My best friend treated my sister and I to a head spa for our birthday and it was such a stress-free experience booking at this place! It was awesome that they had a dual room to do the head treatment. When my sister and I came in, they used the probe to look deeply into our scalp and because my sister needed extra attention, we opted into the more expensive Japanese treatment. Summer did my head spa, she was really nice and loved her techniques! 75 minutes went by so quickly. They took us to our room where we got comfortable and I was very impressed with how clean everything was. There was a neck massage and she placed an eye mask on me. I was so relaxed and my scalp has never looked better! She used distention combs and brushes and the face massage was also really nice. She blow dryed my hair with a Dyson and straightened my bangs because they got really curly. I ended up getting membership and will be returning with my sister for another head spa treatment!
I came here yesterday for a Japanese purifying scalp treatment. The first floor is the picture and styling area, while the second floor has the treatment rooms. I was the only one getting a treatment at that time so the whole place was quiet and calm with soft music playing in the background. The ladies were all nice and friendly I have psoriasis on my scalp and it's been feeling extra dry and itchy lately so I needed a refresh (as well as booking an appt at my derm). Annie took pictures of my scalp, while another lady also looked at the pictures and noticed my sleep has been off based on how dry my scalp was. Annie did my scalp treatment. She had great pressure during the scalp and neck/shoulder massage. She was gentle but effective when using tools on my scalp. The 'waterfall' was as relaxing as I hoped it would be. I do wish I could hear the music better, especially when she's not running water. I think it would be even more relaxing. My scalp felt so clean after and the pictures proved it! It was shiny and there wasn't dandruff built up. I would definitely come back and also get the facial next time!
Easy to make appointments online. They have a room for 2 people and it was 20% for first time visit this month. Had no idea what to expect. I usually don't do things like this. It was a wonderful experience. Walked in a little early and they were ready for us. We sat in the 2 chairs next to each other and they did the photos of our scalp, looking so close at your scalp is pretty cool. Then you go inside the room to change out of your top and put on their wrap. They do an hour of scalp treatment and massage on shoulders, head and neck. Then they blow dry and do the photos of your scalp again. The before and after pictures are so cool! Annie and Angela were great and we will come back. Thank you!!
I was in the area for work and forgot to pack my hair products (hotel conditioners don't cut it for me). I have fine, wavy hair and I've been two DIFFERENT head spa I went to in the US and two in India that had no idea how to handle my hair. I saw all the good reviews here and that they offer multiple services so I figured this would hopefully be better. And it was! I got the Korean treatment because I liked that it came with a massage. I'd say the massage had moments of light pressure and harder pressure; if you want light pressure only be sure to tell them (Annie asked me if I was okay with it). Annie and I chatted a bit during the initial scalp review where i mentioned once I liked to keep my hair more natural/not straightened. When she was doing the end styling, she remembered that and didn't straighten my hair (first time a head spa has done that). And while we first looked at my scalp, I was telling her I had dry hair and she agreed. So during my hair treatment she let the hair mask sit for a good chunk of time. There was another client who had much curlier hair than me and he also seemed pleased with his service, but I would call ahead to talk to them on how you want your hair done. Annie was very communicative and open to discussion. Products were high quality and they dried my hair with a Dyson hair wrap. Because this was treatments focused, there wasn't a lot of time remaining for drying/styling so if that's important to you, I'd mention it (it wasn't to me so I was fine with it). I don't live in the area, but highly recommend it to people who do. I'm so glad I finally went to a head spa that didn't straighten my hair, had diffusers, and knew to add some oil at the end to make sure my hair stayed hydrated for longer. This wasn't an issue for me, but their treatment area is upstairs so be careful if you have mobility issues. Otherwise can't recommend this place enough!
I had an excellent experience at Transforms Head & Beauty Spa with Annie, the Head Therapist. She started out with analyzing my hair- I had just taken a shower, so my scalp was clean with the exception of a few dry flakes! There were no angry red patches, which she informed me can be caused by restlessness/poor sleep quality. Overall she said my scalp and hair was healthy, even the bleached portions of it (since I have partial highlights). I initially booked the Korean hair care treatment but decided to upgrade to the Japanese purifying scalp treatment since they mentioned that the hair product being used penetrates the hair strand and follicle a lot deeper than the Korean product. It was also around 15 minutes longer and cost $30 more, I wasn't in a rush so I decided to go for it. She started off with a deep scalp massage to increase bloodflow and worked her way down to my shoulders with massage oil, asking if I was comfortable the entire time and if she needed to go lighter or harder on the pressure. She then put a self-heating eye mask over my eyes, it was so comfortable! She proceeded to work all the scalp product into my hair. The water got on my eye mask and it got a bit soggy, but that wasn't a big deal. She then asked me how I wanted to style my hair, straight or curly. I opted for curly and I love it! She proceeded to style my hair with the Dyson Airwrap. They've stayed intact for over a day and are so cute. I would definitely come back here if I had time. The women here speak Cantonese and Mandarin and are incredibly friendly.
Huge shoutout to Annie & Amelie for their fantastic work! Me and my friend signed up for their Japanese scalp treatment and facial. We were taken into a private room and changed. They were extremely helpful in setting us up and communicative about their pressure when scrubbing our heads. My head felt super light and refreshing afterward. We both analyzed our scalps before and the after results were astonishing. (pic included) Definitely recommend anyone who is in need of any treatments for scalps or facials!!

The analysis done had a great explanation and the before-and-after photos are great so you can see the difference the treatment does. My hair and scalp were so clean after! After you're done they blow dry and then give you the option if you want to straighten or curl your hair. Ask if they have any promos going on. The pricing is what brought me thru the door, but the service is what made me sign up for membership. Will definitely be coming back again! I recommend to anyone who is trying out for the first time or even a repeat person.

My friend even ended up signing up for a membership. I've only tried one other head spa before, but this one felt like a much better experience - it was more than just a hair wash. I actually got a really good massage, too!
There is street and garage parking nearby. I have passed this place many times going to Pilates. I been to a head spa before, but love how convenient and close this location is. I had an amazing experience at the Korean head spa! The scalp massage was incredibly relaxing, and the deep cleansing treatment left my scalp feeling fresh and rejuvenated. The whole atmosphere was soothing, and the attention to detail was fantastic. It's the perfect way to unwind and treat yourself - my partner and I left feeling completely refreshed and loved seeing the scalp analysis afterwards! Highly recommend! Currently there is a promo going on for 2 scalp treatments for $169. Perfect time to check it out with a friend.
Transforms isn't just used in their name, you really do feel better about yourself afterwards. I had booked a facial for my mother for her bday present and had opted for a scalp therapy session for myself. The entire experience from start to finish was delightful and I'd highly suggest a visit if you're contemplating it. Located in Downtown San Mateo, this Spa is easy to come to and in a great area - once you're complete with your session you can easily walk around and grab a bite to eat. Parking is all along the streets and metered. The inside of this place was cozy and inviting. They have water bottles and madeline cookies on the table for guests to take. After confirming our services, they took my mom upstairs for her facial and I stayed downstairs to start my scalp therapy. I won't go into step-by-step details about the service, but I will say that the before and after of my scalp was eye opening and I truly felt like this experience was well worth the money. My mom also had a great time conversing with her person during her facial as they all spoke mandarin and that allowed her to be comfortable. It is expensive, but I feel for what you're getting it's well worth the money and it's nice to treat yourself once in a while.

Came again and it was long overdue! I have been so busy since my last visit, but I finally came back today for the Japanese purifying scalp treatment. My therapist, Summer, is amazing. She remembered me and carefully examined my scalp, then clearly explained how I should take care of it. The treatment was so relaxing that I actually fell asleep. It is truly the best scalp treatment in the Bay Area. You have to try it and book with Summer. She is the best! read more

They're currently doing a holiday promo of a dual Korean scalp treatment for $169 and it's an absolute steal. It's very cheap compared to its local competitors. The store is very modern, clean, and well decorated for the holidays. We worked with Annie and Amelie and although both speak English well (Amelie moderately better than Annie's), I do think that you would benefit the most if you spoke Mandarin. They gave me a very detailed explanation of my scalp's condition and what they recommended I do to improve my scalp quality. The treatment itself was 60 minutes including a face massage, neck and shoulder massage, head massage, shampoo twice, conditioner, and wrapping it up with a small back massage. Afterwards, they blow dry your hair and even curl your hair for you if you want. They do a final scalp analysis and you can truly see the difference before and after. read more

My friend & I came for the dual moraccon treatment special, after Annie & Amelie analyzed both our scalps seeing that it was very dry and with dandruff they recommended upgrading to the dual Japanese purifying scalp treatment to really exfoliate the scalp and get rid of the dandruff. We were able to be in the same room side by side going through the entire treatment together. It was about 75 mins total from wash, massage and styling after. Annie & Amelie were very honest and constantly made sure we were feeling good through the entire service. Would definitely recommend coming to this headspa. Will definitely return and probably try their facial treatments as well! read more

After a stressful and crazy week I decided to book a last minute Korean hair spa here at Transforms. Amelie took our booking last minute and I'm so thankful she accommodated my husband and I. There is a current promo going on that combines Korean hair spa and a facial. It was about an hour and 15 minutes. Omg I think my husband and I are both in agreement we will be returning at least monthly if we can afford it. The scalp analysis was an added bonus. The hair spa was very thorough and the facial was freaking amazing! Angela and Amelie did such an extraordinary job that I almost want to gatekeep this place to myself. I will certainly take the rest of my family members here. We had such a relaxing and amazing experience. We can't wait for our next one! Thanks Amelie and Angela! What an amazing experience! I took my mom here for her birthday on 12/31 and it was our first time at a head spa. The spa was very clean and looked so relaxing. We sat and waited a couple minutes and there was water and cookies on the table. They had us sit down and they immediately did a scalp analysis and WOW. I knew my scalp wasn't the best but it really showed us everything up close! It was so cool. They then took us into the back room where they had 2 beds with blankets, slippers, and a towel wrap to put on after changing. They tucked us in and the head spa and massage began! I had goosebumps the whole time. The head and shoulder massage and hair washing felt great. We had Amelia and Annie (I think) and they were fantastic. My scalp feels so clean now! I can't believe how much build up there was! There was a dual head spa promo going on at the time this review was written so it was a great deal. Even without the promo, I'll be coming back regularly. It was an amazing experience. I forgot to take a before photo of the spa room but the beds were nicely maid with out towel wrap and slippers waiting for us. read more

Transform is one of the best self care centers I've been to in the US. Emily and Angela were professional and welcoming, and their touch was firm but comfortable on my scalp, shoulders, and neck. This was my first scape treatment (custom Korean scalp), and the results were mind blowing. So clean. They also have an instagram special. We are DEFINITELY coming back here once a month. Even the toilet paper was double ply in the spotless restroom and the soap and lotion was cool, too. Thank you! Best shop ever. read more
