I arrived at the Twisted Fork with an empty stomach and a biased perspective. You see, my senses have been assaulted with the rave reviews and glowing twitters for some time and while I find initial reviews to be fairly credible, find also that over the long term, they can create a momentum quite divorced from reality (eg.: Stepho's, Vij's, Sophies, Burgoo). Anyway, my girl and I arrived early on a rainy Sunday morning and got a seat by the window. My first biased observation was that the plush window seat was far more comfortable than the hard wooden stool at our table. But I was pleased to be seated with the place filling up quickly and we ordered drinks. The jovial waitress arrived with a massive glass of Tropicana grapefruit juice and a Brown Betty full of the Earl's greyest. I'm always impressed when the portions are generous which explains the euphoria I experienced when our meals arrived. I ordered the frittata (carmelized onions and bacon) and my girl the croque monsieur (with brioche). Sooo good, sooo much! I am always thrilled to have my biases rubbished and the Twisted Fork certainly did that. We will definitely revisit! FYI: if the TF is as impressive the second visit, it will get a fifth star for consistency read more

Solid 3 stars. Long wait for brunch (which would be fine if the food was well worth it....but it wasn't) Very close quarters, and the table we sat at was so small your plate was literally hanging halfway off the table. Food was good, but not great. Being a lover of eggs benedict, their version was nothing exciting (for $12). Service was good, but not great. I asked for extra jam with my banana bread, and it never came. = solid 3 stars. read more

I came here originally for the Tuesday mussel special for $10. The mussels come with fries. The dish looked good and smelled good, so I thought I would be getting a good deal. However, when I bit into one of the fries, they were rock hard. and my mouth was in pain for a few minutes with no feeling. When I called the water and politely explained what happened, she asked how many of the fries were hard, and I replied that I had just bitten into one. She returns a minute later with literally, one fry on a plate along with a bundle of attitude. Absolutely horrible service. Watch out for the hard fries! read more

Admittedly I have not been here but I was recommended and I want to keep this in my collections as a place to go. You can check on the website to see how long the approximate wait time at is. You can also go during the week because they only specialize in brunch and you probably won't have as long a wait. , Yale town near the YMCA? read more

This was a great find in Vancouver. The wait was to be expected for Friday brunch, so we walked down the street to get coffee. Too bad because they had a french press! We wished we would have waited. They send you a text when you table is ready which we loved! My boyfriend and I both got the baked eggs with gruyere. So good! It came with a small side of baked beans, sourdough toast (yum!) and house made jam, crispy hash browns, bacon, and a roasted tomato (OMG). Loved the plate of everything, with just the right serving sizes. They also had house made ketchup. I will say Vancouver seemed to be lacking in the brunch department in general, but this place for us was a diamond in the rough. read more

Went here with my mom on the 1st anniversary of the Van Olympics. Super soaker kind of a day, but there's a line up (as usual) so we had to wait. The ambiance and decor is very nice once we did get seated (waited for one seating, about 45 minutes, for a table for two!), and I think the plates are priced decently for the amount of food you get, and the quality. For some reason I felt like I was gonna get a different twist on the stale old brunch staples (eggs, bacon, benny, pancakes, etc.) because their menu looked and read different, but I guess at the end of the day, a frittata is a frittata, except TF's has melted brie, which you won't get from Denny's! :P The servers were very nice and attentive but not intrusive. might go back and try something else, if I ever have another 45 minutes to burn on a Saturday morning! read more

Best bang for your buck downtown: A three-course meal for $25 promptly served up by warm and friendly waitresses, all in a cozy, artsy setting. This blue-fence $25 special means that your ordering options are limited in terms of appys and entrees, but considering that entrees here are at least $20, you're in for a treat...especially if you save room for dessert. Do share the Chocolate Terrine and Caramel Napolean! Each course has a beautiful presentation and this place makes it great for dates but it's also a cool place to hang out...especially with Tuesday's $8 mussels special. The drink list is very interesting: none of your usual pops, they offer their own blend of unique, non-alcoholic drinks. My fave is the Prohibition Punch, with apple juice, ginger ale, and other nice things. Haven't tried the brunch menu that everyone here is raving about, but their Blue Fence and Mussels specials are always a home run. I especially love this place during late weekday nights when it isn't so packed and I could chill with friends and/or my boyfriend. A bit cramped when it's busy-- like most downtown haunts -- but they do it in style. read more

I came very early to meet a friend post 4/20 (nobody was awake), it was pretty quiet as I waited for my friend, they brought me very good, strong coffee. After 10 it started getting crowded, we had a nice brunch while we talked and the busy morning unfolded around us. The atmosphere is art-house with fun menus featuring the stated twisted fork. I had the Banana stuffed brioche French Toast sprinkled with cinnamon icing sugar, topped with vanilla whipped cream. The service sizes were huge but I managed to eat it all and didn't have to eat the rest of the day, no munchies! read more

Thursday night, crowded but not packed. Nothing wrong with this restaurant, I just didn't feel blown away by their food. It is two weeks later and I'm having a really hard time remember what I ate at all. We ordered 1 prix fixe meal ($28), and two appetizers. It was just the right amount of food for us. We tried: snails - not what I expected. Don't expect the really flavorful garlic escargot like I did. They seemed steamed, with watercress. So taste is very minimal in this dish. I would skip. Mussels - standard Beef - stew like. I didn't have this dish but I can tell you the carrots were good. Pear tartin dessert - this was my favorite dish out of everything I had. must try! read more

4.5 stars. I had time to wait this past weekend for a nice brunch with a friend. I can see why there's always a line-up here on weekends! All brunch items are $11 and portions are huge. Add a lovely french press coffee or juice for $3 and you're set until dinner! I had a hard time deciding but picked a smoked salmon benny. YUMMY! Neat twist that they serve it on bread/brioche rather than the usual english muffin. Beautifully poached egg with a runny centre, hollandaise sauce and nice bread underneath. Loved the hash brown too. The beans were an interesting touch - not my style for brunch, but still tasty. Service is pretty fast and basic once you're at the table. Can't wait to come back and try more brunch items! Dinner sounds interesting too from the reviews here. FYI, no Amex here. read more

Great brunch spot in a city that seems to be sorely lacking brunch spots. Came here on a Saturday, and thankfully we showed up before 10am when it opened as there was already people waiting outside. We got a table for the two of us, but the seats all filled up pretty quick. We had a seat near the door, and got to see all the people wandering in being told they could be put on the wait list. The guy working the front of house was so friendly, and so helpful! He mentioned to everyone that in Vancouver if you want a good breakfast, you have to show up before the place opens and lineup. Who knew this to be the case? But I experienced it again the next day on my trip so it's true. Anyways, the front of house guy kept recommending good breakfast places to people nearby that opened at 11. So that they could hopefully jet over there and get in as they opened. On top of that, he let my girlfriend snatch the crossword from their paper. On top of the service being pretty fantastic. The food was pretty fantastic too. The asiago scones, with cream cheese spread and watermelon jelly was one of the best things I ate on this trip to Vancouver. I highly recommend them. I also had the chorizo frittata, which also contained brie and an assortment of things. On the side was some corn relish, and a side salad. It was big and filling. The chorizo gave it a nice smokey flavour. And the corn relish and salad was key to cut through the creaminess of the brie. My girlfriend had the eggs benny with turkey sausage. The rosti that came with the eggs benny was top notch. The baked beans were definitely made in house as the beans had a bit of a tooth to them, and the beans tasted very fresh and tomatoy. The beans tasted great when you mixed them with other things. More like a condiment. Not as well straight up. I liked that there was a lot of different filling options for the eggs benny. I had a really great brunch experience here, and I would totally go back if I could. read more

Twisted Fork - French Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

This Granville restaurant offers a great foodie experience at Brunch time, in an area of Vancouver that typically doesn't offer uncommon tastes. Our service during my only visit was fun, engaging and helpful. Be prepared to walk around, as the restaurant is not large and guests often have to wait quite a bit to get seated. I didn't find the food too expensive or out of the $10-$15 usual for meals during this time of day. Certainly looking forward to another visit to Twisted Fork! read more

Fantastic! The staff were wonderful and made us laugh (not in an annoying dorky way either). We shared a bottle of wine and the scallops and I had the halibut and my friend had the crepes. Everything was delicious and comforting and I can see myself heading back again and again. read more

We had brunch here a couple of weeks ago, when we first arrived in Vancouver. We were sucked in by the tasty looking menu and the $11-for-everything price. Turned out to be a good decision! Having eaten a lot of junk over the previous few days, I opted for the fruit salad and asiago scones. Matt ordered the eggs benny. The food arrived within about 15 minutes and oh. my. god. OK, so it's hard to rant about a fruit salad, but this was some seriously good fruit. Strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew melon and orange with fresh mint and yogurt. The asiago scones were obviously very freshly baked, and were fantastic with the whipped butter and jam. The eggs benny were next level. A huge breakfast with plenty of bacon and good hollondaise, Matt proclaimed this to be the best eggs benny he's ever had (and he's had a lot). Service was also fantastic - the waitress was attentive and a bit flirty, but not overbearing. Definitely our new favourite brunch spot. Very keen to go back and try the dinner menu one night. read more

Love this place! Unbelievably good brunch, particularly the bennies and the French Toast. The halibut and duck are great at dinner, and the mussels are also worthwhile. Tons of homemade little items like their jams and canned beets and green beans. Fresh baked bread rolls too. Service is always very attentive and friendly. read more

Don't you just love places where the waitresses are genuine, grounded individuals who enjoy their job and and have the job cause they are bloody good at it? (cactus club take note) This place was a treat and so relaxing with a nice atmosphere and good folk. I love how they just have a few BC wines on their menu, nice touch. House pickled goodies at the back you can buy. You can tell this place is a much loved personal place for someone very lucky! A great place to start your day with a tasty brunch. The unassuming interior first seems as a negative but the wonderful taste of the foods served more then overwhelms the experience. I got the scrambled eggs and the portion size was on the large side. We also got the frittata and it looked like a small omelette. By the way, they don't serve omelettes. The coffee was served in French press style and it passed our quality check. Overall a great place. Definitely suggest checking out. read more

Twisted Fork - Interior of the restaurant. Plenty of rooms yet maybe difficult to find seat. - French Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

You'd better get to this restaurant before the world finds out about it. This bistro is owned by a brother and sister and they have one hell of a great team. The food is rich and delicious, certainly a French touch to the ingredients. Service second to none and they know their wine list. Speaking of wine, wow, its fairly priced with special "bottle" prices on Monday's and if you enjoy Scotch, they have a complete list, also fairly priced. The establishment is not large, thus no reservations and they open at 6PM daily. Don't get fussed about the area, its a little gritty, however, the area is being cleaned up and the Downtown Ambassadors, (in Red outfits) are there to assist. I will go back to this gem and so should you. read more

Twisted Fork - $9 muscles on Tuesday's! - French Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

A crooked fork held the menu. Each menu item was the same cost of $14. Portions were big as the moon. French toast was a foodies heaven. Friends who had the bennies and asparagus scrambled eggs were equally happy. The baked eggs were apparently a little dry as indicated in the menu. The chatty co-owner was lovely and there was a wait but he took the cell number and texted us when a table was ready. Forkin' brilliant. Overall a yummy and large choice. Roll me back home. I would totally recommend it. Though as a non egg eater my choices were somewhat limited, French toast stuffed with banana will be something I will dream about just like the cow that jumped over the moon and the twisted fork that ran away with the spoon. read more

The word is definitely out about brunch here! It's great to have a menu where nothing is over $11 and the portions are HUGE Super friendly, down to earth waitress and relatively quick service considering how busy they are. Ordered the croque monsier which comes with tons of ham and gruyere on brioche. Also came served with a side of salad. I really recommend the asiago scones. You get two small scones for $3 and though you can't really taste the asiago, they are really damn tasty and well-done. Be prepared to wait for a table! read more

This is a cute little place with not too much seating. I came with a few girl friends and ordered a couple of dishes to share. For starters we had the steamed mussels, snails, onion tart, and duck confit. The steamed mussels were my favorite and came with an amazing sauce which I kept on dipping my dinner roll into. Then we ordered the Char, Beef Bouguinon, and Lamb to share. The Char was soooo good.. I normally don't like fish, but even I thought it was amazing, I definitely recommend! The Beef Bouguinon was pretty good too... after watching the Julia Child movie, I always end up ordering this at French restaurants. It came with succulent pieces of beef and a rich stew/sauce. The lamb dish was alright, i am not a big fan of lamb so i didn't have too much of that. Apparently they serve really good desserts and brunches here, and if I am ever in the area on weekend or late a night, I will defiantly come back to try it out. read more

I walked 1.5km to try Twisted Fork because it's a beautiful city to walk around in and I wanted some really good brunch! The place is a smaller hipster cafe type place, and the service is good although I thought the food did not live up to the hype. I ordered an egg benedict dish that came with some spinach, however the spinach seemed like it was from frozen. Overall the dish was okay, but nothing extraordinary. I had the dish with a regular cup of tea, where no sugar or cream was offered. I went on a weekday so there was no wait for the breakfast. Overall it was alright, but it just did not live up to the expectations that I had. Vancouver is known for it's great restaurants and so I'm not sure I would give the Twisted Fork another chance. read more

Out of towners looking for a brunch spot. We found this place while walking the downtown. It was very close to where we were staying. The reviews showed 4 stars overall but I beg to differ. We were three that ordered two plates to share; the scrambled eggs with wild mushroom and the poached eggs with chorizo . Both dishes came with thick slices of buttered bread and home made jam. I'd have to say that the house confiture and ketchup were the only highlights. The food overall was a bit underwhelming and mediocre. The scrambled eggs were not fluffy nor tasty, with just a few slivers of wild mushroom. Rather disappointing and bland. Service was nice but it was just too slow. We waited over 35 mins ( after glancing at the watch) for our food to come and it wasn't even hot. The place is somewhat cute, however, for brunch it was way too dark and a bit drab. read more

Liked the staff, creativity and crazy portion of this place. Not sure if it's fair for all breakfast to be priced the same. Coffee are French pressed, everything is fresh or homemade down to the ketchup. Taste was alright, nothing out of this world. read more

Twisted Fork has all of the ingredients for a perfect brunch spot. Mouthwatering entree options (you'll really have trouble deciding... everything sounds AMAZING), a wonderful atmosphere, and friendly wait staff. Even before the place opens at 10 a.m., there's a line out the door. I arrived right at 10, not knowing there would be so many people there, and I ended up being 6th on the wait list. I got seated around 11 a.m. I had a bunch of savory eats planned for the rest of the day, so for brunch, I opted for something sweet: their popular banana stuffed brioche French toast with cinnamon icing sugar, vanilla whipped cream, and some fresh fruit. All of their entrees cost $13.50 including tax. There are only two cooks in the kitchen, but the food is definitely worth the wait. My French toast came out piping hot; so hot, in fact, that the stuffed bananas almost burned the roof of my mouth. The texture of the French toast was perfect, and I really liked the fact that the dish wasn't overly sweet. Paired with a pot of fresh French press coffee ($4 including tax), it was the best way to start my Sunday. I also really liked the atmosphere here. Obviously, it's very crowded and can get pretty loud, but at the same time, it felt really cozy. Loved the dark red walls and the wood ceiling. It's definitely a place I could see myself going to very regularly to catch up with friends if I lived in Vancouver. Nevertheless, in my books, Twisted Fork hasn't toppled Chicago's M. Henry for my personal favorite brunch spot. I'll say it's the second best brunch experience I've had. I'm definitely a big a fan of Twisted Fork, though, and will return the next time I'm in Vancouver! read more

I am still craving their Beef Bourguignon. All the time. No, like, all the time. I went on a day when it wasn't very crowded--I'm not sure if it usually is. We sat at the bar, had some cool, neat drinks, and then were seated. Everything that we got was amazing. Like I mentioned, the Beef Bourguignon is to die for. It was a cool wintery day outside, and the dish was warm, falvorful...just basically the best thing in the world. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the flavor of the wine was so delicate and not overpowering at all in the dish. I can't stress how much I miss those 30 minutes of heaven. The decor is super cool. The menu has a..well, a twisted fork on it (how they did that, I don't know). It's slightly dim-lit with a very home-y comfortable atmosphere. Service was fine, and we felt comfortable ordering whatever. No pressure, no judgment. It's super pricey yes, but it's SO amazing. Please go. I didn't have the room for dessert at all, but if you do, please. For me. read more

We had the Eggs Benny and the Banana Stuffed French Toast. We also ordered 1 hot tea. The tea was served in a teapot along with a mug. The mug was wet inside, containing about a teaspoon or two of water. I poured the water out and wiped the inside of the mug with my napkin and noticed all this brown crap coming off. It obviously wasn't washed very well. So after a bit of effort, I got the waiter's attention and requested a new mug, pointing out that the one they gave us was dirty. He took a look inside, and said that the residue is tea residue, in a tone as if we were idiots. I was totally speechless. Like duh, of course it's from tea. That doesn't make it clean! If they're so sloppy that they can't clean tea residue, who knows what else is left over on that mug! Maybe someone else's lipstick or saliva residue? Gross. The waiter brought us a new mug, and that was that. No apology was given, as if one wasn't needed. I was tempted to ask him if he felt that it was acceptable to serve people with dishware that's dirty with leftover food grime, but after taking a deep breath, I realized that doing so wasn't worth it. Our Eggs Benny and French Toast arrived, and without going into detail, they were okay. Nothing particularly memorable, certainly not something worth waiting in line for. The French Toast gets 3 stars, the Eggs Benny gets 2, the snarky waiter who acted like I had a problem for wanting a clean mug drops the entire rating to 1 star. A simple apology for the grimy mug would've went a long way. read more

Ordered these items a number of times: Croque Monsieur with brioche, gruyere, cheddar and ham served with fresh greens and house tomato sauce (its okay, its hefty, fulfilling, but I did feel regretful every time) asiago scones (these are pretty good, especially when they serve it with their jams, they have seasonal spiced ones that are delicious) coffee (bottomless french press) (decent coffee and they do have almond milk, yay OH and yay for bottomless) bathrooms (clean bathroom is a plus, especially in a dirtier part of town) Wasn't the best, but wasn't the most horrible brunch. Sometimes there isn't a line, but most of the time there is, and I wouldn't say the line is worth it. Its great when you're not that hungry and have time to kill, the area is pretty depressing. Definitely not a good place to go for a healthy brunch or something incredibly new and refreshing. Good for last minute brunching. Its a small restaurant, kinda fun vibe, but usually busy. read more

I seem to have an extraordinarily bad habit around starting Yelp reviews, and then never finishing them; when I first found the Twisted Fork I was describing it as "Tucked away in a stretch of Granville that's still in the middle of redevelopment, the Twisted Fork is a real brunch find." Can't remember the details, save that every dish we ordered was scrumptious, and the french press coffee was a real treat. Vancouver has since had its Olympics, so Granville street is generally a bit more redeveloped and a bit less sketchy at this point. I was happy to see the TF still alive and kicking when I walked by a few weeks ago, and though I didn't have time to drop in for dinner I still so fondly remember the brunch menu that I want to add my positive vote to the chorus. From the food itself through to the atmosphere (the twisted fork motif carries through from the large gnarled wooden fork over the door to the menus), the varied and excellent music selection, and the friendly staff, I wish I'd had the opportunity to return sooner, but maybe if I start plotting now I can check out dinner in the near future... read more
