For my short time there it was perfectly fine. I had noticed the sign a couple years ago and made a note to try it so got there last nite with my dive bar friend. No weird looks, just white dudes hanging out and lots of TVs with Fox News on. They don't serve food anymore for better or worse. Corona and Sam Adams bottles were $5 so not crazy cheap. Bigger than I expected but the other room was dead. It could be a cool hang but a bit out of the way for me and I'm not a big beer person. Glad I went. read more

How Irish is this Place? If your looking to hit up a spot and get cheap booze with clientele sporting extra thick Irish accents, this is the place for you. More F bombs being dropped than the Wolf of Wall St. For some reason, which I can't quantify, it all seems to work. AVOID this place! Completely racist and absolutely no respect for social distance or concerns over COVID. Let me just start by saying that I'm from Boston and I'm accustomed to these old Irish style pubs that seemed to have existed since the stone ages. And that's exactly what you can expect at this place. It's the typical dank, worn out looking atmosphere, food tastes like froze food purchased at 7-11 and even worse customer service... but that's all to be expected. But one night, with my preferred restaurants closed, I tried this place in a jam. And what SURPRISED me is that the bartender (and owner I think?) rejected my take out order because I was covering my face with a scarf instead of a mask. Which is totally fine... I stared to walk out to grab my mask in my car when I noticed that literally NOT A SINGLE person (including the bartender) were wearing masks. When I asked why, he told me that it's because they were seated (which they were not). When I asked if I could just sit down with my scarf covering and then remove it then like everyone else, I was laughed at by the bartender and the friends that he was serving, sworn at, throw out and the doors were locked to prevent me from coming back inside with an acceptable mask. There were no arguments nor did I raise my voice so the entire experience was extremely confusing and felt very uncomfortable as I was the only person of color in the entire place and had been tested significantly different than everyone else I was surrounded by. I'd NEVER go back to this place and I strongly suggest that you avoid at all costs. read more

Nice hideaway place if you don't mind a bunch of men yacking. The bar vibe is pretty rough, but people do keep to themselves. Unfortunately, the kitchen is closed until the 26th of June, but you can go two stores down to get food and bring it back inside the bar. For the fact this is my type of bar makes it easy for me to review it. I love finding bars like this in my travels. And this one is good if you're a day drinker. I had the fish and it was great. It was crispy, flaky, and fresh. I'm not a fan of tartar sauce but theirs is great. Also Mike is awesome. Always keeping it moving. Pleasant in his interactions and engaging. Just moved to the area the bartenders are really friendly and the prices are fantastic. If your looking to watch sports there's not a bad seat in the place. You can always see at least 2 tvs. Definitely a local spot hope to see it last through dorchesters transformation. read more

First things first. This bar is one of those local bars that if you don't know somebody thats a regular there or that works there you will get those evil glares from all over. But if you're ok with that then carry on. I've been to Twelve Ben's a few times and I've never been disappointed. The menu is definitely a working class value. I got the Steak Dinner for $10 ( Which is the most expensive meal on the menu). For that $10 you get a steak that was probably around 14oz. I'm a old school fella so I went with Corn and Mashed Potatoes as well and man do they load that plate up. There was like 2 Pounds of food on my plate it was an INSANE value. My buddy that I was with got the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad and he said that it was the best he's ever had. Twelve Ben's is definitely a hidden gem and now I feel dirty about telling you all. I live right down the street from Twelve Bens, so when my roommate feels like watching the game (any game, it doesn't matter) and wants some company, that's where we go. Every time we've been it's been pretty quiet and the only other patrons have been old Irish men. I have yet to see another woman in this bar. If my roommate weren't an old Irish man in the making, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel in here. But overall the drinks are cheap and it's a nice quiet place to relax and watch whatever Boston sports team happens to be playing on a Thursday night. read more

The Bens is a hidden gem in the city. The cast of characters are warm and welcoming ( in a cold way) and the food is amazing. You can't go wrong here as long as you are respectful. If you enjoy sports, there is enough tv's to keep your interest. They may even let you talk politics! read more

Cheapest beer in town, ice cold. cash only. A great local joint where everyone shows respect or you will get your ass kicked. Lots of professionals stop here on the way home. A man's place but the ladies come here often, too. Lots of Irish locals. Lived around the corner from this place years ago. Saw a sign on the wall for $3.99 fish and chips and decided to check it out. The "fish" was two Mrs. Paul's fish patties on steak fries. The pint of Guinness in 1997 cost $4. I can only imagine what they want for one now, since I haven't been back since then. Local Irish (from Ireland, not American irish) have told me it's a "Connamara" bar, whatever that means. Wouldn't recommend the place. read more

I am OFD, and this place is what Dot is all about. OLD SCHOOL, BLUE COLLAR, LUNCH PAIL. the steaks are awesome. I go to Abe & Louies and that's a nice nite out. However I watch a Pats/Sox game get in gear and go to the Bens to just be loose. Food, staff, value...GREAT! Went to the B's parade and i could think of no place other than the Bens that I would want to grab a cold one and a nice steak!! Trust me no glitz or glam. But that's the Dot, Irish Catholic way.
