You CAN NOT go wrong with Babe's. I just wish they had delivery. The guy doing the curbside was very pleasant BUT I had to get out the house. LOL

I'm in town from Philly. My hosts catered an entire meal from here. This was my first real meal in Texas. Ok, now I see why everything is bigger in Texas. I took a two hour nap before this meal just to get my strength. After eating this meal, I want to go back to bed. This is a good thing. Seriously. This meal is the ultimate comfort food. I loved everything. But I have to say that smoked chicken is special. You can tell it spent hours in the smoke. Well done, Dallas. You won me over.

First time here in January 2026 and I absolutely loved it. I read how they recently got awarded best Chicken Fried Steak in Dallas and I've gotta say this was the best I've ever had. The steak was tender and fried with the crispiest lightest batter. $20 gets you a protein and the sides are unlimited including delicious golden biscuits. And while the food quality is not Michelin star farm to table, they've got a good thing going and it's all made daily. Plus, it's so nice being in a restaurant with families, friends, and dates all bustling about with a good value huge meal. Jessica is an awesome server, and the team even does some line dancing, at least they did on a Saturday afternoon. Lots of smiles, will come back 100%.

After being feed the word at church we needed to be feed some good ole chicken from Babe's Chicken Dinner House. We got there a little early before they opened at 11:00am but were still greeted with a happy howdy and smile. Our server Lupe was top notch polite and friendly. The ambiance is old comfy cabin with the vibe of grandma cooking Sunday dinner in the kitchen.

Definitely a 3.5 less than 4. Solid to good fried chicken. Flavorful and juicy. The sides are run of the mill country sides. The biscuits are pretty darn good too. Price is fine for the amount of food you get. About $20 for half a chicken and all you can eat sides. It's no frills, simple menu. Service was attentive. Decor is a little tacky. It's a staple as I know a ton of people go here. Just go hungry to make it worth it.

My guess is this spot is popular and loved because of the decor that keeps you distracted while waiting for your food. Not a bad thing ofc, but I confess I find most of the signs either too esoteric or inconclusive to be amused by. Must be just me. The service here is kind, but nothing special. Your typical young folk staff who are polite but also seem a bit over being there. But we have never had bad service here. Now for the comfort food. I don't really taste anything signature in their fried chicken. It's standard, straightforward, and safe. There isn't some iconic seasoning that makes you nod your head at the person sitting next to you like "THIS is fried chicken." Humble ol' Chick Fil-A blows Babe's chicken outta the water. The potatoes, corn, and greens... yeah, it's just potatoes, corn, and greens. A little slushy in texture and not spruced up one iota. I will say I do like the hickory smoked chicken. It's the only food I've tried that has character.

    Does babes take reservations?

As far as I am aware of, No, they do not take reservations

How are they handling Covid now, a year into it? Not ready to get sick.

The TO GO service outside in the tent is great. You can call ahead or just hang out in the togo spots and they will bring everything out. Inside is free-for-all, no rules that I've seen. Scores of people in the waiting area and payments, sitting…

    Yes, it's BYOB.

We're in DALLAS and heard about this place. We have 3 adults and 2 kids, what would the approximate price be?

It's pricey at $14.99 a piece. Your choices would be fried chicken (6 pieces) grilled chicken (6 pieces), chicken tenders (lot of pieces), and chicken fried steak (1 large piece). This price includes sides. It's a family style setup. Babes is very…

Will you be open Dec 17-22? Have company coming in and like to bring them to Babe's! Thanks! Susan

At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

I expected to be able to sit down inside with my family and was pretty disappointed that the entire sitting area was blocked off and they're only allowing to go and take out orders. The soulful bowl with brisket was okay, the brisket wasn't super flavorful, the mac & cheese was a bit too salty and I had high hopes for the yams but they were pretty dry. The catfish and shrimp plate was also below expectations as the shrimp batter was falling off (not fried long enough) and the catfish was a bit fishy. Also I had to beg for cocktail and tartar sauce and got a little attitude when I asked for them. All around not the best experience and don't think I'll be making it back.
