This salon is a (not so hidden) gem and I am so thankful to have found it! They saved me at a time of hair crisis! After continuously giving my previous salon chance after chance to get it right, I finally decided it was time to make a change. Due to my very specific hair needs, not just any salon would do. Thank goodness for Kim and Tara at Trianon! I had long hand tied hair extensions at the time and continued to experience disappointment from my previous salon due to wefts detaching from my head, glue in my hair, overly cut locks, and more. I also have been getting my hair straightened with the Japanese style treatment for many years which is incredibly harsh and damaging (I'm currently growing it out). My last salon disregarded this and used products that were not gentle on my hair and basically fried it. I was not willing to give up my long extensions while also wanting a salon that would be sensitive to the harsh treatments in my hair and work with me to restore it to good condition once again. I found Kim through Bombshell Extension Co (they have a great reputation) and reached out. She took the time to consult with me both over the phone and in person. She was incredibly understanding, detail oriented, and thoughtful in her recommendations. She actually recommended a slightly different type of extension (even though she is certified in the kind I had) that she thought would more specifically meet my needs. I was super impressed with her right away and felt extremely comfortable putting my hair future in her hands. I have now had 2 appointments with Kim and Tara and can't wait for my third this weekend! Kim has been my savior and a dream come true! This woman's talent for installing hair extensions is just above and beyond! She is a hidden secret in Chicago and I feel lucky to have found her. The type of extension she recommended is perfect for my hair type, her install method is seamless, her attention to detail is impeccable, and the quality of hair far surpasses what I had before. My hair has never looked better! Tara has done my color and is so kind, knowledgeable and talented. What I really appreciate about her is that she is incredibly sensitive to the condition of my hair and prioritizes health first. I went to see Tara for highlights after having thoroughly messed up my hair on my own, and then I paid another salon loads of money to "fix it" - which amounted to them highlighting the heck out of it... bleach blonde was an under-statement. In other words, Tara had some obstacles before her in order to achieve my request (make the blonde highlights less blonde and more natural looking, AND grow out nicely). ha! From the get-go, Tara was really awesome at explaining (very patiently) all my options. She patiently partook in my "analyzing" the options (more like crazy over-analyzing). :) I was super nervous, but she never lost patience with me, never rushed me, nor got annoyed. And, after all that crazy over-analyzing, when she gave me her final advice on what to do, I felt confident following her advice. And it was clear that she had totally understood what I wanted. In the end, the highlights/lowlights came out great! I was really pleased. Tara was a total delight, she is easy to talk to but not the type to talk your ear off. The salon is small but beautiful and has a very pleasant & soothing atmosphere. I will definitely go back in the future. I can not stress enough how much I appreciate a stylist that actually listens to me and my concerns, and tries to achieve my goals not her/his vision. Tara definitely fulfills that role if that is something you value as well. Also, the salon uses some pretty awesome products, all natural/organic f/ Italy (I believe) called Davines. I loved those as well! I am not giving 5 stars only because I have only been once and should go again... but really my entire visit there and the outcome all equaled 5 stars. I also can not remember on the price and need to go again to see how to rate it. If I remember right, I am pretty sure Trianon does not nickel-and-dime you for every little thing, like highlights versus lowlights, or toner, blow-drying/styling, etc. But doublecheck to be sure on that when booking! I really enjoyed my first experience with John (color) and Ella (cut) -- the color held-up really well (I'm a redhead and that can be difficult) and the cut - well, let's just say - I no longer wear it in a ponytail - I love it! I gave Ella free reign to give me a new look and John to update my color. This week, had my second appointment with them -- I'm sold! Their attention to detail is incredible and they work with each client to ensure precision in both color and cut. And, I must say, the salon as a whole is great to work with. They are incredibly accommodating to clients --- they really do excel at customer service which is rare these days. I hate finding a new hairstylist. But after moving to Chicago last year, I didn't really have an option. Fortunately, I lucked out on my first try when Nicole at Trianon cut my hair. The salon itself is super clean and pretty. The girl who works at the front desk is so nice. In fact, everyone there is nice. The staff isn't gossipy or catty...just a lot of friendly people. I'm pretty picky about my hair. It's long and layered. And easy to screw up (believe me, it's happened before and it isn't pretty). Nicole has cut my hair 3 times and every time has been so wonderful! Although the salon isn't incredibly cheap, it's certainly worth spending $20/30 more than your average Chicago haircut for some really good hair. The name is strange. Not that it matters, but I had to get that out-of-the-way. I went there as a model, so I got a color for $20 by a colorist-in-training. I have a lot of gray, so I need allover color often and therefor have much experience with stylists-in-training. John was great, and I would rank him up with some seasoned professionals I have had. The place is very hipster, but not pretentious at all. And most of the stylist there come from Art and Science so you know, they know their stuff. Very pleased. Hope to model there again. read more

I'm an actress, so from jumping from role to role I was not allowed to alter my appearance...for about 2 years. Needless to say, this left my RIDICULOUSLY thick hair an absolute mess, it was really long, had no shape, and in general looked like it was about to eat me. Not kidding. Terrifying. I sat down with Abby and trusted her immediately, it was like getting a haircut from your best friend, but in this case your best friend knows what she's doing! I told her I had thought about donating my hair, but my hair is really thick so it gets puffy when it's short. She talked me through the whole thing and gave me the courage to do it! I just had my first haircut with Abby and it couldn't have been better! She really listened to what I wanted, offered suggestions and was so easy to talk to and sweet. Got an absolutely excellent haircut a couple of weeks ago from stylist in training, Noah. Went in looking for a curly asymmetrical bob and got just what I was hoping for. Cut off nearly 2 years of growth (I'd only had my hair trimmed since my wedding in 2011) and ended up with a super versatile style that's just long enough to pull back on hot days but keeps most of my hair off of my neck. It looks great air dried curly but can be styled into big, soft, glam waves with almost no effort. I'm so happy with it. The process takes a little longer with a new stylist but there's a master stylist there for direction at all times and Noah was friendly and great to work with. He definitely knows what he's doing. Getting a decent style with curly hair is nearly impossible for under $90 in Chicago so I was amazed. I'll definitely be going back to him once he gets a chair and starts booking clients. read more

Where do I start? I'm obsessed with this entire salon! I feel like I've been burned by a lot of salons in the past..and I was in desperate need of getting my hair colored/fixed but the daunting task of find a new salon was scary! I found Trianon on Yelp and messaged them with photos of what my hair looked like (yikes!) and what I was looking to do (get back to my natural color). The AMAZING owner of the salon, Pam, replied to within an hour of my message with a thoughtful message that she would have her receptionist, Julia get back to me in the AM with some more information! Julia totally did get back to me with everything I needed. I knew it was going to be a pricey visit, but she gave me a quote and some times that one of the stylists, Tara, could see me. I made an appointment with Julia via Yelp for within the next week! When I got to the salon it was an adorable, small salon that you could tell had a lot of positive vibes. I work in River North and I feel like a lot of salons there just get every $ you're worth. Not Trianon - I truly feel like they have such a great staff. Not only did I get to meet Julia who helped me schedule my appointment, Tara - my AMAZING stylist, but I got to meet the owner, Pam - who was so friendly and warm! Ugh - what a novel! But I have to brag about my new hair goddess TARA! She was absolutely amazing and told me straight up what we needed to do, what our options were, what she recommenced, etc. Even throughout the process, she had some additional questions and looped me in. She. Was. The. Bomb. Plus slightly my spirit animal because we bonded over how much we love snacks and I just totally wanted to hang out with her. My hair looks AMAZING. Every Stylist is wonderful there. This place has class!!! I have been a client of Trianon since it opened. I initially followed my colorist Pam there. Who is so nice, professional and creative. She really cares about the service she provides as well as the atmosphere at Trianon. Pam wants you to feel at home at all times. After her color treatments she wants to make sure you are satisfied, she takes to time to make sure you got what you came in for. At one point in my hair-coloring lifetime, I played around with Red highlights. Everyone knows Red is a tough color to keep (fades very quickly) she offered free touchups of toner in between my highlighting treatments, so I can keep up with the Red color I wanted. I was so very satisfied with her professionalism and her desire to take ownership of her work; I went back for the touch ups and was extremely happy with the service. I have recently been seeing Tara, a new colorist on the floor who is extremely TALENTED. Tara has the Creative gene running through her fingertips. I got the OMBRE color highlights that I absolutely LOVE! I get so many compliments on it; I started to carry her business card to refer people. She nailed the golden blond highlights to a tee. Not only is Tara good at coloring, Tara is exceptional with curling and styling hair. I went to her with a blow out and curl which lasted all evening for me. I was amazed at how well the curl held without 10 lbs of hair spray. A good friend of mine goes to Nicole for cuts and John for color, and she is extremely happy with their services. My friend and I have no reason to ever leave this salon, the talent here is just exceptional. Everyone is courteous, professional and all around just love what they do for their clients. The stylist all demonstrate their passion for hair services. Look no longer for a hair salon in Lincoln Park. I've gone to a bunch of hair stylists, and Ella Stauber is by far the best I've ever been to. She's almost telepathic - I've had this idea of what I have wanted my hair to look like for years now, and I've never gotten a cut that really hit the mark. From the very first time, Ella nailed it. I've been going back ever since, and every time the results are exactly the way that I want them. She's also an awesome person - really funny and a great conversationalist - and will make getting a haircut the highlight of your day. As a salon, Trianon is really nice. Pam's been coloring my hair for 10 years, at least, and she is the best at understanding what I want when we talk about changing things up. One of the best things about seeing Pam and the folks at Trianon is how comfortable I feel there. I relax in the most comfortable salon chair I've ever experienced, sip some white tea with orange essence (and sometimes sweeten it with a stick of rock candy - indulgence!) and just let her work her magic. We talk, and maybe I'll read a magazine or book; there's lovely music and a gorgeous crystal chandelier that reflects light throughout the space. Everyone's friendly and cheerful and creative - and thoughtful about everything they're doing. I can't recommend Trianon enough. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, the salon has a very elegant and cozy vibe, and Nicole was a rockstar! A few days after my appointment, I decided I wasn't happy with the way the cut looked, so I called back about it. The salon squeezed me into their schedule last-minute despite how busy they were, and Nicole redid my hair at no cost! Left the second time around 100% happy with my hair. Love, love, love. I found Trianon through Yelp and booked there with Tara for an Ombre hair appointment. I am so amazed & happy with the look Tara gave me. It's natural and beautiful and I can't stop looking at my hair and playing with it. She is so great at her job - I had never gotten my hair dyed before and she made it look so amazing that I will definitely go back for more. One tip for fellow Yelpers - Trianon doesn't let you tip on your card, which is totally fine, but I had no cash on me and was so embarrassed. More like a 1.3 This is a review on my hair cut. I don't want to elaborate on my disappointment, but basically, it was the worst haircut in my life. Nice girl, but if I'm trying soo hard to let you know how I do not want my hair to end up without offending you and yet it ends up exactly how I said I didn't want it to turn out and you kept insisting that "[you] understand exactly how [I] feel/what [I] mean," then yes, you barely deserve 2 stars on haircuts. I even had TWO pictures for her!! I seriously came home and sent massive profane texts to my sister for an hour because I was soooo mad that I paid so much and now had to put my hair in a ponytail until it grew out enough. Yes, sometimes a haircut just won't be that great, but I couldn't even cut it to fix it and not only that, when I put it in a ponytail, I looked like a raccoon!! UGH. Beautiful decorations inside. Mary Beth is the greatest! I dye my hair black and I'm a natural blonde. Weird things have happened in the past with other colors, like bright orange roots! Mary Beth knows exactly how to deal with my hair and my color comes out perfect every time. She's also super funny and very smart, so sitting in her chair for an hour isn't awkward at all.
