We had a great dinner here last night. The noise level seemed genuinely improved from our earlier visit, which was a nice surprise. Also, the menu had been updated and had a lot of appealing choices. A standout was the brussels sprout appetizer, which came to the table piping hot and featured a nice level of spice and perfectly cooked sprouts. We're not big beer drinkers, so I can't comment on the main event, but we had a glass of a nice Malbec. Our waitress was attentive, efficient, and extremely pleasant. Looking forward to more visits to True West--especially excited to try their trivia night on a Monday night soon (would love to know if registration in advance is necessary). read more

We went in to the new Speakeasy Saturday night. Lexi not only made great drinks, she handled the table service as well. The atmosphere was really cool. Music going, funky furniture just an overall great vibe. We had apps, wings and tots and they were delicious. We had 5 guests and we all enjoyed our dinners too. The service was great. We look forward to going again. Holding a private event there would be fun, such a great space. read more

I have been to True West about five times and have recommended it to lots of people based on the positive experiences I have generally had. I would give them 3 stars plus based on my past experience, but this experience was a one star. Lunch was definitely a disappointment. It was my wife's and my anniversary and our daughter's birthday. We drove by other lunch options to go to True West based on our past experiences. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny day and the ambiance was very pleasant. We ordered drinks to start and it took about 15 minutes for them to arrive in a nearly empty restaurant. Once the drinks arrived, and I had sipped my beer a couple of times, I noticed that my glass had a huge crack across most of the side that was facing away from me. Thankfully it didn't break in my hand or my mouth. Once I was finally able to get the server's attention, she apologized and went to get a replacement. The replacement arrived after about a 10 minute wait. When I sipped the new beer I realized that they had used a glass that had sanitizer remaining in it. Two strikes. When the two burgers for the kids and the salmon burgers for my wife and I arrived we realized that they had added and charged us $3 for a salad when the salmon burger already comes with greens on the side if you opt out of fries. The kid's burgers were ordered medium and both were delivered grey and very well done. The salmon was cooked well and tasted great. When the bill came, we also realized that we were charged $5 for lemonades for the kids when the kid's menu clearly states that lemonade is a $.50 charge for each tiny cup. Strike 4. They did remove the beer from the bill since I never received one that was drinkable. The server made sure to bring me both bills, I'm assuming so she would get tipped on the full amount. The server also had to make a point of telling me that the beer I was drinking was a sour and that I may not be familiar with the flavor versus sanitizer being in it. I know beer very well, had already drank part of another of the same beer (in a broken glass) and it was sanitizer. When my wife expressed all of the issues to the "person in charge" she said they would adjust the bill to remove the overcharges. My wife made it clear that the whole experience had failed from kitchen to bar -- and there was no further offer to do anything other than "I hope you come back". It was very apparent that their was no "adult supervision" in the restaurant and no one trained well enough or empowered enough to deliver any degree of appropriate customer service. If I'm going to pay $80 for a lunch for two kids and two adults, I expect someone to care about the experience I'm having. Based on this experience, I will stick to better options closer to home and will not return to True West or give any more gift cards as gifts to recommend the place. One last thing. The fact that I had to walk into the bar or download an app to my phone to see the beer list is an interesting concept, but annoying. I shouldn't need to give Untappd web traffic to see a beer list. read more

What a great spot! Fun atmosphere, tasty brews, good food and friendly service...what more could you want from a brew pub!? Try the wings and ANY of the flatbreads and don't miss out on the 'flight' of beers so that you get a taste of several before diving deeper on your favorite! Still new, and from the sounds of other reviews, still working out a few kinks, but well worth a visit. We're already looking forward to our next one...Thanks! read more

I'm a return customer and went in on Thursday 12/20 right towards the end of lunch service; everyone had sat down at once and the server Olivia was busy. So the bartender came over and grabbed our drink order. Olivia delivered the drinks and her service was impeccable from start to finish. She was polite, kind and despite how busy it was completely on top of everything! From little details to bringing a steak knife without asking to just being courteous and fun throughout. The food and beer was excellent as always! However, she really made the experience overall enjoyable! read more

This was my first time at True West and it was amazing. We had fabulous service and delicious food. The menu is diverse in selection and the food is impeccably seasoned so the flavors blend well with the overall dish. Their beer is top rated and I see why. The decor is cool, edgy and feels very urban. The entire experience was superb in every way. read more

As others have said, the food is adequate. Just that. They need a food leader to bring the kitchen up to the level of the bar. But the beer is great. I go for growler fills even when the place is mobbed and the bar takes care of me on the spot. My ratio at the moment is roughly 3 growler stops for every dine-in visit. Which is fine. For food, go during off-peak hours and get a table right away when the place isn't crazy busy and loud. I haven't tried all their brews yet, so my next trip will be for a beer flight. Then more growler action. My favorite thing about this place: in addition to their own beers, they have a bottled beer list which includes some intriguing offerings. But the real attention getter is: Genesee Cream Ale! In cans no less! These folks aren't fussy cork sniffers. They know a good thing when they taste it. Even if it's dirt cheap regional slosh with a cult following. I admire them for making room for Genny under the tent. That was not something they had to do. They did it because they know. They're keeping it real. read more

The beer here improved this year. Wasn't a fan but picked up some recently at Acton Village. Need to try some others. New brewer seems to be the difference read more

We really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, we waited over 30 minutes for food that was subpar. The waitress was lovely, the beer and cider were good, and the atmosphere is interesting (sitting at a community table), but the veggie tacos were made of mushrooms only. No veggies. We left feeling hungry. They did comp our drinks. read more

First off, this place is painfully loud! Like fricking way too loud. We had the brown ale and the saison, both of which were excellent. For an appetizer, we had the dry rub wings which were alos top notch. Parking was easy, the wait for a seat at the bar was only 10 min But the noise! This place needs some serious sound panels. Or maybe they can hand out ear plugs at the door. It was awful! Edit: We will definitely come back in a few weeks. You are just what this area needed. I'll edit my review if the noise level comes down. read more

We gave this place a few weeks after opening to work out the inevitable kinks. Service had a few quirks (including that they brought all our food at pretty much the same time) but pretty good considering, Food we had was generally pretty good. It is though, one of those places so common lately with a menu that looks interesting and varied at first glance, but tries a little too hard to be trendy or unique while missing some basic things. Sometimes that can make it hard to find something you actually want to order, even when the menu appears fairly extensive. Especially true in my case, as I don't eat meat and that doesn't look like something that was considered in developing the menu. No opinion on the beer itself, we don't drink beer. As someone who doesn't like the taste of beer, it's sort of bothersome that so many things on the menu have some beer-related ingredient, and I kept wondering if things would taste like beer. (Yeah, so I was trying to avoid meat AND beer at a microbrewery. I know.) Agree with a review I saw that mentioned the wines - why not list what you have? Put it on the back of the little paper that listed some of the beers, it was blank anyway. I had to ask if they had wine, and the server rattled them off, messing up several times even if something was white or red, and no labels just type. (What I ordered was just ok.) I wasn't even aware they had a full liquor license until I wandered over to see what was on the blackboard by the bar and there were some cocktails listed below the beers. I know it's a beer-focused place, but they could pay a little more attention to the the rest of the bar service without taking away from the beer. The noise is horrendous. You can't hear your waiter, they can't hear you, you can't have a conversation. The person stationed by the door had to go outside to use her phone. I think the demand around here for any kind of decent restaurant is high so people will cut them some slack. It was certainly busy. We'll probably try it again at some point, if the menu changes some. And we'll try it later, because earlier there were LOTS of little kids and with the lack of any sound deadening that possibly made the noise situation even worse. Did I mention it was LOUD? This is the main thing that would stop us from going back. It's painful. I don't know if they designed the place to be as loud as possible, or just didn't think about it at all. read more

Three of us visited last night at about 7:15 for dinner. I was looking forward to the visit, but left disappointed. On the plus side, the food, drink and service are good. My build your own burger with no add-ons was nicely done, and my dining companions' salad and fish tacos were worthwhile. I tried two house ales, the Charleville and Issac, and liked them. The desserts were excellent. Although our order took a while to arrive, our server was attentive, kept us posted on our order's progress, and made sure that all of our other needs were taken care of during the wait. However, the dining experience left a lot to be desired. I had been warned the place is loud, but still wasn't prepared for the volume. When told there would be a 45 to 60 minute wait, I suggested leaving, since I didn't like the idea of standing around that long in a loud environment. Standing is required, since the waiting area is a bench that seats three. We could also have gone outside and waited for a text, but there's nowhere to go in West Acton after 5 PM except True West. The rest of the party prevailed, and we ended up being seated in about 20 minutes. During dinner the noise required raised voices and a lot of attention to maintain our conversation. Noisy standing room only venues were fun in my twenties, but not now. One of my companions wanted wine, and True West serves it, but there is no printed wine list. The waitress had to go back to check types and prices before wine could be ordered. That was a waste of everyone's time. Overall, the meal was not worth the visit. Acton needs more restaurants and nightlife, but there are two similar places in town already. If I want craft beer and a burger, I can go elsewhere, enjoy a meal at least as good as this one, and relax instead of shout. If I want craft beer alone, there are even more choices. Having the beer brewed within sight of my table does not magically make it the best. I'll be back to try again, but not until I know that the noise problem has been addressed. read more

Beer great!! Food I got burger med rare, it was well done!! Food was so late to come. Waitress apologized for long wait! It was Saturday but not crazy busy. Gotta work on the appatetizer and dinner spacing. read more

The atmosphere speaks volumes about the service. Concrete, cold, and completely uninviting. The wait staff was overwhelmed, even though it wasn't that busy. We waited 40 minutes for our hamburgers, only for them to be ice cold. After complaining, the waitress took them back, and we waited another half-hour for their return......At that point, we had lost our appetite. Although the waitress was very apologetic, and kind, I was extremely disappointed that the owner himself didn't even address the issue. I was so looking forward to this new addition to our community, but unfortunately, it was a huge let down, and I will never return again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more

Two for Two.....I went in with some work colleagues and everything was great! We are 4 just back from a late and impromptu late lunch. Beer and Margarita were very good......but the food was less than satisfactory. Two Rubens.....both over-cooked any dry. Skimpy on the sauce.....house cut fries tasted like yesterday's ....WAY OVER DONE. The burger had an odd texture....and the spices were not good to my taste. Again, the fries were way over cooked. The Mac and cheese was decent, although served cool rather than hot. On a hot day like today, it worked. We were all very disappointed......have been waiting for the bugs to be worked through until we visited. But they have a ways to go.....???????doubtful on a return. read more

We've been there at least ten times (not so many breweries in the area), and the food was always ok-ish, same as the beer. The master brewer, a nice guy, acknowledged some beers could improve, as they had a head retention problem. The chairs can't be more uncomfortable but we would have been back if it wasn't for the service. It was always clearly improvable, but the last time we were there I accidentally spilled part of my drink. The guy who looked like the manager came to clean it with a sour face, didn't even look at me and neither did he offer me a napkin to dry my clothes... I felt terrible! read more

True West has grown up. My boyfriend lives nearby and we can walk to True West so we've been going from the beginning. We've probably had dinner there 6-7 times. It's also a great place to watch a game. We ate there on Saturday night and were seated on the outside patio right away. I had a Ruckus! which is one of my my favorite beers, quite refreshing. We shared a garden salad which was a good size. He had the scallops with pea risotto which was a delicious dish. They were generous on the scallops which he was very happy to see. I had the fish tacos and the fish was such a large portion, I was impressed. They were excellent. They somewhat recently installed sound absorbing panels which has quieted down the restaurant (great move!!!). Service was ok which is why I'm giving them 4 instead of 5 stars. read more

I've been here 3 times now and had issues with the food twice. All three visits, the service was very slow and waited at least 15 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us. When we informed them of the food issues which we didn't even touch, they apologized but left it on the bill anyway. We paid for it since we didnt want to make a big deal out of it but we won't be back unfortunately. read more

I sooooo want to like this place! It is less than 5 minutes from my house, is adorable inside and out, has great beer and great service, but we are consistently disappointed by the food. We went when it first opened, then tried again a few months later, and tried again last week. The "crispy" Brussels sprouts were 100% soggy (seemed like they were steamed- Literally zero crisp and totally undercooked), though the sauce they were served in was excellent. The veggie burger looks great, and the bun was very tasty and the veggies fresh, but the patty itself almost completely void of any flavor at all. Finally, the veggie taco flight was supposed to come with crispy shallots, and there weren't any at all. Sigh. This place could be so good, but out of everything we ordered the only good thing was the fries- they were delicious! Our server was really sweet and tried to help, but something is just still wrong with the kitchen. Bummer. read more

We met friends last night at True West. One of our friends got there a half an hour before we all did to put her name in for our party of six. When we did all arrived the hostess didn't have a table for us because she never put our friends name on the waiting list! We did find a table outside so when we all tried to sit down one of the servers yelled at us and told us we couldn't have the table? Well, we did end up at the table and with the same cranky server. She was rude, never smiled and treated us like we were a bother to her. We waited a long time for our drinks, she was not happy taking our dinner order and it took so LONG TO GET OUR MEAL and in the meantime our server never came back to check on us or see if anyone wanted another drink! The only reason I'm giving two stars is for the sweetest hostess named Julia who did help at our table dropping food off, giving us plates and extra silverware. I'm sorry to say I won't be running back to True West anytime soon. read more

Always a great selection of beer! Food is very good that complements the beer selection. Great lunch spot.

AMAZING tater tots. Out of this world. Also, the burgers are delicious. Once when we went, the service took an hour and a half but they gave us everything for FREE. And they gave us extra tater tots. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. It's also a dog friendly restaurant:) would def recommend trying True West! you won't regret it read more

The wait for a table was long for a Saturday night which is expected. The wait for the food was even longer. I ordered house burger and a beer. The burger was an inch thick and cooked to perfection. We also ordered tater tots which were mildly spiced and absolute was fantastic. The only issue here was the long wait and a draft that I felt the entire night being here. Possibly, the draft was coming from the brewery door which was open the entire night. Should keep the brewery door closed. Maybe get more cooks in the kitchen to speed up the cooking a bit. Otherwise, great place and great food. read more

great atmosphere, staff are friendly. Great assortment of unique beer. They also have delicious food but a little pricey

Great, if not particularly innovative beer and rock solid pub food. True West is probably playing it safe as this area isn't crawling with breweries or particularly avant-garde restaurants, but what they do, they do well. Think of it as a modern update of the 90's brewpub. Instead of the fake British pub interior, they've gone with a clean, but rustic New England-y vibe. They have all your favorite pub/brewery foods (including tots), but done with local ingredients and attention to detail. We went with the fried pickles (perfectly fried, but could have had a more intense pickle flavor), Greek kale salad (no complaints here), and the fried chicken sandwich. Although you might get sticker shock from the $14 price tag, this is Acton so it probably isn't out of the ordinary, this sandwich easily serves two people and it comes already cut in half. The fries it comes with are hand cut and properly fried, not a half cooked limp one in the whole bunch. The beer here is all quite good and checks of all the style boxes so you can bring pretty much any beer drinker here and they'll find something enjoyable. While they don't get crazy within the styles, the beers are all very well made and it seemed to me that they care more about quality control than most brewpubs. True West is not at the forefront of the beer or food scenes in Massachusetts, but I don't think they are trying to be the next Tree House or Tasting Counter. read more

The food was amazing. The beer was delicious. The service was wonderful. I'll be back here many times.

Never coming back. Its a shame because I can walk there. Been here multiple times and was here on opening weekend, a few weeks after that, a few months after that, a year after that...In a nutshell, Food is always dark brown due to over-cooking, most items saturated with oil but the worst... the service. OMG! the Manager needs to re-think if they are going to survive because after chatting to a few of my neighbors, I am not the only one. read more

I have been coming to True West for several years, and while the food and beer are certainly good, it's the atmosphere and staff that keep me coming back. We live in Concord and have been here a few times. Tonight was a major disappointment. The bar was almost empty and our service from the bartender was awful. After ordering dinner and a glass of wine he walked by us several times and didn't register that he didn't get my wine. I finally asked him and he didn't even remember what I ordered. The food was mediocre and my husband's burger came with cheese when he specifically asked for no cheese. The bartender never bothered to ask if I'd like another glass of wine and so I asked again for a refill. When it didn't come yet again I was waved away as if being a pain. It's like the bartender has no attention span for what was just asked of him???? Will not be going back read more

Venue is underwhelming and understaffed. Waited 40 minutes for apps. Ordered 2 apps and they didn't even come out together. Party of 6 for dinner and all least half were overcooked. Fifth time here. They do great beer. Period. They continue to have no idea how to run the food side of the operation. Waited two hours for a table starting at 445. Many open table and they have no clue how to flip the room for productivity. On a Saturday night they ran out of four main ingredients. Like cheese. Really. Waited 45 minutes for food which is still mediocre at best. Menu is creative but portions are inconsistent and usually small. I suggest a beer or cocktail but eating elsewhere. 5 Stars for filling a need in West Acton! After a long wait, True West is finally open. Visited tonight with a couple buddies for some beer and apps. Tried their own brews...they only have 2 right now...First Batch (a brown ale) and their golden ale...both very good. Tried the wings as well and they were meaty and tasty. The menu looks great - pub fare /comfort food with twist, all apparently made from scratch. Friendly and efficient staff which is a good sign considering they just opened. Nice buildout/decor sort of industrial chic. They have an outside deck (no seating) but it was raining tonight so stuck inside. The one negative, and they really need to address this, is that it was so loud that we couldn't even hear ourselves talk. I've been in noisy bars before but this was crazy loud. Even after the crowd thinned out it seemed just as loud. I strongly suggest some noise cancelling fixtures and then it will be my home away from home :) read more

Well, we didn't actually eat or drink here. VERY loud. Arrived about 5:30 on a Saturday. Was told the wait would be an hour and a half. So we put our name in and had some discussion about it. We decided to try our luck somewhere else after about 15 minutes (members of our party were hungry), went back to the hostess to take our party of 6 off the list. She hadn't even taken our name down! Reading reviews it certainly seems mixed, I'm not sure why anyone thinks 1.5 hours is an acceptable wait time. We ended up at Rapscalion, where they were very accomodating, seated us right away, even though they were also busy, served us and we were done in 1.5 hours. We WILL be going there again. read more
