This moving company came strongly recommended from two friends, but unfortunately, we did not share their experience.
Nick came out to do our estimate. He said their movers have been with them for a total of several decades. He said they are different than most companies, because they guarantee their delivery dates. He says he "normally over estimates his quotes to make customers happy", and that they're "RARELY more than 10% over" (quoted this from his e-mail).
The movers who packed our stuff showed up late; and didn't have the equipment on the truck. They broke the leg of an antique chest before it even got loaded, and they forgot to load a $100 lamp and a $60 tower fan, which my husband found after they left hiding behind a door where they put them. He flew out to Denver that night, so there was no way we could take them with us. So those items were lost and not reimbursed. Our delivery arrived a day and a half late. NUMEROUS boxes arrived completely smashed. Many boxes clearly marked "FRAGILE" with big, red stickers were at the bottom of the stacks, and squished under heavy boxes. The movers they contracted with in Denver to unload our shipment were appalled at how poorly our belongings were packed. And Nick's estimate was off by 25% or 1500 pounds!! To put another way, they estimated 35% under (he said he over-estimated by 10%), and we ended up paying more than $1000 more than they quoted! What was quoted as a $6300 move (car and motorcycle shipment and a 3 bedroom house from NC to CO) ended up costing $7313. Not small change here!
We took them up on their offer to arrange my car shipment as well. They sold it by saying they work with a trusted company regularly, and they would inspect and document any damages to the car beforehand to make sure it arrived in the same condition. Again, I am quoting Nick here. The first problem came when their office manager failed to meet me when I was dropping my car off at their location. He said he was running just a little late, and asked me to leave my keys in their mailbox. I was flying out of the country that day, so I left my luxury sedan parked outside of their gate. Well, the guy never bothered to come since he figured he was off the hook at that point, and they left my car out in a shady neighborhood (across from a junk yard) overnight, with the keys right next to it. We learned of this the next day when someone else called my husband to ask were the keys were. I was already halfway around the world by this point, without cell phone access, and I assumed my car was in good hands the day before. I was NOT pleased with this to start off! Then, of course the story goes, my car ended up being damaged during transport. A part from the vehicle being transported on top of my car fell off and smashed my car's panoramic sunroof. Glass got into the motor, so we're looking at over a $6500 repair job, since the tie straps on the tarp they used to cover my broken sunroof dented my side panels, and all the shattered glass scratched my paint job. Their trucker asked if we'd be willing to put it on our own insurance (um, no!), and then went back and forth for 3 weeks before finally just saying he wasn't going to pay anything, and stopped answering our calls. I was without a car for 6 weeks in my new city, and they wouldn't cover a rental car. Seriously! I finally was left without a choice and had to make a claim on my insurance, after all, who went after them for the full damages. We have been in contact with Doug, the president several times. He's still polite, but is not accepting responsibility, even though they were the ones who contracted with the company. My contract was with Truckin', and they failed to live up to the terms of our contact.
These guys sound nice when you first talk to them, but just like the other reviews state, that all changes when you have a problem. We paid them $232 to pack a large 4x6ft mirror and a couple other items. The mirror completely shattered. They also broke the leg off my husband's grandmother's antique hope chest before they even left our house in NC. Even though we paid for their most expensive insurance option, after the deductible, it's not worth it. Replacing the glass alone in that mirror was more expensive than what I originally paid for the mirror.
After all this, why am I giving them 2 stars? Because we actually received our stuff, which I hear sometimes doesn't happen. Hey, it could be worse! But I still would never use them again, and neither should you.
Update: 2 years and 10 months after our move, the president of the company contacted us to apologize for how the issues with our move was handled, and he provided monetary compensation to make amends (about half of what they under estimated our move to be, so we still came out behind). I hope they are better staffed now as he says, and that no one else will have to go through what we did. read more
