I've been to Trata more times than I can count. It has good food, drinks and atmosphere but sometimes the service and policies are a bit of a miss. For example, My friends and I went yesterday during happy hour on purpose. We also wanted to eat dinner. Well turns out you can't enjoy both here. So we sat down and asked about the drink specials and the server said he "sorry, you can only enjoy that at the bar." Okay, can we get our drinks at the bar and eat at the table? "No". Well, that's a stupid policy. My friends and I debated abandoning the table, leaving our server a small tip for bringing waters and sitting at the bar, but then we felt bad doing that. So now your patrons are put in an awkward spot, Trata! We each decided to only get one drink on principle, eat dinner, and go. I guess on the plus side we all saved money by not needing our Lyft rides too. Our server was nice, the food was fine... but we would have spent more money and enjoyed ourselves more if the happy hour was for the entire restaurant. Maybe, rethink it. Thanks! read more

We've been to Trata's several times now. My favorite part about this place is the rooftop bar! Location: Easy to get too - right off 490 at Culver. Easy to exit as well! Plenty of parking. Bar: Cocktail menu is extensive! Great choice of beer and liquor. This year's favorite: Porch Pounder! Cucumber vodka, meyer lemon, tarragon and soda. Almost like drinking lemonade. It's very refreshing! They have a bar downstairs and also on the roof top. Roof top bar has plenty of seating and you can eat there as well. If you sit in the right place you can see the ponds and fountains in Cobbs Hill Park. Food: I've only ever had appetizers here. Let's start with our last visit: Sauteed Calamari. Totally not what we expected (but maybe I should have paid attention to "sauteed") It came out barely luke warm, covered in black beans, peppers and corn. I guess maybe if it was actually warm I might have liked it. Too rubbery and "raw?" for my taste. All good though because they took it back no questions and we ordered the grilled wings. EXCELLENT swap for us! The wings were perfected cooked and had a char on them from the grill. We also ordered Steamed Buns. Yes, we were curious... slow roasted pork belly with hoisin, sriracha mayo, pickled cucumbers and crumbled cashews. So good... but we're still trying to figure out what the "bun" was made of! Went to Trata last night for my birthday! It was a great place. The vibe was moody, just how I like it and our servers were amazing. They were so sweet and checked on us several times to ensure we had everything we needed. My boyfriend and I tried the soft pretzels, chicken lettuce wrap, burger, and chicken Milanese. Everything was great! I can't remember what burger my bf ordered but I had a few bites and I think it was my favorite thing lol the chicken Milanese was good but could've used some extra seasoning. This is my 3rd time visiting Trata. I love dining on the rooftop, but this time weather didn't allow it. Inside the restaurant is nice, but I definitely prefer dining on the roof. My food was good. It came out quickly. I ordered the grilled cheese with tomato soup. The soup had to much nutmeg so it took away from the elements of the roasted tomato. My white cosmo was excellent. Beyond just enjoying typing TRATA repeatedly, this spot has great drinks and duck quesadillas that are seriously to die for. You can sit at a cozy table and enjoy great dinner service OR pop a squat at the bar for a drink. I will also sometimes opt for a veggie burger with sweet potato fries. The first time I came here was a few years ago and was a dining experience I still haven't forgotten. Things were taking just a LITTLE bit longer than they should have - nothing major and my date and I were there to sit and enjoy the evening. The server was so grateful for our patience she comped our drinks and brought us this super tasty chocolate dessert. I've been to Trata dozens of times over the years, but today it was just terrible. The service was great, so I have to give 2 stars for that. However, the food was just awful. I ordered the Nashville fried chicken sandwich with the parmesan broccolini. The chicken was hard/overcooked, then drenched in a thick, nearly black, bbq sauce. (I've had this entree before and it was delicious, with a nice juicy cut of chicken and a light bbq sauce.) The broccolini was cold, bitter, and tasteless. My boyfriend and I came to Trata almost 10pm last night and food was all worth for the late night! When we came to restaurant and the lady in the bar told us that booths are closed but we can eat at bar. The menu had a lot of choices to pick and a wine & beer list. We decided to pick wine and two meals. The waiting for food wasn't that longer and we got appetizer and entree at same time. I have to admit that I was kind of skeptical of duck quesadilla because I normally would order peeking duck with mandarins pancakes and hosin sauce. This is definitely a huge change for me and I decided to give a try. I was totally glad that I did!!! The veggie burger with lettuce wrapped (I normally would omit buns for hot dogs and burgers and replace with lettuce) and duck quesadilla were so delicious that I could feel like I have died and have gone up to the heavens!!!! Kudos to these chefs who made them! Try the duck quesadillas and steamed buns to start. I like their burgers, scallops, and short rib. Definitely get a side of fries and mac cheese. Brussels sprouts are also highly recommended! When I worked downtown, this was a favorite place for work functions. This was my 3rd time to TRATA, but my first time in the bar area. The happy hour deals were awesome! The beer wall was the most amazing thing I have seen at any bar yet! Serve yourself and the high quality IPA's were very cheap during Happy Hour. I had 3 different IPA's for $11 total. The Nashville chicken sandwich was good but not like the one I had in Nashville last weekend!! My fiancé could not stop raving about the tomato soup. We ordered a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and the wagyu burger. The Nashville Hot tastes like sweet and sour or General Tso, with a hint of spiced flare - Nothing like any take on a Nashville Hot I've ever had, and not in a good unique way. The flavor was fine, though not what it's supposed to be. They use large cubed pickles which is not good for a sandwich as they fall off easily. My biggest issue was that the sandwich was just tossed into a large container with no protection to gold it together - a smaller container or wrapped in a piece of parchment would have been logical. The wagyu burger was good, though it was ordered medium rare and arrived EXTRA rare, like soft to the touch rare (the picture did not save). So it was good, just not cooked to order. The Cesar salad I got seemed to have an in house dressing which I liked, though the rustic in house croutons were so stale and hard they could barely be eaten. If you like "fancy bar food", try it out, but I recommend eating in as the take out experience was not encouraging. read more

Most recently enjoyed brunch here with my mother. This morning, actually. I had made reservations about a week and a half ago and requested booth seating, and when we arrived at 11:30 we were taken directly to our booth. The restaurant had a good amount of people, but I expected it to fill up quickly once noon rolled around (and it certainly did). Between my mother and I, we ordered the basket of soft baked pretzels, the fried chicken and waffle, the side of brussels sprouts, and the buttermilk fried chicken. I had been craving a good chicken & waffle brunch dish for a while, so I was hoping for TRATA to appease that craving. Unfortunately, the chicken from the chicken and waffles wasn't quiiiiiiiite as crispy/crunch as I would have wanted, but the dish was generally tasty. Besides that though, the dishes were very good. The most memorable part? My mother had ordered the special jam of the day to eat with her biscuits, and I tested the jam (blackberry clove flavor) with a piece of my waffle. It was SO GOOD. At the end of the meal, we even had a good amount of jam left and I asked the server if there were any little "to go" cups so that I could take the jam home. She was happy to pack it up in a little container, much to my delight. :) Beyond the food, I really like the atmosphere and look of this restaurant. There are multiple levels, so the restaurant has a loft-style to it. The drinks (mimosas, as well as my trying the "booze and buzz," a mix of French roast coffee, Black Button Bourbon Creme, and Cardamom bitters) were a delicious addition to brunch, and the staff was really welcoming. Went here with my man thinking it'd be a lovely spot to rewind after an extremely long week at work. The place was gorgeous and our waitress was wonderful but that's where it stops. We got our food and both of ours was very lukewarm/cold. The steak was over cooked and when i was eating my mashed potatoes i noticed a hair in my mouth that was most definitely not mine (completely different color) and immediately lost all my appetite. I brought it up to my waitress and she apologized but no discount or anything was offered. I have to say my last two times here were complete failures. I'll explain the last time I was here. Came here at 7:30. Had a reservation at 8:00. We were told to wait at the bar, get a drink. So we did since we were of course early. Then at 7:55 we ask for our table and we are seated. This place would be good but personally not a fan of the service. The service is slow, they'll give you a table and then forget about you. Waited almost twenty minutes to be recognized at a table (and yes we got seated by a host) and to finally get a food order in. That's nuts. I complained to the hostess, the hostess assured me she'd fix it... Had to still wait a while. Did our food come quickly for a simple order? No... It came around another 20-30 minutes. Asked to use the beer wall, and the waiter comes and slaps the card on our table like he's playing whack-a-mole on our table and before we can even ask how to use it, he's already gone like his pants are on fire... Insane. The server doesn't seem that interested in you even after we waited 20 minutes. Runs by and asks how we are... How are we even supposed to answer? He's already gone by the time we can even process the question. I get what it's like to work waiting tables at high demand, but this is inexcusable. I'd be fired if I did that. I'm not being unreasonable to say that I would like my waiter to perhaps give me five seconds of his busy schedule. It seemed like every other table of his was being served quite well and they were eating just fine. Maybe will come back, but every time it's been either "oh seat yourselves and order at the bar" or whoopsie we forgot to give you a server. Yikes. Felt like I lit my money up in flames for fun. Actually, scratch that... It wasn't fun at all. Save your money. Even the street hotdog vendor has better service and it feels like you're being served by a person and not an automaton. I'll end on a positive note - The ambiance is pretty alright and the rooftop bar is fun for drinks and snacks. I've gone with many friends to the rooftop to hangout. Most of the staff seems nice except for certain rude waiters. It is truly a shame they haven't fixed their service problems with certain waiters since the food is pretty good and the ambiance is alright. If you do decide to spend your money, do it at the bar. That's probably the only place I've experienced friendly service. Ensure your order is cooked properly and don't be afraid to flag down your waiter like you're playing charades with the family at 10 p.m. Perhaps get a megaphone. read more

They do have a good vibe here, it's classy and they are lgbt ‍ friendly. I had to try their eggs Benedict which made out of clearly poached eggs with pork belly and biscuits. Pre-vegan, I really enjoyed Trata's food and cocktails. Post-vegan, I was worried to even step foot in here for food. I heard throughout the vegan community that they had no options for us. However, a few weeks ago, I came here for a work meeting. I was ready to give a super complicated order to the server when he overheard me say "vegan", and he mentioned that Trata had just included a vegan risotto to the menu. It wasn't written on the menu yet, but they started offering it to fulfill the vegan demand. About time! Being in their location and considering the crowd that goes in there, vegan options just seemed mandatory! The risotto was pretty good! A large portion and the veggies in it tasted very fresh. I also ordered a side of fries, which were good. And the Mexican Artillery could have been spicier, but I enjoyed that as well. Hopefully, Trata will continue to add vegan items to their menu. They're excluding a decent-sized population from the ROC community! We're willing to spend $$ on some good food so ... just a thought! read more

For their happy hour, I love their happy hour nachos which are super cheap at 5 dollars.
