And rich tender spinach, basil, and tomato tortellini, in a creamy garlic sauce. Their Mussels Fra-Diavlo were fresh tender and juicy, sauteed in garlic olive oil, with crushed red peppers and rich Pomodoro sauce. We loved their brightly-flavored chicken piccata, pan-sautéed in light fresh-tasting olive oil, with white-wine lemon-butter sauce, tasty little capers, and melt-in-your-mouth artichoke hearts. Served over creamy risotto. So good! Our server, Maybelline is the nicest best ever, with a great sense of humor. We were happy to see Dario's busy in the early evening on a Friday (Apr 2026). Their dishes are so good, each perfectly prepared and delicious. They rival any we've had in that big Olde Towne on the harbor :-). The Caesar salad I ordered was excellent and loaded with anchovies, which I love. However, others may want to hold the anchovies, but that's just how I like it. I'd come back for the Caesar salad alone. Excellent cocktails across the bar at a reasonable price. Very good wine list again with good pricing. Perhaps the only negative thing I could say is the corkage fee was $35 which is a little bit high even for California pricing. However, overall, the pricing here is very good and fair. Their huge 275-seat event space was packed at tables for 4 to 8, for the two 1-hour sets of Live Dead & Brothers Band, an Allman Brothers - Grateful Dead group of legacy musicians from those bands and families!!! An authentic rockin' performance! They opened hot, with Feelin' Alright and Truckin', and ended hot with Midnight Rider, Ramblin' Man, and Jessica, with around 14 more between. The acoustics were excellent at our table, and we also took up our share of the crowded dance area :-) Their tour continues at least through Dec 2026. Our tickets were about $50 each. Service was fast and friendly, and they let us pull up one more chair for our group of nine. You can get crafted beers and cocktails. We settled in with ice cold regional beers, which honestly are just as distinctive as fancy craft beers. We got some food to share off their "concert menu", too. An entrée-size dish of rich creamy homemade Mac & Cheese, made with tasty aged Grafton Cheddar, soft slightly-al-dente curly Cavatappi pasta tubes, not-overcooked green beans, as i recall, crisply crusted with lightly-maple breadcrumbs. Very flavorful and satisfying. A sweet fresh bright Autumn Salad of greens, pecans, and bright beets, in tart vinaigrette. And juicy "Bull Run Classic" burgers with crisp lettuce, tasty firm tomato, mildly-sharp red onion, and, for one of them, an add-on of rich cheddar, all on a cloud-like brioche bun. They do ask for $20 per person food/beverage minimum for all shows, essentially an entree or a couple beverages each. That's about what we had planned to order anyway :-) This place knocked us out with their dedication to farm-to-table ingredients, sourced from more than 25 regional farms named on the dinner menu. We've never seem such an extensive list of the actual sources. Very cool! The Bull Run has been a tavern since 1741, named after the Battle of Bull Run in 1861, (or in another version, named for a brawl in the tavern at the same time :-), and has been run by the Guercios extended-family since 1946. It was a stop on the stagecoach route and a gathering place for the Revolutionary war. We loved the original wood, structure, and décor. The fireplaces were lovely. It's a huge venue. Bull Run has live music every week, and they're open Wed-Sun, but watch their schedule because dates vary, sometimes one day that week, sometimes all four! This show was in their 275-seat room. There's at least one larger room for around 400. Theres a little parking along Rt 2A, and much more out back across the covered bridge. Dont be put off by the rustic exterior. We loved this legendary performance at a legendary restaurant!

It was only a couple of years ago that a coworker of mine was raving about this place and couldn't believe I had never gone. The parking spots in front of the building fill up very quickly. However, if you drive towards the back where the trucks pull in, you can actually drive up the slope for several more spots. I believe there's another adjacent bunch of spots to park on the ground level, but I'm not confident. As soon as you step inside, there are 2 lines you can wait in. Towards the left you can order food from their kitchen and enjoy the typical assortment of fried seafoods that you've probably already familiar with from many other joints. In fact, this place has a sister location called Kay's Dairy Bar in Westminster. Towards the right, you stand in line for the wholesale products. Today I came in the some big ol lobsters. The staff here are all super friendly, as well as all of the customers. I had pleasant conversations with everyone. I was able to get my three 4-pound behemoths steamed here, and you can eat ask for a cup of drawn butter from the restaurant side. Since I was feeling hungry, I grabbed a plate of fried scallops too. Lobsters - I follow their FB page and I was drawn in by a couple of the posts showcasing some behemoths.
