We were BLOWN AWAY by the number of college students, dressed in their Sunday's best, openly praying over their food before enjoying some awesome chicken. It was SO NICE TO SEE! We ordered a family meal (20 pieces), 2 sides of fries and a chicken sandwich meal. We paid around $40. Great value! The food came out quick and arrived hot and fresh. I had a slight "issue" where I thought my chicken wasn't fully cooked and the manager reassured me that it was just breading but happily remade my sandwich to give me peace of mind. I REALLY appreciated that. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, literally leaving "not a fry left behind." The size of my chicken on the sandwich was HUGE- had to be hanging off the roll by 2" on each side! Staff were phenomenal. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Love the laid back decor. Plenty of seating inside and some tables outdoors as well. Definitely recommend!

The Cookshack has a different vibe and feels more like a lunch or dinner spot, while Mess is the perfect breakfast place. Alright, who am I reviewing again? Right. The Cookshack has some great options, and my wife and I went for the Chicken & Waffles. I chose the hottest seasoning they had--pretty sure it was ghost pepper--and yeah, it was spicy but didn't make me miserable. There was a lot of food, and it definitely filled us up. My wife got mac n cheese with hers and really enjoyed every bite. The cashier was nice and attentive. The atmosphere is great for a lunch or dinner date. Plus, they have large booths, which we really appreciate.

The best indicator of this is the multitude of local workers coming by for lunch. The place is eclectic with a hodgepodge of many old curios for sale. I ordered the Upcluck and Away mac and cheese, plus a snack portion of the chicken and waffles with the maple aioli sauce. The food was definitely the highlight. The mac and cheese was really good, and that maple aioli sauce on the chicken and waffles was so good. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the portions were decent for what I ordered. I also got the banana brûlée matcha. It was good, but the matcha itself didn't taste ceremonial grade. It had a slightly chalky texture that took away from it a bit. One downside was the wait. I stood in line for about 30 minutes, which was longer than expected. Overall, the food hits, especially if you're craving something savory and indulgent, but the wait and the drink quality keep it from being a higher rating for me. I'd still come back, just maybe at a less busy time, so not the weekends at all!

So we did. First thing in the morning. Well, 7am when they opened. We were at the door and seated. Coffee arrived and not too long after, a fabulous breakfast. Mrs. K. loved her French Toast which was cooked properly and there was enough to go with us for snacking later. I demolished my breakfast. Uncle Hershel's with basted eggs, bacon, hashbrown casserole and Mrs. K. stole my fried apples. With the biscuits and jam to share, a fabulous meal. We're huge fans of Cracker Barrel because of their support of the RV life and we'll continue to have great meals here as we travel. [Review 376 of 2026 - 693 in Texas - 25561 overall]

It had been ages since I had been, and now as a gluten-free eater, I imagined just country fried steak, biscuits, and green beans. And while they do have these things, I was so happy that they had a quite diverse menu that I ate from with delight. It's not an exaggeration that Cracker Barrel ended up as the highlight of the trip amongst an onslaught of travel issues. The gift shop one walks through to get to the dining area was stuffed with odd but interesting things, and the dining area itself was spacious and heavily decorated, with a large array of windows letting in some sunshine. Our waitress Elena was young, bubbly, and not to be found without a smile on her face. My steak was perfectly cooked, although with a small bite or two of tough gristle, and my chicken was soooo tender. The broccoli had a great crunch and wasn't soggy, the mashed potatoes were hearty and tasted great without a drop of gravy. Their house salad was shockingly good and almost a full meal despite being a side. I also had a nice mimosa. I was glad to have my opinion turned around.

I was pretty delicious and juicy, but nothing spectacular about it. The portions are large for a very affordable price so that's a huge plus. Beefmaster fries wasn't that great, but the fried pickles were nice and crispy and very flavorful. The steak was pretty flavorful, but it was slightly overcooked so make sure you go 1 under on what you actually want. I wanted a perfect medium so I should've went medium rare, but instead I got medium well with some pieces well done. The avocado chicken breast had very little avocado, but as dry as the chicken breast looked, it was actually pretty juicy. Overall, for cheap eats and for some pretty good food, come support this business and bring a patch if you are first responder as it appears they collect them on their wall.
