The aesthetic here is very nice - light, airy, and pleasant - a nice morning breakfast spot. My experience food-wise was mixed. The avocado toast had absolutely incredible flavor, but even right after it was served the toast was completely soggy - fully saturated. That may be because of the base mixture they used, but as a result there was no crispness to the toast at all and it caused the whole thing to fall apart while eating. The eggs were good, though I didn't notice any basic seasoning which would have been a nice addition. The bacon was great, cooked perfectly and with excellent flavor. The staff was very nice, but it appears that they don't assign servers to specific tables (one server mentioned that everyone just jumps in and works together to cover everything where needed). I understand that model, but it took a while to get a server when after we sat down, and we had to flag someone else down to close out - after we sat there a while - once we'd finished our meal. All in all though, it was a pleasant experience with good food, friendly staff, and very enjoyable decor! read more

5 stars cuz that lavender matcha latte was amazing (and I usually don't use that adjective for lattes since I've never really been a big fan -- I know, I know, I'm not weird, I just prefer green tea boba for my caffeine fix lol). The food was not anything outstanding and definitely overpriced. I already forgot what I got since it didn't "wow" me, but for sure I would and *will* come back for that latte AND the lemon poppyseed waffle (it was nice and warm and actually captured the essence of the flavor). My friend got the Avocado Toast, but she felt that the cucumber bits were a little too random in there. My sis also got some kind of bread with egg on top like me. I must be fair and say: I liked the crunchiness of the hashbrowns as well as trying soft-ribboned eggs for the first time! Such a cute restaurant towards the end of SoCo. Their poppyseed waffles has this delightfully fluffy mascarpone cream, and the burger was perfectly cheesy with a loaded and toasted sesame bun. Great place for brunch. read more

Went to two hands a lil while ago and one of the waitresses was a r*cist or something... decided to eat outside and were being covered by an umbrella then the waitress comes and moves it to an empty table??? I asked her if she was going to bring another umbrella because we would like to be covered (like Texas heat can be brutal??) and in the sassiest tone she was like "well is it raining or something? We need to keep the umbrellas where the sun is hitting." I also noticed that my partner and I were the only poc that weren't under an umbrella while everyone else was well shaded by one. Stopped by Two Hands for some coffee (a flat white and an Americano) and enjoyed my drink. The staff at the window were friendly and the drinks came out promptly. I personally find it a little ridiculous that the almond/oat milks were a $1 additional charge but maybe it's a result of COVID supply chain issues. read more

We were very excited to try Two Hands, but were sadly very disappointed. Our server was very unfriendly, cold, and didn't check on us. We both ordered the avocado toast with poached eggs. Our eggs arrived completely over cooked. The yolks were cooked solid. The staff took the dishes back and brought us new eggs, which were much better. But then I found a whole produce sticker in my avocado. Between the service, the overcooked eggs, and the produce sticker it was a pretty awful dining experience. But I still give Two Hands a star because Emma (perhaps she is the manager?) was very kind and friendly. She even comped our entire bill due to the bad experience. Thank you, Emma! read more

Four of us has breakfast here on Saturday morning. We didn't have a reservation, however they found us a table. Great outdoor patio. Two of us had the avocado toast. It was good, and very simple. Love two hands, frequented this place a lot in 2021! I miss their old avocado toast, the new version is decent but the chili oil is incredible and really "made" it. Their coffee is good, the service is great, and their drinks are solid as well. One of my favorite brunch spots on south Congress. Glad they came down from NYC to open up a location here! It seems to have done pretty well since it opened and is always packed on the weekends. They accept walk ins but I highly recommend reservations on the weekends. read more

I opened the first Two Hands in New York City in 2014 with the goal of creating a community-focused space serving food and drinks with a health-conscious and forward-thinking culinary approach. Think pink velvet draped everywhere, a life-size taxidermy leopard in the middle of the bar, and flamingo sculptures scattered throughout. It's gorgeous. There's plenty of seating between the booths/couches and the bar, and they seat you according to your party size. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.

I come by here every couple of weeks and hang around the bar top. 2 Hands is always pristinely clean from the entry to the bathrooms. We were heading to Alamo Drafthouse for an afternoon movie and decided to stop in and try this place. The restaurant is in an old house, which gives it a nice French-colonial feel. Fair warning, though: the inside is super loud. It's an open room with tile floors, so sound just bounces off the walls. Fine if you're with a group and want energy. On a date, you'll be raising your voice just to be heard--and the whole room will hear you too. Now the food. The spring rolls are the highlight. They're more refined than the plain ones you get at most traditional Vietnamese spots. We had the BBQ pork spring roll and it was excellent--really delightful. I ordered the Bún Bò Huế and rated it on three things: soup, toppings, and noodles. Soup -- The broth is tangy and spicy. Best version I've had in Austin. Solid 5 stars. Toppings -- Pork belly and a poached egg. The poached egg is unusual for Bún Bò Huế, but it worked. The pork belly was nicely fatty the way it should be. The meat itself didn't have a lot of flavor on its own--the broth kind of took over. Not sure if that's a knock or a compliment. There was a generous amount of meat, which meat lovers will appreciate. 3 stars. Noodles -- This is the weak point. The worst thing you can do to noodles for someone who eats with chopsticks is cut them. I get that short noodles are easier for people who don't use chopsticks, but this is Bún Bò Huế. Texture was fine; I just couldn't get past the short pieces. 1 star. Overall: 3.5 stars for the Bún Bò Huế. If they hadn't cut the noodles, this would easily be 4.5. I'll definitely come back for more spring rolls and to try other dishes--everything else looked good.

There is a QR code that you're required to use to join the waitlist/queue, but this is not clearly communicated on their website. You essentially have to arrive at the restaurant and figure it out once you're there. For a restaurant that is known for having long waits and high traffic, I feel like this information should be clearly stated online so people can plan accordingly. Once I joined the queue, I was number 43 and ended up waiting about an hour and a half before being seated. I understand that popular restaurants can have long wait times, but the lack of transparency about how the process works made the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. Once inside, the ambiance was actually quite quaint and charming. That said, considering how much traffic this restaurant gets, I was surprised by how limited the space is. I honestly think expanding the property would make a huge difference, although I understand that may not be entirely within their control. One thing I will give them major credit for is the menu. Online, the selection makes it look somewhat limited, but once you're there, they actually have 50+ food options, so there is plenty to choose from. That was definitely a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, my entrée was disappointing. I ordered a shredded beef taco with salsa and substituted a side salad. The beef was extremely tender, but unfortunately, it was also very dry. The salad was another disappointment because the vinaigrette was honestly not good. I don't think I've ever had a vinaigrette that I actively disliked until this meal. Thankfully, my fiancé had a much better experience. He ordered an enchilada and said it was one of the top five enchiladas he's ever had, so clearly there are some standout dishes on the menu. That definitely made me curious about trying something different if I ever return. I also really enjoyed that they offer hibiscus tea. I was very happy to see it on the menu, although I personally think it would be better served on its own rather than incorporated into one of their mixed drinks. The drink itself was just okay, but the hibiscus flavor was great. Overall, I can see why this place has become an Austin staple, but I think the experience could be improved significantly by making the waitlist process much clearer online and by improving the consistency of some of the food. The menu has a lot of potential, and clearly, some dishes are excellent! Unfortunately, mine just wasn't one of them.

Considering the price of each plate, I'd say it's mainly worth visiting if Swift's Attic has been on your list and you're curious to try it for yourself. Otherwise, Austin has plenty of other dinner spots that offer a more satisfying experience and better value.
