    Surrender position.

I was gifted a trip with my sister to try out this float thing. Knowing very little we made our appts with an open mind and awaited our relaxing adventure. The receptionist was very serine. We signed our waver which raised some concerns I did not initially have. We changed out of our shoes into theirs and watched a video on floating positions and the benefits of floating. They say the best benefits come from floating often. After the explanation of how to use the items in the personal room and showering completely I climbed into my pod for a 60 min float. I left it open and wished the water was warmer and the music had not shut off after 5 mins. I experienced a burning in my neck/ shoulder blade which the video warned me might happen but that the pain would subside. It did not, even with trying different positions. I did start to try to let my mind relax and dream but was startled awake by abrupt noises coming from the hallway. A mans voice, doors seeming to be shut loudly, banging. The only light in my room is the pod I'm in and I was not feeling calm or relaxed. I know when the music comes on again it means get out and I'm just anxiously awaiting it's arrival. The music played, I excited the pod, rinsed off and tried hard to stop my hair from dripping from my bun. I didn't want to wash my colored hair with the shampoo provided and risk fadeage so I squeezed out the most water I could. I waited for my sister in the resting lounge that offers an oxygen bar and journals of other people's experiences. I tried the lavender oxygen for the first time and my sister tried orange. She said she couldn't smell orange. I'm not sure what I was supposed to experience but I smelled lavender. The receptionist apologized for the noise, a maintenance man was repairing a pod. During business hours?! I'm glad this was a gift and not my own money. I would not choose to have this experience again. Tip: bring a change of clothes. If you do not shampoo your hair after you will ultimately drip salt everywhere you go.

Have you seen the movie "Minority Report"? I felt like one of the precogs that were floating in the water, except I didn't get the previsualized visions that the psychics in the movie received. Instead, I had a rejuvenating and relaxing experience. I first heard of floatation tanks from one of my co-workers after I had mentioned that I practice meditation. I was intrigued and was more than ready for inner-space travel, so I booked myself a floatation. On my first time, it took a while for me to get adapted to floating on the salt water. I had a hard time concentrating, and even got an itch on my face. They tell you not to move, but I ended up scratching myself and got salt water in my eye. Not good! However, there's a water spray bottle inside the tank just in case this happens. I've heard that the first time is the most difficult and that the benefits get better with each session. So I decided to book myself another one. My second session in the tank, it took almost no time to get still both physically and mentally. Once I started slipping deeper and deeper into a peaceful relaxation, I became unaware of time, and I experienced an almost spiritual and mental detox. Being inside this sensory deprivation tank was a nice break from social media and everyday distractions. Being inside it forced me to confront the highs and lows of what happened to me in the past few years and channel positive energy toward what's to come. I felt euphoric, and meditative by being perfectly still. I'm going for my third float next week, and I intend to experience more positive results. I've heard that the benefits get better with each session.

UPDATE: Holly was super nice booking my float, then Stephen was great... got me right in, was super calming and then hooked me up to the Oxygen Bar and let me breathe in peace, only asking if I needed anything or wanted to switch scents once. Although I still wasn't able to fall asleep (once again, my fault, not theirs!) I left much more relaxed than last time and thinking about purchasing a membership in the near future. The ONLY thing I would've changed was the accessible room I was in, because as a tall woman (6'0) the shower was too low and the shower chair threw off my "spa vibe" as it makes me think of work... (I'm a senior living director..) haha. But other than that, MUCHHHHH better experience this time than last... I'll definitely float again some time. Thank you Holly and Stephen!

At this point, even tying my shoes feels like an Olympic event, so I'm willing to try anything that might help. I signed up for a month since it's $99 and unlimited...total no-brainer. I've done the sauna, which is amazing and private. There's even a TV in the room, so you can watch your favorite show, listen to their zen music, or (like me) blast your playlist and reflect on this next chapter in life. I also tried cryotherapy, which feels incredible and hits -100 degrees--basically the perfect follow-up to the sauna. And then there's the vibrating plate surrounded by infrared lights... that one was fun, but I couldn't stop giggling the whole time. Don't ask me why...it's just one of those things.. LOL. The service here is top-notch, and everyone is so friendly and helpful. I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this float spa's Tempe location…read more I was previously a loyal member at their Scottsdale location from 2020-2021 and had wonderful experiences. After moving away and later returning, I reestablished my membership and began visiting the Tempe location. Until recently, my visits had been positive. A month ago, I was involved in a serious car accident and needed to pause my membership while recovering. I communicated this with management and was told my account would be paused. I was also told I could still float during that time. In fact, I came in the week prior to this incident and had a seamless, excellent experience. However, my most recent visit was completely different. When I arrived for my scheduled float, I was met with hostility and unprofessional behavior from the front desk staff member, Jeremy. From the beginning, his demeanor made me feel unwelcome, as though I did not belong there. He insisted I update my card before I could proceed, despite the fact that I have an active membership and a valid card on file. I explained I could update my card later, or he could use the existing card or a gift card on my account--but he refused all options except my gift card which he didn't want me to use unless I gave him a different card. I explained to him the card on file was fine. Ultimately, I was forced to proceed under stressful conditions, which completely disrupted what should have been a therapeutic experience. My float was filled with anxiety, and I ended it early--something that has never happened to me before. After my session, the poor service continued. I was given tea but then left unattended for over 30 minutes. I was not offered any of the post-float amenities included in my membership, such as oxygen or the salt cave. I eventually gathered my belongings and prepared to leave. As I exited, Jeremy called out to ask if I wanted to schedule another session, then told me I could not return until I updated my card. This was both confusing and inappropriate, especially since I had not been billed, nor had any payment attempt been made on my account. When I tried to calmly understand the issue, I was met with dismissiveness and escalating rudeness. He ultimately directed me to email the manager, then abruptly ended the interaction by slamming items and walking away. I left in tears. As a person of color, I cannot ignore how this interaction made me feel. I have never felt this way at this business before, but this experience raised serious concerns about how I was treated and why. I contacted the manager, Amanda, and was initially blamed for the situation. Only after further clarification did she apologize, stating she had not been given the full story. While I appreciate the apology, the damage had already been done. I have since canceled my membership. Paying $200 per month should come with professionalism, respect, and care--especially in a wellness environment. No client should ever feel disrespected, dismissed, or unwelcome. I will not be returning.

From the second I walked in, you can tell they take pride in what they're doing. The place is spotless, the vibe is calm, and everything feels intentional. What stood out to me right away was the staff. Super welcoming, very professional, and they actually take the time to walk you through everything so you're not guessing or feeling awkward your first time. They explain the process, what to expect, and answer anything you throw at them. The float itself... honestly, you just have to experience it. It's one of those things that's hard to explain but you feel the difference right away. Mentally and physically, I walked out feeling reset. I've got to shout out Keeley. She was/is amazing. We were both interested in high concentration Epsom salt, sensory deprivation, and relaxation. But unfortunately we both ended up not loving it :( It was super easy to schedule an appointment, they have a great introductory offer for first time floaters, Keely was amazing at explaining everything to us, and helping to manage our expectations and answering our questions. I love the salt lamps inside! You shower before using the pod, hear music for 15 minutes, then float in darkness (there is a light if you choose to use it) and silence for 40 minutes, then music comes back on for a five minute warning before it's time to get out. The water is skin temperature but I was actually a little bit cold during my float. I tried floating without using any support devices but decided to use the halo when I started to feel some tension in my neck. At one point I did get some salt water in my eye and it does burn pretty bad but they have a spray bottle and washcloth to rinse it out. The reason I didn't love it is really no fault of theirs. I had a hard time quieting my mind. Maybe if I didn't have so much going on, I could have quieted my mind and had a more peaceful experience. I was also a little bit cold so I kept moving around to try to submerge the cold parts of my body to warm up a little. I didn't mind the humidity in the pod and didn't have trouble breathing but my mom really didn't enjoy that part. I got a little nauseated afterwards and chose ginger and mint oxygen scents to try to help with the nausea. Keeley was so accommodating and let me change my sense a couple times. If you're interested in the concept, definitely give it a try! It was very clean and the staff were very kind.

An hour in the pod is enough time to destress after a long day or week. As someone who has anxiety, sitting in a dark pod can be triggering a bit.
