I'm so upset. I went to get my nails done today before an audition as a nail model and this lady Hellen (the lady who did my nails) really fluffed it up. My cuticles sting, my nail polish is uneven, she only put 1 coat on some and when I inquired about it she got visibly upset, when I inquired about services and heard her trying to upcharge me a different price from the person across from me I declined and she was visibly upset. Listen, I'm not paying for a design, I'm not paying for tips or a full set, I'm not paying to be cheated. Hellen charged me 22.00 after washing my hands and before applying the polish. I gave the bish 23.00 cash and was hoping her skills would come through on a basic polish. NOOOPE! NOPE! NOPE! NOOOOPE!. Hellen needs either to go school to get a proper state board license or continued education because bay bay, she ain't deserve no tip, she doesn't deserve c e a job working on nails ad maybe she would be best fit stocking towels with her poor skills, lack of customer service and bad attitude. I was gong to get my feet done but noooooope, fuck that. If I ever go here again it's because they cheap and you get what you pay for. All them damn seats and they give me no skills Hellen. Anna, a nail tech I've used a couple times became belligerent when I gave her a 15% tip on a $30 manicure and stormed off. The owner witnessed this and was seemingly unbothered by her behavior and actually joked "she doesn't like you". She's unfriendly I was appalled and realized they are there for the come up and not the customer. My mother had the suspicion cause we ended up staying there until about 9:10 so I set a timer on my phone for 10 minutes sure enough her timer went off at 7 minutes so they cheated me out of 3 minutes which is UNACCEPTABLE! Unprofessional and unfair. Simply put, my nails were manicured with a dipping powder color I did not select (not even in the same color family) and the owner only offered $5 off the service fee. I selected a soft gray nail color, #66. The tech returned with the pot of powder and the top said #66. As she begin the application, however, the powder looked more pink than it should be. So I commented that it looked pink. She showed me the top and repeated that it was #66 but she would check after the first round of dipping. She also suggested that maybe the company had filled the pot with the wrong color - I suggested perhaps the tops had just been misplaced. She returned with a similar color, just a darker gray - #67 - and opened the top. The powder there appeared to be pink in hue as well, so I was under the impression the shade would change. She asked if I wanted the darker color and I said no. After the second round it became apparent that the color was indeed a pink, but I again thought, since both gray powders looked pinkish in the pot, that perhaps there was an activator step that would darken the color and give it the color on the jar. It never happened. When I complained to the manager, she went back and forth with me explaining that I had agreed to the pink color, which was not the case. Communication was complicated because of the language barrier, but ultimately, with very little time to start the service all over with the right color at this point, I opted to leave. She offered ONLY a $5 discount and the tech actually raised her voice when taking my card to pay. Extremely unprofessional and short sighted. With an already poor score, it didn't seem like a smart move to have made a mistake and not make it right, especially when I advised that I would be leaving a negative review. Just not smart at all. I gave advice that first they might want to do an audit of the colors and make sure the right color powder is in the pots (or return them to the manufacturer and get a new set). I also offered that the best way to have handled this was to stop when we noticed that the color was a bit off in the pot and GO FIND THE RIGHT COLOR. If such wasn't possible, I should have been given the color wheel to pick a new color and moved on from there. Even after this discussion and the manager agreed, she still only offered $5 - apparently she had to pay the tech and was unwilling to have the matter corrected out of the salon's accounting. Again, short-sighted. Even a 50% discount might have meant a more favorable review. She didn't even try for a mistake that was clearly the salon's fault. A family member warned that the service was lacking, but for the sake of convenience I tried it anyway and totally regret it. If you decide to visit this place, you will need to advocate for yourself from beginning to end and it is possible that, if you're speaking English, the tech may not understand your advocacy. I will not be returning in part because the business is run poorly and also because when mistakes do happen, this place doesn't do what it can to show it values your business enough to make you whole. read more

Tonight was my first time here. Pups went to the groomers, and without my dog, I feel like I have no purpose. I shopped. Went to the tailors, bought a dress, cookies, had a martini, bought a new wii game. On my way home, with 2 more hours to kill I remembered this place, right by my house. SCORE. The place is immaculate, and brand new beautiful. Granite countertops around the sinks, clean work stations, mellow music, and nice lighting. A beautiful chandelier in the middle of it all too... I was really impressed with this salon being so nice, seeing how there's a popeyes like 500 feet from this establishment, lol. I walk in at 715 and its nearly empty. They close at 8... but they took me anyway. I had a toe polish change, a manicure, and eyebrow wax. It was $30 plus tip. I had a girl named Lisa who was quick thorough, and very nice. I'm used to NY prices so 8$ polish change, $12 manicure, and $10 wax are fantastic prices to me. They have massage ($75/hour), hair salon, tanning, and hydro-massage (whatever that is). I recently relocated from NYC to DMV & I am desperate to find a great nail salon. I've only had my nails done here once & I won't go back. I spent $93 on an acrylic fill, gel color, pedicure w/ gel color. Within 4 days the 1st nail broke. I was inconvenienced to have to go back for the repair, and 2 days later a 2nd nail broke. As of last week a total of 5 nails have broken ( I wear long nails & I've been repairing them with crazy glue) The problem is the acrylic they use is weak. When these nails were breaking it was not painful. Also the reception is cold, there was a woman standing there just staring at me when I walked in, very uncomfortable no reception, I didn't feel welcome. Both my sister and I got French manicures but the quality varies between the two. I waited about 20minutes with my feet soaking in the foot soaker before I was attended to while my sister was attended to right away. Her French manicure was beautiful while mine had no arch to it. When asking for an arch they said they couldn't because my nail was too wide and it wouldn't look good. Not a great experience overall. read more

Today I was surprised by the comment the owner made in regards to our former President Obama. The owner stated; He has to go(President Obama), it's been 8 years,it's time for him to go". The owner clearly has a right to voice her opinion, but as an owner some conversations are table conversations and not for the business. Knowing that 80% of her clientele are women of color and millennials, would have been a remember of the fabric of equality desired in our country. The spa pedicure included hot stones and all the works and was definitely worth the upgrade. Hygiene precautions seemed to be in place which is a pro. I want to try a facial the next time. I've been a customer since they were K Nails located at the other end of the shopping center. I started getting my hair done there a few years ago. I am a long time customer and will continue to go back, but it isn't for the service, decor, environment or prices. I keep going back because my nail tech (Van) is awesome (best person they have IMO) and my hair stylist (Kerry) is based there. If she moves, I move. If Van leaves, I'd follow her if she goes to a nearby shop. Otherwise, I'd start checking out some other places. In terms of service - the staff are rude and fairly indifferent. It is as if they are doing us a favor vs. us paying them for a service. I hate to say it, but they basically deliver on every stereotype that exits when it comes to Vietnamese nail salons -- techs talk to each other in Vietnamese and effectively ignore you as if you aren't even there, many don't speak very clear English, their idea of a greeting is a "what do you want" look followed by a terse command "pick your polish" with a half-gesture toward the vicinity of the polish rack. I could go on, but you get the point. In terms of decor - what was originally a beautifully styled salon with a posh look and feel, is slowly become a slightly tacky wannabe posh salon. Calm soothing earth tones are being replaced by harsh blues and greens. Repairs are DIY, so they cheapen the look of the original design. My pet peeve are the pictures on the right just as you enter the salon that are practically falling off the wall, not to mention that the posters inside the frames are falling down. In terms of cleanliness - I'm on the fence. The place looks clean if you don't look to hard. But, look more closely at the baseboards, the shelves and chandeliers and you'll notice dust. If they can't clean the obvious areas, it sometimes make me wonder how well they clean everything else. I previously rated this place a 4, but I'm downgrading them to a 3. The only thing keeping me from dropping it to a two is that they are essentially no worse or better than any other run-of-the mill Vietnamese owned/operated nail salon. Ok, it is prettier than most (I always loved the design) - I'll give it that. Otherwise...unless you live nearby or happen to be in the area, there is no real reason to come vs. anywhere else. I was a loyal customer here for years. Lisa was my favorite nail tech and always shaped my nails perfectly. I broke my nail today and have an important meeting tomorrow so needed to get my nail fixed last minute. Unfortunately, Lisa was not in today so I went to see Sara. Sara normally does my friends nails so figured she'd take good care of me. I arrived to the shop about 40 minutes before closing and explained the situation. I was immediately met with an attitude by Sara but knew I needed my nail fixed so I dealt with it. Honestly, I was better off with a broken nail. During the process she cut my finger and failed to remove the SNS dipping powder completely from my nail resulting in an extremely thick nail. I politely asked her to fix the nail and she rolled her eyes and YELLED at me for having nails that were too long. Needless to say- I texted every single one of my friends that goes to True Nails and asked them never to return. I have never been met with such disrespect and will no longer support this business.
