I don't get to eat Burgers like I used to, but I'm glad that Twisted Root is around to make sure the ones I have are really good. Been to this location three times, visited other locations in town before as well with similar experiences. Fries are decent. Onion rings could be a lot better, but they are what they are, basically toppings for other burgers on the menu. Pickle bar is a nice way to wait out your food with some tasty and free nibbles. The Dill is probably the best one on there though. Ranch gets salty fast and you either love bread and butter pickles or you don't, so I am not a fan of those, but my wife loves them. The hot ones really didn't do anything for me, other than being hot. Onto the burgers. You get your order in and you're given a ticket with a celebrity name on it. Keep the celebrity in mind while you wait because you won't strictly hear the name as it's written. We had "Dr. Dre" and we were asked if we had a medical practitioner in the restaurant before I heard "Dre". It's cute, but if I'm talking to someone or distracted by my phone, you might miss the joke. Wife ordered the Southern Comfort, which was really amazing. I had the Western burger minus the jalapenos. You can order the burgers any temperature, but you have to ask, otherwise they go to medium well, which, in my opinion is way too cooked for my taste. Only criticism of the burger itself was that I finished it and wanted more. Came out perfectly medium rare for both burgers. Restroom is full of Chuck Norris jokes, and I keep meaning to write one a political statement about Chuck Norris, but I don't think they'd appreciate it. I'm ready to read some other jokes about celebrities who aren't fear mongering right wing nutjobs honestly. read more

We LOVE Twisted Root Burger Co. in Carrollton, TX.!!! And tonight, 7/02/2015, we were just about to finish our wonderful meal when one of the Twisted Root Team members walked over to our table and handed us a $20.00 gift card that someone in the restaurant had sent to us - Surprise and astonishment cannot explain how we felt, but most of all we were 'humbled' that "total strangers" were so kind - if you are the people who did this wonder act of kindness and you read this, please, please accept our spectacular 'THANK YOU' for being so kind and generous!!! Please know we have done this for others in the past and it is so wonderful see this 'act of kindness' being passed on to us - see, it can be 'passed forward'!. YOU ROCK!!! The turkey burgers are so awesome for me since I can't eat beef...my husband loves the 'Shroom Burger' and onion strings. And just when we thought that have the best Root Beer around couldn't get any better, when we went tonight, 7/02/2015, you had 'Watermelon Ice Tea' ....WHAT??? It was sooooo good. We appreciate all the kind and helpful 'Twisted Team members'!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience, Tracy & Kay read more

I keep forgetting about this location since I normally go to the downtown location or the Shops at Legacy. The staff were friendly and the food came out great. Every time I come I like to try different burgers or shake... I love their fried green beans and their sauces are amazing. I like to mix up my sauces hehe. read more

I have been to Twister Root several times, and in several different locations, but our last few trips were at this one. I remember loving Twisted Root but now that I've had better burgers elsewhere, I only dine there if I have to. That or maybe some things just change when you start becoming a chain. Their buns are so dense and heavy, and I'm not a huge fan of it. They do have great toppings and combinations, but it just doesn't justify the price of a burger + fries + drink. Meat is pretty great and cooked well. The veggie patty isn't too bad, but pairing a dense veggie patty with a dense bun makes for quite a try and heavy combination. I sometimes have the urge to get fried pickles, and then slap myself for it every time because they were just as salty as the last one I ordered. If I want fancy, overpriced burgers, I'd rather go to Hopdoddy. This location does have a pool table. So that's nice. read more

I came here at the recommendation of English tutor. It was pretty good, especially the bread & butter pickles. I had the mushrooms Swiss buger with fried egg. The egg was too over cooked. But the patty was just the way I like it. I wish they wouldn't put sugar on the sweet potato chips. read more

This place used to be one of my favorites. The most recent time I went, we asked for medium and the burger was red and gooey. The fries were cheaply done with a big block of cheese baked on top. I hope they get better. read more

Another Guy Fieri find. Their burgers are freshly made and certainly don't skimp on piling on the calories! If that's not enough, try one of their homemade milkshakes (drool....) and to kick it up a notch just pour in some booze. Aside from their burgers and shakes, the thing I enjoyed most about this place is their love of pickles! Fried pickles are delicious. Their serve yourself picke bar is where it's at - YUMMY! Dill, Sweet & Spicy, Bread and Butter and Atomic are their offerings. I enjoyed munching on a few of them before my main course arrived. read more

Sometimes you get the perfect match of great food and fun atmosphere. This place is it. Great service (take note full-service restaurants). You don't need waiter service to make a great impression. The burgers and ingredients are fresh and the drinks are cold. The pickle bar is a must-try and the beer-marinated grilled onions are great on your burger or on your fries. Give this place a try. You'll love yourself for it. read more

No too impressed this time around. The burger was bland even with all my toppings on it. I was expecting something wonderful and left disappointed. The minute I took a bite, my first thought was oh-oh! That's it! This is what I've been waiting for all day. CMON MAN! Oh well, I guess they had a bad day. It happens... read more

The Twisted Root in Carrollton is a disgusting establishment run by an even more disgusting manager. I was there trying to enjoy my food when the manager refused service to a black homeless man. There's a sign on the door that says "no shirt, no shoes no service" but the man was fully clothed and the manager denied him cause quote "he was homeless". This was all going down while rats and roaches were having a turf war over dirty plates at the next table over. I hope the manager gets fired and this place gets shut down for good. read more

After they moved out from Shops at Legacy, could not get a good veg burger. One time though i found at airport, they ran out of veg patties :( Finally after so long got to eat the Vegabond & Hersheys chocolate shake. My carnivores husband also agreed the veg was good :) Please open a store in Plano, near shops at Legacy again. read more

I love this location! They have a large outside patio area so you can sit outside when you're eating and drinking, a decent sized main eating area with two pool tables, a really cool bar with several beers on draft and they use kegs as the bar stools. The area where you order has their own brand name of sodas and lemon aid to drink. They have several different options for burgers so you can get what's on the menu and then every day they also have a special type of meat for the day. Also in a really cool area that feels really small town Texas. read more

Hot fresh and great taste turkey burger is a fav and not a long wait at least for call in orders!

The food was cold look like it was ordered earlier by someone else and left. So they gave it to me. I ordered the mushroom burger. The cheese was cold and dry on cold meat. The fries were cold they obviously to had been sitting out also. I took it back received a replacement. It was hotter both fries and burger. After biting into the burger I noticed the flavor and texture was odd. It did not look or taste like beef. Meat just doesn't taste right. I think it was plant processed man made. Which to me is worst then real meat. I went there for o get a real medium rare burger. instead I got a plastic cold/hot burger. Back in the day there burgers were good. Not any more read more

My favorite is Lots of Shroom with buffalo meat. Great burger, really great burger. What I like most about TRB is the consistency. I have never had a sub par burger. Do not recommend unless you have a whole night to wait. One cashier on a friday night. Took 30 min just to get near the counter.

This burger place is amazing. I love the creative flavor combos and the different types of meat you can select. The homemade pickles are tasty. I enjoyed the ranch ones the most. The peanut butter brownie milkshake is bomb. Lots of chunks of brownie and you can see the swirls of peanut butter in it. Will definitely be back! read more

I tried Twisted Root for the first time the other night. It has a cool concept. The design seems kind of industrial inside. I ordered The Kevin Bacon (comes with 3 pieces of bacon and a mound of bleu cheese) and my dining companion ordered LotsaShroom ( mushrooms and swiss) and we shared an order of Fried Onion Strings. Everything was delicious. The onion strings were a little saltier than I normally eat but they were good though. When you eat here make sure that you are really hungry because the burgers are huge. Also make sure that what you are hungry for is a hamburger. They have watermelon ice tea. It's really tasty. I'm kind of a tea fanatic. The ordering system here is fun. After placing your order they give you a "name" instead of a number when it's time to come pick up your order. We got to be Ice Cube. My dining companion decided that name required doing a little rapping so that was a hilarious added bonus for me. They also have an extensive shake menu so I'm going to have to visit Twisted Root Burger many, many times. read more

Very average location. There are better burgers out there. Had a chicken breast (compressed) sandwich. Overpriced and underwhelmed.

Twisted Root is a fun place to go with a group. It's comfortable and fun, and there's lots of cutesy, not too gimmicky burger joint essentials that make it a Dallas institution. First off, the custard shakes. Get one. Some people in my group had two (don't judge, just try one, and you'll need one as an appetizer and dessert). I had the PB and brownie shake, but you can customize it however you want. They had "adult" milkshakes, but you can spike anything and create your own concoction. As for mine, it was filled with so many PB cups and brownie pieces. Definitely worth the $4.50. Could I have shared? Yes. Did I offer to? No, I did not. You order at the bar or cashier, and they give you a piece of paper with an artist or band name. You collect your order when you hear the waiter / waitress singing. Like I said, right amount of burger joint gimmicky. After you collect your food, check out the house made pickle bar. When you sit down, try the sauces. The house made horseradish-Dijon was amazing. I would totally buy that separately and put it on everything. Food-wise, Twisted Root has your standard beef, turkey, and black bean, and also adds in a buffalo (heart-healthy, woo!) option. They also have rotating game meats. Online, I was excited by the possibility of camel, but to my dismay, they had buffalo and "buffison" (buffalo-venison?). You can get it with a variety of different buns, including gluten-free and pretzel. I tried the whole wheat on my Lost Mexican buffalo burger (blue cheese and jalapeños), and I was pleased. The pretzel bread tasted like a stale croissant. The burger was decent, but again, not the best buffalo burger I've ever had. Will I be back? Probably. The burger warrants 3 stars, and the shake bumps it up. read more

Cool place to go. I think all the hype raised my expectations to an ultimate peak. I like their creative burger ideas, but found that the patty itself just didn't have that burger flavor. I had the Goatman burger, the first time I had goat cheese on a burger, and the tanginess really worked for me! In my opinion the BBQ sauce was a little too hot. I liked their seasoned fries, but way too salty. I wasn't drinking a beer so it was hard to wash down. As for the pickle bar...amazing! Love the atomic and regular, but hated the ranch. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I had a group of 20 I was taking to this location arriving 1 hour before closing ... I called as a courtesy to let them know we were coming and they told me they wouldn't serve us if we didn't get there by 45 min prior and that they would charge us a 25% tip fee for groups 10 or more. I said that I would be there in plenty of time and was told again only if I got there in that time. The tone was rude and disappointing. I took my business elsewhere! The customer service could definitely be improved. read more

The burgers are very customizable and can also be overwhelming. Still taking the time to figure out what you want can bring your anticipation to full circle. It brings out the fun in a burger as you customize to your taste. Their pickles are divine and so are their side items. I do feel that their burgers have a hard time staying together and their buns are not too special. You will feel pretty satiated and heavy from the grease and cheese. Very iconic interior with rustic hues. Great to bring some Bros for a bite. read more

I was in Dallas for business and decided to stop here on a whim, as I was craving a good burger. I sat up at the bar and the bartender was SO nice and gave recommendations to try some local beer. The location is not great, as the surrounding area seemed a little run down. I got my very first bison burger and it was spot on! Delicious burger and great service. Always a good meal. Unfortunately, I asked for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun on the wrong burger and it was really juicy and runny, so consider that before you choose lettuce. I like how open this one was but weird that the bar and restaurant were separated. They were a little stingy on the fried pickles though, the Twisted Root in Deep Ellum gives much bigger portions of that. The toasted marshmallow s'more shake is sooooooooooooooooooo good! read more

First off, I have to say that I was completely surprised that there was a Twisted Root Burger at this location. I come to downtown Carrollton every once in a while to hit up Babe's or just to walk around the area and apparently I was oblivious to this location even though it's been open for more than half a year. That might explain why this place was nearly empty when I went there for lunch with some coworkers. This place is pretty large and at the ground floor of a fairly new housing complex by the DART station. It was filled with your typical random kitsch decorations and also contained two billiard tables. If you've been to the other Twisted Root locations then you pretty much know what's on the menu. Buffalo, Elk, and Buffison were the game choices when I went (I'm assuming that's a mix of venison and buffalo). I decided to order a side of sweet potato chips and their special, the Literally Hot Hot Dog, which was a footlong beef dog covered in nacho cheese and habanero relish. The chips were nice, crisp, and obviously freshly made. They had a nice sweet flavor from the dusting of what I think was sugar and cinnamon. The hot dog however, was a bit underwhelming. The dog itself was tasty as was (what I think) the brioche bun it came on but the spiciness level of the habanero relish barely even approached jalapeno level. I was warned I would need multiple cups of water but I didn't take a single sip the entire meal. Maybe my taste buds are just too numb to spicy foods now, I don't know. Largest surprise came when looking over the drink menu. I saw $2 PBR and a list of $2 drafts, which definitely makes it one of the cheaper places around the area. I now have this place on my list of potential happy hour places so I'll definitely be back to give that a try once I can get something going. Service here was a mixed bag. The staff was great and very helpful, but it took quite a while for food to come out. Not only that, the order of how the food came out was very jumbled as people who arrived a lot later got their burgers before we received some of ours. I luckily got my order pretty quickly, but some of my coworkers weren't so lucky. read more

I had visited once before and wasn't a fan. A friend invited me to go out to dinner with him and suggested this place. I decided to give it another go. The food is so bad. They gave me cold fries and when I asked them for hot fries, It felt like they stuck them in the microwave for like 30 or less seconds cause they came back to my table pretty quick and they weren't that warm still. The chicken in the salad I got was also cold (yes I got a salad and fries I'm weird). The burger my friend bought was also not good. It upsets me because their food is not cheap and you expect the quality to be better than Mc. Donald's or Burger King. The workers were friendly enough. They have funny memes everywhere which is why I gave them an extra star (for the effort). read more

Love this place! Been here a few times (always ordered The Western) and have never been disappointed. Great food, fun staff, and wonderful customer service! I thought this was a solid burger place. They had lots of options and would customize your burger any way that you wanted. I got a beef burger cooked medium with bacon and a fried egg and fries. The fries were good and the burger was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The pickle bar was an added plus. My only gripe is with the egg. I order a fried egg on top of my burger everywhere that offers them. Twisted Root cooks the egg all the way through. The whole point of a fried egg on a burger is the ooey gooey goodness from the runny egg. I guess next time I will know to ask for it not cooked all the way. Overall, a good experience. read more

This was my first time at Twisted Root Burger and I had an amazing time with friends. My friends have raved about this place for months so we decided to give it a try. It was a Sunday evening and there were many customers - we waited in line for almost 15 minutes to order. I ordered the Lots-a shroom burger with the straight-cut fries for less than $10! When you order, they give you a name card with a celebrity name or a character, so when your order is ready for pick-up, they call the name of the card. I only waited for 5-10ish minutes for my food. I dug in right away and the food was phenomenal. I also took advantage of the chipotle ketchup, which is now my favorite condiment! The fries were seasoned well and the burger was full of flavor. I love the ambience - will be back! read more

Tried this place for the first time today and OMG I'm already wanting to go back! This place has a very "Austin" vibe so I was a little nervous at first. I ordered the Ranch Hand and cheddar fries with bacon and it was soooo good! And the pickle bar?! I had 4 helps of the ranch pickles, I really could have done more! Hubby had the same and the watermelon lemonade, it was great too btw. I was a little caught off guard on how they call you to get your order, I was given the name "Princess Leia" but all weirdness aside, the food was phenomenal! read more

ok, so I'm in town visiting family, and you know Texans like their MEAT!!! Well this place has every kind of meat you could imagine (and some that would shock you!!) I'm a simple girl... chicken or hamburger is fine for me... but if you're in the mood for gator, or bison or beaver... then this is the place to go!! There are many other meats available, but I can't remember them all off the top of my head. My burger was DELISH! Cooked to perfection!! I also ordered the coconut shake which was AWESOME!!! There are the usual side items (fried, onion rings, etc.) but I could barely finish my burger!! Minimal outdoor seating and lots of tables inside as well. Beer too!! read more

What a playful restaurant! Went to the Twisted Root in Carrollton for the first time and really enjoyed myself. It's mostly a burger joint, but I've rarely had a better burger. I opted for the Big Tex, a huge Pattie loaded with fried onion strings, cheese, guacamole, and chipotle sauce. Thems good eats. I also was advised to get a side of peanut butter to go with the sweet potato chips and was surprised how good it was. My wife had the Cobb Salad and was suitably impressed. Great place to take kids and we even played a few rounds of pool. Only negative were that I didn't care for their custard based shakes. read more
