Fosters Freeze has such a nostalgic feel for me, I was happy to discover one in this neck of the woods. The business is clean and well maintained, if a bit older. They have parking and are located in a bustling stretch of Danville near many shops and restaurants. Our group sampled some of their ice cream menu items and everyone was very pleased. Perfect place for a snack , meal, dessert , your guilty cheat meal. You don't see that many Fosters Freeze and when you do I personally get the hankering for a shake , ice cream or a banana split . In downtown Danville of all places, this is great place for after game treats. They have a huge versatile menu and everyone in visit here it looks different and there are different new items in the window display also. Two ways to order your food 1. Outside window pickup like a carnival, festival or amusement park. They keep this location clean and presentable which is very appreciated. So many flavors, wide arrange from Red Bull to French fries. You can probably have a different thing here everyday for 2 months. It's in the same parking lot as the Nanking bistro Chinese restaurant and across from 11th tiger Thai thai. I think of FF as a franchise carnival eats fast food. You're not gonna get any thing real healthy here. The expansive menu is way more better than Dairy Queen DQ by far. I ordered the banana split and it was everything I wanted , super delicious. Ok, I came back to try the burger. I ordered the Double Decker combo (comes with fries and a med soda) (3 Stars. $16.49). Let's start with the pricing, the lady taking the order asked if I wanted small fries. I said yes thinking the combo comes with it and maybe she will give a better price. No, the combo is 16.49 which is the price of the burger 9.50 plus the drink 2.50, plus a large fry 4.50. that add up to 16.50, 1 cent discount for a combo. No discount for small fries. she down sold me on the fries and charged the full combo price. Seems she gaming the customers, the price difference between large $4.50 and small 2.99 fries. Doh! Anyway what about the food. The meat quality is nothing special, taste ok, not that great. Good amount of cheese so it kinda works together. The bun is nothing special. The veggies. (Lettuce, red onion, pickles, tomatoes) were all fresh, no issues. The house sauce was ok, nothing special just 1k Island. Fries (2 Stars) standard pre-frozen crinkle cut. Also I found out the Double Decker Burger for $9.50, includes Swiss cheese, American cheese and bacon, where as the Double Old Fashion doesn't come with cheese or bacon for $8.50. The rest is all the same on both burgers, so for $1 more the Double Decker is a better deal. My first visit as an adult! I'm taking Mom's word for it that I've been here once as a kid, although I don't remember. Our visit was rather accidental, as the tea shop we wanted to visit turned out to be temp closed. So we walked a couple blocks for a treat here instead. For years, I've watched tweens and teens ride their bikes to and from Fosters, and now I understand why. During COVID, order at the right window and pick up at the window to the left. The staff member assisting us was wearing a mask. We got a small oreo twister to share between two and it was the perfect sized treat with a good cookie to soft serve ratio. This is a cute date spot or somewhere to take the kids/meet up with friends for an after school ice cream. If you're expecting anything else, you'll be disappointed. "Ooooh, I feel good. I feel hungry!" So said our family friend when we went out to eat. Granted, in California's experiment in tyranny and mental illness in 2020, there were no places to sit down inside to eat in the Bay Area. But if you wanted to do takeout, your choices were slightly expanded, and they included Fosters Freeze. Fosters in Danville is like Nate n Al's in Beverly Hills: a comfortable old place serving old fashioned American food in an upscale neighborhood. It's out of place, think "American Graffiti" in the middle of "Home Alone." Which is fine by me, I never got into upscale dining. I do get into good food with good company, and you're more likely to relax with each other at a place like Fosters Freeze. Fosters majors on its ice cream and milkshakes, but it also has lots of burgers. And we were like the three bears (plus one): Papa Bear (moi) had the double decker, Mama Bear (our friend) had the normal cheeseburger, and Baby Bear (the girl) had the junior cheeseburger. The Hunny had to be different and had hers on Texas Toast. We all found our burgers to be good. I've had better, usually in non-chain restaurants. Patties are cooked medium well, and the cheese and bacon added together give it a hearty taste. Double Decker is a half-pounder. It's a little better than In-n-Out, which puts it at a cut above, not as good as Nation's. I didn't have the fries, but was told that the fries are also good. I think they usually have outdoor seating, but everything was different in 2020, so do not go inside, do not sit outside, do not pass GO, do not collect $200. I was able to breathe (read: no mask), and no one gave me grief about that. We drove to Hap Magee Park and ate there. I haven't been by Fosters during a school lunch time. San Ramon Valley High is nearby, and I would not be surprised if a lot of them walk here for lunch. If that turns you off, then be warned. If you prefer delectable edibles complete with Napa Valley vintage, you can find it in downtown Danville. If you just want a down-and-dirty burger, surprise, Fosters is here for you. read more

I'm so happy I got my Foster's Freeze fix! I grew up in San Ramon and we used to go to the Foster's Freeze that was in Dublin back in the 90s (where Casa Orozco is now). I live in San Diego now and the closest Foster's Freeze to me is about a 25 minute drive. I had forgotten all about this one here in Danville until my sister reminded me about it. I forgot I had been to this location once before about 11 years ago! My brother-in-law and I stopped here this evening to get some dessert. I thought I'd try out the S'mores Twister. It was alright but I regret not getting a Butterfinger Twister or the Worms N' Dirt one instead. I love how Foster's Freeze has all the old signs and posters. Switching from that giant chunk of white lettuce and go shredded. Yellow or white onion sliced super thin. Add get some toast to that bun and construct it in a matter that allows it to stay intact. This Fosters Freeze is one of my favorite places to come and get a burger or some ice cream and take a load off. Admittedly they're a little old fashioned and can take a little bit longer to get your food ready, but it's well worth the wait. This Fosters Freeze has been here forever in down town Danville and it really is a staple of the community. The staff are really friendly and they always do their best to get you what you want. It's seems to be a favorite spot for a lot of the local classic car guys, so there's usually some beautiful car parked out front. This is also a really popular place with all the local kids and teens to come and get their sweet treats, so it really is a good mix of all the local crowd. The soft serve comes here are reliably good. The service is quick. The twisters are only so-so. They don't seem to have the ratios correct. I tried the peppermint one and it was too strong and the candy was stale. Maybe it wasn't as popular but I expected it to be edible. Depending on the time and day the lot can be empty of full of teenagers. When there are a lot of teenagers they tend to ignore other vehicles so watch out for them. read more

I had been wanting to try Fosters Freeze for quite some time. I always drove past it in Downtown Danville and finally went after all these years with some friends. It is located pretty much in Downtown Danville and they have their own parking lot. You can either order from a window outside or order within. There is also indoor and outdoor seating. I originally asked my hubby to stop for some ice cream. I noticed that they offer mint chocolate chip milkshakes so I felt I knew what I wanted. The gentleman in front of us made his order and I had a few quick moments to look at the other items/pictures that they have in the windows. I noticed a BLT, and loving bacon, I was interested. Also, right above it there were some cheese bacon ranch fries advertised. So I ordered all three of the aforementioned things. We got them and left to get our child from her school. I ate and drank on the way over. The BLT is very tasty. I don't commonly use the word tasty, either. They did technically forget to give me the ranch to go with the fries, but the cheese was melty the way you would see it in a commercial and it didn't taste like it was American cheese so that's always a major plus in my book. SHAKE IT, SHAKE IT, SHAKE IT! since i was just a little kid foster's freeze has always been all about the best shakes. we never seemed to have them to close to where i lived so we always made the worthwhile drive for one of these heavenly milkshakes. my favorite flavors have always been pineapple, banana, and chocolate peanut butter. they always seemed to have the most flavorful shakes with real chunks of fruit. now i really love the fresh chunks in a shake. this danville location can get busy with san ramon high school just a block away but overall it's not too busy these days. the good old days of the ice cream shops i grew up with are dying. they have the big boss burger at fosters and it seems to be so popular with many who actually eat the food here but it's not too good with me. it seems they have never had a western bacon cheeseburger from carl's jr. they have had this burger since the beginning and they really do it right. the boss burger at foster's is a failed attempt at a big burger. this is still a cute family run shop but i suggest you come in and get the shake, soooo good! read more

I must start this review by saying that Foster's is known for its milkshakes, but we got a hamburger meal. Maybe the milkshake are more impressive. The restaurant was clean and the customer service was decent, so that's why they get 3 stars. However, the food wasn't particularly memorable, there are no free refills on soda (and they're fountain sodas, not cans), the fries were a bit over cooked, and there are no bathrooms even for customers. To top it all off, one kid meal and one adult meal was $20. Bit pricey for fast food. So while I wouldn't tell anyone to never go here, I also wouldn't recommend it, nor go back myself. read more

Foster's Freeze in downtown Danville? I can't remember seeing any of these in the Bay Area--I always thought they stuck to the smaller towns in outlying areas (Cloverdale, e.g.). We had a mid-afternoon lunch, that, for fast food, was pretty good. I had a Grilled Chicken sandwich, which was quality white chicken breast on a bun with tomato: quite tasty. My wife's fish fillet was also of good quality. My chocolate milkshake was delicious; easily at least on par with DQ, and competitively priced. I would come back just for the shakes. They have Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Triple Berry (strawberry, raspberry, black berry), Caramel, Peach, Bananna, Pineapple and possibly Oreo flavors.
