Unprofessional, Dishonest, and Avoid at All Costs My experience with Athens Moving Experts Company has been nothing short of a nightmare. The movers showed up unprepared, caused delays, caused major damages-to include holes in the walls and damage to wood steps, and then tried to charge us extra for their own mistakes. When I raised the issue, Zach -- who claimed to be handling it -- lowballed the cost of damages and pushed an unverifiable "contractor" to do the work, despite me clearly stating I would not use just anyone without credentials. They have refused to refund the overage, ignored multiple requests for their insurance information, and the owner still has not responded. The lack of accountability, transparency, and professionalism is alarming. Zach states one thing and then changes to another. He clearly doesn't understand home ownership or business. I am now in the process of filing formal complaints against this company. If you value integrity, honesty, and peace of mind -- do not hire this Moving Company. read more

This is our second time using Athens Moving Experts. Ibrahim, Freddie, and Jarel helped us move furniture from one house to another 3 hours away. These three guys were so efficient, organized, strong, and nice. We had an antique grandfather clock that we removed the chimes and pendulum from. They bubble wrapped the chimes in blankets and secured safely in the truck. The treated all the furniture with the same care. Everything arrived safely and securely. They unwrapped the furniture on arrival and confirmed all was ok. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone in the area. read more

I was not impressed. They showed up a couple hours late and they smelled like pot. They were not very friendly, kinda rude. They didn't really care if they put stuff in the right room and if furniture was placed in the right location in each room. They refused to put my desk and bed together. I pressured them to put my bed together telling them I would be sleeping on the floor if they didn't. They reluctantly screwed the bed frame together and threw the mattress on top. They quickly bolted after that. They were in a rush to leave. No finally walk through to make sure I was happy with everything. The only good thing is they were cheap. I guess you get what you pay for--not much! Zach got in touch with me after reading my review and reimbursed me for my furniture assembly. He was extremely nice and professional. Very impressed! Pharaoh and his crew just left and I had to leave a review before I get caught up with the rest of my move. I ordered a Pod to store my belongings while my new home is being built so I made an appointment with Athens. The team was extremely professional and made sure to take great care of the items they were moving. The furniture was wrapped, no marks on the walls or any damage to the house. They made it look easy. I know it's not or I would have done it myself. Maybe the most impressive part of the experience is the way Pharaoh thoughtfully packed the pod. His Tetris skills were on point and packed items to prevent shifting or damage during transport. I will be requesting this crew in a couple of months to move into the new home. read more

Do.Not.Hire.Them. This review is long overdue. I was afraid to write it previously because they knew where I lived. I moved to Cary in July about 5 years ago. If I can save one person from a rotten experience, that is the purpose of this review. I do not think the good reviews are necessarily true. Be that as it may, yes, it was July. Hot. But we are nice, kind people. (Seniors.) The mover was surly, angry, rude, disrespectful and was throwing my belongs around. Literally. When I asked him not to stack things so high on the dolly because they would fall over on to the ground (and they did fall over), he just got meaner and meaner. The move into our new home was a disappointing disaster in every way. One of the movers was somewhat civil, but it did not compensate for the awfulness, cruel and destructive behavior of the other mover. Then they pretty much INSISTED on a tip! Do yourself a favor and hire other movers. Just saying. read more

All workers were courteous and polite. They wrapped all furniture and cared for all items as if it was their own.

Athens did a wonderful job. Although one of the movers unexpectedly had to call out, they found a replacement quickly, & a very nice man filled in even though it was his day off! They protected our floors during the move & wrapped our furniture very well. We had no dings or scuffs on our freshly painted walls, which I appreciated. All three men were patient & kind with me, when I discovered some furniture placement wasn't quite right, & they happily moved it around for me. Athens Moving Experts where very unprofessional. My husband and I moved from Orcutt, California to Garner, North Carolina. While the two African American, men, the American man and the one Russian man unloaded my belongings out of the three Pod Containers. They scratched three of my wooden lamps which were wrapped in bubble wrape and bent the wheel frame that my filling cabinet was sitting in while being shipped in the pods. The frame was straight and was not bent before it came out of the storage pod. I also caught the Russian man smoking while on my property when he was suppose to be moving my property. The movers left my property in the wrong rooms when it was clearly marked where it should be left. I spent several days trying find my belongs because they weren't placed where we told the men or where they were marked. I emailed and made claims for over three months to have my belongs replaced or paid for, but the claims agent Zack was rude with me and only offered me $25 for all of the items. He told me that the only thing his company could do was pay me $25 dollars. I ended up having to pay $60 to replace my wheel frame for my filing cabinet. My husband and I urge anyone who is thinking of going with this company to stop before using them to move there belongs!! read more

WOW! Shawn and Josh...these guys literally SAVED ME! People of the internet, take a seat, because I have a little story to tell about Athens Moving Experts. So, I was doing a long-distance move, and these two gentlemen showed up promptly at the appointed time, ready to go, to move a 2-bedroom apartment. They came in, surveyed the situation, and got to work. These two men gathered, sorted, lifted (I swear these guys are ready for the next Marvel movie or something) and I watched in awe. It was a day in July in North Carolina, so it was also ridiculously hot. None of it stopped these guys. They definitely don't get enough credit for just *how* they pack and load your belongings. There's a science to this, because I had MANY very delicate and weirdly shaped items, and they were ALL loaded carefully and with precision. Not only that, every step of the way, Shawn and Josh were extremely courteous and professional. When we got closer to my destination, I received a text letting me know where they were, which was a relief, as the sky got really dark and ominous. Thankfully, the rain held off, but an INSANE traffic jam (which did happen)? Didn't phase them. Weird parking to unload my stuff? Also no trouble for these guys. I'm pretty sure 'patience of a Saint' is in the job description. They proceeded to unload all my stupidly delicate things, and just as before, I watched in awe as they moved like men on a mission. People, I cannot tell you how much Shawn and Josh and Athens Moving Experts made this such a, dare I say, pleasant move! Moving is a hard and freak out worthy experience, and this entire process, from start to finish, was absolutely expert (I mean, it's in their name) and completely and unbelievably stress-free. Oh, and one final note...TIP YOUR MOVERS! Tip them a LOT! The work they do is incredibly important, so tip these guys like your life depends on it. Because, well, it kind of does. You know you want your priceless comics collection and all your Funko Pops to show up unscathed. Admit it. So, what I'm saying is, if you want your move to go off without a hitch? I researched over 15 local moving companies, read through lots of Yelp reviews, and spoke on the phone with 5 of companies, including Athens Moving Experts. I am SOOOO glad that we hired Athens Moving Experts for our move from Cary to Apex, including 2 heavy items - massage chair (294 lbs) and safe (200 lbs). We were extremely happy with their services and positive attitudes...all while moving in 85+ degree weather. We hired them to do both pack and move. Extremely reasonable rates, including only charging you per moving box used, and they also were willing to use the new moving boxes that I had leftover from pre-packing items before their pack day. Our team included: Pack day (Sunday): Shawn, Jesse, Pridhvi Move day (Tuesday): Shawn, Jesse, Jalen, Khalil, Will Pack day - Since we were going to stay with my parents for several days, we had the team go ahead and disassemble and wrap all the big furniture, artwork, beds, etc. We had them pack all the kitchen dishes, cups, wine classes, etc. The guys were very polite and appreciative of the cold Gatorade and Jimmy John lunches we provided. It took the team of 3 guys just under 6 hours to pack 35 boxes and wrap furniture. Move day - They brought two trucks and it was completely full. They moved everything including a massage chair, safe, washer & dryer, two refrigerators, and over 100+ boxes. The team all had smiles and were whistling / singing throughout the day...which made us appreciate them even more given the 85+ degree heat. It took the team of 5 guys about 8 hours to load and unload all the furniture and boxes. (*Note - They did take a lunch break after they finished loading all our items before they went to our new location to unload. They didn't charge me for the lunch break...but they did charge for the drive time.) Items broken or damaged - There was ONLY two items that broke in the ENTIRE pack and move of 50+ boxes, furniture, artwork, and appliances and a couple scratches / scuff marks on walls: 1. Small salad bowl (out of set of 6) 2. Kid's bike kickstand - was pushed in the wrong direction so kickstand no longer works 3. Stairway - a couple scratches and scuff marks from bulky furniture that had to be turned going upstairs All in all..having only two broken items and scratches / scuff marks was pretty great. These were pretty minor given everything the team had to do for packing and moving. We filed a claim and got a reimbursement check within a week, which was pretty fair. If you've been researching local movers...you will want to hire Athens Moving Experts. Their rates were reasonable / comparable to other companies...but their work ethic and positive attitudes are what really made the difference for us. read more

Dionte and Monte were friendly and personable, and while I didn't have much for them to move to begin with, they got the job done in under two hours. All moves are hard and this one was especially so - 93% humidity and terrible heat, a LONG walk to the truck, horrendous stairs, and a torrential downpour to boot. These guys were on time, friendly snd professional. I had my Karen moment towards the end because I was so tired and they took it in stride and really outperformed. The crew had every reason to complain but didn't. Amazed at the level of professional packing (everything wrapped including). Nothing broke; nothing got lost. Thanks guys! My father used Athens Moving Experts twice and needed a third move that we had to coordinate for him from his cottage in Cary NC to Lexington NC with a stop in Greensboro. I sent Athens a message on their website and they called the next day and determined what we needed moved from each room. They accommodated our schedule and sent us a follow up email for any additional items. Everyone was courteous and professional. Yoseph and Kevan arrived on time and were friendly and professional and got right to work. We met them again in Greensboro for the delivery and they placed our furniture and items in the rooms where we wanted them and made sure everything was to our liking. They continued on to Lexington for another drop off and everything went well. Athens Moving Experts says it all. They are truly experts at what they do. My moving guys, Yoseph and Yahya showed up early and gave me a call right away to check-in. They were both pure class, friendly, and polite. I had a good amount to move but not a lot of furniture. It took them both less than an hour to wrap and load my stuff onto their truck. I was blown away by how quick they were able to tackle the loading process. This would've taken me half a day to do. My apartment was on the 2nd floor and with the elevator, it took another 40 minutes to unload my stuff. They never took a break or stopped working which was mind-blowing. Are these guys human? Their positive energy and attitude were​ definitely appreciated. especially under high pressure during a move. The price was fair for the service. This whole move would've at least taken me 2-3 days. We called them a day before to move a three bedroom from house to house in Raleigh. They had really good prices for a full service moving company. They'll pack up everything and wrap it and help you break things down. We opted not to have them do all that and just showed them things to move. They still decided to take the few extra moments to wrap here and there which really made a difference. The movers were younger college age guys (shout out to Toma & Darious!) and they were really professional and nice. I called them because they had the best reviews and they did not disappoint. I contracted Athens at $195/hour to handle my weekday move from Wake Forest area to Durham. The final cost of this 4-hour move was approximately $840. On the day of the move, the team arrived 1-hour late with no explanation. Throughout the move, the team behaved improperly, complained and didn't work efficiently. There was horseplay, loud singing, personal phone calls, etc. They also didn't arrive with the promised equipment like lifting straps and dollies to expedite the move; they also did not properly wrap or load my belongings to minimize damage. It became clear that they were not skilled movers. Without my consent, they used my noncommercial hand truck to move heavy items liked a king-sized mattress that it was not designed to. After the move, I followed with management/claims. I provided a detailed account of the experience and shared photos of damaged items. They handled our items with the utmost care and moved them into the right rooms in less than 2.5 hours. They moved our items to and from a 3rd floor unit, so this move was a huge challenge. These guys are so good! We moved from Wake Forest to Durham and they were very much on top of it. It was very easy to call and get a quote. Three men arrived and wrapped my furniture with care. Alex, Dionte, and Kyle were very thorough. I lived in a second floor apartment and they had to use an elevator for most of my items. I was surprised that they loaded the elevator and then didn't promptly unload it once the elevator went down to the bottom floor. Instead, my items rode up and down several times with different people getting on the elevator but not the movers. Nothing was damaged but I was surprised by this method of moving things. read more

My moving crew was great! They called me when they were on their way, took good care of my furniture when packing up and transporting to and from, and were fast and efficient. They're better than many other companies I've used in the past (though a little pricier). The only reason I didn't give them a full five stars is because one of the movers never wore a mask, and another took his off when the job was done but they were still in my apartment. I kept mine on the entire time, but I wish they could've worn theirs when they were in my apartment. Other than that, I'd recommend their services! read more

Employees did not comply with the move out instructions given by the staff. They propped open our main front entrance to move. I explained this was not the procedure and they argued and stated they were not going to move. My compromise was to allow 30 mins. They exceeded, that by nearly 2 hrs. I would have even allowed that but the workers played loud music while going back and forth the entire time. I'm all for making the move process easier but you need to speak with the office site going forward. Not happy with the team and how they communicated with the staff. Would love to have helped push this company with other Cortland communities but this will not be the case. read more

Edit: Thank you for your comment, Mike. I agree that there was a miscommunication and I dropped the ball on initially inquiring about your mask policy. For clarification, however, the 14 steps were outside, in an alleyway, to remove the piano from the first location. No reasonable person would demand mask wearing outside up 14 steps. The 6 steps were at the second location - my front stoop into my house. I asked that the masks be worn for that part of the move - into my house, and I was told no. It's a tough time and there are no right answers unfortunately. I understand your position - I am just giving a heads up to others who are interacting with the pandemic like I do. *** I recently bought a used piano and had Athens move it from the piano seller's house to mine. The 3 guys showed up at the first location right on time and worked efficiently. However, if you are concerned about covid transmission, you might want to first check with them on their mask-wearing practices. I was wearing a mask, but the lead walked right up to me for my signatures and I had to request that he first put on a mask since we would obviously be in close contact. He said he didn't know if he had one (!?), but he then found one in the truck and put it on, which was great. Then I asked if they would all please put on masks when they arrived at my house and entered with the piano, and he said that moving a piano is hard physical work and since wearing a mask would be a health risk (!?), they don't ask their guys to wear them. So I made sure to rush to the house before they got there to open up windows for cross breeze, but it was still way less than ideal. I also felt very guilty because the woman who I was getting the piano from -- at the first location -- is elderly and with a severe preexisting condition. I had to apologize for not first ensuring the piano movers I hired would wear masks. :( I hadn't thought to check on this before hiring Athens, because I had used Bellhop a few weeks prior for our move from our apartment into our new house. The apartment was a third floor walk up and we had tons of extremely heavy furniture - latex mattresses, very heavy armoires and desks, etc., and all three guys wore masks (or at least bandannas) for nearly 3 hours straight. So it didn't occur to me that piano movers wouldn't put masks on for the 5 minutes it takes to heft a piano up 6 front steps into someone's house. Again, everything else went fine. No surprise charges, fast work, no other issues. I just want to warn others who may be on the more cautious end of the spectrum, like I am. Call me Karen, but I just think that during an airborne pandemic, more care could be taken - especially when specifically requested. read more

We had an EXCELLENT experience with Athens Moving a week ago. We only needed some heavy furniture transported and moved into our new house (no boxes). But! Most of the furniture had to be moved between the second and third floor of our elevator-less townhome. Pharaoh and Cabe were our movers and they did an amazing job! They were SO quick and professional and extremely careful. Our stairs are tight and they didn't knick anything. There wasn't one scratch to any of our furniture or marks on our walls.
