First time ever in the HEB store, I came across this BBQ spot and decided I wanted to try the food. In the middle of ordering my food the fire Alarm went off. Ignored it and after paying for my food everyone had to evacuate lol. Eventually we got to go back in, my food didn't take long to come out. Place was clean, staff were on point. Ordered the loaded baked potato w/brisket and Mac and cheese. Potato was spot on however the max and cheese was just a little bit to cheesy and you can definitely taste the Gouda but other than that I was impressed with the food it is definitely way better than Dickey's BBQ Pit I'd say the food is worth the price. read more

Waited until outside of bbq place until 11:15a with a group of other people. Finally store manager came over and we explained there was no sign of life inside. So he went in and was met by a large African woman who was gesturing wildly and pointing. The two had a discussion and store manager came back and opened the rope barrier We went in, I was second order of the day. The woman ahead of me ordered 1 lb of chopped brisket so it wasn't a huge order. Nonetheless I waited 20 minutes for my order of two sliced brisket sandwiches to go As I was getting cutlery and napkins, an old Middle Eastern guy who smelled and looked like he hadn't showered in a long time loudly said, "Pick up after yourselves. The waste bins are there and there (pointing)". He continued, "Don't throw your trays away." Thinking he was a street person I asked if he needed help. Turns out he works there cleaning tables. I was really behind schedule so didn't check to go order carefully, I took 70ish woman who gave it to me at face value when she said "looks like it's all here" (she was very nice but not competent at filling to go order). I was shorted a side of beans and a side of collard greens. When finally had the sandwiches, I noticed it was very fatty and extremely salty -- I had ordered 'lean'. My friend who wanted H‑E‑B bbq couldn't finish his sandwich because it was so incredibly salty I LOVE H‑E‑B, but this mis-managed bbq location won't be a place I patronize again. Attn: REVIEW IS FOR THE MAIN ST FRISCO LOCATION!!! I didn't realize I was on the Preston Rd. Plano location. I don't know anything about the Preston Rd. Plano location. Sorry about that! MAIN & LEGACY FRISCO LOCATION ONLY !!!! This place SUCKS! HEB is my regular grocery store so I'm in there quite a bit. Now and then I'll grab a couple of brisket sandwiches on the way out to take home with me. They try to run this place like a fastfood restaurant not like a "True Texas" BBQ joint. Even though they're slower than molasses. I always order two "lean" sliced brisket sandwiches to go. One with pickles & onions the other one plain and get my own sauce at the self serve on the way out. Simple right? Not here! They just can't seem to get it right. They used to put "lean" on the ticket when you ordered that way but for some reason they just don't do that anymore. That really doesn't matter because you never know what you're going to get anyway. A few times when I got home (10mi away) I'd open the containers and have pickles and onions on both or two plain sandwiches. Sometimes they'd get it right. As far as the lean meat goes half the time I'd get cuts from the fatty end of the brisket. I'd call and tell the manager and he'd say ok what's your name? Like it was a routine call he got all the time. Ok, you're on the list for two free sandwiches just come back and get them or pick them up next time you're here. No apology at all. Like it was no big deal. To me at $8.79 plus tax per sandwich it is kind of a big deal. That started getting old so I just began checking the sandwiches before I left to make sure they were what I ordered. I stopped in there yesterday and ordered a couple of sandwiches and emphasized to the guy three times that I wanted lean meat. I got my order and looked to see what I ended up with and sure enough I had two sandwiches sliced from the fatty end of the brisket. Probably 40% fat. I went back to the counter and the guy that took my order wasn't there but a gal that was doing something else asked me what I needed. I told her I ordered two lean brisket sandwiches and emphasized three times I wanted them lean. She said yeah I overhead you ordering. I opened the containers and said does that look lean to you? She said Oh My God! I'll go back there and get two more and make sure they're right. Which she did. She gave me the remade sandwiches told me she was sorry and to just keep the fatty ones. I thanked her and said I really don't want these fatty sandwiches but I have an 85lb Labradoodle that will love them. She laughed and said I bet he will. So that's where they ended up. I'm a 70yr old Texan and have eaten BBQ my entire life all over Texas. I've eaten the best and the worst of it. I don't mean to come on like an expert on BBQ but I sure know what's good and what's bad. To tell the truth this BBQ isn't as good as they think it is. The flavor's ok and the brisket has a nice bark on it but it's always way too dry. You better have a drink close by to wash it down with. I'd give it middle of the road at best. Some of the many transplants that have recently moved to this area from other states might think it's the real deal and like it. They just haven't discovered the good places yet that really know what BBQ is all about. They will. Like everything else It's just a matter of time. Plus they use a small hamburger bun for the sandwich so for about $9.00 a sandwich it's really not a bargain at all. It's just convienient when you're already in the store and want a couple of sandwiches to take home. I can stop in one of the local BBQ joints on the way home and for a couple dollars more get a bigger sandwich on a large bun made the way I want that tastes a hell of a lot better than the stuff this place puts out. I've given this place plenty of chances to get their act together but they just can't seem to get it figured out so I'm done. It's just not worth the aggravation. I'll keep shopping at HEB but I'll never set foot in another "True Texas BBQ" location again! Why even bother? I'm sure they're all about the same. Bad service, bad food need I say more. IT's unfortunately just a convenience matter or else I'd go elsewhere. Be sure and check the bag if you do take out. They do not give you your full order and if you ask for condiments in the side you May not get it. I say HeB please provide retraining of this branch in your business. Ordered Turkey sausage sandwich, but received brisket sausage. But it was good. Can't lie I have turned into a Brisket snob, so was skeptical. While not the best TX brisket, it was better than expected. Enjoyed the beans, too. Pork nachos and macaroni were good but not great. Ordered Loaded potato with pulled pork, potato was not cooked all the way but the pulled pork was good. While I would get BBQ from here again for a quick meal I wouldn't brag about this place as the best. read more

Wasn't worth the wait! Husband and I decided to try it out for lunch on a Wednesday. We arrived around 11:30 a.m. and waited in line for approximately 30 minutes to order. Prepare yourself to wait in line. They only have one cash register. So, only one employee taking your order. I think this is ridiculous! They need at least one more cash register to speed things up!! Once we placed our order, we got our self-service drinks and barbecue sauce. The wait to get our food was quick, only 5 minutes. They text you when it is ready and you pick it up where you order. We each got 2-meat plates which comes with two sides. I tried the lean sliced brisket and turkey. The brisket wasn't juicy or flavorful at all. The turkey was just okay. I liked both the sweet and peppery BBQ sauces, though. For sides, I had the cream corn and potato salad. Both had a bit if a spicy after kick, but really good! My husband had the BBQ Texas tornado, sausage and burnt ends. The Texas tornado was very tasty. He said the sausage was gummy and the portion of burnt ends was smaller than expected, but pretty good. He had the mac n cheese and cole slaw for sides. I tried them and both were very good. Overall, I don't think we will be back. Disappointed. read more

My mom and I had the pleasure of checking out HEB today and after we put our groceries in our car we came back inside to try the BBQ. Let me tell you it didn't disappoint at all it was AMAZING!!!! The young man at the counter gave us his recommendation which was anything with their turkey. We decided to try their turkey sandwich with sauce, pickles and onions and holy smokes the amount of turkey was unreal and the flavor was out of this world!!! We also tried the Mac and cheese and high was spectacular and highly recommended as well by the young man who took our order. The place was super clean and the staff extremely friendly. We will definitely go back because there are soooo many more things I want to try!!! Please give this place a try you won't be disappointed!!!! read more

We ordered BBQ tonight for dinner tonight. What a disappointment. We got 2 small pieces of meat. The turkey was dry. The brisket and sausage were ok - just very small amounts. The sides were good but not great. They took out their BBQ sauce dispenser. Now you have to ask for it because none is included with the meal. That may be a good thing because the sauce they have now tastes like plastic. We will not be returning. read more

I have alway been a big fan of a local Frisco and Mc Kinney Texas BBQ joint. Now after trying True Texas BBQ at two of there locations I have put True Texas BBQ on the top of my favorite, I used the drive-thru in Plano and dine in at the San Antonio location. Today we visited the Plano True Texas BBQ located in the H-E-B store. H-E-B was so busy on Sunday at 1 PM that a security guard was limiting access at the door with a line of about 30 people waiting to get inside. We chose to drive through for BBQ instead of standing in line. The service was efficient. Our time in line from ordering to getting food was about 5 minutes with 5 cars in front of us. We ordered 4 meats to go with no sides. The lean beef brisket was outstanding: delicious, moist, and inexpensively priced compared to other BBQ restaurants. We chose the sweet BBQ sauce which was good. The store provided us a loaf of H-E-B butter split bread with our order of 2 pounds. Turkey was tasty but a little dry. Sausage was good. Each link was about a quarter pound in weight. Our least favorite meat was the pork ribs. The other meat options were much better. Although we originally planned to walk in and eat inside, we are happy that we switched to drive through for eating great BBQ at home due to the line. read more

When you don't expect much you get surprised. I thought this would be a decent ok bbq based on looking at this place. I was pleasantly surprised. Bbq is elevated so much in the metroplex. Back in the day bbq was great no matter where I went locally. This was way before the new trend of gourmet bbq and Franklins. Now we have so many elevated bbq places to choose from. We are so lucky. I've been to quite a few places cattleack bbq, Terry blacks, ten 50, hard eight and plenty more. This was actually pretty damn good. Brisket lean and Moist was great. Good smoke good bark great taste and so tender. Consistency is the key so not sure if i got lucky but I'll be going back. Mac and Cheese was hands down some of the best. Serrano cornbread was really good too. Sausage was really good as well. Potato salad was not the best but it was solid. This place gets my seal of approval and live the drive through. I was in and out so fast and took the food home for dinner. Even reheated the food was excellent. Price was on point with what you'd expect for bbq. I'll def be back. They have a good size menu and plenty to try for a few visits. Luckily they did great upon first impressions. So lucky I live in dfw. We are bbq spoiled or at least I am. read more

My first visit was less than stellar. What I requested was a pound of sliced beef, sweet sauce, onions, pickles, and a medium coleslaw. What I got was a pound of sliced beef and medium coleslaw. No sauce, no pickles, no onions. My slightly dry beef really could have used the sauce. More importantly, the order should be correct. Poor attention to detail for a new business. Just went through the drive through and ordered my food to discover when I got home that I didn't get everything I paid for, so I called the restaurant and ask for a refund on my card and they informed me I would need to drive back to the restaurant for that( I live about 8 miles away). In this would of technology it's hard for me to imagine that they can't do this or if not offer a coupon or something. I feel like I've been taken advantage of. The fatty brisket is perfect. Balanced smoke flavor, rich and not too salty. The ribs are okay, at average level. The only thing I want to complain is their creamy corn and potato salad are both spicy - I was hoping my 2 year old will enjoy but they are too spicy for him.
