tahini date banana bread along with yazdi cake (cardamom cake with rose, vanilla bean and white chocolate cream)
    Yessenia F.

Sofreh Cafe is a lovely spot to grab a sweet treat and enjoy a cup of tea. It's a very nice, modern Persian cafe. The pastries all look very delicious. I ordered the Yazdi cake, which was a cardamom cake made with rose and vanilla bean. It was refreshing and not overly sweet. I thought it paired very well with the chai I ordered. The chai served there is Persian black tea. I also ordered the Tahini Date Banana Bread. The banana bread was good, but I thought it was overpowered by the caramel sauce and sesame seeds on top. I couldn't really taste anything but the caramel. There are options to get a more savory meal with green salad, which is good to note for lunch! Also, this place has moments where it gets jam-packed, and I do get the sense that it is a bit understaffed. It was a little disorganized when I visited, so it was a little tricky when it came to placing orders and forming a line, but overall, the staff was very friendly and attentive!

Good place to have some delicious pastries and chat. I adored the cardamom cake, really delicate flavors. We split the latifeh and kadaifi, very unconventional and subtle flavors and textures. All quite sweet but not too overwhelming for someone without a sweet tooth, I would maybe balance it out with a savory pastry next time. The barista recommended a hot drink with them, and the saffron herbal tea was the perfect complement. There was no wi-fi, so more of a hanging out spot than a work spot. Nice to people watch from inside as well. I want to try the weekend-only rose doughnuts as well! It's definitely one of the most solid cafe options in the area, lots of seating as well. Not super cozy but it's more about the food and drink than the atmosphere!

Cute, clean cafe. Came here on recommendation of the owners who also own Sofreh, the nearby restaurant. That restaurant is by far one of our favourite places to eat, but this cafe falls short. The prices are nearly double what they should be for the quality served, some items a touch on the stale side. Have hopes they adjust as it used to be better. We have been here 4 or 5 times.

Went to try the rosé custard donut and it was so good!! Soft and bouncy donut and the filling was so creamy and rose custard is so aromatic!! Also is not too sweet which I like!! I hate too sweet donuts

Wow, this is a must come to restaurant. It's a nice space, nothing amazing, but very nice. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. But the food! Omg. Everything was just slightly unusual but absolutely delicious!!! Eggplant and whey dip, served with warm bread, a type of lavash; tahini and date salad; jewel rice with carrots; pomegranate beef ribeye steak; Shiraz salad; saffron rice pudding. Every dish and absolute winner. I can't wait to come back here.

We came here after going to their flagship restaurant called SOFREH. We enjoy playing backgammon here and listening to the musics! We love the granola bowl and the latifeh. We love chatting with the owner! So sweet.

Sofreh Cafe's sublime, absolutely delicious Tahini Date Banana Bread topped with Salted Caramel and Sesame Seeds

Walking around Park Slope and came upon Sofreh Cafe, a bakery cafe with Persian specialties. A small, but beautifully modern bright space, their selection of baked goods was artisan looking and sparked my interest to try them - however I was shocked at the high prices for some of the items given their size, e.g., the Piroshki Gosht, a small fist-sized pie filled with beef, raisins and cumin that went for $12. Just looking for a snack, opted for Sofreh Cafe's $8 Tahini Date Banana Bread topped with salted caramel and sesame seeds. Wow! A real treat! It was absolutely sublime! Recommend Sofreh Cafe for a special date or meeting, but given the pricey nature for the size wouldn't be a regular for many of these items... even if I normally came to this neighborhood. That being said, look forward to trying out their elegant Latifeh sandwich cookie with rose cream and salted pistachios, the Maleke Badoom Queen of almond pastries with honey, and Bereshtook roasted chickpea flour donuts with Valrhona White Chocolate.

Finally made it - and on the weekend, no less, which means I was able to try the weekend special: a rose custard doughnut. Quite delicious and enough for me to come back for more! The baklava didn't quite do it for me, but they clearly know what they're doing here.

I love sofreh so I had to come try sofreh cafe. I ran in right before they closed and the nice man working (who happened to be the brother of the Sofreh owner haha) was so kind and let me order. I got a piroski -- it had feta and spinach and it was to die for. This might be my new favorite spot. I love the vibes so so much. Reminded me of Iran. Parking is tough but that's all of NY. Will def be back.

Khosh maze! Very cute place, friendly staff and unique modern options. Prices are definitely $2-3 too high but both pastries we got were delicious and flavorful. Sofreh Cafe is approved by my Persian partner! :)

Banana bread and sour cherry cooler
    Eric S.

I really like Sofreh the restaurant, but boy is this place a hard miss. What you see below in the picture - the banana bread and the "sour cherry" cooler -costs $19 after tip. The cooler has basically no taste at all- a slightly sweet finish but no trace of sour or cherry. The banana bread is perfectly fine, but considering the price, you'd think they might offer a more generous slice. Unfortunately this has become a trend in Prospect Heights- expensive cafes offering below average fare. I would have given them a second chance, but at these prices, it's really not worth the risk.

Major let down. After trying the amazing Sofreh restaurant, the owner recommended to try their cafe. I was craving their saffron ice cream so I went to check it out to see if they had it. Upon entering, the cafe was disorganized, dirty, and understaffed. They sadly had no ice cream on their menu which was a sad shock cause I consider it to be a staple. It felt like no one was managing the place. Thankfully, I got their Latifeh instead which was delicious. The rose water and pistachio flavours were truly amazing and rich. All their pastries for that matter looked tasty. Although, the baklava didn't need the chocolate.. Personally, I'll stick to their incredible restaurant. I wouldn't go back unless their management changed and cafe was cleaner. If you visit the cafe, get their Latifeh to go.

A garden salad a chicken frittata persian bread and Persian sodas. It's self-service.

It disappeared within 4 bites. Maybe that's a good thing? The kashke bademjan (eggplant, $23) is smothered in yogurt and other toppings. Would say this is more worth than the carrot, on a flavor per bite basis. I would hardskip the potato tahdig ($18). Convince me that this is something more than an enlarged hashbrown with fancier ketchup. The baseline was on a dollar menu. This evokes the "this is chicken nuggets" meme after someone prepared a "breaded chicken piccata." The kabob koobideh ($25) comes with 7 small cubes of beef/brisket, and some rice. Can you taste or experience the wagyu? What are we doing here? You receive 1 bone marrow and 4 pieces of angus short rib with the ghormeh sabzi ($48). Good, yes. Worth it? Questionable. Overall, delicious, but I'm biased toward Persian food and feel like it has a high floor. I don't think Eyval stood out compared to lower-priced Persian options, which made me feel like the visit wasn't justified.

Service is outstanding - staff are super attentive, very well versed on the menu and love to throw in a joke or two. During my visit, I found out that Persian New Year coincides with Spring, so this was a great way to celebrate the day. All the food we had was very hearty and well seasoned. I will say, a slight complaint I had was that the marinara that came with the calamari was warm, and I can't say I loved that. At least room temp, I would think. Tried one of the stew specials - ghormeh sabzi - so flavorful and delicious, I definitely savored those leftovers. I really do look forward to returning to try their lamb stew.

The entrance is tucked away and inviting, and it's a perfect little spot for a quick brunch with friends or even a casual date. We started off with calamari which was honestly quite disappointing. The dusting of cornmeal seemed like an add choice, texturally. I'm not sure if they used fresh squid or not because it seemed cut a little too thin. The calamari was also super dry and chewy and it was painfully obvious that it was over-cooked which was a shame. For our entrees we went with the pepper crusted salmon and the steak and eggs. My salmon was cooked perfectly. I loved the crispy crust and the flavors were spot on. My side salad was pretty lackluster and felt like an afterthought on the plate. I also thought the size of the salmon fillet was on the smaller side. The hanger steak bite I got was a bit on the chewier side but nonetheless well seasoned. I think they can make a few improvements to the food here. With the location and ambience, there is no reason upping the quality of food wouldn't push them to be a more stellar establishment!

The new space is beautiful and open and airy, but sadly the service has dipped. This place used to be almost too fast, we were in and out and we consistently knew we could come here and get out in a very timely manner. But now I literally had to flag down our waitress and I still didn't get her attention, another waitress came over to help us get our check. We also didn't get checked on at all, luckily our food was good and right. The table next to us didn't get greeted for water or anything so they had to flag down the guy delivering food to get a waitress. I thinkkk it may be because the wait staff is servicing here and the location next store but it's really impacted the experience. Totally understand that a lot of places are understaffed, but we've never experienced this before Miriam we love you, but pleaseeeeee stop changing the menu.
