Truly the best salon!!! I found out about Trianon after googling best salons to get balayage done in Chicago and coming across a reddit article. I like to read reviews about the specific specialist doing my hair in addition to general reviews about the place, so I read several reviews about Tara before going in. Going in, I wanted a light, sun-kissed look with balayage that wasn't extremely harsh or bright. I have hair that is on the thinner side but naturally curly, so I wanted something that would look good with my natural as well as styled hair (as seen in the photo). Tara was absolutely amazing and the result is exactly what I wanted! She asked a lot of questions to make sure she knew what I had in mind and verified that I was satisfied with the result at every step! Another one of the stylists also curled my hair and on the way out, Pam (the owner) introduced herself and made sure I was happy with my experience. Overall, everyone was extremely welcoming and I'm so glad I chose Trianon. I would HIGHLY recommend this salon to anyone interested in highlighting/balayage. Honestly I've salon hopped at some of the high end salons in Chicago for a long time now because I'm never fully happy with the results of my hair until now. My hair is black but I've been a blonde for several years now. I've been all different shades of blonde but never the shade of blonde I want. However Johana completely transformed my hair today and it looks amazing! I can't stop looking at it because it so good! She was careful at foiling all of my head and made sure to diminish as much banding as possible due to my regrowth. Not only was she truthful about the process but she listened and gave me what I wanted as opposed to some of the stylists I've went to who dye my hair to what they like. I've been going to Pam at Trianon for about 3 years now, and it's hard to say what I love more - her elite coloring skills, her calm-but-hilarious personality, or her excellent staff. I'm a very, very platinum blond (have been for about 10yrs) and have very low tolerance for any deviation from this color, yet time and time again, Pam absolutely nails it. Plus, somehow she also manages to avoid significant bleach damage, meaning that I have a reasonably long ponytail that doesn't feel the least bit like straw. When I'm looking for a cut, I go to Caleb - he's a delightfully intuitive wizard with a pair of scissors, and manages to make my hair feel effortlessly stylish, shiny, and cool at the same time. Honestly, I don't know why an IL-based blond would bother with any other salon in Chicago - these guys are the creme de la creme...but maybe I shouldn't tell you this, because it'll be harder for me to get an appointment? :-) NB: during this time of COVID-19, Trianon is doing a wonderful job of making all clients feel safe. They have excellent sanitary precautions in place, with clear guidelines and zero tolerance for stupid risks. Best haircut I've ever had, hands down. I have long textured hair and full bangs that I'm incredibly picky about, and Abby has knocked it out of the park every time. After years of trying other salons/stylists who ignored my wishes, and frankly just didn't cut my hair right, finding Trianon was a dream come true. Aside from having a lovely personality, she listens, has a vision, and is most importantly meticulous--a trait you really want your hairstylist to have when you want a perfect fringe! Ever since going here I've had a totally new confidence in my hair and overall look. The salon itself has a great vibe. I found Kim through gilt city maybe 3ish years ago.....and have gone no where else since. She is so good dealing with my thick long hair and I trust her to cut it how it needs to to stay healthy without cutting too much. She never makes me feel bad if it's been too long since my last cut and she has such a good memory about my life, which is always nice to feel like youre hanging out with a friend who is cutting your hair. I gave another "high end" salon a few tries and the last one was a crime scene. It was so bad all I could do was hide in my house and shampoo with miracle gro, hoping the warning label was only a suggestion. Okay I didn't do that, but I did invest in hats. Lots of hats. I lucked out with Abby the magician who thankfully understood intuitively exactly what it is I was trying to get at through my blubbering and frantic gesturing. I know absolutely nothing about how to describe what cut I want, or hell, how to even select a flattering cut to be honest. This is why I try to rely on the wisdom of seasoned professionals to tell me "no honey, that would look terrible. How about we try this angle and then you can get that length without looking like you're about to ask for my manager." Abby took a cut (no, it was a "chop") that had grown into something resembling a cheap, forgotten wig, and found the decent full body hair underneath that I was afraid was gone forever. While booking, Julia was super helpful, professional and friendly on each phone call. The atmosphere is super clean, warm and cozy. The foyer and greeting is really welcoming. I had highlights done by Pam, a senior colorist and salon owner.Only at home I realized, that half of my head was missing highlights.I was upset about my looks. On next appointment with Pam she did not acknowledge her mistake, neither she apologized. She said: "It's OK. It's nothing to be upset about , it is just your hair color." She corrected everything and did not charge me for that. But her cold and disrespectful attitude made me change the salon. read more

I recently moved to Chicago and have been searching for someone to do my color. After consulting with a few stylists, who I found mainly from Yelp reviews and word of mouth, I chose Pam at Trianon. Pam is the owner of this salon. I recently needed my color stripped after going too dark, which left me with a mess of brassiness. I am trying to get back to my natural ash brown, which I understand this is a difficult task to achieve. Pam promised that although she might not be able to get rid of the warmth, I would not be left with significantly darker hair. She could not have been further off. I left the salon with hair that was (and still is) close to black. In fact, it's now back to the color it was before I had it stripped! The worst part of the experience was that I called the next day to complain and Pam never even called me back. It's a shame and I'm embarrassed I trusted her so much. read more

Well, John at Trianon is that person. John is an amazingly talented colorist and just a delight to spend a few hours with. He talked with me about what I wanted to fix (grays, a grown out box dye-job that left my dark brown hair reddish at the ends) and walked me through what he was doing as it was happening. I am IN LOVE with the results of a few hours in his chair... subtle, lovely highlights and an overall color that looks natural, only prettier. I have taken a very selfish 3-year hiatus from yelping because I was going through my entitled quarter-life misanthropic phase; and because, generally speaking, I'm not a very helpful person. Leave it to Ella Stauber to bring me back to a better place. Home girl is smokin' hot. Seriously, I could stare at her all. day. long. You may think this is not relevant information, but you would be wrong. I used to sit down in a stylist's chair and think, "You have one job to do." But that was when I was young and idealistic and foolishly thought that most people were um, "good" at their chosen profession. Ha! I know, right? What a dumbass! So, imagine my incredulity at the fact that EVERY time I leave Ella's chair, it's like the best... haircut... ever!!!! (Yes, count 'em, 4 !) I'm not prone to hyperbole (ok, that's obviously a lie) but I'm not quite sure how to express how truly fantastic Ella is. She take my very strange, unhelpful directives (e.g. korean mullet, battle royale bangs, can you fix what I did when I got drunk last thursday???) and turns out something really, really good that requires very little maintenance (by now, you've probably inferred that this is not something I'm good at.) So it's also worth noting that an Ella haircut looks as good 3 months later as it does the day I walk out the door. I'm not sure how she does it, but somehow she holds the secret on how to make a grown-out cut look good. It's like magic, I think. read more

Okay, first off this review is only for the color services as I've yet to have a cut here but WOW what a great experience! I had an opportunity to have my hair colored by the adorable and delightful Tara and was really thrilled with my results. I was feeling a little dumpy and had the winter blahs with no other viable "color me now" options when Tara appeared like a light at the end of the tunnel. I gave her free reign to express herself and let her have at it and wow, what a great job she did. First off, I don't even remember what my natural hair color is so it was anyone's guess but Tara nailed it. Photos located after I went to the dark side confirmed that she nailed my natural hair color AND my natural highlights spot on. She took my tired old highlights and refreshed them with a rich and beautiful brunette with just a touch of copper highlights to lighten up the face. On my second visit she perfectly blended my outgrowth (okay, it was kind of g-wordish) with the rest of my hair and added a few gentle foils to soften me up just a tad more. What really took this experience over the top was the fact that Tara is still finishing her coloring training so I got a really spectacular job for an amazing price. And I will always be grateful for that, however, her and her mentor Pam informed me what the prices will be once she completes the training portion and it was unbelievably fair and certainly worth the price. The salon itself is very quaint and feminine with soft peach walls gilded mirrors and black lacquer accent. The ambient music was soothing and actually something I'd love on my Ipod play list. Products are fantastic and I assure they smell delightful as I have been smelling my hair all day! I need to go back and get some of the Sea Salt spray so I can properly achieve the sexy, natural beach hair look she pulled off for me. I have driven past this little salon for quite some time and often peeked in while waiting for traffic I would highly recommend this sexy little salon for a date with dazzling hair and first class customer service and creative color. read more

Well not A-OK. More like just OKAY. I almost feel bad b/c everyone was so nice but honestly I just wasn't happy with my highlights. I did the Gilt City deal with was around $65 for highlights. Which is an amazing deal, if you get good highlights. I definitely didn't and was really disappointed in the job. I wanted to complain but felt like I shouldn't because it was a cheap deal. In hindsight I probably should have. I did give Trianon 3 stars though because I did get a haircut too, and while the highlights were terrible the haircut was good. I really like the style too. So I guess you win some you lose some. read more

Mary Beth is awesome! I was excited to use my GILT City highlights package but nervous about going to a new colorist. The second I saw Mary Beth I knew I was going to be okay. She really listens to the type of look that you are going for, and does her very best to create it. She is extremely knowledgeable...about color, hair health, and what looks good on clients. Almost better than her work is her personality! Mary Beth is a breath of fresh air and it was hard to leave the salon because I just kept wanting to chat with her! I have been going to Nicole for 5 years now- I followed her from her past salon, and will continue to follow her wherever she goes. I'm convinced she gives the best haircut in the country. I know that's a lot of hype, and hyping someone up that much is dangerous- everyone has a bad day now and then. But Nicole has simply always delivered the most amazing, beautiful, PERFECT cuts I've ever had. In 20 years of getting my hair cut in a salon, she is the ONLY person who can perfectly mirror layers in a shaggy boho cut, duplicate a futuristic precision cut after I let it grow too long, and graduate refined layers on a girl with a rat's nest of dead, damaged bushy hair. I've asked her for every weird/trendy/not trendy haircut I can come up with, and she always accommodates (although she's totally comfortable suggesting some tiny tweak that will turn my idiotic idea into a perfectly lovely one). Sometimes I'm afraid she's going to start her own salon and start charging $1000 a cut, but until that happens, make Trianon your new home. I'm so lucky I found her, and now you are too! read more

Just tried Trianon for the first time yesterday, after buying a Gilt coupon. I have to say, everything from the service to the atmosphere, to my colorist was amazing. Mary Beth is not only sweet, calm, professional, and knowledgeable...but she chose the perfect color for my single process touch up and matched it to my natural hair color. She works quickly and thoroughly and explains every single step in the her process and technique. She's not over bearing and has a warm energy...I am definitely coming back. The service and atmosphere of Trianon is great as well--friendly staff, clean salon, and an intimate environment create the perfect experience for this Lincoln Park gem. This place is cute cute cute. The atmosphere is very stylish, boutique, and friendly. There is some serious attention to detail in the decor and they carry that attention to detail over to the services. For the first time ever I decided to have a little faith and be a model for a haircut. My last cut (at a different salon) had resulted in way too many layers so after many months of growing them out I needed a cut I could live with. The stylist, Tara (yes same name as me!), did a great job and gave me a hair style that I can actually work with. I will admit that it was comforting that the owner was consistently checking the cut and making sure that it was at a high standard. Back to the decor - the warmth of the peach walls, perfectly lined up pretty bottles of product, chandelier, ghost chairs, and framed mirrors all work together to create a beautiful setting.
