Went to Black Bear diner to celebrate hubby's birthday. Breakfast is the best. We were greeted when we walked in. We were seated right away and the hostess took our drink order. Our drinks were brought quickly. Our waitress arrived shortly after our drinks and took our order. She followed up with us during our meal and was friendly. Our food came out quickly. I over heard the poor ladies in the booth next to us both order them, and it took everything in me to not advise them against it. I took advantage of the Black Bear Diner Birthday Club Reward and ordered the Bear's Choice Breakfast. I ordered two scrambled eggs, upgraded to two round sausage patties and French Toast. My wife ordered the Little Less Dinner Bear Paw Chicken Fried Steak. My eggs were nicely scrambled, thyme seasoning in the sausage was a bit overpowering and the toast was very good, crisp on the outside but moist on the inside. My wife's chicken fried steak tasted more like hamburger, mashed potatoes with gravy was tasty and the string beans with bacon tasted more like string beans out of a can. I enjoyed my meal and I thought my wife's meal was okay. Staff is nice and they are quick and prompt. I like the food and will be back to try the other items in the menu. Black Bear Diner is my favorite restaurant chain in America. With more than 150 locations spanning 13 states and more coming, it is one of the fastest growing chains in the restaurant business. The Danville location is situated near the I-680 Sycamore Valley Road exit, directly across from the Rose Garden Shopping Center. I met up with George F. here for brunch on 01/19/2025 at 10am. Upon entering, we were greeted and quickly seated at a booth on the left side. The interior was very clean. Decors were similar to other Black Bear locations. Our server got us started with a couple cups of coffee while we decide on what to get. After a few minutes of deliberating, George got the Rueben while I opted for the Joe's Hobo Omelette. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes. My omelette was delicious. It was loaded with three types of meat, cheese, and spinach and the eggs weren't overcooked. I requested my hash browns to be extra crispy and they were cooked to my specification. Everything was to my liking. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Coffee was refilled on multiple occasions, and our requests were promptly fulfilled. Prices here were less expensive than other breakfast spots in the area. I totally get that it's weird to yelp a diner like black bear because it's everywhere, but I do have to say I have been to quite a few black bear diners. And this is probably my favorite one. Usually frequent the one in Pleasanton. But for whatever reason, we didn't feel like going to that one last night. So for a late dinner, we decided we wanted breakfast. And since we live in San Ramon, we ended up in danville. This is gonna sound so picky, but to be honest, I usually don't order hash Browns because I don't like the way that they come out at typical diners. Well, last night vain made my breakfast to perfection. I also had gravy and biscuits and I was actually surprised because the gravy was hot and the biscuits were soft and warm and it had the perfect amount of seasoning and salt. That usually doesn't happen for me in Pleasanton. The only thing I would say was a bummer. Was that the coffee that I ordered was lukewarm at best. The customer service was awesome. They seemed like a very happy team. It was nice and quiet even though there were other families there dining as well. I think, from now on, I'm going to head to their diner in Danville, as opposed to Pleasanton. Better than I expected! read more

This black bear diner is so convenient and fun to go to. It's never too busy, and it has a great atmosphere and ambiance. The food like the other black bears is always delicious. The Reuben sandwich, hot open faced turkey plate, fried chicken plate, and nearly everything else is all delicious. The service is overall good too and there aren't many complaints with them. The only complaints I can think of are the pricing but that is expected due to inflation. And then the service at times could be better as there are times where sometimes staff may forget items, or be gone longer than expected. Overall, I would still attend this black bear diner any day. Well, I was less than impressed tonight. Before I give a very honest review I do feel like Black Bear is a place for breakfast and that's really it. With that being said my little guy wanted "panpakes" as he says so I obliged. I will be doing another review of just breakfast because I do think they have great options. Tonight my kiddo loved the mini volcano per usual. It has pancakes, sausage, eggs, and a piece of bacon. Everything was gone! My mom had the pot roast. She said it was a nice smaller portion but overall flavor was sub par. I had the california burger lettuce wrapped with cold slaw. The burger was ok but needed some sauce. The cold slaw was not good. It was dry and had no flavor. I was honestly shocked by this and do not recommend ordering it. Overall, we still love black bear. We love the diner feel and all of the cute merchandise. I've seen the fish and chips on the menu before, but never had it , till now! It arrives with 3 pretty decent sized fried fish pieces. It's some whit fish, not sure which one, pretty sure it's not halibut though. It's probably pollock I think. It came with a big pile of chips (fries in American!) It included coleslaw and a salad. The salad was decent and had good tomatoes. The house 1000 island dressing was good too. The first few bites were delicious poached egg, English muffin, & bacon. Then the next bite wasnt good, a slightly off flavor. It was the thinly sliced tomato. It's super convenient location could rake in the travelers but they don't know it's there... right off the Sycamore exit and around the corner. Great gas station next door with a full convenience store. The Black Bear Diner has solid breakfasts, a very good meatloaf dinner, and a tremendous deal with the ham and cheese omelette breakfast choice, with hash browns fries or country potatoes. The milkshakes, are actually phenomenal, and they're good with any meal. The waitresses are solid and friendly. It's a place to have a group get together of any kind. Went there on 1/17/2026 at around 5PM. It was Prime Rib night. Could not pass that up! We ordered two medium rare (wife and I). It was PERFECT! Cooked to perfection, tender-melt-in-your-mouth perfection! Just a little (very little) fat as one might expect. Could not be more pleased. I haven't been there for a few years and decided to go with a friend last night. Unfortunately that wasn't the best decision. The restaurant really needs some help on cleanliness. It looked like it hadn't been vacuumed since last week. Carpet was filthy! We walked in and got seated right away. There were about 6 to 8 other tables with people sitting either waiting for their food or waiting to order. I guess ordering a baked potato as a side at dinner time isn't the best choice. It had definitely been sitting around for a very long time. The potato was very dry and discolored from sitting around for so long. I would have thought that 7:00 PM would be a decent time to order, but I guess they must bake potatoes and leave them to dry out rather than keep them in a place where they would at least taste like they were recently baked. If there's a such thing as a stale potato - this fit that criteria. I will definitely think twice before coming back to the Black Bear Diner in Danville for dinner. read more

We ate at the Black Bear Diner in Danville last night and it was a wonderful experience. My wife ordered the tri tip steak dinner. She said it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Her dinner was served with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and a biscuit. She commented to me how much she enjoyed her meal. I ordered the All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry dinner. The meal was very tasty. The fish was cooked in a light batter and had a crispy coating. The meal was served with French fries. Everything tasted great. Our server, Maria, was fantastic! She was always friendly and very attentive. We had a great conversation with her. She is such a nice lady. I also want to comment that our meal was served in a timely manner. It didn't take long to get our meal after ordering it and it was very hot, which tells us it was delivered immediately after it was cooked. This is only the second time this year I've been able to dine out, so a friend suggested going to Black Bear for a belated celebration. We got there around noon and quickly greeted. We were lead to a booth in the east interior. The west side was busy but not full. We were given menus which includes a wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. With some indecision, I asked our server Jessica what some customer favorites are and she mentioned for big appetites, The Grizz. Its loaded with just about every breakfast item you would want, too much for me so I asked about lunch. Jessica suggested the New Classic Cheese Burger Basket which I overlooked on the menu. That was perfect so I ordered a single patty and unseasoned fries. Meals arrived shortly after. Presentation in a basket is classic and simple. The burger was nicely wrapped in paper and the fries hot and crisp. There was lettuce, slice tomato, slice red onion, dill pickles with thousand island dressing. The brioche bun was soft and warm. The burger patty is just under 4 oz so if you are hungry, order the double. I cant say anything wrong with Black Bear. For a diner they offer something everybody would like, even desserts. My favorite is carrot cake. And the service is great and helpful just like Jessica. I hope to return and have their Prime Rib special one of these Fridays. read more

Very disappointed that I couldn't complete/add to my order, even though it was on DoorDash. Called to see if they could accommodate my request over the phone & was told "No since they can't charge". Since we're on the phone, I don't understand why they couldn't just charge while I'm on the phone w them. Seemed pretty lazy to me & now I'm upset. I can't leave my workplace & that is obviously why I chose DoorDash. If you can't be accommodating over the phone, maybe you should allow on DoorDash to "add" things to your order. This is a great breakfast restaurant for the picky kid who likes what the food looks like and it'll the look affects the taste. So the cub pancake face looks very appealing and all I want is for the kids to eat a substantial meal to start the day. Getting back to my chicken fried steak, it is what you need to order when you are here. It is cooked just right and not too greasy. It is also tender enough to slice with the side edge of your fork. Sometimes chicken fried steak gets pounded down too thin, but this has a nice consistency and is pretty tasty. All Black Bears aren't made alike. This location has a gem of a cook named Jose. He's been the cook during lunch the last 2 times I've been there and the guy knows how to put what I call " slap", on his meat. Yesterday I had a 10oz steak seasoned so well that it required no steak sauce (slap)!! A first for this carnivore who frequents steak houses regularly. Today I had the chicken breast club w/avocado, (slap)!!! Jose did it again..
