Get the duck egg rolls. The sweet and tangy slaw pairs beautifully with the generous duck slices and the roll itself is not fried but more of a wrap, which somehow works. Service was fine. I had to send back a cocktail for the first time ever due to overwhelming anise component. Bar was unwilling to make drinks not explicitly on the current menu, even those from their own past menus. Other dishes are decent (I sampled bites from most of the menu since my party of 20 chose the "chef's choice" option) , but not standout.

interesting, inventive Chinese joint... catering towards a memorable dining experience... you don't need to hear it from me... it's been recognized by Michelin Guide and if they dial in their presentation a little more, I think it's borderline a one star experience but at a reasonable price. This is a great spot to take out of town guests but I would encourage you to make a reservation as we waited almost 40 minutes on a Monday. The cocktails were ok but the food well it was inspiring. We started with the dragon whiskers which were the perfect blend of acidic, crisp and clean. The duck rolls were also very unique- but the dish that really blew my mind - which is in my opinion hard to execute was the flank steak with tripe; it was perfectly seasoned and the contrasting textures were out of this world. My only feedback would be to increase the size of the standard glass wine pour. Highly recommended thankfully it's in my neck of the woods.

Hop Alley is a popular restaurant with limited seating for larger groups. I'd recommend reservations at least a day ahead if you are planning on going. We had a group of six and though the dishes are meant to be shared, I think the dish sizes are more conducive for a party of four. My recommendations: Sichuan Fish Claypot - flavorful broth with some kick to it. Nice and tender fish. Beijing Duck Roll - I'm kind of a sucker for anything wrapped. This one wrap has seasoned duck with a bunch of veggies for some crunch. Thought these were decent: Gai Lan - Gai Lan with a lot of interesting crispy toppings to give it some variety to the texture La Zi Ji - I'm used to eating this one with a light coating of a wet batter. This was almost like a dry coating/dredge - spicy with a little sweetness. Dragon Whiskers - pea sprouts with garlic and some other additions like flower petals and a big hit of tartness/acid. The other dishes: Bone Marrow Fried Rice - I was expecting something very different, but I thought it was quite normal tasting and cooked to a firmer rice texture than average. Pickles (Yen Tsai) - an interesting assortment of spicy pickled vegetables. No cucumbers but it had cabbage, jalapeños, bean sprouts, and squash Hong You Chao Shou - pork dumplings - this packs a big punch of flavor and spice as the initial taste, but ultimately, I found these dumplings to be way too salty.

Five BIG shining stars for Hop Alley! It was absolutely worth the month-long wait list. Set an alarm- their reservations fill up quickly! Everything we ate was phenomenal! Definitely get the eggplant!

Came here for husband's birthday and it was a very nice experience. This restaurant had been on our list for a long time to try, so lots of hype! Very nice touch to be seated and have a personalized menu printed out with "Happy Birthday". Service was a little slow - we waited a bit before we were able to get our order in. We ordered the GAI LAN broccoli, SICHUAN FISH CLAYPOT, BONE MARROW FRIED RICE, and a special potsticker they had. I think our favorite item we had was the potsticker special - had a great sauce and texture, and good amount of heat. My favorite was the GAI LAN - there was some definite depth of flavor and I loved the wood-grilled flavor. The claypot was fun to try but don't think I'd get again - had a good amount of heat (borderline too much). The fish was cooked well. I wasn't blown away by the bone marrow fried rice - it was solid fried rice but a little bland honestly. I think our bar was so high - it was definitely a good meal and would go back to try other items on the menu.

We had a large group for dinner here of 13 people. They said they'd have a set menu because of the size of the group. The only two downsides were that they didn't give us a heads up on what that menu would be like and didn't give us an option to have some input. At the very least, it would've been nice to know how many dishes were coming out to help us pace ourselves. Instead, we got super full after the 5th course not realizing 5 more were coming out. The highlights were the vegetable dishes and steak dish. I personally also liked the duck wraps and spicy chicken. Most of the others found the chicken too spicy but I enjoyed it. The service was quick and attentive even with such a large group. It's certainly worth checking out.

Delicious dinner date night! My boyfriend and I had dinner at the bar here and enjoyed everything we got. We had gotten many recommendations to come here and also were looking forward to it as we love Uncle, their sister restaurant. The service was great, even though sitting at the bar was not ideal. The interior of the restaurant is nothing special at all. The best thing we had were the duck rolls with the dragon whiskers coming in a close second- we were not expecting them to be so flavorful and delicious! The garlic noodles were really good, just a bit too spicy for me. The Szechuan peppers in many dishes are spicy, but more of a numbing spice than a hot spice, but still got me quite a bit! We got 4 dishes and a mocktail and spent a bit upwards of $100 so not bad for a great date night, leftovers in tow!

It took me too long to finally get here, but man was it good. They were lovely and printed a happy birthday message for our friend on the menu. Big fan of: the orange wine on the menu currently, the duck rolls, the Vietnamese noodles. If they say something is spicy, take their word for it!

More a 3.5 I wanted to like everything more but I found all the food to be a little lackluster, wishing it had a little something else. My friend really enjoyed so maybe my expectations were too high. I thought the seasonal ice cream was a little gummy. Really good old fashioned though :)

The staff went above and beyond for mine and my friend's birthday dinner! Our menus were personalized (although I didn't stick entirely to the gluten free options, it was a thoughtful touch for them to highlight it). The food was pretty good! The highlights for us were the fun music choices in the background, stellar service (Elliot was so supportive and nonjudgmental throughout the entire meal!), and personalized menus. I'd probably come back!

Loved the food and service! We started with the dragon whiskers and the koginut potstickers. The dragon whiskers were so delicious. The greens were full of flavor and the garlic was delicious. I think it may have been a bit too salty personally but I still enjoyed it. The potstickers were really good! I loved the spicy, sweet and tangy flavors each component provided. Was really unique and I've never had anything like it. They were perfectly crispy where they were seared. For our mains we had the cumin lamb and the fried chicken. The cumin lamb had a great rich savory spice that was delicious. The flavors were wonderful and melded together perfectly. I thought this was also a bit salty. The meat was cooked perfectly. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly and I loved the sweet and spicy dry rub. However, this was pretty spicy. We almost finished the dish but it got to be a bit too spicy at the end. I would not recommend this dish unless you have a medium-high spice tolerance. I loved the rice that came in boxes it was cute and they bring refills The drinks were great. I had the martini and I loved the sweet sochu flavor in the drink. The old fashioned was great would highly recommend. Definitely both of those drinks were some of my favorite drinks ever. For dessert we got the mulled wine sorbet and the coconut lime sorbet. The wine was good. I loved the homey flavors and I was satisfied with this one. However, the coconut lime was unbelievable! They were perfectly flavors were perfect and I loved the crunchy coconut bits! Some of the best sorbet I've had in a long time! The service was quick overall and I thought our server was really helpful and professional and so nice. I also liked the ambiance a lot. The music wasn't too loud and the seats were comfy. The decor was trendy and spacious. I wish there was more r&b mixed in because it became too rap heavy for me. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and go back!

I have never enjoyed a restaurant the way I did Hop Alley. The food came out so fresh and the service was top tier. I love that they had unique food options and were extremely considerate of allergies / dietary restrictions. I love the restaurant itself, very well decorated and the music was a straight bop. Can't wait to try it again!

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and overall, I'd say it was pretty solid. It's definitely on the pricier side compared to what I'm used to for Chinese food, but the quality and presentation were both very well done. The standout for me was the bone marrow fried rice--rich, flavorful, and super satisfying. It hit all the right notes and I'd definitely order it again. We also tried the Chinese broccoli, which had a flavor profile I wasn't expecting--but in a good way! Unique and memorable. That said, the fried fish was a miss for me. The flavor was overpowering and not well-balanced, and I've had much better versions elsewhere for a lower price. It just didn't live up to the rest of the meal. Would I go out of my way to come back? Probably not. But if a friend wanted to celebrate here again, I'd be happy to tag along--especially for that fried rice. Just know there are plenty of other spots that offer similar dishes at a more affordable price point.

Is there bar seating for dinner?

Yes, that is where we ordered our dinner, and the two bartenders were great. We met a father and daughter who were there and had a wonderful conversation about the food.

This is my family & I 2nd time here in Denver and after finding this place the 1st visit we make it a point to come to this location. I always get the Mongolian beef with fried rice (no egg; I'm allergic) My husband always gets the General Tso chicken with the fried rice and he ALWAYS orders this and never has a complaint. My son gets the Sesames chicken also with fried rice and it's sweet and crunchy as they fry the chicken to mix in their sauce and it's worth every penny. Every time! Service sometimes can be short in communication but expected especially when they're working all day and don't have time to eat but their food never misses! I am so glad that they are so consistent and have not changed recipes or adjusted seasonings. Ordered our two favorites - pickled pepper beef and mapo tofu. We ordered the fried tofu (with peppers and onions), orange chicken, fried fish fillet, and veggie delight (mixed veggies). The fried fish fillet was definitely the standout. Perfectly crispy on the outside with a light, tangy layer of sauce that added flavor without making it soggy. Easily my favorite dish of the meal. The fried tofu was also really solid and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The peppers and onions complemented it well without overpowering the tofu itself. The orange chicken was okay. I tend to compare orange chicken to Panda Express (probably unfair, but it's my benchmark), and this one didn't quite hit that same balance of crispiness and sauce. I think if it had a bit more meat within each piece, would be better. The mixed vegetables were decent but not something I'd order again. They felt a bit drenched in sauce and didn't have much depth in flavor. One of the highlights of the visit was meeting an elderly woman who helps out when it gets busy. She mentioned she was the former owner. She was incredibly kind, and we ended up having a really nice conversation in Mandarin. That personal touch made the experience even more memorable. Otherwise, really nice venue with lots of space and tables. Waiters always refilled my water, which is a good plus. Also gave me fresh rice when I took the leftovers to go. Overall, a solid meal with a couple standout dishes. I'd definitely come back for the fried fish fillet and tofu. Will be back to try their other dishes.

Service was quick to take the order, refill water and clear out empty plates/steamer baskest. The dishes coming out of the kitchen was at a more erratic pace, but it's all about the food. Mapo tofu was good, with a light slick of chili oil. The flavors were spot on with little chunks of fermented salted broad beans. The heat was also moderate, but it did have a kick as you were eating it. That signature mala numbing spiciness started building, but not hot enough for my palate. Green beans were also nice and tender. Sometimes when they come out the fryer, the skin can be a little leathery, but wasn't present here. BBQ Buns were very soft and tender, loaded with BBQ pork. The shao mai had a nice bouncy texture and cooked well. Shrimp Lo Mein had the flavors of the Chinese American classic, it looks like the noodles were hand made too. Only miss was the shrimp dumplings. They were too close to each other and they stuck together. The wrapper was also overcooked, but somehow the shrimp was not. Nearly impossible to pickup with chopsticks, because the wrapped just fell apart, even with a delicate touch. Worth a stop and probably tastiest Chinese food in the neighborhood. It was getting crowded and there was a wait by the time we left. However it was Denver restaurant week, so not sure how it usually is during the week.

Lately it feels like a lot of restaurants are charging more while giving less, and it's getting harder to find places that actually care about the customer experience. Unfortunately, this was another one of those experiences. We ordered three side dishes and three drinks, and the bill came out to around $100. Two of the three sides were served cold, the dumplings at least came out hot, but they were pretty mediocre and nothing I'd order again and drinks were extremely over priced. The waitress was fine, no real issues there, but it did feel like the food may have been sitting in the kitchen too long before it hit the table even though the place was empty. At the end of the day, it's hard to justify paying that kind of money for cold, underwhelming food, then feeling awkward about the tip because the experience just wasn't good. I won't be back. If I had known this is what the experience was I would have definitely gone somewhere else. As an added bonus I felt like crap afterwords, I think it was because of poor quality ingredients. My aim in writing these reviews is to highlight the restaurants and businesses that truly take care of their customers, to give people a heads up about the ones that clearly do not prioritize quality or the customer experience, and to express myself in a world where it often feels like there is very little room to speak honestly about paying top dollar for mediocre experiences. Very disappointing.
