The food is excellent. Best Jamaican food I've had since leaving The Bronx. Yeah, the ladies aren't the most friendly, but cares, they can burn!!! read more

I went on 1/5/18 and first let me say the restaurant was freezing cold on the inside. It was warmer outside! And this week in Washington DC the temperature was between 12-20 Degrees!!!!! I tried to call ahead to place my order and no one picked up the phone. I ordered brown stew chicken and it taste like tomatoes with sugar. The chicken was over cooked and my rice and beans were hard and tasted like it wasn't fresh! I won't go back to this restaurant. The cashier that was handling the food had a dry spots on his face and nose! Total waste of money and time. read more

I am on my never-ending quest to find quality Caribbean food. So today I decided I would try this spot. First of all I was a little surprised that the area was a little sketchy being in Montgomery County. There was a lot of "activity" in the area so just watch your surroundings. Whenever I go into any Caribbean restaurant I prepare to feel like that episode of Seinfeld where they're ordering soup. Do not expect to feel overly welcomed just be ready to order. But being from New York I am used to that nor do I take offense. It's just how these places tend to be. So we ordered the oxtails and jerk chicken. As is usual with oxtails at Caribbean restaurants it's more bone and fat than anything. But the meat that was there was flavorful. The gravy was more liquidy than I preferred. And the jerk chicken was not that traditional grilled jerk chicken with brown sauce. It was that jerk chicken that comes with that reddish kind of hot sauce. I was not a fan. The cabbage was good. The veggie patties were also good. And of course they forgot to add the plantains for both meals. So in all I can't give more than three stars I almost want to give two and a half. But my standards are very high when it comes to Caribbean food. But I'll keep searching not sure I would try this one again. Maybe for the veggie patties. read more

This is on the mac n cheese. Not good. It was terrible. Never again. Literally just noodles and hard cheese on top. Totally blah!

Curry chicken is bangin! Brown stew and jerk are good, just not quite as delicious as the curry. Great portions as well. I drop by here at least once a week. read more

I got the curried goat and my wife got the jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was good but spices . She enjoyed it despite the heat. I loved the creaminess and the tenderness of the curried goat! And the plantains were great. The definitely satisfied my craving. It was worth the 25 minute drive. read more

A lil price but food is good my go to spot when I'm craving authentic Jamaican food! I usually get shrimp curry or oxtail food is good! Checked In yesterday btw read more

I am a complete fan of this wonderful establishment. I like the fact you can call a place phone orders for pick up. I need to try their other entree options. the price is very reasonable. they have plenty of dinning space even though i like to grab n' go. Never tried their Oxtail yet but i already know the gravy is on point because i ask fir it on my rice n peas when i order the jerk entree. Anyone in the upper silver spring area should come check this place out, they will not disappoint. read more

The food here is consistently good! I've never had a bad meal. The oxtail is ridiculous. The smells permeate my car so much that I can't even make it home. I have to pull over and eat it! Of all the Jamaican spots in the area-this is my favorite! Check out their lunch specials. read more

Probably the best jerk sauce I've tasted in a long time but will be HOT for many who aren't use to the flavor. As for the service and hospitality, it is TERRIBLE at this location. The few times that I've been there, you get a vibe that they're doing you a favor by serving you. The business exchange is "cold" and they don't seem thankful that you're spending money in their business. I'm NOT asking for fake cheesy smiles BUT show some gratitude. A simple "thank you, come again" goes a long way. Hire some workers that are hospitable because the current clerks definitely seem like they DON'T want to be there. Because the service is so "cold" I can only give them 3 stars. read more

Definitely Top 5 Jamaican spot in DMV! Their jerk chicken is to die for. The sauce is SPICY and SWEET. You don't need much, because of the spice. The sweetness of the sauce is SUPER addictive! I can't get enough of this food read more

Man! I lived in South Florida for 14 years where you could find amazing island restaurants of all types. Then I moved to New Orleans for 6 years where I couldn't find anything better than mediocre. Just moved here and found this gem! As authentic and tasty as it gets. Has the chicken curry (mild but very tasty). And the jerk chicken (serious kick). My boy got the ox tail and that was delicious as well. Definitely check this place out. Limited seating though. May want to take it to go. read more

I give this place 3 stars because sometimes they are good and sometimes they're just ok. I usually order the oxtail and it usually very flavorful and tender, but yesterday when I ordered the oxtail it was so tough. Its always seems to be hit or miss with this place. A lot of the times they are always out of stuff too. read more

I go here at least twice every two weeks lol. I recommend you order ahead if you want oxtail or curry goat because they sell out quickly!!! I love their curry goat/chicken and oxtail. I wasn't a fan of the jerk chicken and stewed chicken because the sauce they used. The gentleman are very kind, but with the women the service can be hit or miss read more

So I haven't written a review on yelp in a while, but this place definitely deserved me making a come back. I was craving some Jamaican food last night so i was told about this place. I came over to get some for the whole family. I got one large oxtail and three large jerk chickens, 2 coco bread and 2 beef patties. There was so much food, it actually lasted until today, which is definitely a good thing. All for a really amazing price to feed 9 people. The food was really flavorful. It also was really fresh, despite me going almost to closing time. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. Overall, I fell in love with the place and they definitely are going to be seeing me as a regular! read more

I absolutely love the food here. This is the only Caribbean spot to get food from in the Metro DC area. The portion sizes are amazing for the price. I really love the oxtails, and the curry chicken. The Coco bread is amazing. Please make sure to pick up either the beef or chicken patties when you get some food from here. The jerk chicken is really good but it is too spicy for my taste. It is one of their best selling food entrees though. In my opinion there is no other spot for Caribbean food that competes with this one. read more

Three ice waters later and my mouth is still on fire, but it was so worth it! Had the jerk chicken with rice and beans! Absolutely delicious! The food is very fresh! People are very friendly! read more

My wife and I have enjoyed a few different dishes from Tropical Eatery.when I first went I was astonished by how very clean and new everything was, the staff were very helpful and courteous and having gone back there about 6 times now since their opening nothing has changed. The food is delicious too, mostly I have ordered the curried goat with peas & rice and mixed vegetables, the portions are generous which is good because it brings up the only negative and that is price, everything is a bit steep, but again accounting for freshness, quality and portions the price point works out in the end. The chicken soup is incredible! On a cold Winter's day their piping hot chicken soup is just what the doctor ordered, it tastes like what Grandma's or Auntie's should taste like, again with a generous amount of chicken. All of Tropicana Eatery's food tastes homemade and I mean that in every complimentary way possible. Great food, great staff and clean, beautifully displayed deserts and drinks are refrigerated and behind glass doors and counter display. Tropicana Eatery is to this man a very welcomed addition to Briggs Chaney Plaza, I would love to think any new store or restaurant would follow Tropicana Eatery's example, especially their kind, courteous staff, clean modern look and quality of service & product provided. read more

This is THE best Jamiacan restaurant in the DC area!!! The people are very friendly there and the food is AMAZING!!! The jerk chicken is to die for! read more

I ran across this place one day while on lunch and I have to say its probably the best jamaican food I have tasted in a while, the jerk chicken is amazing, spicy and seasoned well. Great authentic environment and you can tell they cook the food the same way. When you get a chance try the beef patties too they are pretty good too. read more

Oh yea! I was looking for something quick near my house and came across this place on Yelp. I ordered the oxtails, a jerk chicken sandwich, and a side of plantains. Everything was GOOD! The sandwich of of course was spicy but was so good with the fresh coco bread. Yum. My favorite, oxtails, were tender and flavorful. It just needed more of the gravy for my rice. Next time, I'll know to ask. The plantains were good but tasted like they were cooked in old oil. I could tell but they were still pretty tasty and sweet the way I like. Will definitely go back to try the curry goat, which they were out of at this visit :( read more

If you're looking for authentic Caribbean food, then this is not the place to go. They ran out of goat and oxtail on a Saturday at 2pm. The curry was so bland. read more

The food is amazing and addictive. I have to restrain myself from going there every day because I live just down the street from there. The curry goat, jerk chicken, oxtail, patties, and curry chicken is off the hook. They put love in this food. read more

I've had dinner several times now and each time I've enjoyed my meal. I've had the curry chicken two times and its good but a little too salty. The jerk chicken is wonderful. Not too spicy, just right. Love it! read more

It's a great place, I live 2 mins away so I eat here often. The jerk chicken tastes perfect, especially with extra jerk sauce. I usually get the rice and peas, cabbage, and fried plantains on the side. The staff is chill, never had a bad experience here. I usually take my food to go but there's adequate seating inside. read more

Came for curried chicken, specified white meat & they told me that they don't have time to look for "specific" chicken. Used to love this place, they've lost me as a customer. read more

Very disappointed. I walked in by myself today (without my husband) and received very poor treatment. First, no acknowledgement whatsoever. I asked this guy who was pouring out the rice if he is going to take my order, he said no, I am busy. Then, they bring out this teenager who was busy on his phone, telling him to get the order. I asked if ox tails were done. He looked at the other guy and the other guy said, no, it will be another 15min. Their attitude was HORRIABLE. They were not the folks we saw before. I will not come back with that type of customer svc. There are many other jamaican joints in the dc area. Wake up, owner! read more

I really enjoyed the oxtail and the curry goat. Unlike some others who posted, I found the staff very friendly. I might suggest that maybe they didn't get the friendliest of service because the customer did something like wait to get to the front of the line before they thought about what they wanted to order. That type of behavior, especially on at a busy time, would annoy anyone. I would definitely go back! read more

I've been here a couple of times. I only eat the chicken Patties. This is a great spot for Caribbean food. This eatery is always clean and the food is always fresh, and they are always willing to cook something extra if they don't have it already available. The employees are always nice when they greet you. They also have a sitting area to eat and a Television to watch while you are waiting for your food. read more

Carribean flavor was the theme for our thank you catered luncheon to our wonderful co-worker. Once It was delivered(by a co-worker), the smell wafed through the room. Everyone was ready to dig in!!! I did have a few MINOR issues with some dishes. We ordered coco bread, beef patties, curry chicken, jerk chicken, mixed vegetables, plantains, and peas and rice. Most of the coco bread was still frozen as I was putting it on the table, the mixed veggies were bland and some of the jerk chicken was dry and burnt. They redeemed themselves though!!! The flavors and spice level of the main entrees elevated the entire meal. I am a rice and gravy girl, so the curry chicken and gravy with peas and rice hit the spot. I was trying not to put my head in my plate! Delish! And the BBQ sauce, I could use a spoon to eat it all by itself. I took one of the extra containers home with me, hehe. I will give them another try very soon. If you haven't already you should too. read more

Good food, friendly staff. Try the country chicken w/ extra gravy! The coco bread is so good.

Haven't done a review of this place recently even though I've gone back numerous times. Food is consistently good. I always get the jerk chicken, Nice heat. I turned one of my co-workers onto this place. He drives from Alexandria to Burtonsville at least 3 times a month to eat there now..lol read more

One of the best places to get jerk chicken and rice and peas. Other menu items are good as well. Food is spicy as it should be. Parking can be a little tight though read more

First, food was tastey, and prices ok. But this place gets 2 stars because service was mediocre, its like they didnt want me there or something? and second it was pretty friggin dirty, i didnt get sick but that could have been a fluke. Anyway, good food which is what i guess one would be going there for but i'd think you can find somewhere else with good food/prices but at least with a smile. read more

What a great find! Overheard a conversation at my daughter's softball game and stopped in after the game. Had a beef pattie, chicken curry, rice and peas, and cabbage. The beef was spot on, took me back to eating authentic patties when I was younger, although the dough I would eat was flakier and less bready in texture. The chicken curry was delicious and the sauce spread into the rice and peas that made me want to lick it clean! Will come back for the Ackee and Coco bread. Nice guy at the register and very helpful. Will be back! read more

My boyfriend and I found this small corner eatery on a whim. He got the LG jerk chicken and I got the curry goat and koko breads. I've fallen in love. This place is great; price is reasonable, food portion's great; it's the best koko bread I've had! read more

Can't believe we live so close and haven't tried this place before today. Two of us went for lunch and shared two lunch specials. One was curried chicken with rice and beans, the other was brown chicken with cabbage. Both were excellent. Can't beat the price, either. It was $10.65 total! (2 lunch specials and 2 sodas!) The chef and cashier were both friendly, place was clean... we'll be back! read more

Would have given this place a higher review but how do you not have food left when you still have 30 minutes to be open!!!! This is my second time here and had similar experiences. Not a good look at all and not to mention I'm not from the DC area but love Jamaican food.. read more
