This is an update to my 5-star review on 7/28/2018. I stopped seeing Dr. G for some time because of financial constraints. During that break, my health went down the tubes. I even ended up in the hospital with Sepsis and another infection. I feel confident that if I had not stopped seeing him for a while that I would not have ended up in the hospital. I recently started seeing him again for some pretty serious gut issues, and I am already starting to feel better by following what he told me to do! Both of my adult boys and my daughter-in-law also go to Dr. G. They report that he is the only doctor they have been to who actually cares about them and who "listens" to their issues. If you are having any health issues or are just not feeling like yourself, I highly recommend Dr. G. In my opinion, you'll ask yourself what took you so long. Below is my 2018 review: Dr. G is an amazing doctor. My entire family goes to him even though he is not on our insurance. He is very non-judgmental and easy to talk to. You can be honest with him because he does not judge you; instead, he works with you to make you feel your best and stay healthy. I also love that there's a doctor my kids trust and respect as this gives me peace of mind. He talks to you and learns about your life style, medical history, etc. (along with comprehensive blood work) before putting a plan into place. I had depression, felt overwhelmed by life in general, and had hot flashes. He had me do blood work for things my primary doctor overlooks and found why I was feeling so poorly. Within 2 days of following his advice and taking Rxs, I felt like a new person. I've been going to him ever since (about 6 years now). I had a lipo with doctor G couple years ago and I had a terrible experience with uneven skin and scars. I waited to see if this will improved but nothing works. Creams, massages etc. I went back to see him and he said that he will inject those areas with a fat burn solution. Well, nothing happened. I went to a surgeon and he told me that he removed too much fat from my stomach. BAD lipo!! I am not able to put a bikini because I feel embarrassed. Now if I want to fix it. Dr. G is completely unlike every other doctor I've been to. He takes time with you to address the fundamentals of good health, rather than just addressing symptoms. Most doctors are in and out in 10 minutes and give you a bandaid solution in the form of a pill, but Doctor G. will spend an hour talking with you if need be, because he genuinely cares. He's all about health, not profit. Preventative medicine, not reactionary pill-pushing which only treats the symptoms and not the cause. Once you see him for the first time you'll never see another general practitioner again; you'll see. He's also very generous and a genuinely good person. I am giving my most recent rating a 2 due to issues that strictly concern billing. I still think that Atlantis is 5 in terms of everything else. I have been a customer on and off since 2009. I recently decided to do the protocol again, as I hadn't done it in over two years and wanted to get a handle on my weight and health. I started last week and not only did I pay the required $350 deposit, I paid an extra $150 towards the $725 fee. I am very money conscious and had a plan laid out for how I was going to get the remaining $225 paid off over the course of the remaining 6 weeks of the protocol. In the past the office has allowed you to pay as you go in increments of your choosing as long as the balance was paid in full by the end of the protocol. Today I went in for my first appointment after only being on the protocol for a week and at the conclusion of my appointment the woman who sits up front informed me that I am supposed to pay $150 per visit! Appointments are scheduled on a weekly basis, I get paid BIWEEKLY, $150 a week does not work for me. What annoys me most is that at no time during my initial visit was I informed of any policy change concerning how billing is handled now. Furthermore, since I made a $500 deposit, when only $350 was required, the extra $150 could have been applied to this weeks visit. I am highly annoyed because the woman who informed me of the new billing procedure is the same woman who took my $500 deposit last week. At no time did she make me aware of the policy changes during that transaction. I'm not sure of her name, but she is heavy set and looks to be in her mid to late 20's. She "allowed" me to skip this payment since I wasn't aware of the changes ( how can I be aware of something I wasn't told ??), but starting next week I have to pay $150 until the balance is paid in full. This throws a major monkey wrench in my finances. I have my bills mapped out down to a science, which is the reason I put down significantly more then I had to. Annoyed.com read more

I live in Northern Virginia and have made the trip up to see Dr. Gonzalez and his staff for the past five years. My husband had been going to him for years prior and told me that Dr. G would change the way I see doctors. He was absolutely right. Dr. G actually treats the cause of issues not just prescribing medication to cover them. Why was I 27 years old with no sex drive? Instead of just thinking it's normal Dr. G walked me through my blood work and explained what each test actually does rather than just saying everything's fine. He is sincere and treats the patients as actual people instead of just a body to get through the appointment and out the door. I have been driving from Va. to see Dr. G for 10 years, He is absolutely a wonderful, caring and very knowledgeable doctor at all things he does. He comes from a background of emergency surgeries for our valued troops. This practice came to my business for a botox party. Not only did it take forever but I personally provided drink and snacks for the party (thank god because some people were waiting over and hour to be seen. Dr. g was very nice but his wife was trying to upsell each client while they were waiting which made me uncomfortable (she isn't an RN or an MD). Not one person that received botox saw any results and not only did this practice refuse to give refunds, they demanded my DC clients to drive to MD to fix it "for free" as they acted as though they did my clients a favor. Ultimately, Dr.G told one of my clients that they had an issue with the saline (completely admitting to fault) however they still want all of us to travel. I hadn't even heard of this issue until one of my clients told me - I was also an unhappy client but I guess did not deserve that information. I highly recommend finding a more honest facility who actually takes responsibility when something on their end goes wrong. Never will recommend this practice in the future. read more

I had Smart Lipo on my abdomen, arms, and side. The doctor suggested contouring would make my shape less straight and more like a violin or hourglass. My arms were flabby because I had lymph node removal from breast cancer surgery. The doctor ruined my figure. My shape is uneven now. He burned my skin on my abdomen, and now I have a 5 inch scar on one side and a two-inch scar on the other side of my abdomen. In addition, my abdomen and arms are still lumpy even though I followed the directions and massaged them. I have used scar treatment cream and oils to help improve the look of my skin, but nothing has worked. I feel so much worse about the way I look now that I don't even want my husband to see my abdomen, and I hate touching the scars. I can't afford any more treatment, so I am stuck with this huge mistake. read more

After a less-than-positive first experience, I was contacted by Natalia, a patient care coordinator, who had read my Yelp review. She was extremely apologetic, and offered me a complimentary microdermabrasion, as well as the opportunity to purchase a second one at the Groupon price if I desired. She asked me for details about the person I spoke to the first time in an effort to find out who was rude. I had my appointment today and it was very enjoyable. The person who did my microdermabrasion was nice and seemed very experienced, with very sure hand movements. She also explained the process well throughout. I was also taken within 5-10 minutes of arriving, which was nice because I think it is always important to respect people's time. All in all, I am glad I gave this place another try. Natalia was great by following up with me after the review and she even called and left a message later that night to see how my service went. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything else, which was also nice. I want to see how my skin looks in a few days (I was told it will look very refreshed in youthful in 3-4 days when the new layer grows back) and providing there are no problems there, I would definitely come back and would recommend giving Atlantis a try. read more

A really bad experience! I recently went for SmartLipo by Dr. Gonzalez and trust me when i say it has been the biggest mistake of my life. He is inexperienced in Lipo surgrey and very untrustworthy. I am now left with lumps that have disfigured my shape and disturbing scars, then had the nerve to tell me to move on with my life... To make a long story short, he ended up giving me my money back, but its not going to fix the permanent scars i now have. Advice: (1.) make sure your physician is board certified (2.) I wont recommend going to him for anything but if you do, be very careful. This was a consultation visit. The staff was very kind. The office was discrete, though I was not concerned regarding privacy; I could tell they were very conscious about it. The office and rooms were very neat and clean. Doctor Gonzalez was incredibly kind and funny, which helped to set me at ease. He also had a female member with him to assist and presumably make the patient (me) feel more comfortable. I did not select this doctor lightly, I am a RN, BSN. So I did take time to read reviews on yelp etc. and history. His background is what sold me. He is prior military and was the Chief of a trauma center in Iraq. Now for some, this might not mean a lot but having deployed to Iraq let me tell you that he was a very busy and knowledgable man to hold such a distinguished position. I know he had multiple casualties on a daily bases because I was their to see many of the trauma's occur. This set him apart from the other surgeons in the area because he chose to go into cosmetic surgery after having a wealth of knowledge running arguably the most intense job one can have in the most intense area. Now back to the reviews. The post on the keloids (Lea W.) did not give me a great deal of concern. One because it is a known risk which is detailed to you prior to the surgery and two the way in which his office chose to address it was more then accommodating. They have offered to rectify the scaring at no cost, which I would do if I were her. What did give me concern were the possibility of lumps that can occur. These lumps are fat pockets and many sites say that lymphatic massage helps. Dr. G did not lie or minimize the lumps, he stated that they occur and that it is usually the patient who notices them more then a onlooker. In the photos of his work he pointed out the "lumps" but I could only tell on two of the patients, the others did not seem discernible to me. The two patients had a lot of adipose (Fat) tissue removed and striae (stretch marks) was present prior to the sugary. After discussing the issue and reviewing the photos for a second time I felt it was worth the risk. This is cosmetic surgery but still surgery. Therefore, there is a risk. There is also a need for realistic expectations. I will post a before/ after picture so that others viewing yelp can see from start to finish. I will also say that I have not been ask or even told the doctor that I am writing this review. I am doing so for others like me who want an honest review from start to finish. read more

My experience with Dr. Gonzalez was nothing like the folks below. Not only has he given me the body I wanted, he was sweet, caring, and a true professional. I'm going back to him for many other things - not just what I originally went there for. Also, I'd like to say - no plastic surgeon is a miracle worker. Your body won't be 100% perfect - but you will be HAPPY with the results so long as you are realistic. For legitimacy, my initial appointment was introduced through Groupon/Livingsocial. I got a voucher for SmartLipo and after meeting with him, he really impressed me. I had the appointment about a month later - after preparing exactly the way he had me do, which helped me mentally and physically. Afterward, I felt a ton better, but wasn't happy with my overall weight. Dr. Gonzalez gave me a discount toward HcG treatment, which took care of the rest. I did that over the summer and have been able to keep the weight off. A huge relief to me. I'm going back soon for the next and final phase of my weight loss. Oh, and the staff at the front is great! A little prickly at times from a select few, but overall they are like friends. I can't express how much this meant to me - that he was so patient and caring (and funny!). Do your research on what doctor you think will work for you, but know that none of them will make you a super model. I previously went to another surgeon who left me literally bleeding and in horrible pain. This never happened with Dr. Gonzalez. When I first started going to Atlantis I was a medical mess. Having suffered an M.I. At age 38, I was on several medications that were not improving my health and instead giving me side affects. It took 18 months but Dr Gonzalez was able to put me in a better place and I am now off all my Heart meds! People ask me all the time. How did he do that? I have been going to Atlantis Medi Spa for about 5 years. I have gotten almost everything done. I had serious acne scars in my chest and neck. Dr. G was the only doctor that could successfully treat them. He treated my scars with microdermabrasion and chemical peels. The difference was night and day. His webinar is informative, and given me the confidence in his team to guide me through the next steps I must take to improve my health and weight. My only gripe with Atlantis is that they are unclear about the terms they allow for online coupons. I signed up for two vouchers through AmazonLocal for laser hair removal, three treatments each. Now I am told that I must use each coupon on two different body parts. As anyone doing laser hair removal knows, you need 4-6 treatments to complete the job, and so now I am stuck with a worthless second coupon -- I paid $100 for it, and I don't have a second body area that needs laser hair removal. It doesn't say that the treatments have to be on different body parts anywhere on the coupons, so I am pretty annoyed. If I had to do it again, I'd just buy the one coupon. I wouldn't mind paying full price for the remaining treatments if they had been clear about this policy in writing, which they aren't. That said, I have been happy with the aesthetician, Elizabeth. She definitely knows what she is doing and is always on time, very professional, makes you feel at ease. Very friendly personality and she is very knowledgable about laser treatment. The center has never canceled an appointment or made me wait. I book my treatments in the daytime, so it's not a busy rush time. read more

I went here in March of 2015 to have smartlipo. My experience was amazing. I had lipo on my lower abdomen and flanks. My results were superb. I wish I still had my old phone to upload pictures. Dr. G gave me the exact results that I was looking for. I am SO unhappy with Atlantis Med Spa right now. Almost a month ago now, I made an appointment with them for this past Tuesday at 4:45pm. They said that was the first appointment they had available in the early afternoon/evening time so I waited patiently for a month. The day of my appointment, I had requested to get off work 2 hours early so I could make it to the spa on time despite the rush hour. I had shaved the area the night before, applied the numbing cream at 3:45 and left work before 4. After I was stuck in terrible rush hour traffic for 30 minutes and was ALMOST at the spa, I got a call from them saying THAT THEY HAD TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT! Literally 10 mins before it was due to start. The lady on the phone apologized so I didn't get too upset but things only got worse. She said she was JUST now told to call me and cancel because the face machine was scheduled for maintenance (why couldn't someone let me know in advance?). I mean, how unprofessional is that! But that's not all!!! I told her I obviously did not want to wait another month before getting an appointment and she said that she would call me right back with possible timings when I could come in. I'm still waiting for her to call me back 5 days later. In fact I decided to call them the next day and left them a message. I requested that someone please call me back with an appointment time, but like I said NO CALLBACK YET. I am extremely displeased with their service. My visit with Atlantis Medical was so disheartening and frustrating in that I paid for the sculpsure in advance and was really excited. I understand that I am not a size 2 but I am a size 10 and have gained a little weight around the middle lately. I work out and just started this weight gain over a year ago. Due to my sister having spent money with Atlantis on Sculpsure she recommended it. I paid for I believe 2 sessions in advance due to a special and when I got there I must say the sculpsure was never mentioned they immediately went into me needing a physical that my doctor wasn't probably checking all the things in my blood that needed checking. . Now granted he was informative in that information and enlightened me on things to look for in a complete blood test. He wrote me up a plan for liposuction (which I am very scared of) then he recommended a vampire face lift. I was 54 at the time and maybe I have some softening of the skin but I was not there for my face and you can look at this face and see if I need a facelift at this time. Nevertheless he was professional so I asked them about my refund and they said in a few days. Well they did not have to wait a few days for my complete payment and I called them back to express how they made me feel really disheartened and they were like okay it was not our intention but you were not a candidate for sculpsure or it would have costs me as much as the liposuction which was quicker. Maybe if they would have gave me the reasons and offered discussions with me on options instead of me seeing the treatment after the doctor left and walked out then I met with an admin who went over the option of lip. I was going to Atlantis for HRT. I was taking HCG, testosterone and anastrozole. The Doctor called in prescription for the testosterone and anastrozole at my pharmacy but would not allow me to get the HCG on my own. The doctor would make me purchase the HCG directly from him. After I did some research I found out that you can purchase the HCG for about $80.00 to $100.00 per 10,000 IU. At Atlantis I was being charged $25.00 per 300 IU. That is a $700.00 profit on every 10,000 IU. I questioned this an ask for him to write me a script and he agreed at first but then after a couple days the nurse called me and said it was ready to be picked up when a ask how much it would be he gave me the same price again. I told him that the Doctor agrees to give a prescription and that I was not going to pay the mark up on the item. He responded with that Atlantis charges $25.00 to cover the calls to the doctor on follow ups, which is not true because I still get charged $25.00 for phone and $100.00 for an office visit. I asked them if it was fair that they make you buy it from them and he replied you can go to another doctor if you choose too. Very disappointed at how they prefer to rip people off and force you to pay 1000% markup on the HCG. read more
