I want to start by saying that this was the best Lebanese food I've had in NYC so far. My friend and I noticed on the menu that you could bring in your own wine or beer to drink so she ran to get a bottle of wine at Brooklyn Wine Exchange. They charged us for opening a screw-top bottle of wine without letting us know that they would, and when a friend of ours arrived, they paid absolutely no attention to him. We had to ask for a glass for him, and they never bothered to ask if he wanted something to eat... which he did. We ordered the hummus (serviceable but coupled with dry pita), the spinach pie (supposedly fresh but dry and unappetizing), the cous cous (dry and unpleasant), and the shish kebab (which was good, but sadly overshadowed by everything else). I know these guys have been here for an eternity, which counts for a lot, but I was not satisfied with my meal here. Just so so. I had a mezze plate (I've had better babaganoush and hummus elsewhere) which was okay. The chicken curry was also just okay. Portion size was large, but the flavors were one-dimensional. Visited Tripoli for dinner after the Atlantic Antic street fair. Friendly service, delicious food... love the hummus, baba ganoush, tabouleh salad...it's a vegetarian's dream. Also love the desserts -- especially the "bird's nest" -- wonderful. There is a private room downstairs... Please bring back live music and belly dancing! Good food. Ordered chicken kebab which was well marinated and had a smokey bbq finish, rice, and salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. The order came with included with picked radish, olives, and pita. Their lebaneese coffee was rich and reminded me of a cross between turkish coffee and italian espresso. Friendly and attentive waitstaff who made sure we had a pleasant meal and didn't make us feel rushed to leave. The resturant is in the lower level it was dim, cool, and had a Middle Eastern ambience. Yuck. A generally disappointing experience in a dingy basement setting. The meza platter was lacking in flavor and freshness: falafel that disintegrated into crumbs when touched, flat hummus and baba ghanoush, a fluorescent pink radish bleeding dye onto the plate and unimpressive baby olives. The Yachneh B'leban was practically inedible with three lonely morsels of lamb floating uncomfortably in a broken watery yogurt sauce. Just had a pleasant dinner at Tripoli restaurant this evening( Saturday, march 4th, 2017 , yes this restaurant is still opened after being in business 45 years)...the falafels were great and tasty, some of the best I've ever had. The hummus and the baba ghannouj were great and flavorful...The chicken kabab ( shish taouk ) was delicious, tender and moist.. can't go wrong with those items.. By the way, for those who have said Tripoli has closed...well they are still opened and now serving in the lower level dining room just below Swallow cafe, at the same location of 156 Atlantic avenue just in case some people are lost or confused. read more

Being Lebanese we are difficult to please when it comes to food in general, and when it comes to Lebanese food we are damn near impossible. Tripoli is the best I've had in NYC yet, and yes Tanoreen its even better than you are. We had the mezze platter, which included Labneh, Hummus, Baba Ghannouj, Falafel, pickles, olives and fluffy white Arabic bread. It was all delicious. I mean seriously mind bogglingly perfect. Just like home. The falafel was especially delectable as it was crispy on the outside, warm fluffy and light on the inside. We then had the kibbe nayye, which is a raw ground lamb with cracked wheat, olive oil and spices. Nelly's mom who makes amazing kibbe would have almost smiled. It really was excellent, fresh and very tasty. We had the sausage, mjaddara (a dish made with rice and lentils), the fattoush salad, and grape leaves. It was one of those moments that go down in history as we took food home because we couldnt finish it! Blasphemy. That said, it really was as close as it comes to the real deal. Its a 4 because its REALLY expensive. I mean mindbogglingly so. For $80 in the real Tripoli you could feed a family of 8 plus their camel (I'm joking there are no camels in Tripoli, only donkeys). So yes, a 4 but we will be back! read more

First things first - if you are looking to have any kinda alcohol with dinner, buy BEFORE you go - this place is BYOB. There's a supermarket right across the street for some beers and about two blocks west on Atlantic there's also Heights Chateau (great selection of wines but overpriced). Anyway, that part of the meal was definitely a big bummer (this did effect the rating, if you're wondering). We sat down for about 5 mins and the place was empty. I mean, no one there save a Middle Eastern family of about 10 in the way back. The ambiance is nice, and the location is key (we got a corner window seat as well) so we'd thought to try it. We started with the Tripoli Maza a combination appetizer plate consisting of hummus, babaganouj, cheese, olives, & falafel - FANTASTIC! We dipped and dipped and it was awesome....not too salty, not too tangy, just right and just enough for two. Then two vegetarian entrees that were also good - not great. Can't recall what they were but mine was eggplant. Again, ambiance is so-so, the place is usually dead but the food is good. The service was by some 15 yr old kid that seemed to be cordial but not really attentive. Would order out but not eat there. The food was definitely very good. read more

The food was really good and reasonably priced. Despite the murals and carved chairs, this place doesn't have a great ambiance. It needs a little updating. It was eerily empty both times that I've been here (I wasn't even sure it was open on the first occasion). I really don't mind a quiet meal, though, so this doesn't bother me particularly. I have been enjoying the food at Tripoli for a decade. It's just about as good as the Lebanese food my mother made when I was growing up. I'm always struck by the freshness of the ingredients. The kibbe is fantastic both baked and raw (think lamb tartar). The mezza dishes are all top notch - hummus, baba ganoush, tabouli etc. There are some great salads (my favorite is the fatoush). There are great options for meat lovers and vegetarians. I recently asked Tripoli to cater my birthday party. We had 30-40 guests. Everyone was wowed by the excellent meal and made the effort to ask about the restaurant. The manager helped me choose items and quantities. We had no leftovers! Tripoli has been in the neighborhood for decades. It has withstood the test of time because they put a lot of love into the food. If you are a longtime fan of Lebanese cuisine like me, or if you want to try something new, come to Tripoli. You'll be glad you did! read more

I freaking love this place omg!!! The mix grill was amazingly grilled to perfection the stuffed grape leaves was like my mothers!!! I love this place! The food is great! The service is questionable depending on the night you are there. However, i always visit at least once when I'm in the city. I love Lebanese food and tripoli is absolutely delicious. They have all of our favorites including baked and raw Kibbeh (you should call and ask if they have raw first). It is so hard to find a place that has it. Their meat is amazing, portions are huge. Service is a little slow but we love it everytime we eat here. The most authentic Lebanese food you will find in NYC by far. All the dishes we tried (and there were many) were delicious and light. If you are looking for real, authentic, healthy and made-from-scratch Lebanese food in town this is the only place I'd consider. The decor and atmosphere are definitely not that of a Soho hotspot, but who wants that in Cobble Hill anyway? We had friendly and pleasant service, amazing food, all at a very reasonable price. The food was great (really I'm a falafel snob) but the atmosphere was strange. Huge place, few diners, fewer staff and loud music- kinda like being at someone's birthday party when no one else shows. You just feel bad and are on edge waiting for their tears to come. read more

Not unlike the other reviewers for this restaurant, I too would like to commend the chefs on the delectable culinary repertoire of middle-eastern cuisine. Not to conform, but yes, the shish taouk (the grilled chicken dish) was better than my mom (or any mom for that matter) makes it. The "family-run" dynamic it offers unveils itself in the dishes, accurately encapsulating the "home-cooked meal" feeling. If you are looking to dine in the depths of Lebanon without leaving Brooklyn, I highly recommend the Tripoli restaurant. read more

I'm so glad this restaurant survived. It used to occupy the charming space that now houses popular coffee spot Sparrow and it made me sad to think one of Atlantic Ave's longstanding Middle Eastern spots had closed. Luckily, Tripoli has just moved downstairs. I haven't tried a lot here recently, but the mujadara (sp? Tripoli spells it mjudra) is delicious - onions chopped fine and cracked wheat instead of rice. read more

I think this place is completely underrated and I never understand why it's so empty especially with the shortage of Lebanese restaurants in NY. We ordered the maza so got to taste a lot of what they offer. The service was mediocre--we were one of two tables seated and somehow there was a bit of wait time. Also we weren't sure why they delivered all the food at once, which left us with 20 plates to eat at once, some cold and some hot. We'd have preferred to have them a few at a time, BUT THEY WERE DELICIOUS! I wish they'd do some kind of makeover because the interior is a little lackluster and may be a reason why people aren't drawn to it. My husband absolutely loves Middle Eastern cuisine, so we are always looking for new spots. From the outside, this place looks great. We went there for dinner on a Sat night and the place was fairly empty (bad sign) but since we were new in town, we thought we'd give it a try anyway. Eh. I ordered the okra dish, and what I got was a mushy lukewarm soup. The hummus was fine, but the pita bread that came with it had a strange aftertaste that I later realized was freezer-burn. Bottom line, there are plenty of other spots that offer much better food than this place. read more

Very underwhelming. Spinach pies with little flavor. The salad accompanying the dishes could have more dressing, herbs, flavor, olive oil. A big missed opportunty. The rice that came with my entree could have been from an Uncle Ben's box. The cauliflower and tahini dish I had was so flavorless I had to dump tons of salt in it. This place continues to be great!! I've been coming here with my family for over a decade and the quality of the service and food hasn't changed--it's excellent. We always order favorite starters (like Tripoli Meza, fava beans, tabouli) and then our entrées (chicken shish taouk & mixed grill). We were here tonight (Sat.) and everything was perfect!! Sadly, this old favorite has changed. The patriarch perhaps died or retired? He used to regale us with stories when we brought out-of-town guests and we would leave with bars of olive oil soap. They have sold or rented the street-floor space to Swallow, a yuppie coffee shop chain and Tripoli is downstairs only. We were there from 7:30-9:30 on a Saturday night and not another soul appeared. The kitchen area is separated by a makeshift curtain. Used to be such a wonderful environment. The menu is reduced. Some old favorites just aren't there. The grilled chicken is still good, but and the lamb in yogurt sauce was a step away from inedible. I thought long and hard before reviewing because I am attached to them, but they need to be aware that they need to change if they wish to stay around. Maybe they don't care. read more

The only critique is that I order the Chicken Shish Taouk and there is never enough chicken. the dish is 14.95, and the chicken that comes with it is delicious. But there is never enough. I feel ashamed that I have lived in the neighborhood for a year and only tried Tripoli last night. It's refreshing to go to a family owned restaurant that's been in the neighborhood for 40+ years, and if you look carefully the restaurant is shaped like a ship, which is pretty cool. The food was awesome. I am sure all the lamb dishes are fantastic. We got the Kifta Mishwiye which is a lamb kabob and the Sbanegh which is ground lamb and spinach served with yogurt which was really flavorful and different from anything I've ordered from a middle eastern restaurant. Big portions, plenty of food. Don't worry if it's not to crowded. It only means you'll get better service and the food will be great. It's really easy to get caught up in trendy brooklyn restaurants, but this place is a gem. They absolutely deserve your business. Oh, and it's byo wine and beer (minimal corkage fee) read more

Fresh and delicious ! Tripoli is a bit different from the other Middle Eastern restaurants along Atlantic Avenue; all the food is home made, authentic, and super crisp. Nothing is too salty , over- marinated or less than 100% fresh. I've been told the olives served in the meze platter are imported from Lebanon and cured in a labor-intensive process, and they do have a mild, special taste. I 've had the assorted appetizers, fattoush , cous cous , black eyed pea, and lentil dishes--all wonderful . I've never been disappointed. Nothing tastes mass produced or super market - quality. And the pita is just as good. The restaurant is downstairs. Another business, a cafe , is on street level , so don't walk by the Tripoli entrance or hesitate to go down one level. prices are reasonable & service is quick. read more

My husband and I always stop in here when we're in Brooklyn stocking up on Middle Eastern food and spices available on Atlantic Ave. It is very tough to please us when it comes to Lebanese food. The first few times we were in here we ranked Tripoli in our "It's OK" Lebanese food category. More recently, however, its jumped to a place we really look forward to getting back to. The hummus, falafel, fattoush, and tabouli are all very good. I'm also a big fan of their vegetarian kibbe (potato). We're looking forward to our next trip there! read more

It's a family owned business that has been in the same place for the last 30 years--this was the first time I'd tried it though and I'm very glad I did. My wife and I, along with our granddaughter and her man, had lunch at Tripoli on Sunday, July 21st. My wife and I had been there on 3 other occasions, beginning in late 1970s, 1989, and 2007. I grew up on my grandmother's wonderful Lebanese cooking, and Tripoli had always come very close to meeting her high standards. We were not disappointed. It was a very special occasion, with food to match. The lebna immediately brought back the smooth tartness of my grandmother's, and the babaganouj and hummus were equally delicious. Our main dishes were Kifta Mishwiye, Malfouf, Kibbee Mishiye, and Mjudra with fatoush. Each was a wonderfully prepared and presented dish. I had the Kibbee and was impressed with the taste and delicate aromas that, again, brought back memories of the generous table my grandmother always presented for our family dinners. After leaving my native Oklahoma, many years ago, I have searched from coast to coast for a Lebanese restaurant that satisfied my tastes. Tripoli is the best--though many years ago, there was a Lebanese restaurant in Manhattan--somewhere in the 30s that came very close. Our service at Tripoli was excellent. Friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and helpful in answering our questions. If you are interested in beautifully prepared, authentic Lebanese fare, this is the place to go. read more

I have lived here for many years, and only in the last few years have I come to truly appreciate Tripoli. We have a lot of good restaurants here on Atlantic Avenue now, but, apart from the wonderful food, Tripoli offers something that is becoming more and more rare - a welcoming environment where you can actually hear each other talk! This is now my go-to place when friends from out of town come to visit. Speaking of the food ... if you're a vegetarian, there are some terrific choices. As someone who does eat meat and really enjoys their lamb kibbee, I was surprised how much I loved the meatless kibbee b'ziat made with potatoes, cracked wheat, onions, walnuts and raisins. I recommend that and their deliciously smoky babaganouj. And back to dishes for meat fans, their coussa b'leban (squash stuffed with ground lamb, rice and pine nuts in a yogurt sauce w/ mint) is also yummy. read more
