I came in to rent a van for my apartment move which isn't far at all. I have came to this location 3 times and had a great experience every time besides this one time. Soon as I walked in the person working rudely asked can I help you I told them I wanted to rent a van they told me it was going to be 250$ deposit with a major credit card. I told them why is it so much it never was before. They had told a customer behind me to go around us because we didn't know what we wanted to do. So Julie the person working helped them and I just left. I went to the U-Haul on 46th by airport and the van rental only came up to 113$ and they was so helpful and nice in there I'm not sure why she was being like that to a existing customer but I will steer away from that location for good. read more

I had no issues with this location whatsoever when I needed to rent a cargo van for moving purposes. It was a one day rental for $19.99 and then they charge you about .79 cents per mile. Now I'm super clumsy so I immediately opted for the $10 insurance gap because that's the type of luck I have. The team here was super easy to work with and they were full of joy. this is almost certainly the worst company ive ever dealt with. the trailer location was moved 3 times including 2 locations 2 hours away from the original location requested. they tried to switch me to a smaller trailer with no heads up, then the trailer wasn't even available. Worse i spent over 9 hours on the phone trying to contact their montreal scheduler and never once received an answer . probably spent another 2 hours on online chat forums. Finally the trailer was available 2 days late . poorly trained surly staff. it just keeps getting worse . do whatever you can to avoid this company. read more

I put in for a quote on the U-Haul website and received a call back to speak to a customer service representative. I told her how many rooms I have, the square footage, and the large pieces of furniture (and number of estimated boxes) I have that need to be packed into a U-Haul box. We have a strict deadline to be out of the house for it to be sold and us to move across the country. I was told that all my stuff would fit in two maybe three boxes. I decided to order three so she edited my online order to input the number of boxes and dates. When the movers arrived to move all my stuff into the U-Haul boxes, they told me I needed 5 boxes. I immediately called U-Haul and was told I couldn't get another box for over two weeks. Unfortunately this caused us to have to leave half of our furniture behind AND pay for someone to come pick it up so we could sell our house. I called U-Haul and explained the situation and that I was super upset due to being told by THEIR customer service representative that I only needed three boxes. I received a rude email back claiming they have no records of any phone calls coming to or from my phone number...therefore no compensation would be made. I have records - I have a screenshot of all the calls I received over the last month from them to confirm my order. As a loyal customer, I am beyond upset as now I have to purchase half of my furniture when I reach my destination due to their error. And they claim I made the reservation completely online and that it was my fault for not getting enough boxes. I SPOKE TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP WHO TOLD ME THREE BOXES WOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH. At the end of the day, no responsibility was taken and I am out thousands of dollars. What a waste. NEVER using this company to move again. read more

First off, they had what I needed for the best price. And the flexibility to let me switch my reservation at the counter. A+ for value and service. I interacted directly with four different employees, and they were all outstanding. I witnessed two other employees and their interactions with customers and they were also outstanding. The people working at this location were 100% fantastic. But they could have used another person at the counter to get them through the morning rush. I would up waitng in line nearly half an hour at opening, despite having a reservation. The counter was backed up and the line was long (which also led to periods where the guys working the trucks were having to wait). A third person working the counter would've stremlined the process and led to much less wasted time on the part of both customers and employees. read more

We moved from Austin to Phoenix. We had most of our stuff loaded into a POD and shipped but decided to have a hitch put on our Volvo XC60 and take a few things in a trailer as the POD would not be delivered for a few weeks. Because my father had used U-Haul to put a hitch on his truck, I decided to do the same. I was charged $687 for the hitch install when I scheduled the appointment. Halfway through the installation process, I got a call saying they could not install the wiring on the hitch because the wiring on the Volvo was too small. I said that since they could not hook up the wiring, it was pointless to have the hitch installed. I said that I would be happy to pay for the labor that was done but I did not want a useless hitch on the back of my vehicle. I was told they would refund the cost of the hitch and wiring that was not able to be done. As I said before, they charged nearly $690 for the installation but only refunded me $270 and still installed the hitch. So, now, I have a useless hitch on my Volvo that I cannot use because there is no wiring for the break lights on the trailer. Add to that, I had to rent a truck rather than a trailer which was nearly twice the cost. I was in between a rock and a hard place because of the timing. We had no time to dispute this because the install happened on Friday and we left town the very next day. I have used U-Haul many times in the past and I would have to say this is the first time I've had such a negative experience. Thank God we don't live in Austin anymore because I would not use them EVER! Also, whenever any of our Austin friends mention moving, will discourage them from using any Austin based U-Haul team. I've called this location just about every day and I'm always put on hold or told the person qualified to fill propane is not available. I have personally used their filling machine, a 10yr old could do it. U haul train the staff who sit behind the counter and watch television to use their arms and legs to walk and then use some very simple mindless tasks to fill a tank of propane. Stop saying you offer propane if you can't even dispense the stuff unless it's by some miracle the only staff member who can do it is on hand. Ridiculous. Used to be so reliable but now you're living up to every bad review(and there's a lot) no longer will I be referring or even using your services. Do better, quit cutting costs and go back to a decent service standard. read more

We had just moved to Austin and were being housed at The Domain for 30 days. We found this location online in close proximity to the apartment. We were only planning to drop off the vehicle, but decided to use their storage units as well. This location is not in what feels to be a great neighborhood, but our items were safely stored and the staff could not have been any nicer. Looks like they haven't been reviewed much recently and I think they deserve higher now because I imagine that this a new staff and perhaps new management as well. read more

Frustrating to show up after calling to verify my trailer would be ready and get here to find out I have to go to another store!! Yeah, would have been nice to have been notified. the other store was 28 miles away. GM was "supposed to call"! No text, no email no nothing. Yeah, 100% guaranteed just went to zero. This is what Uhaul did- I rented a retailer from Austin to Seattle. They installed the trailer and everything for me. When I arrived Seattle I heard there was something scratching, so I stopped next to highway, I saw two of the iron chain was off. When I dropped off at the return location, the uhaul guy saw it and he suggested me to contact the insurance company. I did but insurance company said I have to contact the manager at the pick up location. I tried to reach them so many times, and the manager never call me back which he said he will. He was friendly, patient and kind. When I arrive at U-Haul to have my car fitted with the towing hitch, I was greeted right away and helped by two very competent ppl. Everyone was wearing a mask. So my only experience here was trailer hitch installation. It was super easy. People were all business and helpful. Best price by far I had found after multiple calls. The wait was reasonable and they had it back same day. Highly recommend for this service. Also being in the office they looked like they had everything you would ever need for moving and prices were good. DO NOT get your hitch installed here!! They give you an install quote based on an hourly rate/charge but will charge you the full amount even if the installation did not take the amount of time estimated. Speaking with the agent to make the appointment, you are lead to believe their work is done at an hourly rate. In my case, I was quoted $80.00 an hour and 1.30 hours to install a hitch on a 2017 VW Golf for a total of $104.00 pre-tax. The appointment was emailed to me prior to the install. The instructions for the Curt branded hitch stated it should take a "Professional" 30 minutes to install the hitch. Believing the quote was an hourly rate, I mentioned that to the assistant manager Stella and she replied "It all depends on what he finds". The mechanic started working on my vehicle at 10:15 am and was finished by 10:40 am, approximately 25 minutes. Instead of being charged for 25 minutes of work at $80.00 per hour, the manager Sean, charged me the full 1.3 hours at $104.00 before taxes. I protested, stating the reservation showed an estimated hourly rate. How can he charge me for 1.3 hours of work, when it only took 0.42 hours? He stated I was given a rate and that's what it was. I said, then the quote should be a flat rate and be told as such when I make the appointment. I offered to pay half, he responded "Do you want me to take it off then?" Reluctantly, I paid the full amount. BEWARE, they quote you an inflated, hourly based rate knowing full well that it will likely take less time than estimated. Had I been told up front it was going to be a flat rate of $104.00, that would have fine. They do more than enough installs to know that the consumer is getting ripped off. UPDATE: After voicing my concerns with U-Haul, they did a partial refund so I would only be charged for 1 hour of labor. read more

Staff member there was extremely rude and unpleasant. Would not let us have the truck we had reserved, totally screwing up our move. Also, the pods are TERRIBLE, don't use them. Rent bigger pods elsewhere. The size of these are ridiculous, it's hard to fit anything in them. It's also not made clear that you can't access the pods anytime, but have to be there within opening hours so they can unlock for you. The whole experience is a joke. read more

Do a better job next time. You're getting two negative reviews Yelp and Google and another review sent to Uhaul for adding the additional charge for safemove.com. This is not the first time it has happened with Uhaul. It's seems like a tactic to take advantage of customers who are too busy to notice. It becomes a hassle to contact you to have it removed and to verify it has been removed. This is why you are getting the negative reviews. When I ordered my Uhaul I made sure to get the stripped down package no safe move, no dolly, no pads, nothing, I was only traveling 12 miles odds are very slim that something would happen so I made sure to not add any additional coverage. So annoying...If you're upset with me for the reviews, why? How would you like it if companies upcharged you without notice? OH it's happened to you? Shocking. Be a better company. read more

I'd scheduled & paid for a hitch install at the N Lamar location 1.5 weeks prior to the date I need it installed. They called me the day of of the installation to let me know that they "didn't know how I managed to" get myself scheduled for that time as the hitch guy wasn't there in the afternoons on Saturday. The guy was accusatory, rude, and unhelpful. Finally when I demanded what I should do to fix the obvious screw up on their side, he said I could try the Burnet/183 location if I needed it taken care of during the weekend. I called Burnet/183 & Heather was so kind & helpful! She was able to get me scheduled the next day and figured out that my previous payment to N. Lamar was scheduled for reimbursement (Lamar employee mentioned nothing about reimbursing the $386 I'd already paid). I was scheduled for 10am but arrived a little early so I could get a print out showing that I was being reimbursed since the $$ hadn't shown up in my account yet. They got me in 20 minutes early & quickly installed the hitch. They gave me a discount on the hitch installation since I'd been put through the ringer, which I was a pleasant surprise. If you need a hitch installation, it's worth the drive to Burnet & 183 (if you aren't in the area). They are knowledgable, efficient & kind. We had to have a hitch installed on our truck when we bought a travel trailer. My husband called ahead and got an estimate on the work that needed to be done when he made the appointment. (We went with U-Haul because it was less expensive than the RV lot where we were buying the travel trailer and they could do it right away.) The stabilizer bars were not in stock and they installed a better quality set at the original quoted price. The staff were very informative and double-checked with the travel trailer manufacturer to make sure they installed the correct size ball on the hitch. Very satisfied with their work. read more

It was alright. NOthing went horribly wrong but it wasn't exactly super smooth and easy, either. People were nice but everything took a long time - both the check-out and the return. They pulled the truck right around while I was doing the paperwork inside, which was nice. However, I made sure to check the mileage and gas before I drove off - and yeah, lo and behold, the tank had half as much in it as was indicated on the paperwork. Meaning I'd have to pay for extra gas if I hadn't checked it, or pay a fine for "underfilling." They did come out, take a look and manually adjust it with no problems. (And, when I brought the truck back, there were also no problems on that end.) So just keep an eye out and be careful, but people seemed accommodating enough. I had a 24-hour reservation and called towards the end of it to ask if it could be extended (didn't get enough done, of course. Moving.) No problem there. I brought the truck back about 10 or 15 minutes later than the time I'd promised (took too long filling/traffic) but there was no hassle about that. The lamest part was that as I was getting the truck checked out, the dude told me I would be emailed a receipt, or I could go inside and get a printed copy. I kind of wanted to double check before leaving, given the gas tank discrepancy and the extended reservation, but when I went inside there were several people waiting while the one clerk completed a phone call with a customer. I kept hoping the e-receipt would pop up on my phone but eventually just gave up and left. Long story short, it all turned out ok, nothing shady, but the wait and the checkout process was kind of a pain. read more

I needed to rent a truck (pickup truck) for a few hours. They messed up the order twice. They told me to pick it up from another location and the other location was telling me to pick up from this one. They eventually gave me a 14 foot truck which made my rental a lot more inconvenient. The truck was old and the gasoline meter wasn't working properly. Later I complained and they just shrugged. I called the Corporate number they asked me to complain on and they said they would call me back. They never did. Pathetic service, rude employees, and horrible equipment! read more

My review is for this location only, not U-haul as a company.... My husband and I had a hitch and wiring put on our car last weekend at this uhaul location for the purpose of picking up a washer and dryer in Houston that my dad was giving us. Everything seemed fine, they were friendly enough, they said that the wiring was a pain the butt to do on our car. So here is where the 1 star comes in (and I would give them negative 50 stars if I could). We showed up TODAY! At the location in Houston to pick up the trailer, the guy hooks it up to our car and asks us to turn on our lights to check that everything was working, the husband turns them on and off and on again and nothing. Luckily we spend the 5 bucks to buy the lifetime warranty (this is a must) so we didnt have to pay for the nice guys in Houston to look and see what the problem was. It took them no time to find the first problem... they had hotwired the wiring, one of the wires was too short so instead of actually doing their jobs they taped the short wire to another wire with electrical tape so that you couldn't see it, so there was no power going where it needed to. The guys in Houston fixed this and thought that was it, OF COURSE NOT! ALL of the wiring had been installed incorrectly and therefore would blow the fuse everytime we tried to use it. I'm writing this while sitting back at my dad's house waiting for them to finish fixing the car over 5 hours after we were supposed to pick up the trailer. The guys at this Houston location have been nothing but great and I will be writing their store a seperate review but whatever you do DO NOT give this Austin store your business. I have not yet contacted the store about getting any of our money back but will be doing so as soon as this problem is fixed. read more

I reserved a truck online, showed up at 6pm when I said I was going to show up and they had everything ready for me! We picked up a truck at another location and returned it here, hoping to save a bit by not paying for gas both ways. Oh wait, that would be logical! On refilling the tank, put $10 in... gas gauge doesn't move. Another $10... nothing. Another $10 and it jumps from half tank to just under full (we only needed 5/8 in it). Obviously it has a faulty gas gauge. Does U-Haul care? Nope! They refused to reimburse us for the extra 20 bucks. So much for a cheap(ish) furniture move! Screw these guys. After the service here and at the pickup location (Ben White), I won't be doing business with U-Haul in Austin again. A couple of other cities have had decent U-Haul centers, but obviously we don't! read more

I have rented multiple times from this location. Normally, we just rent 5 x 8 trailers for trips with a group. Most of the time, the trailers just look terrible. Interiors are often dirty, and full of "moving materials." If you happen to get one of the trailers with two actual doors, you're in luck... because those with the roll-up style door ALWAYS have door issues. U-Haul as a company needs to address this. Staff is normally very helpful and friendly at this location. No beef with their people. However, today I rented a cargo van to move some boxes. All the "$19.95 a day for in-town moves" is a total load of garbage. That's the pickup fee, but then you are charged mileage PLUS you have to replace the fuel. If I'm paying mileage, I should not have to pay for gas, as well. Van I rented was COVERED (and I'm not kidding) in bird poop. The guy there at least cleaned the poop off of the windshield for us. No idea why they gave us that one, when there were at least 7-8 of them parked there with nothing on them. Don't love this place, but when you have to rent a van/truck/trailer, there are not a lot of options. If you find a better one, please let me know. The expense of all of U-haul's "extra fees" is just insane. read more

I rented a uhaul- used it for less than 10 miles, and had purchased the Insurance. The manager of the store Norvell Eutsy is trying to charge me $600 for some bogus damage!!!! Even with the insurance!!!! I did nit do any damage to the truck. I think this is a scam and will be filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

The person who helped me was a real nice guy, but he wasn't trained properly at all hooking up trailers. Additionally, someone at this location isn't doing maintenance checks on returned inventory which has been a super point of frustration. I tried to rent a tow dolly, something I've done with the same truck for the last five years quite a bit, exclusively through U-Haul due to convenience. As the guy starts hooking the dolly up I switch on the lights and the hazards for the light test. At this time he starts telling me I don't have the proper trailer light wiring (my truck is equipped with every possible trailer light solution as well as trailer brake controller) and that I'm going to need to buy an adapter to convert the flat 5 pin plug to a flat 4 pin even though it says on its cover 4/5 pin outlets. I get him to plug it in and he says "See, the right signal isn't working" and continues to perpetuate my truck is the issue. At this point I ask him if he wants to look online at the diagrams for my switch that shows it's data, he goes and asks his boss instead. A few minutes later still unsure, but stating his boss said it should work he returns with a test light to test the FIFTH PIN where he finds power and seems to still be confused. At this point I walk him through the process to eliminate my vehicle as the issue. He REPEATEDLY wanted use the turn signals instead of hazards, but for diagnostic process and efficiency, the hazards are the move. So after repeatedly trying to explain that I just put the hazards on anyway and instructed him to use pin 4 which is the right side signal wiring. At this point he now sees the test light flashing with my hazards, but he's still confused and wants to check the one labeled "left signal" which is working on the truck. Upon further inspection, the wiring to the right side lamp had been poorly repaired, and I was informed they don't fix the trailers there. He asks me for a sec to go see what he can do. I'm thinking "Cool, this guy is gonna go find one and send me on my way to go get one from another location since they dropped the ball on checking the trailer when it came in"... WRONG. He states it looks like their trailer has an issue and since it's the only one, all he can do is refund my money and that it's unhooked and to have a good day. WOW. So you need to understand, my problem isn't with this guy, Daniel. He was super nice and you could see he was doing his best with what he had been taught, and whoever he was going to and is running the show is dropping the ball. It's not just the training, but oversight of QC on returned equipment is a HUGE safety deal. So the manager from the burnet store calls me this morning. He informs me that my truck is okay (duh, I explained the process of elimination, ie: diagnostic process to your employee the day before because I was being blamed for having faulty equipment) and that it seems whoever did the crappy wiring repair to the right side lamp didn't do it properly and it works and I can come spend my money again. I flat out tell him I'm not paying for a tow dolly after wasting a couple hours of my time yesterday that could have been prevented if they followed company procedures and checked equipment when it's returned. They literally have a station for that. Additionally, I wasn't happy being blamed for the equipment failure being on my end after someone didn't do their job, and I also didn't like to have to explain the diagnostic process and prove that someone repeatedly isn't doing their job. I just don't like being blamed for other people circumventing their responsibility. All in all, this location doesn't value your time as equal to theirs. I work on vehicles for a living and have a $50 minimum, $100 hourly rate. Spending the time diagnosing UHaul's trailer for them fits right there in that $50 minimum range. read more

Then was told I can't pay with my company card when I was assured many times on the phone the day before this would not be an issue. don't visit this location worst experience I've ever had customer service wise read more

The installer was not knowledgeable enough to connect a brake controller at the time of my appointment so I had to reschedule for another visit a week and a half later. They sent a text for an 8 am appointment then when I showed up they said the appointment was for 9 am. To be truthful these people have no clue about customer service, or any sense of thought outside of what they do...rent. read more
