Great addition to the Austin bubble tea scene! The menu is pretty extensive and they have so many fruit tea options. They also have the traditional milk tea drinks and tons of toppings to choose from. I got the grapefruit green tea and it's the best I've had in Austin. The drink is half tea, half slush and sooooo refreshing. The green tea balances with the grapefruit perfectly. The drink is a little on the sweet side and I would recommend reducing the sugar level (like 50%). My sister got taro milk tea and there were chunks of real taro in the drink which was delicious! I also tried the oolong milk tea with amber pearls. The tea was was a good strength and the bubbles were sweet and nice and chewy. The shop felt pretty minimalistic and modern with white walls and tables and colorful chairs. There were plenty of tables and this would be a good study spot after COVID blows over. I squeaked in during the last hour of their grand opening special and they had run out of milk, so my initial choice (milk tea) and second choice (yogurt slush) were a no-go. I ended up getting a peach oolong tea with coconut jelly instead, and I was blown away! The tea wasn't too sweet (I got 50% sweet) and was full of fresh peach flavor. The slices of fruit inside the drink not only looked pretty but added a pleasant bitterness that balanced the sweetness. I usually get tapioca, but the coconut jelly was a better match. If the location was closer to me, I'd be here all the time! They have some unique mix-ins like purple rice and crystal pearls, but what impressed me the most was how good the base tea is. The jasmine tea in their "double purple" drink is so fragrant that it was really hard not to just down the drink in a few seconds. Terrible drinks and they had the worst service I've ever experienced and terrible drinks the barista cut me off and kept saying "is that all" before I finished my order, and didn't ask me about the ice level or sugar level or if I wanted milk foam on our second drink. I am a complete passionfruit addict and it's amazingly difficult to find a place that doesn't just use passionfruit syrup. While Tsaocaa's passionfruit and lime green tea doesn't use fresh passionfruit, it does use a passionfruit jam which means there's the delightful pop of passionfruit seeds + you can add in their boba which is perfectly chewy and sweet. I also appreciated that this is one place where the tea isn't overly sweetened to start so when you request 30% sugar you actually end up with tea that is lightly sweetened. I also love the takeout lids with an actual cap. The drinks here tend to be a little pricier than other boba places, but the quality is also better than the typical standard chains. It's a very cute whimsical interior with a decent amount of seating. There's also ample parking. read more

I had very high hopes for this boba shop. I would definitely recommend the fruit tea menu items - they taste fresh, not artificial/syrupy. Even at 50% sweetness, the fruit teas were plenty sweet. There are some other decent drink places in town but Tsaocaa manages to nail the tea, milk foam, and the ratio of everything in a way that other local places can't. The quality of drinks here is on par with the good places in NYC and the Bay. Our favorite drinks are the King of Oolong / Jasmine Green Tea with the cheese foam. The tea flavor is strong and fragrant without being bitter, and the cheese foam is creamy. They put in the right amount of foam to make the tea creamy and smooth while still getting the tea flavor. We like to get the drinks with 50% sugar and low ice although the jasmine tea is fine with 75% sugar too. The Colorful Fruit Black Tea is a nice refreshing drink in the summer but nowhere close to YiFang's original fruit tea which is still my gold standard. My boba-loving friend got another milk tea, I forget what the flavor was, but she also was not a fan of hers, also said it was diluted. Have been on a quest for "salty cheese" tea drinks here in Texas (yes, I am a California transplant). Happy to report that we not only found them, but they are even BETTER than the version we used to get at Happy Lemon in Pleasant Hill, California. If you think it sounds weird, it does sound weird (salty what!?) but they are amazeballs. A think, creamy, slightly-salty dense whipped topping on black tea (or other base drink). AND their macrons are fresh, slightly chewy, slightly crunchy and delicious. It's feeling more like home already! read more
