A customer sitting next to us at a long sharing table said they come all the time and their pizza was way too salty as well but it was not the norm. I mentioned it to a person behind the counter and their response was that is how the owner likes it. Brought half the pie home hoping it would mellow out but it was inedible and had to throw it away. The layout of this casual pizza joint is awkward. Upon walking through the door and passing the pizza display counter you find yourself in front of the front counter - with no indications of where to stand or order -- where one hard-working employee is methodically (and expertly) assembling the meals for those people waiting at the nearby side tables. And completely ignoring you -- even though you have no choice but to be standing right in front of her. I understand -- all the tables of this small establishment were filled with people who had already ordered and were waiting for their meals to be ready. And she was the only staff person present, except for one guy in the back, who I assume was making the pizzas. But she could have at least said hello, or welcome to Trophy Pizza, or something. I finally made a comment -- "So, do we take a number? How does this work?" And then she said, without taking her eyes from her task, "I'll be right with you." After more awkward waiting, she took my order. I really just wanted a couple of slices of pizza to go -- but, honestly, most of the pies sitting ready in the display case looked cold and dried out & generally unappetizing. I chose the only one that looked palatable -- a simple pepperoni -- and she heated it in the toaster oven then packed it up for me (if she had asked me first, I would have told her that I was going to take it home and heat it up, so she didn't have to reheat it for me right then. But okay). Yes, when I got it home, it was delicious!! It was a huge, healthy 2 slices, and had a great ratio of sauce to cheese to bread, with flavorful sauce and a great mouth feel. However, the bottom crust was burnt, and you could taste it through the sauce. Begging the question -- So why did they place a burnt pizza in the display case? Overall, I can see the quality of this restaurant through my not-so-stellar experience -- it's a relaxed casual place for a good helping of flavorful, well-made New York style pizza. Tired of typical chain pizza places? Well look no further than Trophy pizza. Not only was the gluten free pizza I had excellent but the customer service was also top notch. It's a small shop but I found it to be clean and the over all vibe was great. They have some really cool offerings and unlike some places that give you small gluten free pizza, I felt this place gave me more bang for my buck. I enjoyed my White Hot pizza with Mikes Hot Honey. Also the crust was AMAZING! Definitely one of the best I have had. I definitely will be back. My only complaint is I wanted a gluten free cookie or dessert and they didn't have one. I had heard good things about them and I was a New Yorker for 20 years so I think I am qualified to judge.. they offer a 30" 1 topping oven baked this crust for about $28.. They have all the right stuff on the table.. Garlic Oregano Salt Pepper Parmesian and Red Pepper Flakes..On opening the Big box.. it looks a little well done but impressive huge slices .. the pepperoni was generous but that was about all I can say positively. It was skimpy on sauce and a true New York pizza fresh from the oven..should have a nice pool of oil from the pepperoni and 100% mozzarella than you need to soak up with napkins before you do the "New York Fold"..no legit New Yorker would dream of using a fork and knife.. the second step would be to hold the slice point down to drain off extra oil.. being careful not to let the mozzarella slide off.. 3rd..you take that first bite through the chewy somewhat stiff dough when it is still piping hot and let the molten lava of cheese and sauce burn the top of your mouth.. you have to be a bit of a masochist to truly enjoy a proper New York slice ... this unfortunately had none of those elements. Mine was borderline burnt.. minimal sauce and skimpy cheese. The dough was tough and hard to bite through. I consider this a straight pass.. The pie took 40 mins, but the crew was working with military precision to maximize the use of the oven. People we pouring in to pickup their to go orders. A good sign in my opinion. They offer by the slice options, but we decided on a whole pie with sausage and pepperoni. The crust was good, the sauce and meats were outstanding. The cheese was also very good. I haven't had pizza in NYC, so I'm unable to comment on Trophy Pizza's authenticity, but I know what I like, so I'll comment on that. First, they have excellent pepperoni, and don't skimp on it. Second, the crust is wonderfully crunchy and chewy, well browned and a little blistered. Third, the sauce is simple and tomatoey, so it doesn't compete with the rest of the pizza. I would prefer more cheese, but their pizza is nicely balanced as it is, so that's just a comment, not at all a complaint. I'm showing the greasy plate as a testimony to the excellence of the pepperoni. The pizza isn't greasy - just well flavored. They have a nice lunch special of a slice, green salad (house made dressing) and refillable fountain soda, or two slices and a soda, for $10.25. I didn't realize that when I ordered, so I lucked out. It makes a good, filling lunch. If you go during the lunch rush, be prepared to wait, but they work as fast as they can. By 12:30, there was no line. read more

Happy to report that their new 'Sunday Sicilian' pizza is off the charts if you love a light, airy, tender delicious crust with toppings. We chose the 'Sfincioni" one and added their sausage since we have to have meat on our pizzas. They should definitely add this new Sicilian pizza crust style to their already amazing New York and Grandma style pizzas! My grandson barely made it through one piece and my husband had two slices. We warmed it up in the oven today - so it wouldn't go to waste. My husband and grandson both had one more slice and there's still two more in the fridge. None of us cared for how overly chewy the crust is on this pizza. Really, really chewy. Is it always this chewy and kind of burnt on the bottom? Was the dough overworked in the mixer or is it just how the crust is on this pizza? No clue but we didn't like it. So, so very good. As I always try to put a disclaimer on my pizza reviews: Being from Chicago, I'm open about being a bit of a pizza snob. Chicago pizza is what I was born and raised on but I appreciate good pizza anywhere. Within my world travels, I've had some great pizza and it's not always from Chicago. Unfortunately, Cincinnati has little to offer in terms of good pizza. But then I came across Trophy Pizza. Truly a diamond in the rough. A needle in a Queen City sized haystack. A giant among.......alright, that's enough. Trophy's got the goods! Frequently visiting New York, one of my "go-to" stops is to always make my way to a pizza place and get a Grandma Slice of pizza. And since I'm being honest, it's never just one slice. If you're not familiar with the Grandma Slice, or Grandma Pizza, it's simple by design. Light airy dough, sauce, mozzarella cheese and garlic. Lots of garlic. Of course you have some seasoning mixed in there but that's the basic framework for it. Not being able to find it in Cincinnati, I've dialed in the recipe to be able to make it at home and it's not as simple as the ingredients make it seem. So I respect anyone that can make it good. Trophy has got it down, by about 98%, simply based on the numerous versions that I've ingested. They've got everything right but I do have one minor observation. It has to do with the crust. Yes, their crust hits the light and airy aspect of it. The one thing it's lacking is the buttery, almost caramelized, crust. When you bake a Grandma Pizza you're almost frying it. The art of the Grandma crust is you're almost frying it in a square pan, with raised sides, with tons of olive oil. The dough is literally swimming in it. It almost seems too much, but like I said, it's almost like you're frying it. Trophy was missing that one aspect of it as I found their crust to be light, airy yet a little on the dry side. But that isn't stopping me from getting it again, and again, and yet again. It is truly fantastic. The closest I can get to a Grandma Pizza here in Cincy and they use delicious ingredients throughout. I also tried a slice of the Margherita Pizza. Outstanding. Now, me personally, I can never have enough basil on just about anything. There is something about that sweet tasting aromatic little leaf that sets me of. Love it. But again, Trophy absolutely destroys your mouth with flavor by doing it right. Premium ingredients and so very obvious that this group really has a passion for bringing killer pies to Cincinnati. Would I go back? Trophy Pizza is 35+ minutes from me, depending on traffic. In a heartbeat, with very little thought and zero hesitation - yes, I go back as often as possible. If you're born and raised here in Cincy, Trophy is a great introduction to what is out there. What pizza CAN be! So instead of visiting that buddy you're known all your life, or getting papa to bring one to the house, venture out to a REAL New York pizza place and get the goods. From dining in, I can tell that the locals in their area know what's up and that secret needs to get out. Go get it! read more

I read an article about this place where the author said they import water from NY to make the most authentic NY style pizza in the area. Unfortunately that bit about the water is not true, but thankfully the rest of that statement is accurate. This is without a doubt the closest thing to NY style pizza I've had in Ohio. The crust is perfectly charred, crunchy and just firm enough to support the rest of the slice. The sauce is fresh, a tad sweet, but not over powering. The cheese is exactly what you would expect from this style. Not overpowering, not goopy, just right. I liked the overall vibe of the place. There were plenty of places to sit including a solo style counter at the front. They had a nice selection of drinks that I'm not used to seeing at pizza places around here. The only downside to this place is the location. Why is it so far north of the city!?!? I guess that may be a good thing; if it were closer I would come here every week. read more
