    House made black tea
    Julie P.

Sofreh Cafe is near my job and I've become very fond of it. It's very sleek in design yet traditional in its impact. When you walk into the bathroom or take notice of the art all around, you'll see the Persian touches. I tried their rose custard donut, piroshki khamei, that is only available on the weekends and I loved it. That tiny little donut filled with a rose cream is such a delight. It's light in texture and fluffy when you're holding it. Nasim told me it's a childhood classic for her. Something that they had by the movies in Iran. I also tried their piroshki goosht, shirmal shirin (milk bread), pistachio shirmal, and sambuseh (samosas). I personally loved it all. I love Filipino bakeries that most because they always have sweet and savory pastries. So it's really hard for me to fall in love with a different culture's bakery. But Sofreh has changed the game up for me. I'm a fan of it all here, including their house made black tea. A must if you're a cafe lover and want to indulge in something different than the usual.

tahini date banana bread along with yazdi cake (cardamom cake with rose, vanilla bean and white chocolate cream)

Sofreh Cafe is a lovely spot to grab a sweet treat and enjoy a cup of tea. It's a very nice, modern Persian cafe. The pastries all look very delicious. I ordered the Yazdi cake, which was a cardamom cake made with rose and vanilla bean. It was refreshing and not overly sweet. I thought it paired very well with the chai I ordered. The chai served there is Persian black tea. I also ordered the Tahini Date Banana Bread. The banana bread was good, but I thought it was overpowered by the caramel sauce and sesame seeds on top. I couldn't really taste anything but the caramel. There are options to get a more savory meal with green salad, which is good to note for lunch! Also, this place has moments where it gets jam-packed, and I do get the sense that it is a bit understaffed. It was a little disorganized when I visited, so it was a little tricky when it came to placing orders and forming a line, but overall, the staff was very friendly and attentive!

The delicious food at Sofreh Bakery, I recommend all

I fell in love with Sofreh Cafe attending a Yelp Elite event a few years back at the original location in Bushwick. Talk about an experience; getting to learn about Bushwick and then Persian food. Elites were entitled to complimentary Cardamom tea and Ka'ak bread with whipped feta and Yadzi cupcake. Of course I took home barbari bread, banana bread and baklava. The place was warm and cozy with extended farmhouse tables and pendant lighting. Then it closed due to a new restaurant opening* I've passed this Prospect Heights location numerous times and today was the day to step inside for Cardamom tea and a treat to take home. The space is warm, lovely and inviting and the employee who took my order was extremely friendly. I decided to order the Black Iranian tea which does contain rose petals, cardamom and cinnamon and a piece of barbari bread. I sat down and drank the tea, still delicious as I remember from the original location. The menu also contains the Yadzi cupcake, banana bread, and Piroski. I'm very impressed and know this will be another favorite to visit on Bergen Street. *Eyval took over that space and what was wonderful about attending that Yelp Event was getting a personal invitation to the opening of Eyval. I highly recommend dining there. Sofreh Cafe located on St. Marks Pkace has been bookmarked for awhile, 2026 will be the year I dine there

Food/drinks: soo yumm and it smells insane in here! I love the baklava but want to come back to try the others Atmosphere: it's so cute, lots of seating and a retro minimalist vibe Service: really friendly Price: pricey!!! ~$8 for the pastries

Good place to have some delicious pastries and chat. I adored the cardamom cake, really delicate flavors. We split the latifeh and kadaifi, very unconventional and subtle flavors and textures. All quite sweet but not too overwhelming for someone without a sweet tooth, I would maybe balance it out with a savory pastry next time. The barista recommended a hot drink with them, and the saffron herbal tea was the perfect complement. There was no wi-fi, so more of a hanging out spot than a work spot. Nice to people watch from inside as well. I want to try the weekend-only rose doughnuts as well! It's definitely one of the most solid cafe options in the area, lots of seating as well. Not super cozy but it's more about the food and drink than the atmosphere!

Cute, clean cafe. Came here on recommendation of the owners who also own Sofreh, the nearby restaurant. That restaurant is by far one of our favourite places to eat, but this cafe falls short. The prices are nearly double what they should be for the quality served, some items a touch on the stale side. Have hopes they adjust as it used to be better. We have been here 4 or 5 times.

Wow, this is a must come to restaurant. It's a nice space, nothing amazing, but very nice. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. But the food! Omg. Everything was just slightly unusual but absolutely delicious!!! Eggplant and whey dip, served with warm bread, a type of lavash; tahini and date salad; jewel rice with carrots; pomegranate beef ribeye steak; Shiraz salad; saffron rice pudding. Every dish and absolute winner. I can't wait to come back here.

We came here after going to their flagship restaurant called SOFREH. We enjoy playing backgammon here and listening to the musics! We love the granola bowl and the latifeh. We love chatting with the owner! So sweet.

Sofreh Cafe's sublime, absolutely delicious Tahini Date Banana Bread topped with Salted Caramel and Sesame Seeds
    Mike R.

Walking around Park Slope and came upon Sofreh Cafe, a bakery cafe with Persian specialties. A small, but beautifully modern bright space, their selection of baked goods was artisan looking and sparked my interest to try them - however I was shocked at the high prices for some of the items given their size, e.g., the Piroshki Gosht, a small fist-sized pie filled with beef, raisins and cumin that went for $12. Just looking for a snack, opted for Sofreh Cafe's $8 Tahini Date Banana Bread topped with salted caramel and sesame seeds. Wow! A real treat! It was absolutely sublime! Recommend Sofreh Cafe for a special date or meeting, but given the pricey nature for the size wouldn't be a regular for many of these items... even if I normally came to this neighborhood. That being said, look forward to trying out their elegant Latifeh sandwich cookie with rose cream and salted pistachios, the Maleke Badoom Queen of almond pastries with honey, and Bereshtook roasted chickpea flour donuts with Valrhona White Chocolate.

    Rose custard doughnut, baklava
    Eric B.

Finally made it - and on the weekend, no less, which means I was able to try the weekend special: a rose custard doughnut. Quite delicious and enough for me to come back for more! The baklava didn't quite do it for me, but they clearly know what they're doing here.

I love sofreh so I had to come try sofreh cafe. I ran in right before they closed and the nice man working (who happened to be the brother of the Sofreh owner haha) was so kind and let me order. I got a piroski -- it had feta and spinach and it was to die for. This might be my new favorite spot. I love the vibes so so much. Reminded me of Iran. Parking is tough but that's all of NY. Will def be back.

    Outside of cafe

Khosh maze! Very cute place, friendly staff and unique modern options. Prices are definitely $2-3 too high but both pastries we got were delicious and flavorful. Sofreh Cafe is approved by my Persian partner! :)

Banana bread and sour cherry cooler
    Eric S.

I really like Sofreh the restaurant, but boy is this place a hard miss. What you see below in the picture - the banana bread and the "sour cherry" cooler -costs $19 after tip. The cooler has basically no taste at all- a slightly sweet finish but no trace of sour or cherry. The banana bread is perfectly fine, but considering the price, you'd think they might offer a more generous slice. Unfortunately this has become a trend in Prospect Heights- expensive cafes offering below average fare. I would have given them a second chance, but at these prices, it's really not worth the risk.

Was also impressed by the roasted cauliflower, the flavor was incredible with the pickled vegetables, shallot yogurt, and tomato & chili glaze. Sofreh bread was also delicious with the cauliflower. Jewel rice was also delicious, think I would prefer the saffron rice next time as the candid orange was a bit overpowering for me. Lamb shank was delicious, but the star of the show was definitely the pomegranate beef ribeye. Insanely juicy and flavorful. Loved the roasted tomatoes and grilled onions (had a nice acidity to them), and the pomegranate pieces were the perfect complement to the ribeye. I would skip the persian rosewater sorbet as it was incredibly limey and tough to finish due to how acidic it was. The cardamom rose cake was moist and unique though! I also really liked the persian black tea and the ghand. I liked their downstairs bathroom more as they have footage playing on the projector. The staff is so friendly and so many persians were there, I was quite pleased at that! You don't typically walk into any restaurant in Chelsea/Flatiron and find that half the people or more in the restaurant are of that culture (unless we're talking cheeseburgers or wings here). Their wine list is extensive and interesting. They don't have everything on it, but that's okay, we had a fun Artadi wine from Spain - a winery we've been to, which was what I was going for on the list. The cocktails didn't speak to me, but that's okay, persian cocktails can be great or confused. These seemed more on the confused side. The fresh herbs were served as an app, and they were great. Just like my grandma always has on her table. The feta stuffed dates were fantastic, again a nice treat that reminds me of something my grandma might serve me. The labne was stellar with pita bread, and the kashk e bademjan was really good, though not like any I've made before. But that dish can be wildly different anywhere you go. I asked for Tahdig and got some, but I got ghormeh sabzi dolloped on my tahdig which was interesting - like ghormeh sabzi nachos. I do wish the ghormeh sabzi was better. However I may just be extremely partial to our own ghormeh sabzi at home. The cornish game hen kabas were out of this world! sooooo juicy! Definitely worth a visit - you'll enjoy it - but I don't know if tahdig and ghormeh sabzi here are the way to go.

I will say, a slight complaint I had was that the marinara that came with the calamari was warm, and I can't say I loved that. At least room temp, I would think. Tried one of the stew specials - ghormeh sabzi - so flavorful and delicious, I definitely savored those leftovers. I really do look forward to returning to try their lamb stew.

The entrance is tucked away and inviting, and it's a perfect little spot for a quick brunch with friends or even a casual date. We started off with calamari which was honestly quite disappointing. The dusting of cornmeal seemed like an add choice, texturally. I'm not sure if they used fresh squid or not because it seemed cut a little too thin. The calamari was also super dry and chewy and it was painfully obvious that it was over-cooked which was a shame. For our entrees we went with the pepper crusted salmon and the steak and eggs. My salmon was cooked perfectly. I loved the crispy crust and the flavors were spot on. My side salad was pretty lackluster and felt like an afterthought on the plate. I also thought the size of the salmon fillet was on the smaller side. The hanger steak bite I got was a bit on the chewier side but nonetheless well seasoned. I think they can make a few improvements to the food here. With the location and ambience, there is no reason upping the quality of food wouldn't push them to be a more stellar establishment!
