    Chicken Piccata
    Maddy F.

We had dinner at Benito's on a Saturday, busy but we were seated quickly. Our server was attentive and friendly. The kitchen was slow but we understand weekends are busy. Our meals were good but very pricey for what you are getting. I enjoyed the chicken piccata and my boyfriend had the baked haddock. The only thing that went poorly was the Paloma mocktail-- it was not advertised as a spicy/smoky drink. The mocktail was more expensive than my boyfriend's old fashioned. Overall, it was a nice experience and I think we would try again! It was nice to see it so busy filled with laughter and people!

(Apr 2026) For dinner, we had a baby-spinach salad with crushed walnuts, moist dried cranberries, crumbled gorgonzola, and sweet zingy raspberry vinaigrette. And rich tender spinach, basil, and tomato tortellini, in a creamy garlic sauce. Their Mussels Fra-Diavlo were fresh tender and juicy, sauteed in garlic olive oil, with crushed red peppers and rich Pomodoro sauce. We loved their brightly-flavored chicken piccata, pan-sautéed in light fresh-tasting olive oil, with white-wine lemon-butter sauce, tasty little capers, and melt-in-your-mouth artichoke hearts. Served over creamy risotto. So good! Our server, Maybelline is the nicest best ever, with a great sense of humor. We were happy to see Dario's busy in the early evening on a Friday (Apr 2026). Their dishes are so good, each perfectly prepared and delicious. They rival any we've had in that big Olde Towne on the harbor :-). We hope that Dario's Ristorante is part of a resurgence of good food spots in this part of town.

The bruschetta was different than most, but okay. The dessert, tiramisu, was the best part of the meal. I was not familiar with the brands of Cabernet, and I wanted a glass of Rodney Strong, but it was not available by the glass. I settled for the server's recommendation. It was fine. The server was excellent and attentive. We walked away thinking that the 5 star experience we previously had, was now a 2 star and at a premium.

My review is no reflection on the atmosphere or waitstaff... strictly the food. Our appetizers were pretty good... calamari and escargot... nothing special, but, acceptable. After that.. things went way downhill. Two of us, ordered the veal parm. It was served on a piping hot plate, however, I can assure you, this was not made to order. The veal cutlet was clearly cooked hours before as it was barely lukewarm warm in Temperature and the breading was not one bit, crispy. It was soggy. Not made to order! It was served over a bed of "angel hair." The angel hair was cut up in multiple small pieces... the way you would serve it to a baby experiencing pasta for the first time. I asked our waitress "why is the pasta all cut up like this?" She responded: "I don't know." Not only was it cut up into pieces...(who does that? ) it was also soggy and way overcooked. The meal was a huge disappointment. My other dining companion ordered the fried pork chop which was a special. It wasn't too bad... he reported it was tender... it came with mash and a side of corn that looked like it came straight out of a can of Delmonte. No frills there. It was clearly canned corn. My sister got the cavatappi pasta that came with shrimp ; cannellini beans and a veg mixed in and it was swimming in a sub-par sauce that was lacking in any seasoning. All the entrees lacked basic seasoning. I want to go to a restaurant where my dish is made to order. Hot and crispy cutlets; Al Dente pasta; corn that's not poured out of a tin can and entrees that are served hot! This place has gone way downhill. I was there several years ago my experience was very different. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant and it certainly wasn't worth the $300 dollars (including tip) that we paid. Entrees were 30 + dollars each! What a joke to be charging those prices for the sub-standard food we were served. We will never go back. On a Positive note, my sister was given a lovely birthday dessert plate of sticky toffee pudding and ice cream.

Il Forno embodies the unique flavors of classic Italian cuisine with the highest quality of ingredients, freshness, and presentations. There is a plethora of delectable options to choose from at affordable prices, especially before 3:00 p.m. Some days I order a light option like mussels nestled in a white wine garlic sauce or the tasty chef's Mediterranean's version with flavorful black olives. The pasta fagioli with creamy cannellini beans is also a favorite. If I am hungrier, i check out the special menu of the day as well as the full menu. Chicken Piccata is a very popular selection with its homemade sauce and briny capers. I also like the baked Haddock Organette and order a side of the best grilled asparagus I adore. I invite you to take your time to study the unique salads, pizza, sandwiches and more. You won't be disappointed.
