I am in the process of putting my home on the market and buying a new one. I needed packing for staging the home and for the eventual move. I received estimates from Chapel Hill Moving Company for packing in two stages. The packers arrived on time and were polite and friendly. They were at my home for three hours. The final charge for the initial packing (including materials) was extremely high. When I spoke with Ethan, the owner of the company, he was condescending and rude to me. It became evident to me that while the company provides estimates, the actual charges at the end of the job are at or beyond the high end. Interestingly, there are other reviews that also mention the high cost of Chapel Hill Moving Company. I will be using a different company for the second packing stage and for moving, while hoping that the packing was done professionally and carefully. I recommend that others use a different packing and moving company that is reliable, professional, and (as importantly) cost-effective. Moving is too expensive to overpay when the company knows it can get away with it. read more

We recently moved from one Chapel Hill location to another Chapel Hill location. Our move included a piano, as well as a whole houseful of furniture. Chapel Hill Moving Company was on schedule, careful with our belongings, and cooperative with our needs; and everything made it to our new home in good condition, in spite of the challenges created by a rainstorm that day. We worked with Ethan and his team on our move from Ohio to NC (they handled our NC unload). We were very pleased with them. That was about a year ago. We just bought a house and moved again and I reached out to Ethan right away. Again, they were fantastic. They are punctual, polite, clean and fast. We even had the same mover (Mike) both times. We are really happy with their work and highly recommend them. They do all sorts of moves too, while they did a house for us I know that they also do pianos and ficus trees among other things. I was really surprised at the cost because it's about double what I've paid in the three other states I've moved to but that is the going rate here in the Triangle so you may as well get what you pay for and go with the best. read more

I have made many, many moves in my life, so when my dad was making a short move I contacted a few places first. I chose Chapel Hill Moving Company. The were not the cheapest by any stretch, but their surprisingly stellar BBB information combined with their professionalism convinced me. I was not disappointed. They packed up an entire apartment, mostly of books, and delivered everything intact and very quickly even in 90 degree humid weather - and up three flights of stairs. CHMC is AWESOME. I've used them every time I moved - from CH to Cary to two places in Durham and then back to Cary. Everytime they've been on time, professional, and have had a great sense of humor - like when my cat refused to unwedge herself from my boxsprings. They've never caused damage to any of my items. These guys were clean cut, polite, friendly, and worked hard. Enough said. However, in my case, another moving company (Full Faith Movers) who were supposed to meet me at 7am, texted me the night before at midnight saying they couldn't make it. This was a full move with two truck loads of furniture to fill a 4 BR house.... needless to say, I was blown away.... reached out to several movers for last minute help and Chapel Hill Moving were the first to be available, same day at 1:15pm! Although their rates were a little more than the competition, the value they provided was worth every penny. Lastly, for what it's worth, if you can direct well, then 4 guys working at the same time was well worth it as the speed was cut in more than half, making the hourly rate worth it. The movers are professional and punctual, they treat every item and box with care, and I have never had any issues in all four moves with items being lost or broken. I used this company to move my daughter to Chapel Hill two years ago. We had them unload the truck and set up her apartment which was located up three flights. They were punctual, professional and a pleasure to work with. So when it came time to move her back to NY, without hesitation, I called them right away to make sure they were available on the dates we needed. Once again, I was completely satisfied with their not only their price but the quality of their work. They packed our truck for the long haul up to NYC and everything was completely in tact on our arrival. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing moving services in the area. Honestly, I was lucky to have selected them in the first place, but there was no luck involved the second time around. They are prompt, efficient and extremely responsive. I was surprised to see Chapel Hill Moving Company only has two reviews. I thought there would be many. I wasn't surprised, however, to see both reviews were positive. I couldn't agree more! Before making a decision about a moving company, we asked many people for recommendations and Chapel Hill Moving continually was mentioned as the best-- especially if you want to move a piano. Before making our final decision, we did get other estimates. Chapel Hill Moving Company's quote turned out to be very reasonable compared to others. Ethan and Steven (sorry if it is Stephen) showed up on the dot and got to work right away. They were very careful with all of our household items and they made moving a piano look extremely easy which just can't be so. These men are professional movers plus they are courteous and friendly. All of the furniture arrived safe and sound and was put exactly where we wanted. We will need to move more items in a short while and we will definitely call them again. We recently completed a Durham - Cary move with CHMC and it was excellent from start to finish. They did an in-person estimate, followed up quickly with email, and showed up on the day of the move on time, upbeat, organized and patient (our kitchen was in...disarray). Each of the movers was polite, cheerful, skilled and speedy. Ethan explained the billing clearly and treated his employees well. Moved from NY to Chapel Hill and needed movers to empty our two pods. Called Ethan and he was extremely helpful. Told us how long he thought it would take and he was spot on. We needed to do this in two days because we couldn't fit both pods in the driveway. Had to pay traveling fee for two days which is understandable but honestly for me, the two days made it easier. We got the first pod unpacked on Tuesday and the other pod unpacked Thursday. Gave us 1 1/2 days to get our first load organized before the next pod was unpacked. Josh, Chris and Parker worked extremely hard, were courteous and focused on what needed to be done. This is a very professional company. Patricia is great at communicating and setting things up, and the movers are professional, courteous, and efficient. I highly recommend them. We had 3 movers and they loaded up our 1200 sq ft home (including attic) in about 2 hours, and then unloaded everything into our new 2 story home in just under 2 hours, placing everything in the correct room, and even moving a couple things after we changed our minds about placement. We used CHMC to load our rental truck for a move from Carrboro to out-of-state. The entire experience was as good as we could have asked for. From the get-go, Patricia was helpful and patient as I coordinated the move from another state (with supervision from my wife and mother-in-law in Chapel Hill/Carrboro) that frequently caused me to call or e-mail CHMC and change plans. On the big day, the three movers showed up very early in their expected 2 hour window, made quick work of loading up our belongings at the first location, then unloaded and reloaded all that stuff plus a lot more at a second location. Ethan must be a master at Tetris, because he organized and stacked the truck in such a way that nothing was moved or damaged at the other end of the 6 hour drive, and they fit way, way more into the truck than I thought was possible. Moving companies in general have a reputation for shady business practices, but I have nothing bad to say about Chapel Hill Moving Company. Everything was timely and professional, and I'd definitely recommend them to others. read more
