked, lol. But whatever I told her, it's coo I'll go somewhere else then she goes actually I can sell you it with a big ass attitude. This particular employee was Caucasian a bit big bone with a bunch of tattoos, close to her neck chest area. Look honey, if you hate your job. Just leave. Kimberly who greatly assisted locating the Tony Moly products I wanted, was so very cool calling the Concord Store location requesting holding the Tony Moly hand lotion on hold for me. Upon arriving on 9/4/2019 at the Concord Store location, I not only purchased the peach hand lotion but, I also purchased the peach face wash, Tony Moly's Rose stick moisturizer, and Tony Moly's eye contour stick at this location as well . . . RUDE STAFF - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION I placed an in-store pickup order at 4pm on a Tuesday and got there at 6:30pm - even though I didnt receive the confirmation it was ready. I figured I would go in and ask, because maybe I didnt receive the email confirmation. I went to the register where there were THREE associates and NO CUSTOMERS - they did not even look up from their computer screens; I was not greeted or acknowledged. I told them I had an online order and wanted to see if it was ready - they said they couldnt find my order. I provided them with the email confirmation and with an attidue from the associate, was told, they do not NEED to fulfill my order within the 2hr guarantee time. I have read the fine print: "Ulta Beauty is committed to having your BOPIS or Curbside order ready in 2 hours or less. However, Ulta Beauty BOPIS and Curbside orders must be placed by 6PM local time in order to be eligible. Otherwise, orders will be ready the following business day." I asked if I could go grab the items and they could confirm and mark my order as picked up. They said no and to just cancel the order. I explained I used a gift card and would rather not wait for the remaining amount to go back to my debit card. They were extremely rude (still not looking up from their computer screens). They clearly weren't busy since the store was empty and didnt offer ANY help or resolution. I originally had a negative review from what happened at this location, followed by a positive experience today when I came back to this location, and the positive is what is making me give 4 stars. I made an online order earlier this week and although Pleasant Hill is closer to me (I am in Walnut Creek), the Concord location at the Willows had my item. Okay cool, no problem. I trecked over to Concord on 12/21, and when I walk in the store, there is a line about 35 deep or more. I get it, its the holiday season. I walk up the online order area (a designated area by the register, that has its own counter) and the girl at the register tells me that I need to get in the regular line because she does "not have enough people to man the online pick-up AND the registers". I felt myself get confused because I could literally see my order in the online pick-up. I had my ID out ready to go in my bag to show her. But I then assumed she might have to scan the item to check me out and it probably would be a time suck for her, so I told her I would come back. I walked out and came back and hour later and they were still busy so I decided to come back today. Today I go in and I am helped right away at online pick-up. I asked the girl who helped me today (a different person) if that was the protocol, long line = you have to get your online pick up by waiting in the regular line and she told me no, it was not and that online pick up is a priority so the girl who helped me might have been confused. The girl today was really sweet (gal that was working on 12/22 at this location). I hate sounding like a "Karen" but I worked customer service for years and to tell someone to get in a line of 35 people, to pick up an order that was ordered online sort of irked me. Especially after today I saw all the gal did was hand me my order after she saw my ID. I got my hair done by Lilia and I unfortunately was very bummed out, as this was my birthday hair. While talking she was very nice but the first red flag was that she looked at the picture for a second didn't really acknowledge it and i was like oh she must be very confident. Today 1/9/2020 I walked and did not receive a greeting which I thought nothing of until a caucasian woman walked in right after me and she was greeted with a "hello welcome in". I then spoke to "Char" who was the employee greeting the customers and I let her know that I didn't appreciate not being greeted more than likely due to me me being a woman of color and I'd appreciate being treated properly and greeted along with every other customer. We browse for maybe an additional 5 minutes and I just hear one of the employees speak into the mic saying "Oh, the guy and girl" as she walks right passed us. This is a review for the beauty salon,  specifically for Candace G. In summary,  if you are African American and looking for thermal work (flat iron,  press n curl),  I strongly recommend that you do not go see Candace. I inquired with the front desk at Ulta salon if there was anyone who could do heat straightening on African American natural hair. She recommended Candace and advised that I use the online booking tool. I booked a color,  cut and silk press using the ulta online booking tool over a month in advance of my appt. The tool stated that my services would take 3 hours, which was fine.   Before I arrived Candace texted me numerous times with a lot of confusion about my appt.  She informed me that she didn't know what a silk press was and asked me what I wanted done. That should have been my first clue. Undeterred, I told her I am black with natural hair and needed a thorough flat iron.   Fast forward to the appointment,  after washing,  coloring and cutting my hair it had been 2 hours and her next appt arrived.  She then proceeds to tell me that since her next appt is there,  she can run the flat iron through my hair real quick but that I am probably used to having to go through it with the flat iron when I get home.  I was silent at first and shocked.  I told her no I really wanted it styled correctly,  as I had taken off work specifically for this,  my post pandemic glam day. She told me it would take 30 mins to give me a proper flat iron. She then said that since I want it done right it would be better to not flat iron my hair at all and just refund me for the flat iron service.  I told her that is exactly what I didn't want and that I wanted the full service that I booked.  She then proceeded to blame me for why it took so long up to that point,  saying it was because I hadn't done my hair in a month.  Excuse me?! Who hair shames during a pandemic?  I then asked if I could maybe let her start on the other client and then come back to me.  She said very negatively "well it's going to take me an hour to do her foils. I seriously doubt you want to wait around that long". Then when i asked to speak to the mgr Candace told her she had offered to let me come back in an hour. That was my suggestion,  and before the mgr came Candace poo poo'd it and made it clear that was not what she wanted to do.  The manager was nice but I couldn't believe that she and Candace would honestly let me walk out of the salon without my hair finished,  merely offering to take the flat iron off the bill,  no extra discount for the inconvenience or anything. I was so excited to have my first glam day since the pandemic, only to leave looking worse than I came in.  I was literally embarrassed to come home to my husband because he was so excited to see my hair all done up, so I snuck in and put a scarf immediately on my head.  Candace is the one who changed my appt from silk press which I booked under the "textured" African American menu and which reserves plenty of time on the schedule to flat iron under the non textured hair menu,  thus reducing the amount of time she had to do my services.  2 hours is probably not enough time to do a color,  wash, blow dry, cut and flat iron on an African American with natural hair,  and I don't appreciate being blamed that it's because by hair is such a mess or so difficult to deal with,  which it's actually not.   I recommend that Candace get familiar with the salon's menu of options and remove herself as a stylist for all thermal work under the "textured hair" menu, because she clearly doesn't want to perform these services.  (She mentioned constantly via text and in person that flat irons don't last... um... mine do! ).  If she doesn't know what a silk press is,  then she should have her name removed from that service.  Also Candace made a number of rude comments to me about my hair such as "If I had your hair I would just cut it all off".  Excuse me?! What a racially insensitive comment, which was a surprise given that Candace appears to be part ethnic herself. My hair is beautiful.  How dare you.  I don't appreciate getting bumped because my textured hair takes a long time so that she can move on happily to her next easier non-ethnic client.  I am a paying customer,  I was there on time and made my appointment first,  therefore she had an ethical obligation to complete my services no matter how behind she was running.  It was her poor time management and changing of the services on my appointment that led to this mess. Don't blame the client.  She's not the first stylist to overbook, but she is the first stylist I've ever heard of to suggest that based on her failed time mgmt or not having reserved enough time for the appt,  I should go home with my hair half done. read more

This one employee at this location on Saturday, April 29th, 2023 around 6-630PM is one of the worst customer service people ever. First, she must have been coming back from break late because as I was merely opening the door to the location, she stormed up behind me, stepped on the back of my foot as I held to door open for her and said "ugh." She treated me as if I were in her way. I am SOOOOO sick of people in CUSTOMER SERVICES ROLES with rude manners, so I looked at her and said, "you're welcome." She is heavy-set, short, and has long, dark hair. I walked up to another representative and asked for help finding a product. She could tell I was confused when she said, "Do you actually need me to walk you over there and help you?" As I was answering her, she told me to "hold on" and addressed the person who called her through her earpiece. Turned out it was the woman who stepped on my foot because she looked up at me and said yes, she is standing in front of me right now..." So #UltaBeauty #UltaBeautyCorporate your employees in this store need to be fired or re-trained or whatever - I will never buy another thing from you ever again. The empolyees in the other stores arent stellar and I can meet by needs w/o you. Welp, I have to write a review, because I loved my experience today at Ulta in Concord. Stephanie was professional, friendly, and we had a nice discussion about what I was looking for today. She didn't rush but was still efficient, and let me roam around the store a bit, which is a nice thing to have while you're waiting for hair to lift. She had a confident yet gentle touch with my thickish, straight hair and checked in with me periodically. I felt comfortable in her and the other stylists' presence, which has not always been the case at other salons.
