uchi was the sleeper hit on my solar eclipse trip to texas a few years ago. uchi's cooked dishes are solid. raw fish dishes while pretty good are kinda pricey and easy to find elsewhere. my fav is the kinoko nabe, i have their official recipe saved bc i think about it so much. very solid here, they ran out of the gyutoro xo add on so we got the hot stone seared beef on the side to pair with it. bone marrow is also very well done - slight acidity of the salad and sweetness/umami of the xo pair very well. hamachi crudo and peach dessert were just ok would probably just sub with more nabe going forward. solid but not as mindblowing as my meal at the houston location. service was nice, we were seated promptly as a weekday walk in. ambiance was pretty similar to the other uchi, area around the bar is well-lit, everywhere else is a little dark read more

Came late night and it wasn't too busy. There was a wait, so our group waited outside. We were offered to order drinks and so we ordered and was able to drink outside while waiting which was nice. Once inside, it was really nice, and somewhat dark. My eyes had to adjust. Ordering our food was quick and the wait wasn't too long. Everything came out almost the same time. Holy flipping crap. This place is genuinely incredible. The waitress was so great and let me order a couple of things as a half order so I could try more food without going way over my budget. Writing this review is challenging because this is one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite, restaurants in Denver. Over the past year, I've enjoyed some of the best sushi meals of my life here, and we've dined at this restaurant at least seven times. However, during our recent visit, the service really missed the mark, and I believe a few management updates could easily address these issues. Firstly, the lack of eye contact was noticeable. From the front desk staff to our waiter and even those delivering food, no one made an effort to connect with us visually. Given that the menu is somewhat complex, having a waiter guide us through our choices would have been helpful, but this was not offered during our visit. When food was delivered, the server spoke quickly, without making eye contact, and left abruptly, leaving us unsure about the dishes on our table. Additionally, the specialty drink menu was missing items from the bar, requiring us to reorder mid-service. We repeatedly asked for drink refills, including wine and cocktails, but were left with empty glasses on the table for extended periods. Overall, these service issues detracted from the dining experience, which is crucial in a restaurant known for its exceptional food. This seems like a management issue, especially since it was a Wednesday night and the restaurant wasn't very busy. I sincerely hope these details are addressed because this restaurant holds a special place in our hearts, and it pains me to write this. Disclaimer: I don't like sushi, but I love this restaurant. However, I was roped into a dinner here with family, and I really enjoyed it. Parking is not great (city neighborhood not surprising) but they do have a valet. The interior is nice - intriguing artwork and clever ways to divide a pretty large space. Comfortable booths where the table is actually within reach for people under 6-feet. Our servers were fantastic. Very, very knowledgeable, pleasant and quick to respond. The only con to the space is that I thought it was a little loud (I see other reviewers disagree). As a vegetarian I had the kinoko nabe - seasonal mushrooms, koshihikari rice, egg yolk. It was brought to the table very hot with the egg yolk unbroken in the center, then they added a thin sauce and broke the egg yolk before stirring it all together. I honestly did not have huge hopes for this but it was DELICIOUS. Great plating. Also, it was a good size - perfect for a dinner entree. And there is a pretty good selection of other non-meat/fish dishes. I also enjoyed the edamame and shishito peppers and avocado nigiri that were our table appetizers. The shishitos came with a kimchi sauce that really complimented them. My son also used some of that sauce on his tempura shrimp to good effect. My companions raved about their sushi and tried many different rolls, etc. Which you almost have to do because the portions are not large. The verdict on the salmon was "melts in your mouth" and they ordered seconds on some tuna thing (sorry, I can't really remember sushi names). The drink list was not extensive but nicely varied for a sushi place. My bourbon pour was generous, which is appreciated. Only one hot sake selection, but it was good enough that my companions killed one bottle each! The dessert list was, in all of our opinions, a little strange, so we stopped at Voodoo Donuts on the way home. Look forward to returning. read more

Best sushi I've had in Denver hands down. The restaurant itself has a very rustic, modern ambiance with low lighting and wooden accents. The servers were very kind, helpful, and accommodating. My friend mentioned that I had just recently gotten engaged and our sushi chef was so generous. So overjoyed for the return of the garden series dinners this summer! Yesterday's collab dinner with Safta was an interestingly delicious amalgamation of modern Japanese and Mediterranean flavors. It started out with a prolonged appetizer journey of hummus, nigiri bites, israeli salad, and tuna crudo... then culminated in large format shareable salmon and lamb saddle with tasty accouterments. Highlights for me were the compressed tomato nigiri, creatively disguised as fish; altius farms mushrooms grown in the garden we were dining in with hummus & pita, a rarer rose perch nigiri topped with allepo and labneh (the epitome of fancy fusion flavors); and the juicy, fatty lamb saddle. The pistachio miso ice cream component of the dessert was divine. These unique shared omakase-style dinners al fresco are not to be missed! Thoughtful service and relaxing garden setting. Probably the best meal I've had since living in Denver for the last 7 years. We went with friends and decided to splurge on the Omakase and so happy we did. It wasn't cheap , but had zero buyers remorse. It was 10 plates and by the last plate we were pleasantly full. I've been to uchi twice now. The first time I did omakase and the second time I thought I should give it another try since people always rave about this place. I am a huge foodie and have tried many omakase and sushi places to find the best one and I would recommend elsewhere. I did not enjoy the food both of my times here, the food was not memorable. I got a wide variety of dishes which included the Hama chili, sushi rice, pork belly, and the sake, bichino, waygu tartare,and the smoked sake nigiri. The waiter also recommended the kosho taro maki roll. Everything was okay, nothing amazing that made me go WOW. The best thing I probably had there was the kosho taro maki roll, but even then you can find better at other restaurants. For the omakase, I barely remembered the experience because the tasting to me was subpar to below that. If you are looking for a good omakase place I would recommend sushi den. Overall, I would not be trying this place again for a third time. read more

As always, my go-to is the bincho. This is a tuna nigiri with some truffle and it truly is perfection. In total, I order 3 orders of the bincho (), the waygu meatball, and the kurodai crudo, along with the seasonal spritz. Everything was DELICIOUS. I loved their crudo--it was such a good balance of salty and sweet and sour. The drink was delicious. I was also lucky enough to get a pour (gartis!) of their white wine (no idea what it was called). A visit to Uchi is truly a treat; the atmosphere, impeccable service and exquisite food make it a special experience. As soon as my husband and I entered the restaurant, I immediately sensed we were in for something unique. The staff is extremely professional, and as we were walked to our table, the elegant space charmed me, with its L-shaped dining room and bar, striking flowery red wallpaper, contemporary concrete accents, and plenty of mixed woods. Every dish we sampled was outstanding, artfully plated and inventive. We noticed that the nigiri was smaller than what we are used to, but personally I like it this way as it makes it easier to eat. We tried a few (small) plates, all of them delicious, and we were especially impressed with the oak-grilled escolar or Walu Walu, the fish cooked perfectly with a caramelized crust. It pains me to do this.... After having been to Uchi half a dozen times in the past year with good experiences, last night was a disaster. We sat at the counter which we have done in the past and just ordered "Feed Me". Tell them what we like and let them run with it. We were essentially ignored. The couple next to us had the same order and dishes were flowing out. We were waiting 20 minutes between each bite. The sushi chef could not have given less of a crap. One the very rare occasion he would ask how we were doing, I said "I'm hungry". Not one single dish stood out as being good. My wife requested that I bring a roll home for her. I had to ask 3x for my request to be acknowledged. Finally, this douche yanked his head out of colon and said "I got you". I asked for a tuna based roll that was creative, high end, with a lot going on. Take a look at the picture of what I was handed to bring home. I could get this at Sam's club. $600 later for two people. I won't be back. This sushi chef is a serious a-hole and should be fired immediately. First, I want to say I am not a seafood eater so this review is based on what *I* ate and the feedback from the rest of the table who *did* eat all of the other dishes. The restaurant is loud but for being rated the top sushi place in Denver, I can't fault them for that. The service was lovely, if at times a little slow. But again, there wasn't an empty table and we had A LOT of people order A LOT of food. The hot rock was... so so good, and I also got the uchi salad which was absolutely delicious. I also ate some tempura veggies and dessert obviously. The people who ordered the omakase tasting I think had the best time. Food came out consistently and they were full. I think the ones who didn't do the omakase tasting didn't get food consistently and were maybe confused by portions. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Denver... Uchi offers non‑traditional Japanese cuisine with signature tastings, sushi, and seasonal omakase. Upon arrival, we were seated in the main dining room and enveloped in Uchi's bustling Japanese ambiance. Our server Emily was attentive & knowledgeable about the menu (she had great recommendations). Uchi has fresh fish, flown in daily & they source their seafood from around the globe - they even have a hydroponic greenhouse situated above the restaurant for their herb & vegetable needs. We saw Uchi's commitment to quality in every dish we had. Generally, at sushi restaurants, there is a plethora of sauces provided - soy sauce, spicy mayo, sriracha, you name it - there is no sauce at Uchi. The restaurant prides themselves on the freshness of the fish and garnishes where no sauce is needed. For cocktails we had the Fiery Yu made with tequila, yuzu honey, thai chili, & lemon. Our meal started with Madai, Japanese Sea Bream and Sake, Atlantic Salmon nigiri. The nigiri is always the start of the show when dining at Uchi in my opinion. The garnishes & ingredients used in the nigiri, always enhance the flavor profiles of the fish beautifully. The Uchi Salad was made with daikon, cashew pesto, wild rice panko, and baby greens. Uchi means house in Japanese, this was their version of a house salad. We were directed to eat the salad bundles with our hands. The salad was bright and fresh with a lovely snap that was tempered by the cool, creamy dressing. The Hot Rock was served with wagyu beef & ponzu. We cooked the gorgeous wagyu to our desired temperature on the hot rock right at the table. The Machi Cure was made with smoked yellowtail Hamachi, yuca crips and marcona almonds (we were instructed to eat this dish like nachos). We grabbed a yuca crisp with a piece of Hamachi & almonds on top - salty & sweet. There were great contrasting textures of the crisp yuca chip against the smooth, cool Hamachi. This was everything a complex sushi dish should be. The Kinoko Nabe was made with mushroom, koshihkari rice, mushroom tentsuyu, and egg yolk. Per the wait staff, we let our rice cook for about 30 seconds in the stone pot to make it nice and crispy. This dish was piping hot, savory, & comforting. The Namahotate, dayboat scallops nigiri were generous in size, so fresh, & absolutely delicious. We had two of the daily specials including the Maguro Crudo was made with big eye tuna, spicy pineapple, mango, & coconut furikake. We booked a reservation for a party of five for a birthday celebration in October 2024. Wow, what an experience. The restaurant is very cleanly designed and well kept. The service is top notch, truly five star attention. Water glasses were never empty and they even brushed the crumbs off the tablecloth in between courses. The food is amazing. I like sushi, but this was no western style sushi rolls. There's no cream cheese or fried rolls available. It's true sushi, and it's delicious. It was really busy and I opt to sit at the sushi bar, which was pretty entertaining. While we waited for our food, I was mesmerized with all the fresh fish laying in front of me. And of course, watching the sushi chef slice each pieces of fish plating them elegantly on a bed of ice. They gave us a citrus plum palette cleanser before our meal and it was yum. I had the oysters with pomegranate foam, wouldn't say it's my favorite but I love oysters. We ordered some nigiri pieces - salmon belly, hamachi, and big eye tuna - ALLLLLL very fresh and wanting more! I also ordered the Kinoko Nabe - absolutely my fav! I'm disheartened to write this review because Uchi has been our go-to for celebrations over the last four years. In fact, upon searching our Google-Check-In's my husband and I have been to Uchi 14 times in the last four years (of which we used Google Maps). Today, we planned to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and my completion of a Doctoral program. I made a reservation four weeks ahead at our favorite spot--the sushi counter. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I was overlooked by the sushi chefs while waiting for my husband. We normally enjoy a 15+ course omakase directly with the chefs, but this time, they did not interact with us or take our order, even avoiding eye contact, while other patrons received attentive service. It was only after my husband inquired that we were informed that our seats did not include a personal sushi chef due to being understaffed. The service lacked the personal touch we valued, and it wasn't until I mentioned our anniversary that the staff realized the oversight. Management tried to rectify the situation by comping our meal and offering a gift card, but the experience fell short of the high standards we've come to expect from Uchi. Here are a few suggestions for Uchi management: 1. Inform guests immediately if their seating does not include an interactive experience. 2. Remove extra seats at the counter to avoid similar situations. 3. Ensure all chefs at least acknowledge guests to avoid any awkwardness. Regrettably, we won't be returning and are now seeking a new sushi spot in Denver to celebrate our special occasions.
