I just moved from Scituate to right near the Hingham Shipyard, so I was thrilled when they announced a restaurant similar to Galley (in Scituate) was coming to the Shipyard. My husband and I went for lunch the first week they were open, and it was OK, but the menu was minimal, the service was slow, and the sandwiches weren't worth the money. We figured it was their first week, and they'd get better. And the chicken sandwich was good enough that my 7-month-pregnant self craved it. So we went for lunch last week to give it another try. I forgot that the sandwich was $16 (!!) until we got there, but again, cravings are cravings! We sat at the bar, only 3 other groups in the restaurant, and the menu is still small so it took us 2 seconds to look at it. But then we sat there waiting to order for 10 minutes. Finally we order, and then wait, and wait, and wait for 30 minutes for 2 sandwiches to come out. Again, 3 groups in the restaurant, and they are SANDWICHES! When my chicken sandwich came out 30 minutes later, I luckily gave it a quick look before scarfing it down, because the chicken was RAW. I freaked out. Being pregnant, touching raw chicken, I was skeeved. I sent it back and was tempted to just leave, but at that point I was absolutely starving, didn't have enough time to go somewhere else before heading back to work, so they took it back, and brought me a whole new plate maybe 10 minutes later. It was good, but I was seriously just grossed out at that point. And no, they didn't take anything off the bill... I gave them the benefit of the doubt their first week because I figured they were getting their act together. But weeks into business, to serve a raw chicken sandwich to a pregnant person after having them wait 40 minutes to order and get their food when the restaurant is basically empty, I just can't trust that they'll ever get their act together. O. M. G. Hubby and I went there for light dinner the other night. We are mew to town and are slowly finding our go-to places. This one shot to the top of the list! The raw oysters were superb...bring and sweet. We had grilled octopus which was best I have ever had, just the right amount of char and so tender you didn't need a knife. Roasted cauliflower was again, perfectly cooked with nice nuttiness. Shoshito (sp?) Peppers blister and sweet. The wine list was curated very nicely with all price points covered. We were drinking white but the reds looked good. I'm a huge fan of Loire valley wines and the had several from that region. We can't wait to go back and indulge some more!! read more

My husband and I love their other restaurant Galley in Scituate so we were excited to try this new restaurant in Hingham where we live. We went the first few weeks of their opening and was pretty disappointed with the quality of their food especially the high pricing for what you received. We recently went this past weekend and were shocked at how good the service was and how great the revised menu was. It was a completely different restaurant! The food was delicious and priced well! I'm really disappointed to leave this review. We have come to Trident at least three times each summer since it opened when we come to visit my parents in Hingham. Yesterday my mum and I came in after getting of the boat from Boston. It being a Monday night, it wasn't busy. We wanted the poke but were told it wasn't available. that was disappointing. but we quickly ordered two other things. The tina loon and the pork belly. Even though they were small plates, both were so small in quantity for the price, it left us hungry. My mum ordered a gin and tonic that came back mostly Gin. She asked for more tonic, and when she received it it had an awful taste. We have enjoyed Trident for so long, but will not be back. read more

Love this place! Ever since our first visit, this has become our "go to" spot. Consistently friendly and efficient service, great drinks and we really like how they regularly update their menu. My wife and I went there today after searching for 30-45 minutes online for a place that had brunch/lunch that we could both eat at. She is vegan and I am a meat eater. Insert Trident Galley and Raw Bar. We were greeted with a warm smile that was genuine and inviting. We sat at the bar and the brunch and lunch menu had options for both vegan and meat eaters. The drinks were great (fresh squeezed mixers for their cocktails ever day), bartender was attentive and checked on all the dishes my wife ordered just to make sure they were vegan. We highly recommend this place for all types of foodies, they have something for everyone. Atmosphere was great, causal but upscale, all the staff were friendly, very clean and appropriately priced for the area. Near the water and other shops if you want to take a walk around after eating. Still waiting for my drink. Staff to people ratio is 1:3, but they might be busy. I really only need to write the first two lines but they are making me write more to turn this from a "tip" to a "review." That said, I think the first two sentences will suffice as a complete review of the experience. *Update: Service was hurting a little today. 35 minutes for oysters (two). 45 minutes for the soups (one was returned for slightly cool temperatures, an ice cube would have been comfortable swimming around) and drinks. An hour in the 5 meals came out. French toast missed its turn to be cooked. Toaster might be taking Sunday off, and the "Italians" would be offended by the Stop and Shop bread with Subway meats called an "Italian." Hingham is a slightly unusual place but $40 per person for Pine Street Inn meal/service is slightly inflated. I wish I could share pictures but I wouldn't dare put my camera lens through the misery. The gentleman playing reggae is solid though. Note for the future: sit near curly hair bartender and get one good drink and a water and listen to reggae. Then, go get brunch. Waitress was pleasant. Name of restaurant might be more influential than I realized, Chefs only use Tridents for cooking and raw bar also refers to soup and French toast. Off to get brunch now. read more

Just a heads up, they are no longer doing dollar oyster. We were disappointed about the change today since we went it for drinks and oysters. The blood orange margarita was good. Found this "gem" by accident. Initially went to the "Beer Works " across the street to sit outside with our dog, Enzo. No problem there but we were informed by waitstaff that the grill had broken down, so no burgers or anything that needed to be grilled could be ordered... so I looked across the street and saw Walhburgers and Trident. Trident was dog friendly and had excellent background music. We sat outside and and Kelsi, our server, was a breath of fresh air. I had the lobster bisque and lobster sliders and Carol had tomato bisque and quinoa salad. Food was absolutely satisfying and the craft cocktails were spot on! We live west of Boston about thirty miles away but I guarantee you this, we will be back!!! Beautiful design. I love the ambience. Waitstaff was very knowledgeable and attentive. Food was great but way, way over priced. Bisque was perfect. My husband loved his burger. My caprese salad was yummy with the exception of the tiny $8 shrimp add. Really, they were an insult. Total cost of the salad $22! Beer selection small but good. This atmosphere is amazing. Best tuna tar tar, oysters, etc. How do I know, the bartenders go out of their way to make sure I am having a great time, drinking a great drink and lots of laugh. If you want real service, always smiles, and a place where the atmosphere is welcomed for non regulars this place is heaven. Anyone complaining has to catch a ferry and out of no where we're not responsible, realized they got to run to a ferry, then complain because that is what millennials do sometimes. This place is the number one place that treats boaters like family. Mention you know Bobby you will realize Hingham has a bartender who appreciates his customers. Service was so bad. After we were greeted it took 10 min for us to get drinks at which point we put our appetizer in and then didn't see our waitress again. Some time later, we had to ask the hostess to get our server and when she came over she looked surprised that we wanted to put our lunch order in. Eventually two of the three meals came, one cold, and we were missing the other one. The server came back over to check on us 5 minutes later and we told her one person never got their food. We also asked for the cold meal to be heated up, she brought it to the back and someone walked it back about a few minutes later. A restaurant should remake food when it's cold, not heat it up- AND it was returned in exactly the same fashion as we gave it to them - Embarrassing. About 15 minutes later, no food, no server, no drink refills, we got the hostess again asking for a manager. She offered up one excuse that it was Father's Day (they were busy but not swamped and not on a wait so we didn't think that was a viable excuse) and let us leave without even trying to fix anything. The atmosphere was nice and the appetizer we got was decent. We were excited to make it our new "spot" but won't be back. Our celebratory trip to Trident was a fabulous experience. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. We ordered a variety of four appetizers and shared them. The seared yellowfin tuna was wonderful and fresh.The fried oysters were scrumptious and very filling. We thought we were getting 3 but 6 arrived and there was no extra charge so by the end of three large and wonderful pieces, we were quite full. The crispy fried haddock taco was the best I'd ever had. Finally, and luckily, quinoa taboli arrived as the last dish. It was light, very fresh and after the other rich dishes, it was almost like a light salad or sorbet for cleansing the palate and giving some relief to our very full tummies. Trident is ideally located in the Hingham Shipyard with outdoor seating, great people watching and pretty good food. I'm not going to post a long review, but have been here a few times and although we've always enjoyed the food, which is prepared quickly, the service has always been lacking. From the hosts, to bartenders, to servers, you never quite feel like you're getting the experience you're paying for. Again, the ambiance and food are worth it. Just don't expect much from the staff. I don't know how to say it without sounding like a pr!@k, but if you're getting at least a 20% premium on top of my bill, you could at least half-act like we are welcome there. This is t an isolated incident. I've frequently been disappointed with the people there. COVID has only made things worse, for that I understand. Either way, if you want to go, make a reservation, enjoy the poutine, tacos, and raw bar, and I challenge you to get your server engaged in two way conversation. read more

Very Happy with dinner at Trident on Tuesday night. We had dollar oysters from Duxbury very good. Next was a nice cheese plate with Duck Chorizo. 3 of us got the swordfish special all had clean plates. One person in that 3 has a lot of dietary concerns, the waiter handle all of her requests. My husband and I went the other night for a low-key birthday dinner and the menu looked great. We ordered a bunch of tapas and a few were pretty good but the other ones were very lackluster. The waiter took an item off our check which was very nice of him because it was it wasn't prepared properly. We decided to get dessert - a basic apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and while the ice cream was great the apple crumble was super watery like they had added liquid to it -very weird. I usually don't write reviews but we spent over $100 and what could've been a great meal was pretty mediocre. Went for brunch and the service was subpar. All servers couldn't manage a hello or a smile. They would bring food to the table and essentially drop it staring at us. The eggs Benedict with crab cakes had over cooked eggs - awful attempt at poaching - and pieces of shell. The Bloody Mary was watery so not sure if it was the mix or lack of vodka. The duck hash had too many competing spices that overtook the dish. The restaurant wasn't busy at all so it can't be attributed to volume of customers. This is the second attempt at this restaurant. Dinner wasn't too successful months ago with the waitress forgetting an order and than disappearing which I see is common from other reviews. read more

Amazing food for Cheap prices. Got there Ribeye and it was so big my girlfriend and I had too bring it home and finish it. I also LOVE that they do $1 raw oysters after 5. The Look of the restaurant matches up really well with it being Located in the Hingham Shipyard. No complaints from me at all. I then found out after going 3 times that my buddy's Family owns this place! His father is a great guy and puts everything He has into maintaining his Well established restaurants! I highly recommend eating at Trident then maybe going to the AMC movies afterwards and making a night out of it. 5/5 :) read more

The first time in my life I left a restaurant before receiving food/drinks because the wait staff was so rude. My friend and I were accused of having fake IDs after providing back ups and allowing the management to take our real IDs to the back of the restaurant to examine for 20 minutes. My children and their spouses astopped in during lunch time. We all decided to order seafood finger food as in 4 types of Oyster selections. Extremely large cocktail shrimp possibly 10/12 per lb. cheese dish of blue cheese and a softer cheese similar to a Brie but had a cheddar flavor and it came with a duck chorizo sausage and crispy bread, a couple of us had gazpacho and others had clam chowda. Just dined at Trident for the fourth time in the last couple of months. We keep coming back for a reason - the excellent food is complemented by outstanding service. During our first visit our server Dacil made the evening memorable. We ordered many of the small plates, each one better than the one before. Highlights were Cajun shrimp & grits, tuna poke, grilled octopus, roasted cauliflower and the lobster tacos. Raw bar was excellent as was the wine list. This evening we were fortunate enough to be served by Mina who was again a treat. Had several of our favorites and the Salmon entre which did not disappoint. We sat at the counter where the raw bar was and the young man shucking oysters took the time to answer my curious wife's questions. I would say the food was a 3 at best however the service was very slow and inattentive despite the restaurant not being that busy. I went for the small plates crispy fried haddock taco (tasty but very small) .. the server asked if I wanted 2 ...and I understand why... the serving wouldnt choke a mouse. 2 would run you $14 and they wouldn't touch the sides on the way down. Sticking with the small plate, I ordered Brazilian Feijoada $10 and Patatas Bravas $5 (needed to fill me up) the Feijoada was ok however the latter was very disappointing and tasteless. Having experienced tapas in Spain and the UK it falls way short. My guest went for the large plate Pan seared Altantic Salmon $28 and it was nothing to write home about. The soy ginger basmati rice was tasteless and the rest was well below what I would expect for the money. The wine saved the day, a cheeky Gris de Gris Corbieres Rose $42 ( 4.1 rating on Vivino ave $15.66) From a service perspective, I am not someone who is a hurry however after initially receiving a glass of ice water it took a while before the server returned too take our drinks order. It was a while again before she came back for the food order. I was eventually presented with my small plate (2 bite) taco and it was a further wait before the patatas bravas arrived. My guests Salmon wathen served and I had to ask if they had remembered the small plate Feijoada. Overall , nice settling , poor service and disappointing overpriced food. If you're going to this place just to have oysters then it's okay however the service is slow and a bit arrogant. The main dishes suffer greatly considering where we live. Natives know that seafood in New England doesn't come as the size of a finger sandwich with five star restaurant prices. Mine had bay scallops in it! Bay scallops are those tiny scallops you buy when you can't afford the large sea scallops. My suggestion, save the trouble and go across the street to Alma Nove!
