We've finally found our pizza spot!! We got takeout from here and were pleasantly surprised how great the pizza was. Loaded with toppings --which did make the Large size a bit drippy in the center, but worth it for the flavor and generous portion. The crust was thin and perfectly chewy with a nice edge. It was a rough time at Mad Monks and if I could go lower than one star, I would. One problem, was the bartender was too busy hanging outside to smoke weed with his buddies rather than actually tend to the customers waiting at the bar. When someone in my group had to twice ask him to stop his "puff puff pass" so we could get drinks, he got mad and told me whatever make good discount he was going to offer us was gone. The GM apologized, which was fine, but she should have fired him on the spot. Meanwhile, some other guys were outside smoking pot as well. I know it's legal but maybe not right outside the door of the restaurant? To add to the experience, my wife got food poisoning from her pizza that had honey glaze on it. So you can assume we are no longer going to this place. It's sad to see Mad Monks go down the drain because we've enjoyed it and the former 16 Lots in the past. For a to go order and not eating it right away once we brought it home, the food was great! The flavors were hard to beat, although the cheese bread could have used some Italian seasoning! Besides being a "self-serve" style pizza place, the drinks are sold separate from the food (why?) The pizza was below average (at best): unrecognizable cheese, excessive grease made the crust soggy, capicolla ham toppings were not evenly distributed but we're chucks (1per piece). Came here on a Saturday for Pizza week to try out 16 Lots and the special pizza that Mad Monks was featuring. Mad Monks is just inside the door to the right with their own menu and counter for ordering. I love the little fish tank on their counter with a fish & frog buddy! I placed my order and then took a number to the table in the brewery to which they would bring the pizza out to. It came out in a reasonable amount of time. I started out with the Wedge Salad. It was a decent size with fresh crispy lettuce, and decent mix of bacon and tomato, with close to just the right amount of dressing. For my pizza I went with the Mexi Cali which was spicy chicken, corn, cilantro, and I skipped the bbq sauce. The crust was VERY thin, I love a thin crust from brick oven, but this was SO thin that you had to fold the slice of pizza to be able to eat it, as it did not hold up with cheese and sauce on it. Flavor was okay. Later on myself and 3 other members of my group became sick to our stomachs and only common thing we'd eaten was the pizza unfortunately. read more

Mad Monk's Pizza is located inside of 16 Lots Brewing. The pizza place has a seperate counter the the brewery for ordering and paying. Menu boards hang above the ordering counter. Printed menus are also available on the counter. Patrons place their order, and are given a number. Pizza is brought to your table. There were six people in our group. That equaled, five pizzas, and one order of bread sticks with cheese. Breadsticks with cheese are a sauceless cheese pizza, with added garlic. It is cut into strips rather than wedges. Served with red sauce for dipping, this is the perfect option as a children's pizza. Slices are more manageable. Several of us ended up trying the breadsticks. We all agreed that the thickness of the breadsticks was good all the way throughout. On most of the pizzas however, the thickness from the crust to about two thirds in was good. That last third was so thin, all five pizzas were limp and soggy. Slices had to be folded over to be picked up, while the pizza was hot. One person used a fork. Once the pizza had cooled, and the cheese had begun to congeal, slices could be picked up. Congealed cheese being the driving force to holding a pizza together is not optimum for flavor. Speaking of flavor, the Mexicali pizza (special for Pizza Week,) was more Tex-Mex flavors that Mexicali. As a Tex-Mex pizza, there was a good mix of ingredients. The chicken was not dried out, and some bites really packed a punch with the spice level. Fresh cilantro on top was a nice touch. I'm going down as low as two stars because half of our group ended up with food poisoning. Not all of the people who got sick were from the same household. One of the people who got sick only drank water, not beer. It was the only thing we all had all consummated in common. read more

Ridiculously over priced pizza. Inconsistently burned and sometimes done perfectly . A GROSS fish tank sits right next to the counter where you order and pick up your food. The salad dressing (ranch) tasted and smelled sour, my husband thought it smelled like vinegar. Small menu consisted of pizza, salads, and the little chip bags you buy from Costco. I personally have only had one salad. It was the wedge and it was good. I'm a bigger guy and can put down some food but this would give me a run for my money in size. A regular sized one can easily be split between two people I highly recommend the GRIPPONATOR! It will blow your freaking mind! Such a great combination of ingredients and to top it off with a Cincinnati classic just makes it that much better. I also recommend creating your own. Simply because all of the ingredients are of high quality and will surprise you how different it tastes. The staff is extremely educated on what they sell and make. We visited during pizza week, so my review is slightly biased based off the fact that we wanted the deal. I have also been to 16 lots brewery multiple times, but I didn't have the chance to try the food. I was definitely a fan of Mad Monks and plan to come back. We split an entree sized Wedge Ranch salad between two people to start, and split the 11" Gripponator and Lovely Rita Maid pizzas between 4 peope. This was about the perfect amount of food. The service was very fast and pizzas came out hot. The grippo pizza came out much earlier than the lovely rita maid. The food runner was also almost painfully awkward with us. We asked for plates and he brought out extra pizza trays... Not sure if this is standard but our table quickly ran out of room. The pizza is too soft and (hopefully) hot to just hold and eat easily. My husband and I really liked the gripponator, the chips were fresh and crunchy and the flavor was spot on. We found the lovely rita to be a bit boring and basil was almost overwhelming, but my dad really liked it. We want to come back and try some of the other pizzas... They looked interesting and based off this experience we trust that the flavors would come together well. Overall, come for the beer and definitely stay for the pizza at Mad Monks. read more

We liked the pizza.....good flavor. But nothing blew our bangs back. It was "just" Very thin crust, which I guess is their style because there weren't crust options. Made a visit to 16 Lots recently on a nice day. As we enjoyed some beers and the great weather, we decided to try Mad Monks. We ordered a small pepperoni pizza. The servers were friendly and attentive. Very pleasant to deal with. The pizza was a small but a generous small for sure! The pizza was thin crust and cooked very well. Toppings were great, only thing that would have made it better was just a little bit more sauce. I know it's a personal preference but the sauce was very good and a little more would have made it perfect. Only complaint is they only normally have pizza and salad. They have occasional special items like pretzels with beer cheese but wish they had a couple more small appetizer type options. Will definitely order/eat there again soon! read more

After eating a slice it was clear you pay for the eye candy. The chicken was bland and the sauce was flavorless. The bbq "drizzle" was more of a bbq flood. Though I was not flooded with flavor. The crust was crisp, which I do like, but again had no flavor. All that said There is no such thing as a "bad" pizza. It was an ok pizza. A 13-15$ pizza. But For that 25$ price I could go less than five minutes up the road to Two Cities Pizza and they have a far superior product and I would spend 4-6 dollars less.
