Not the place to go for a bahn mi. Me and my partner went and the bahn mi itself had no flavor and was super dry. We ended up asking for asking for siracha on the side and used a ton of soy sauce for the flavor. Near the end, I didn't want to even finish eating it because of how bad it was but I wasn't going to let $16 for a bahn mi go to waste My partner also thought the server had an attitude. The deluxe pho had all the meat fixings with homemade beef meatballs, thinly sliced sirloin, and pull apart brisket. The broth was very unique and flavorful, abit on the "dirtier" side (less clear but more umami flavor) sprinkled with kick of black pepper. Honestly I think it could compete with many broths. The noodles and toppings were standard. Overall perfect soup for a chilly rainy day. I only had some bites of the chicken pho but it tasted clean and soothing. The wings in their "pho" sauce were crispy but a little on the saltier side. Almost reminiscent of Korean fried chicken. Service: It was decent. Ambiance: Generally modern decor. Narrow with only about 5-6 tables of seating, so it can fill up fast. We had to wait about 10 min for a table to open up so we could get seated. I am a huge fan of Vietnamese sandwiches and soups!!! First time trying Vietnamese Banh Mi Sandwiches in UWS and thought it was alright. The classic Banh Mi was tasty and refreshing but I wish the bread was warmer. I'm also used to a juicier filling in my Banh Mi sandwiches and thought it was alright. Tasted dry. If you like cold sandwiches you might actually like this one though! I'm definitely curious to try the other Banh Mi's here like the Lemongrass Chicken or the tofu. I loooooove both these kinds of Banh Mi's! I also tried their Mango Jackfruit Sticky Rice drink, which I originally thought was a regular plated sticky rice and not a drink. I might've glanced at the cashier station too quickly when I made my order. The drink tasted refreshing but I couldn't really taste the jackfruit so I was a bit bummed about that. Also, because it's a drink (its texture was smoothie like), it definitely made the chewy rice that I normally love to eat taste a bit soggy. It had sticky rice at the bottom of the cup. I love the flavor idea, but definitely would've loved this more as a regular sticky rice dish. I'd come again and give Two Wheels another chance. The employees were so nice. In truth, this was 3 1/2 star experience but there are a few minor changes that could make it 5. First, the food is delicious. I throughly enjoyed each bite and the service was good. For improvements: the menu price outside is less than the one inside, I would Just remove the outside menu until it's updated. The pho very good, but I would Present the meat at the top of the dish to see how much is there. It seemed like there wasn't much but hard to tell. Chili oil is extra, totally fine! But I recommend upselling that at the sale so the customer doesn't have to get up and ask and do another transaction. I love a good bahn mi and the bread if normally the difference here the pork was. It complimented the veggies perfectly. The sandwich was so good I didn't finish it. decent pho and bun bo hue for a quick service spot. $20 per bowl is an okay price. the flavor was there for both but could have been a little stronger. they do give bean sprouts, jalapenos and stuff for each bowl like you'd get anywhere else. overall pretty good value for a place thats easy to pop into for a meal. if i'm in the area and craving a classic Vietnamese dish, i'd consider coming back. there are vietnamese places all over the city though and i'm still on the hunt for the perfect bowl of pho! read more

I am not sure what happened tonight. Was the chef on vacay? Was it interns' night? Was it let's make everything different and wrong and charge the same price night? We are fans of Two Wheels and have been going for years--so why tonight did they serve us nasty weird food? The truffle fries usually delicious were not done cooking, so like not fried or French. The sandwich had roughly half the tofu and veggies inside. The veggie springrolls had no veggies inside at all, it was tofu. Lastly the chipotle mayo tasted disgusting and rotten-- usually we love this. ALL of these dishes were the same price as they were when they were what they said they were. I went out with a group of my friends a few Saturdays ago in this part of the city and since it was raining that day, we just went with the option closest to where we were. As someone who grew up eating Viet food, I feel like you can never go wrong with it but apparently, you can certainly come close. I can tell this place was definitely not Viet-owned (which does not matter to me at all as long as the food is good). I really liked that there was a kiosk on the side for easy ordering and the variety of drink options available (they even have Asian beer and my favorite Sanzo sparkling water). The food was not authentic but was decent. According to my friends, the banh mi appears to be a better option compared to the other choices. I personally got the bun, which is a vermicelli dish with fresh vegetables (my go-to dish for the summer seasons but I was craving this since I had just returned to wintry NYC from the warm Texas weather), and the Thai iced tea. The bun was mediocre at best with overcooked vermicelli (strands upon strands of noodles snapped as soon I picked it up - typically, you're supposed to run the cooked bun tuoi (vermicelli) under cold water to maintain its springy texture (and to avoid them from clumping together) but judging by how warm the noodles were and the snap-ability of it, this step either never took place or took place way too long ago). The grape tomatoes were also not ripe - in fact, I don't even know what they were doing on top of my bun since it's not normally used as a garnish for this dish. I was also surprised that for a powdered drink, the Thai iced tea lacked sweetness (and this is coming from someone with no sweet tooth - I am absolutely not much of a sweets person and my other reviews will back this up). I cannot comment on my friends' food other than "okay" as described by them since I haven't had any of their food except for the fries - which were dry but the flavor was there. However I must say, the prices for the food were fair. The customer service is in serious need of improvement. Despite this restaurant being a small, casual, no frills place, we took into account that we were coming in as a group and even with separate bills, we all tipped generously. We were ignored by the staff (two ladies (not the proper term for these beings but let's just roll with it) - Chinese and African American) working at the register on multiple occasions. We all purchased drinks here but for some of us who have already finished their drinks or just needed some water to wash down the food, repeatedly asked the staff for a cup water that never came even after we were all done eating and walking out the door (I bring a water bottle with me whenever I go so I was not affected). One of my guy friends even got up and offered to bring the water out from the kitchen if they were too busy (my friends and I are nurses, so we are all too familiar with the term "busy"). The displays of unprofessionalism continued as these two girls went on to engage in a heated verbal argument with a couple of other customers (wow, lunch AND a show) and we're not the only ones seeing this - the tables on the ends were also witnessing this (one guy even pulled out his phone). This was a truly unforgettable experience and despite all, my friends didn't discredit me for bringing them here. Luckily, they still continue to trust me as the foodie of the group and I've decided that I'll just make group reservations for us at more reputable places from now on to avoid fiascos like this. read more

What a surprise. We checked into our hotel and headed out to grab a drink, only to realize that we were super hungry. Passed by this place and couldn't resist - - it's a small order-at-the-counter type of place, with a few tables for dining in. It doesn't have a huge menu but what we had was absolutely delicious. Their Vietnamese Crepe - - I added yummy shrimp - - is served like tacos, very different from what I've seen before but so so tasty. Quick little shop for Vietnamese food. Ordered at the kiosk, and they didn't end up having the drink I ordered and paid for, so they refunded me the price of the drink. Not to be rude, but I am unhappy that I had to tip on the drink that I didn't even receive and we didn't even get waited on. I think the kiosk added the tip automatically and I didn't realize until I had already paid. As for food, I orrdered the Bun Bo Hue, and after adding in some sriracha, it tasted almost like it should. The worst Vietnamese food I've ever had in my life! The banh mi looked like a hero from the corner deli. And tasted worse. The "truffle" fries came with ketchup and Italian dressing, and no truffle taste. It was dusted with cheese, which I guess substituted for the truffle oil. Solid little Vietnamese spot on the Upper West Side. I ordered the Vermicelli Bowl with Pork ($14.49), which was high quality with flavorful pork and fresh veggies. The noodles were classic vermicelli noodles. The portion size was decent for the price. I also got the Lychee Strawberry Fruit Smoothie ($5.95), which was delicious and actually tasted more like a milkshake than a normal fruit smoothie in terms of flavor and creamy/icy consistency. The place itself is kind of small with around 5-6 small tables inside and a clean interior. You order up front and they bring the food to you. The staff are friendly and the service speed is quick. There was only one other person in line ahead of us and we were able to get a table on a Saturday night despite the small size of the restaurant. Overall, Two Wheels earns a solid 4 stars from me. It's not super authentic, but definitely has sit-down restaurant quality food with fast casual speed. I order here frequently because we live around the corner. I've noticed discrepancies between their online prices and the prices actually charged. The banh mis are 12.95 on their online menu but when we get the bill after ordering for pick up it's actually 13.95. If it was delivery I could understand that, I decided against delivery for this very reason, but if the price is the same and that would be helpful to know. Nitpicking here, but when I brought this to the staff, they didn't apologize or offer to comp the difference (albeit one dollar), they just blamed the owner and said nothing. Really frustrating experience and will make me think twice about going back, even if convenient. I had high hopes when I chose to lunch at Two Wheels on A'Dam. It all sorta spiraled from there... I ordered the crispy spring rolls "with lettuce" as i love the traditional manner of wrapping the rolls in lettuce. I was given option or chicken or vegetable rolls. I chose veggie option. I also got the traditional Bahn Mi and asked for water. I paid but didn't leave a prepaid tip just then. I wonder in hindsight if this irked the person behind the register. In "self-serve" places I sometimes leave tips either to the end or keep them on the smaller side as the service is almost non-existent (I was a waiter for almost 20 years so give me some slack here...) Ok so the spring rolls started the spiral effect. No lettuce (and a bit too greasy). I brought them up to register and the person said they don't do that anymore, despite the mention in menu. I said I only got them because of how they were described on menu. She offered a refund which i declined. I should have accepted offer as at first bit they were awful. A paste of bland mush that seemed to strike me of chicken. I got back up and apologized for my repeated inquiries but was this chicken? I ordered vegetable. She gave me some lack luster explanation of puréed veggies and tofu. Weird and I've never encountered that so i retreated with the rolls due to my hunger. The Bahn Mi. Tasty and fine but weirdly long and not cut in two. Before i get grief about "mommy cutting your food" jokes-- this object was objectively long, like 17-18" and would have been appreciated cut in twain. I did not complain about this.....BUT The spiral continues. The water glass was like 1/2 full. Again i wondered in a semi-paranoid way if she was miffed at not being tipped. I dont like making up stories. I dont like being distracted by petty stuff while dining. It's all on me. But the number of strikes against this experience was mounting. I finished my water in .005 of a second and went BACK up to the counter for more (I believe it was at this point I contemplated something i NEVER do which is not to tip at all..) I asked EXTRA politely for more water and she filled up a glass brimming with luke warm and cloudy water from nearby sink, not even bothering with any ice. I was so put-off by it all- the sense of attitude, the cloudy water, the food, that i contemplated tossing the water out on the sidewalk. but I simply turned and returned it silently and took an empty glass from their counter rack. I filled it with my own water from my water bottle. This self-service restaurant experience was earning its name and then some. I ate and left. I'm still pondering what to leave as a tip. read more

If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food, then this is the place to steer away from. Was hoping for a better experience when walking into this restaurant and not only was I disappointed of the food, but the service was poor. Service (1 out of 5) - it was 10pm and they told us we had to finish our food by 10:30pm despite door closing at 11PM. Two Wheels Pho (1 out of 5) - The broth was extremely bland and banh pho was undercooked. Completely lacked any depth and seasoning. Somehow this place managed to undercook the noodles which is difficult to achieve if your water is hot enough to properly cook it. Literally takes a few seconds in boiling water to cook the noodles. Would suggest they actually go try a place that serves authentic pho to get an idea of what it should taste like. They also provided me with a plastic spoon that you'd get for a delivery so even getting any broth or noodles into it was nearly impossible. Chicken spring rolls (2.5 out of 5) - Was decent, but nothing traditional about these either. meat was a bit ground up too much for my taste, but it was edible. Again, not a place I would recommend at all if you're looking for a full on authentic Vietnamese meal. There are other Vietnamese restaurants in UWS that exceed Two Wheels. If not UWS, I would say make the trek down into Chinatown. read more

It was really flavorful and a good portion. We also had the pork banh mi which was also good, but I don't know if it was assembled well because it wasn't as, I guess the word is savory, as other banh mi sandwiches I've had. It's not bad but it's far from authentic. Until I find an even closer pho restaurant within walking distance I'd go back, but it's so far from California standards. Some specifics: -the bread is a French baguette. No attempt to get close to the traditional banh mi type of bread. -the bun bo hue is a disgrace. You shouldn't put that on your menu as a special if you aren't going to commit to it. Pretty sure it's just the pho broth with different noodles and chili oil on top. No lemongrass flavor and no pork cuts that you'd normally see -beef meatballs appear homemade but taste like Italian sausages. Just buy the frozen kind - it's a completely different texture -I'm wondering if the pho broth is made from scratch or powdered.
