Despite them having handled a move earlier in the day, the crew came ready to rock and easily handled my second floor apartment move to a house with some quirky stairs and hallways. I've used Trosa once before and they did an amazing job (6 years ago). So obviously, it made sense to use them again. I wanted to get a quote for just moving a couple pieces of furniture that I was giving away to family who lives 3 hours away. So I reached out via the Google request form they have on their website to get a quote started. I heard back from them 2 weeks later via email. I'm not sure if it's normal to have such a delayed response. Not sure if they're waiting to respond closer to the requested move date but that seems a bit weird for scheduling purposes. Since I didn't hear from them in a timely manner, I went ahead and got help elsewhere. Then, I needed a quote for a full move. I decided to email them this time instead of using the Google form to see if I would get a faster response. They did email me back the next day and said I needed to give them a call so they could get more info for the quote. When I called, they transferred me to the moving department and the lady was just not that friendly and a little rude, in my opinion. She was ready to schedule the appointment but I told her I just wanted to get a quote first and check that they actually had availability on a certain day. She needed to know exactly everything that I needed to move over the phone or offered to send me an inventory form to fill out. I asked her to email the inventory form as it's hard to just name every single thing I want moved. I was expecting to see the inventory form in my email right after the call but she never sent it. After that sort of unpleasant phone call, it just made me not want to use their services. So I got a quote from a different moving company (within a few hours). What a disappointment. They should work on their customer service skills if they want to get new business which it doesn't seem like they care about. read more

The movers came to our old place at 1pm and left our new place by 5:30. They worked hard and fast and tried their best to keep everything safe too. We appreciated their friendliness and commitment to safely wearing masks while doing hard work too. TROSA Moving came to us via a friend's recommendation and they did NOT disappoint! Jason and his pickup crew arrived in time, were incredibly professional and made sure to ask questions along the way if needed. We ordered the crew pizza and salad for lunch, and they completed a pack up of 2,400sqft in 6 hours (including the lunch break!) Day two, the load+move was led by Brandon and his team was on fire. We had an entire truck loaded up by lunch (we again treated them to pizza for working so hard), and after the rest of items in truck two went to our new home in a caravan. They reassembled and set up all of our furniture exactly where we asked, took extra care with our appliances and were overall such a nice group of men. We don't plan to move anytime soon, but you get amazing service at a great price for going completely turnkey // hands off. When in doubt, go with TROSA! read more

My name is Sandee Harris. I use Cameron V. for my profile. I realize when Jeff tried reaching me with this name, there was no record. This is the reason. I stand by my feeling that the one mover who was slimy and overly friendly made me suspicious when my jewelry, which I still haven't found, went missing. I reflect on it and I'm pissed. I imagine that most people who move often prepare perhaps, knowing that they should put their jewelry and valuables in a safe. I haven't moved often so put my jewelry in a suitcase. Just three pieces are missing -- still after almost three years I haven't found them. It wasn't expensive but it had great sentimental value, my grandmother gave me one of the rings, and my cousin made the other one. Both of them are silver. One had missing turquoise pieces. The pearl necklace was real, copper colored, and only cost around $65 but it was classy. I wondered what happened in that period when the movers took lunch before bring my stuff to my new place. Jeff, please reach out to me. The move took place in at the end of June 2021. As of now, I WILL NEVER use Trosa again. It's a shame because you don't want to judge these movers based on their past but it's hard not to wonder. read more

Faced with a rather sudden move, we chose TROSA based on the reviews and we could not have been more pleased with our experience from beginning to end. Everyone we dealt with, both on the phone and in person were professional and efficient. This is a well-oiled-moving-machine-operation that moved our belongings carefully and quickly, so as to save us time and money. Not only are we happy to report that they delivered well UNDER the quoted estimate, but they even came back a few days later and fixed a small area on our stairway wall that had been just slightly damaged due to an almost impossible situation with a large dresser and a curved stairway. These guys performed miracles and we couldn't be more pleased! Note: They are not allowed to accept cash tips, but it is okay to keep them fed and refreshed. We had coffee and donuts for them at the old house, and soft drinks and pizza at the new. All were hits and they thanked us for "the hospitality". They have a thrift store that accepts donation, and it's always okay to donate to TROSA itself. Not only okay, but a really really good thing, because what they're doing with this substance abuse program is phenomenal. HIGHLY recommend! read more

We're familiar with the good work that TROSA does to rehabilitate individuals with addiction issues and have bought our Christmas trees from them for years. When it came time to relocate within Durham, we sought out their moving services because we'd seen so many other people use them. Due to COVID protocols, they did a video stream with us to see what we needed moving. They gave us a reasonable estimate and we booked a window of time with them. Our move was a little bit unusual in that we asked them to first move the washer and dryer from our new house to our old one, and then move our appliances, furniture, boxes, etc., to our new house. They were on time and efficient -- the crew leader seemed to direct each individual to their assigned tasks. They wrapped our furniture in huge saran wrap, and also removed our front door so they could get big, heavy stuff out. When they were done, the cost was actually less than the estimate. My wife gave a tip to their crew leader, and he wrote us a receipt that included the tip as a tax-deductible donation to them. Not everything was perfect -- we did find a scratch on our hutch -- but all in all, we were satisfied with the job they did and they price. read more

Moving into a new home with your sweetheart on Valentine's Day sound romantic? Turns out it's not. You spend the day sorting through boxes, are forced to order in because you can't find a matching outfit, and pass out dog-tired around midnight. But thank goodness we didn't try to do it all by ourselves! Given the glowing reviews here and from our realtor -- and our desire to support local biz and a Durham cause -- we hired Trosa to handle the schlepping of some of our larger pieces of furniture: namely, a piano, our bedroom suite, a bulky sofa-couch, and a gi-normous refrigerator. The two gents who came to give the quote were very polite and thorough. As were the guys who came to handle the move. They were actually ahead of schedule on arrival (and didn't even charge us for the extra time!). They wrapped most things up before transporting, and were great with communicating with one another to make sure heavy objects weren't in danger of hitting any walls, etc. The one item they didn't wrap was the fridge. This is my husband's second-most prized possession (with the BMW being the first, and me being third). He'd suggested they protect it so the stainless steel face didn't get scratched. They did drape a blanket over it for the move out; but the move in proved to be more difficult due to a narrower door. The poor guys had to take all three doors off of the refrigerator to squeeze the thing through -- it must have been during this tight squeeze that the 2-foot long scratch (ulp) happened. The only other bumps and bruises were some paint scratched off of our banister (the stairway has a tight corner at the bottom that made it tough to move large objects up), and about a foot of blemished hardwood floor where the wheels from our fridge left an impression. The guys were all very nice and apologetic about the mistakes, and we of course were able to file a claim. Trosa HQ even called us the same day to address it. I really liked the folks we worked with, and I like what this NPO is about. Even your tips are tax deductible! They even finished ahead of the estimated time, saving us money. So I feel bad leaving only three stars. But as I was unpacking I noticed that two of my smaller, miscellaneous items were left on board the truck. I guess it's partially my fault for not having noticed before (but it's hard to keep track of all your stuff!). When I realized it, I called Trosa; it was after-hours, but my hope is that they'll be able to recover my goods asap. Verdict: Recommended. Friendly folks, efficient, and for a good cause. As with all moves, mistakes can happen. If you especially value a particular item, communicate it to the team. And keep track of all your goods to make sure you don't accidentally leave something on board as I did! read more

We had to move suddenly in 2015 and it was an unqualified disaster- the mover we had to hire, since it was summer and everyone was booked, left me feeling pretty gun-shy about moving companies. This time, we were able to book Trosa because it was January and we had over 30 days notice to book. The process to get things estimated was a little clunky but we got it sorted. The day of the move the gentlemen were on time, were professional, and extremely hard workers. They were super careful with out items and worked in a timely manner. We were done in less than 3hrs and came in about $50 under the estimate. If I move again in the Triangle area, I will definitely avail myself of their services. We're moving to Durham, and I'm looking for a storage company to keep our stuff while we find our new house. I called Trosa based on the extraordinarily good ratings on Yelp. One email (no response), two phone calls later, I can't find anyone to talk to. The people who answered the phone sounded annoyed, starting with "hello." The first time I was transferred and left a message. When no one called me back by the next day, I called again and spoke with another cranky person who asked if I wanted to store my things with Trosa. This confused me because I was calling Trosa. She said she would have someone call me back, but I'm not hopeful. read more

We have used a couple of different moving companies in the area over the years, but WOW Trosa was the best by far! We already had all of our stuff boxed up and the furniture shrink wrapped, so I can't attest to their quality in those areas. However, I was assigned a team of five men to move my 1,600 square foot two-bedroom townhome. They estimated it would take three hours and they finished in 2.75 hours. All of my stuff was expertly cared for, and nothing was broken or damaged. Would highly recommend! Note: you are not allowed to tip the workers. Instead, I provided free doughnuts (they arrived at 8am) and extra water with ice. read more

I used TROSA movers 2 years in a row, and they were great! They are fast and careful with your stuff. The crew leaders are organized and excellent at their jobs. These guys know how to professionally load a moving truck. And, by using TROSA, you get to help people who have been through struggles but are working their way out of it. The ONLY bad thing is that they no longer do moves out of state! I really wanted to use them for my cross-country move but unfortunately they were not able to help. Note: it's against TROSA rules for them to accept snacks or beverages if you offer them. I, however, have my own rules - always provide Gatorade and a snack to movers! When you explain it that way, the crew leader will make the call about whether to bend the rules. Those guys work hard and they deserve it!! read more

We were doing a local move from Raleigh to Cary and needed some movers for furniture and boxes. We weren't too happy with the company we used a couple years ago so we decided to try something new and go with Trosa. This was the smoothest move I've ever had. The guys were extremely professional and had great communication. They called 45 minutes before their arrival. When they got there, we did a quick walk through and everything was in the moving truck within an hour. When we got to the new place, we did another quick walk through and everything was unloaded by the 2 hour mark. I ended up paying less than the original estimate. Definitely recommend! read more

After my recent experience with TROSA Moving, I whole-heartedly would happily recommend TROSA to anyone without any hesitation. My husband and I did a move from Carrboro to Durham on the coldest day of the year after it snowed. We had scheduled multiple deliveries with different vendors for our move and all of the vendors except TROSA were disappointing day of the move. TROSA by far exceeded our expectations. They communicated clearly and worked both efficiently and professionally. The gentlemen that showed up to pack up our apartment and move us into our new place were meticulously careful which I greatly appreciated. They amazed me with how quickly they were able to get everything done and with such a great attitude at the same time. Our roommate used Trosa twice in the past and they were awesome for him. So when we had to move, we of course gave them a call. They were very friendly and professional. The walkthrough was quick as well. When move day came around, they were a bit late, but called to let us know, and it was only 15min so it wasn't a bother or big deal at all. They're so fast! They wrapped everything extremely well, took great caution with my Grandmothers large mirror (which is large, heavy and awkwardly shaped) and got everything moved in and set up for us. Carried the washer & dryer like it was nothing! Haha Will DEFINITELY recommend them to anyone who needs to move. Grew up in the military. Moved every 3-5 years and have moved many times. TROSA moved a full 10x30' storage unit (3 bedroom home with single car garage, full basement and shed) to a 3 bedroom townhome using 6 guys and 2 trucks in 4 hours including 25min of travel time. Best crew I've ever worked with. Extremely respectful, courteous, careful with all my belongings and hustled to get the job done. They came in way under their estimate and their estimate was competitive with 2 other local mover estimates with high Yelp rankings. I noticed everything they did and it was appreciated. After Starbucks coffee and Orlando Bloom, moving may indeed be my least favorite thing in the world. So why have I moved three years in a row? (moving once=shame on you, moving twice=shame on me, moving thrice=maybe it's time to take a deeper look at things) Well, I don't know but I do know that hiring TROSA moving made this most recent relocation much more bearable (whereas watching a good portion of "Troy" will always be painful thanks to Mr. Bloom). We completed the over the phone estimate (very efficient!) and opted to have four guys help us move (given the fact that rates are hourly and four associates did not cost a great deal more than three associates). The TROSA residents that did our move were kind, courteous, and very professional. Plus they were super fast! Unlike some fellow Yelpers and other friends of mine that have used the service, I don't really own anything nice so I may not have been as concerned with my belongings as some others. I can say, however, that my crappy furniture was no more crappy after the move. In all seriousness, though, the movers were quite particular with wrapping and securing items to the highest degree. Like Stephanie B., I really hope that I never move again (but I inevitably will) but if I do move locally again, I would not hesitate to hire TROSA moving to help out! Helpful Tips: 1) The moving gents are undergoing rehabilitation via a community model at TROSA to target substance abuse difficulties. Thus, it is clearly not a good idea to offer a bottle of liquor as a thanks (not that any of the TROSA residents would accept it)---yup, I know someone who unknowingly did that (and was then politely educated) 2) Donations are tax deductible 3) The residents working for the moving company are actually not allowed to accept any sort of food or drink from the clients that they serve read more

After a fairly uneventful move, I had a few issues that needed to be resolved. Several days post-move, I received a customer satisfaction survey. I had a few not-so-glowing remarks to make and, since my wife and I are moving again in the not too distant future and were still considering TROSA, I spent a considerable amount of time mulling over my comments before completing the survey. Less than 24 hours post-survey completion, I received a call from TROSA. Not only did they want to make things right, they actually wanted to give me a 25% refund for the inconvenience experienced during the course of the move. Money aside, I was blown away by 1) the fact that they pay attention to the customer satisfaction surveys they receive 2) the speed at which they move 3) their willingness to make things right. We have used Trosa Moving twice - both moves were a success. We ended up using 4 guys instead of 2 like the first round. The 4 guy move was more efficient and far less work for me - and I like that. Some important notes off the top of my head: 1. The guys were on time - extremely important when you just want the whole process to go as quickly as possible 2. The guys were careful with my things - not a single thing broken - although there were a few scrapes on the walls, it's moving, it happens 3. The price is right - you get more than what you pay for and you're helping a local charity that serves a great cause I've moved a lot in my lifetime, mostly with my parents. Even as a kid I always hated it, it's stressful. Trosa is one of the better experiences and I love that it's a local company. read more

I've moved a lot. A LOT. TROSA is by far the very best moving company I have ever used. I don't have enough superlatives for them. Affordable, friendly, careful, kind--the movers even stopped their work to help me find and subsequently extract my cat from behind the fridge after she freaked out (and then I freaked out looking for her) as she is wont to do (because, y'know, cat). They even calmed me down after my near panic attack from losing said cat. I realize this isn't a very well-written review, but I promise you, TROSA will not disappoint you, even if you lack a cat. read more

Not only was my move done in three hours instead of all day, it cost me less than $350 and I helped a charity! Great Success! I think I had a very similar experience to Christina. I chose TROSA movers bc they are a great value and it would help support an organization doing important work in Durham. I was moving a 1 bedroom apartment within Durham and it took a little over 3 hours. The minimum is two hours (at $90/hour) so this was really affordable. The crew of three men showed up right on time and worked so hard I was very impressed. As a single woman, I had some male friends come help coordinate things with me which helped prevent any awkward moments. (I hate to think the worst of people but, strangely, I have been hit on by TROSA movers at the gas station before so I was a little wary.) No such problems with this crew. They were friendly and respectful. Like Christina, they did break one piece of furniture but it wasn't a big deal for me. It was an Ikea armoire and they broke the legs off by tilting its full weight onto two of them, which ripped those legs off. I then just had them take the other legs off and rested it on some 2x4s in my new place. However, I had some much more fragile furniture and I told them that it was fragile and they took much better care of it. None of the things I really cared about were broken. Plus, if you are worried, they go over all your insurance options beforehand. If my stuff was not all crap from Ikea, I would have bought some of the insurance ;) Despite the armoire leg thingy, I will use TROSA again and recommend it to my friends. I heard about Trosa from a friend. Nutshell: honest, long-term work for former substance abusers trying to stay clean. If you have a heart, you support this cause. They performed an in-town move, charging me $135/hour for three experienced movers including all equipment. Unfortunately for the workers, it was a 95-degree day and humid, but there was no surcharge for the sweat. The guys showed up on time, completed the entire move in about 2.5 hours: that includes load/transport/unload, including all assembly and disassembly. They broke nothing, lost nothing, and were conservative with the time estimate. The supervisor (Bobby) was professional and extremely courteous despite the heat. His workers (Johnny and Ashton) were efficient, hard-working and courteous. They worked without supervision and followed all special requests to a "T." I had a great experience with Trosa- it was painless, inexpensive and tax-deductible (the tip, anyway). I have been moved by big companies like Mayflower and Graebel in the past, and Trosa was not only cheaper, it was better. I'll certainly use them again next time I move. read more

In mid-May, I had TROSA come to move my stuff and put it in storage for the summer. I like TROSA, I think it's a great organization, so I wanted to use their services (and it helped that they have a good rep). But now I LOVE TROSA and wouldn't use another company ever. First of all, their rates are great for moving and for storage ($40/mo for a "crate"). My stuff took two crates and then I have a large couch that had to be stored separately ($10/mo). Not bad at all. Secondly, the movers were soooo great. I didn't realize that they wrap all of your furniture. So my tables, chairs, couches, and other random stuff got a nice padded wrapping to keep it safe. Wasn't expecting that. They were quick and efficient and very friendly. Thirdly, they care. I had a very sticky situation recently. I was in NY for a wedding (I'd driven there) and my purse was stolen with my car keys in it. I was stranded. Volvo told me they had to ship a new key from Sweden (uhhh ok). I was supposed to drive back to Boston the next day, so I was freaking out. It was a Friday at 3 pm. I called TROSA and told them the situation and asked them a HUGE favor. I knew exactly where my spare key was in my storage and asked them if they could find it and overnight it to my hotel. Which they did! Amazingly saved me. I was so grateful and really appreciated the extra effort. That's what you get from a local organization. U-Haul probably would have laughed at me. We had 4 guys come and move our furniture from one Triangle town to another - about a 20-minute drive. The planning was fine -- tho' there was mild concern when they called to confirm the day before and said "we'll see you at noon" - tho' we'd agreed they'd start moving at 8:30. In fact, they arrived around 8:15. The guys were very careful with our furniture, shrink-wrapping the couches, dressers, and file cabinet. They spent about 90 minutes loading, drove for 20 minutes, took a break, and spent another 60 minutes unloading. The price was very reasonable. Granted, we'd moved virtually all the boxes of clothes, books, and paintings ourselves. Still, I was delighted not to move heavy furniture and pleased that no damage was done. I hope never to move again -- but if I do, I will definitely hire these guys again. read more

Extremely professional, faster and better than expected. We had TROSA move us from a totally loaded 4-bedroom house in Cary to a 3-bedroom apartment in Durham. Much of our stuff wound up in storage at TROSA, which was a seamless experience. The guys packed all our stuff with an overabundance of caution but still managed to get the job done fast. The next day, they arrived early to load and move, and were done unloading at our new place a couple of hours early. It seems like they consistently get things done faster than they quote (probably helps that 7 dudes spilled out of the truck on moving day), and as a result my final payment was less than the estimate they quoted me. A month later, we haven't discovered any major problems or damage. As far as price, no other full-service moving company can come close to competing. And since they're a non-profit, your tips are tax deductible. Their storage prices are also unbeatable, though be prepared - the storage is a giant indoor warehouse of stacked shipping container style wooden crates, manned by a team of storage pros at all times who have to retrieve your vault from the stacks, kind of an elaborate process. That was a little surprising - you can't exactly pop in and casually look for a few items. I will say that, like mentioned in prior reviews, there is a varied amount of experience in the moving team members, with 1 or 2 clear veteran experts, several seasoned pros, and a couple of obvious newbies that seemed to be apprenticing. This didn't affect the performance of the crew at all, and it was clear that the new guys were getting careful on-the-job training and supervision. Bottom line: look here first for professional movers. Worth every penny. read more
