Wooo I love this place! I haven't gotten my hair done by an actual hairdresser since 2014! Vanessa took great care of me and helped me address my (bad) hair situation. I showed her some inspo pics and she gave me my favorite hair I've ever had. My hair was fried and green from an incident I had with blue hair dye in December. Vanessa had me come in before my appointment to look at my hair and come up with a game plan. I ended up getting a small trim and blonde balayage. We kept my natural roots so it grows out nicely. Vanessa was so kind and easy to talk to. The salon is clean and I love the design they have inside. Super recommend, even if you have to wait for an appointment it's super worth it. read more

Talk about rude and conceited women . Wouldn't even consider touching my hair because I had platinum ends despite me being okay with them being cut off . Told me my hair was in "bad condition " despite me growing it out for a very long time and using treatments in between and that they weren't comfortable giving me color outside of brown and essentially saying that I need to cut off all my hair to "start fresh" . I used to have long platinum hair before this and I grew it out , but I guess that disqualifies me to be seen ? There are better salons out there that aren't discriminatory towards ethnic hair that is previously bleached . read more

Worst cut/color experience I've ever had. Erika mutilated my hair, I have hot roots & a dark band of color going around the middle. My ends are also lighter than everything else. Her way of trying to salvage it was to cut my hair WAY shorter than agreed upon to try & get rid of the ends (without asking/telling me) She wanted me to come back next week so she can "fix it" but I honestly don't trust her to fix anything, & can't exactly take another entire day off work so soon for her to make an attempt. Just wanted my hair to look nice for my anniversary dinner on Tuesday, & now I'll be wearing a hat until someone else can fix it. Also have to mention - I wanted a dark red. Which I know is made in permanent color. But for some reason she used a Demi purple color & then put another Demi red on top of it. So at least this mess will fade I guess. But would have been nice to know ahead of time that she didn't even plan on using permanent color. read more

This rating is strictly for scheduling an appointment. I've called at least 5 times it kept ringing and going to voicemail I then left a voicemail gave it a few days waiting for a call back I called back again and finally someone answered I'm assuming the receptionist and she stated, "they've been busy and haven't had a chance to check the voicemails." This is somewhat understandable considering we're getting past Covid however she took my name number and who I wanted to schedule an appointment with which is Vanessa and said she was with a client and would call me back as soon as she was finished, this was Wednesday of last week in the mid morning and I have yet to receive a phone call back to set up an appointment. Highly disappointed. I had virgin hair prior to coming to Do or Dye Hair Studio. I came to Vanessa the owner because I saw all her great reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately it wasn't the same great experience for me. I left with chemical burns on my head and blotchy blonde and silver hair. I told Vanessa that I was expecting the process to take a couple visits for my hair to lift to platinum blonde but I was not expecting for it to have complete different shades of blonde all throughout. During the process, they ran out of the first developer they were using and stopped to text and ask other hair stylist if it was ok to use a different developer. They continued with a different developer. Then they left the foils on my head for about 40 min and Vanessa only came to check on my hair once during that time to see how it was lifting. If she would have checked on my hair more often she would've noticed my hair was lifting unevenly. She sat outside the whole time while I had bleach in my hair. While Vanessa sat outside I told Erica my scalp was burning and she gave me the back of a comb to lift my hair off my head. They told me it was supposed to feel "tingling" but it being my first time getting my hair colored I could not tell if the burning sensation was normal. It was not unbearable but I did tell Erica. When Vanessa and Erica were taking out the foils, I heard Vanessa say the mixture was watery which after doing my research I found out that it was watery because they didn't mix their products to the right consistency. About the blotchy spots, after doing my research in order to find out why it came out blotchy, it is because they didn't distribute the product on my hair evenly. At first I was happy with my hair because I was unaware of how blotchy it was until I had my mother take pictures of how it looked from the back. From the front it looks nice but you can see in the pictures how it actually looks and the chemical burns. Vanessa took a picture of my scalp with my phone and showed me a small patch of redness before I left. You can see the picture with her nails. But that is all she showed me she did not show me with a mirror how she completely missed the roots on the back of my head. It has been a few days now and I have scabs all over my scalp. They styled my hair, and since my hair was curled and my hair was blended I could not tell how blotchy it was when I left the salon. I naively left the salon thinking that my hair looked nice. Vanessa gave me a free blonde shampoo bottle and I think it was to compensate for what happened. I was charged $320 and gave her a $30 tip for her time. Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else. I did make an appointment that day to come back in four weeks but given that my scalp was burnt, blotchy hair, and she ran out of her developer I will not be coming back. read more

If you are a person of color dont bother. If I could negative stars I would. Not very knowledgeable of ethnic hair in the slightest AT ALL. She accused my natural hair color of being fake. I have never been so stereotyped in my entire life. Holly the stylist had the audacity to touch my hair and said "If this brown is your real hair color". Im a black woman with chocolate brown hair NATURALLYb!! She swore if a drop of bleach saw my hair I'd be bald. Mind you I bleached my own hair the same day to level 5. If she can't do what I can do at home DONT PAY HER TO RUIN YOU! I'm not fried or BALD. My hair is perfectly healthy and growing just fine. Imagine that. Hope this place gets shut down Tbh. Ps. I stand by my review. I was not offered other coloring options. I was clearly left with the impression that not only was my hair color "fake" but that dying my hair would leave me hairless. It was suggested I try a Brazilian blowout. I'm appalled anyone would even offer that to me given my hair texture. The people here are rude and have very little knowledge and want to do black hair. I called to book a same day appointment and Crystal was very friendly and they were able to quickly accomodate a last minute appointment with Meli! I got there and everyone in the shop was very welcoming with big smiles. Meli seated me right away and asked specifics on the cut that I wanted. She was engaged and the whole time I was with her she made me super comfortable! This is the first time in 5 years that I've decided to find a stylist close to home. With Covid running rampant, I was unable to come in to Do or Dye. I rebelled and went to the first person that would see me and ended up getting exactly what I paid for... a terrible quarantine cut. After that I decided I would be a good girl and wait until it was safe enough and make an appointment with Do or Dye. In the past I have ALWAYS received the best service and results and knew that they'd be the only place to go to fix my hair. Today I was able to meet Erika and she heard my struggles and provided amazing service and a beautiful hair cut. I can proudly wear my hair down again. this is long overdue but i whenever i look at my hair i still get mad. I had Jenny. She was nice and everything but she did not do what I wanted. I had a consultation and asked how much everything would be and I was satisfied. I went in for my appointment and after I showed her again what I wanted she said that it was going to be more than she had said before. I told her that, no she said it would be that price so she had to stick to that. She agreed and went on with the appointment. She was brushing through my hair and talking and she kept trying to convince me to get an ombre which was not at all what I wanted. I wanted blonde hair with a little bit of my roots worked in so I would be able to let it grow out a little without the roots looking ridiculous. Then she tried to talk me into something else but I kept saying no that isn't what I wanted. She started doing my hair and everything was fine then I noticed that she was doing that thing with the back of the comb to only pick up every other piece of hair, then only dying that part. When I asked why she was doing that she said oh it's fine, this is just how I do it. fine. I let her continue. Then she mixed brown dye and started putting brown streaks in my hair. I stopped her when I realized what she was doing. Then she started putting it on my roots! I already had my natural brown roots and she said "oh this is semi permanent so it'll wash out." I couldn't really start her because she had already started and I didn't want it to be uneven. When that appointment was done I was mad. She said that I could come in again in a couple days and she would fix it. A couple days went by and I had texted her multiple times and she didn't answer. So I called the salon and they kept telling me that she wasn't there and they would let her know I called. After over a week, she finally texted me back and said that she didn't reply to me because she was sick and she finally had time to do my appointment. I went in for the second one and showed her what I wanted yet again and I straight up asked, "Are you going to do what I want this time? Because either you do or you're giving me my money back." She said "Oh yeah! Definitely! You're gonna love it." So back into the chair I went and she started dying it again. Then I notice that again she was doing that thing with the comb. I asked why she was doing that again and she said, "I can't do it full blonde like the picture because that would take too long and I have another appointment coming in soon." like, are you kidding me?! I had to go back because she didn't do what she said she would and she doesn't do what i want the second time either?!! So I left with hair that was dark and brassy with little brown pieces all over and long roots, when I wanted full light blonde with short, integrated roots. I'm still so mad and upset that I spent all that money on this and it was nowhere near what she said she would do. I really feel like I should have gotten my money back. This was the worst salon experience I have ever had. read more

If I was to ever open a hair studio, it would be just like Do or Dye. From the edgy decor to the funky hair stylists, this place feels like home. I found this gem while getting my nails done next door. I walked in and told Jenny what I wanted and she scheduled me for a week later. I've had bad experiences with salons in the past, but felt at ease with her right away. Needless to say, 2 hours with Jenny and I feel like a brand new woman. Honestly I don't think I've ever felt this beautiful. She nailed what I was going for and even though my hair wouldn't take some of the color she made it work. I've never been one to do anything style-wise with my hair (like I'm pretty sure I don't even blow dry it correctly), but after she curled mine I'm determined to learn how to. Jenny even gave me her cell phone number so I could text her if I had any future questions. I was expecting to pay hundreds of dollars for the cut and color, but was pleasantly surprised when it cost way under my budget. For the service and result I couldn't be happier.
