$19 Dollars for 1 punjena paprika. (stuffed pepper) ummm what???? It's insane I understand inflation is hitting us hard but am I buying the entire bag of peppers for you? Service was nice lady was pleasant that served and made the food. This place needs a rehab if you gonna charge $19 for a pepper least let it be in style.! Very disappointed. My daughter got a burek and I got the cevape I rate it a 8 out of 10.! Presentation gets a 5 out of 5 she perfectly placed each item beautifully. Only reason I'm giving it a 3 stars is overly priced. And very outdated place. And you can only pay in cash thank god I had cash.!!!!!

Meh. Not worth the hype. I've been to way better Balkan restaurants elsewhere. The food was very mediocre and didn't have the flavor I expected. The interior was also drab. I probably wouldn't have noticed this place if I didn't use Google maps. For lunch, I tried their burek (meat pie) after seeing this was one of the most popular items on their menu. I also had their cevapi. The burek was crispy on the outside, but had a tough texture on the inside and the meat tasted cold. The meat was also falling apart. This left me with the impression that the burek was pre-made and was just put in the oven to reheat it. The amount of meat was also very small and the burek had way too much phyllo dough. Phyllo also needs to be tasty, but the burek really missed the mark. The Cevapi was okay, though a bit too salty and not spiced enough. The ajvar and kajmak sides were tasty though. For dessert, I tried their baklava. The baklava was drowning in syrup and tasted a bit tough as opposed to being crispy. Again, this left the impression that it was pre-made. Overall, the food was a bit overpriced and I think I'll be sticking to Cevabdzinica Sarajevo on 34th Avenue instead. They have much better food and hospitality. The woman working at Ukus wasn't particularly the friendliest. Would I return here ? Nah. Oh well, I gave it a shot ! *Note* Cash only

Beware no masks. The cook is unprotected. Why has this been allowed. I ordered a beef dish headed out as quickly as possible home. Food is very basic. I will not be back. So diszappointed.

Great find. Cute casual spot for a late-night dessert and coffee. The woman behind the counter wasn't the more outward friendliest (maybe part of the Yugo culture?) but she was very helpful in explaining the dessert case (from less sweet to sweetest) and me asking her which was her favorites. We got her top two: the Petit cookie layer cake (with custard in between) and the Hazelnut/Rum wafer cake. Both mild, fresh, and tasty. We watched her make a turkish coffee from a little red pot on the stove and it was strong and delicious as well. Would like to come back for a meal & and a burek! Nice place for a burgeoning sleepy block (new Korean place next door, beautiful church & a Keyfood across the street) Never knew that this side of Astoria had such a large Balkan population as well.

Bosnian chicken soup was delicious. Also I have steak kebabs with salad included feta cheese, cucumber, tomato, very tasty and fresh. You dont want to miss the place highly recommend to share with your family and friends.

In my books, Ukus serves the best Bureks in the city! Far superior to any other version I've tried across the different Albanian, Bosnian, Turkish (slightly different genus) varieties I've sampled. In retrospect, I've loved their taste so much, I have been socially inconsiderate while consuming them - if I were to count the number of times my dining partner requested me to "slow down" during the meal. But, I have a simple dining philosophy: a dish must be enjoyed at the temperature it is supposed to. So, while my foodie friends take out their cameras to snap the dish from different angles, I am chafing at the delay in not chomping down the food while it's hot. It's a complete and utter waste when it comes to Bureks, as it is rare to find them served re-heated, let alone fresh and piping hot. But, the wedge of the spinach burek had multiple (thrillingly!) crisp and flaky layers of dough, and even a sharper feta cheese inside to accentuate the flavor. The potato burek was piping hot, baked to order, as was the superlative difficult-to-find, cabbage burek - and both of the pies were shaped like a garden hose (or my own visual association: mosquito coil!) We also had the Cevapi, 5 tubes of minced meat served inside the pita bun, and accompanied by chopped onions, and ajvar spread. Ukus' version was also really good, and charred on the outside and juicy on the inside. Even though the Cevapi were placed inside the bun, we thought it prudent not to eat it as a burger, and instead break off the bread to eat with them. It turned out to be a good idea as one of the few non-Bosnian expats dining within the restaurant was struggling with keeping the Cevapi from shooting off the bun! So, it turns out all the Bosnian restaurants have something or the other that they excel at: Ukus for Bureks, Old Bridge for burgers, Cevabdzinica Sarajevo for Cevapi and Sudzuk, and Djerdan for desserts. For my money, Ukus is still the most competent at handling both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I'm still waiting to try their famous stew that includes Suho Meso (beef jerky from nearby Black Bull meat market). Just one more reason to love Astoria! (4.5 stars)

Most importantly, we received exceptional service all-around. The hostess team was super accommodating with our timing (thank you for pushing us back in the line!!), and our server - Juliette - was an absolute angel. She took amazing care of us and made our first time at the restaurant so special I adore her. Please take care of that queen, management!!! If we wanted to get a table in the main dining room, the wait was estimated to be over 2 hours (we went around 8pm), so I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to go. The staff were very quick with service and very friendly. We were offered toasty bread with some lemon and an olive spread while we waited for our food (which also came out super quick!). We ordered the octopus and lamb chops. The octopus was incredibly tender, the meat was very soft - I personally would've preferred a little more bite to it, but it still tasted good. The lamb chops were flavorful. The medium here is on par with medium rare at most other places, and one of our pieces was borderline rare. At the end of the meal we were also offered complementary desert, which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed our meal overall, but just know that it's a little on the pricey. The octopus and lamb chops came out to $80~ pre-tax and tip. Would recommend if you're a fan of seafood!

There are plenty of seafood restaurants in Astoria that has this ordering style where you go up to…read morethe front and you see this fresh selection of seafood and you can order by the weigh/item. The ones we had been to in the past usually allows you to also pick different type of cooking style or seasoning but this place only cooks it their way. It's good for people who are indecisive but disappointing for people who want variety of flavor. They usually have a section of appetizers and drinks you can order on a separate menu as well. The staffs were very low energies when we visited on a weekend night. The overall ambiance and interaction made us feel a little uncomfortable. We ordered: - eggplant dip - fries - Greek salad (large) - cooked fish - calamari - octopus Honestly I was so disappointed with the food. It didn't taste as fresh and was overall too salty. The eggplant dip had a weird taste. Friend fries were not as crispy and unevenly distributed portions of salt. The calamari was nothing special. The fish was okay, and the octopus was so salty we actually sent back the dish. It was very difficult to enjoy it. The staff was so accommodating and actually took the dish off our bill. (Thank you!! - great customer service!). My favorite item was probably the Greek salad, but then again it's hard to mess up a salad. I would say this is my least favorite counter order style seafood restaurant in Astoria. My friend said great things about it prior to my visit and I really wish I would have liked it.
