Uji Time has been one of my favorite local spots. The real standout for me is the food. Their popcorn chicken is hands down the best I've had -- crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and seriously addictive. The deep-fried squid (basically calamari) is just as good -- light, crispy, and not overly greasy. It's the kind of snack you order "to share" and then end up guarding. And you can't leave without trying their soft serve. The fish-shaped cone is fun on its own, but the unique soft serve flavors make it special. It's creative, delicious, and something you can't find anywhere nearby. It's heartbreaking that they're closing sometime March. Places that put this much care into both flavor and creativity deserve better. If you've ever thought about trying it, now is the time. Local gems like this don't come around often -- and they shouldn't disappear quietly. read more

Stopping in this weekend, Uji Time Dessert was not quite what I expected. I went in thinking they sold ice cream but I'd term their soft serve solidly frozen yogurt, with the ice cream they sell being Moochi. The soft serve had an intensely creamy flavor with a high milk content and while the honey enjoyed his Thai milk tea boba, the style of my mango cup was not for me (although the fish cone option is very cute). We ordered from a tablet at the front and the service was prompt and friendly. I'd love to see them add in some outside seating as beyond the Starbucks, there's no seating in this shopping center. All in all, we may come back to order food but sadly it just wasn't a good match for the type of ice cream I enjoy. read more

What a cute spot to get a non-alcoholic pina colada, air conditioning, friendly service...and a dog-friendly atmosphere! I ordered the pina colada, and I was so happy that I could adjust the sweetness level. My fiance ordered an ube milk tea, with zero percent sweetness (he's T1 diabetic so he prefers his drinks less sweet.) Everything tasted so perfectly refreshing. This place recently opened in Sept, in a large parking lot that had a good amount of space to easily find parking. The menu was overwhelming, they had so many selections to choose from. They had a ton of soft serve selection! The wife and I were able to sample a few, I got the matcha ube swirl, and she got the peach vanilla swirl. The flavor of the matcha was a bit bitter to my taste, so pairing it with the sweeter ube made it a good combination. Finally we get a proper Uji Time here! Yay! Anyways, my fiance and I came here for a late-ish snack/dessert/dinner. Their menu is fairly extensive in which that was pretty neat. They even have proper rice bowls and all. Anyways, we ordered one of their taiyaki ice cream with ube and matcha swirled ice cream with a strawberry and chocolate wafer roll. We also got their Oreo egg puff skewer and their gyudon, popcorn chicken, and their curly fries. Since my fiance got the ice cream, I tried a bit of it and was pleasantly surprised at how strong the ube taste was. Their chicken karaage was also amazing. The gyudon is your average gyudon but it does the job when you're hungry. It wasn't bad and if anything, it was pretty good. Just not too special though? Their curly fries are pretty good too. The only minor disappointing part was the egg puff skewer. I would've thought it was stuffed with Oreo or something inside, but it was just an egg puff waffle skewer with a mini oreo on top and a drizzle. Personally a bit too doughy for my liking. Perhaps I'll try the normal egg waffle. The main reason for the -1 star is that the electronic ordering system they have is a bit strange. It doesn't really have a selection for "sit in" dining. It had two selections of "takeout" and "pay for existing order." When we asked a staff member how to order for sit in, he was confused. I don't think it's because he didn't understand us, but rather didn't know the operating system. He ended up grabbing someone else who seemed to give a fairly questionable answer too. Regardless we just finagled our way through. The other part of the -1 star though was the order for the gyudon was wrong. Somehow it came out as a tofu rice bowl and I had to get them to change it. So something with communication may be potentially lacking. Would I come back? Definitely. Given it's a new place, there are probably some growing pains as they say. Seating wise, there's enough seating I think for what it is. But it's not like there's a whole open seating space. Just several tables. read more

This is a cute spot within an outdoor plaza with plenty of parking but it does get busy since there are many other popular spots (Trader Joe's, Chipotle, Starbucks). There's a decent amount of seating as well. You can order on their kiosk or at the counter. They have a happy hour special from 4-6p for a snack/waffle and drink combo which is a steal! However, there are limitations of snack options for this deal. They have drinks, snacks, rice bowls, takiyaki, and ice cream -- everything I love! I got their popcorn chicken (super flavorful and juicy), calamari (HUGE and very crispy), chocolate egg waffle (great texture but was overcooked which is typical with chocolate waffles). We've been here twice in a week. My older daughter loves anything boba and matcha. Their drinks are okay. Their chicken karaage/popcorn chicken is tasty and my youngest is picky so she eats that. Today we tried the matcha and the matcha ube soft serve. In our 'ohana, only my oldest is not lactose intolerant. The combination of the soft serve and my Trenta Starbucks (I didn't even drink half) has my stomach doing cartwheels and flips this evening. I won't knock off any stars since it was my fault for doing this "combination"; but, lesson learned. We definitely are adding Uji Time to our list of "places we frequent". There are quite a bit of seating in this establishment and the workers are friendly. A few days ago my oldest daughter started a conversation with I believe the owner's son. I'm so happy a location opened up closer to us!! Spontaneously popped in on a Friday afternoon and enjoyed our boba and dessert! It's so close to the high school and we unfortunately went when school got out so it was over run by students taking over nearly half the store with backpacks on the ground and loud noises and I could tell that some of the staff was annoyed especially when calling our their orders and no one was paying attention. I wouldn't recommend going during the week when school gets out for this reason.. but it doesn't change the taste or quality of the dessert and drinks!! read more

Bought a pint of Vietnamese coffee for $13. The ice cream was tasty but not worth the steep price. The service was terrible- particularly the male (Saturday afternoon) was rude. Unable to answer questions - like where was the ice cream made ("I don't know), what are the ingredients - would not let us read the ingredient list on the pint container until after we paid. The ice cream pints are in a locked freezer. But once we pay he would unlock the freezer so we could look. He did say there was a posted printout of their ice cream ingredients on the side of the freezer but it did not list percentages of saturated fat, etc He himself knew nothing about the product. Not impressed and will not return. Saturated fat content is TOO HIGH and is sweetened with FRUCTOSE. Better off buying a pint of Jeni's ice cream. read more

I'm so excited Uji Time opened a location in Danville! We used to go all the way to San Francisco just for their matcha ice cream in the taiyaki fish cone. Now it's much closer, and it's just as good! All their flavors are amazing--especially the matcha and black sesame--and the ice cream is always fresh, creamy, and not overly sweet. The fish cone is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and pairs perfectly with the ice cream. The Danville store is much bigger than the SF one, with lots of seating and a modern, clean vibe.
