They call me if I forget an appointment. Getting a call is very helpful, as I might miss text messages. My massage therapist is Amber. She offers deep tissue massage and it is extremely effective. I have consistently had tightness especially on my right shoulder blade area and it has been bothering me in the past 20+ years. Ever since I started getting massage from Amber, while it's still there (well, it will never goes away, as partially it comes from using mouse everyday), but well, it doesn't bother me at all. It's a huge difference for me. She give me advice on stretching, bed setting to reduce muscle tightness. I've been a part of Elements' membership plan for over a decade now and due to a recent move to SF, had banked up a number of hours to use. I decided to use them to supplement my PT appointments. Because I was scheduling my massages in tandem with PT, I was taking any therapist available. This is how I was placed with Ryan. From the first moment, I just knew this massage was going to be good. Ryan has a firm hand but always checks in to see if the pressure is good. He spent a perfect amount of time working out knots on my problem areas so much that I fell asleep a few times during my session. I received a massage from Garion and requested a strong deep tissue massage, but the experience was quite different from the deep tissue massages I've experienced in the past. On the front side of the body, the treatment mostly consisted of light pressing and oil strokes, and I honestly did not feel much muscle release. The back side was somewhat stronger, but the pressure felt unbalanced. There were moments when one spot was pressed very intensely, while other areas received very little attention. He did check in frequently about pressure, and I tried to communicate my preferences as clearly as possible. However, because the pressure was inconsistent, it was sometimes too painful and other times too light, and constantly having to adjust it became stressful, so I eventually gave up. Additionally, Garion's breathing technique was quite unique. Having someone's breath on my face and body was not a comfortable experience for me. After returning home, I became curious about Garion's style and took another look at the staff page, where I saw that his unique approach is clearly explained. I acknowledge that I should have read it more thoroughly beforehand. However, when I explained my needs, the staff recommended Garion without mentioning his distinctive style. That said, both Garion and the staff were very polite and professional, and there were no issues with their attitude or service. The price ($129 + tip for one hour) feels reasonable for San Mateo. I think his style may work very well for people who enjoy or specifically seek that type of massage. Unfortunately for me, my main concern, lower back pain was not relieved, and I will be looking elsewhere for another massage soon. read more

Review for Danielle: She's horrible. I had a 90 mins session; she started at 7pm and ended at 8:11pm. Not only did she NOT massage any part of my body except for my upper back and pecks. But she poked rather than massaging. And talks NON STOP! If there wasn't a misunderstanding with my Mom whom I thought recommended Danielle; I would have walked out after 10mins. Normally I don't leave reviews for services, but since I went twice and was disappointed twice, I figured I would write a review to help the business improve. The good things: Receptionist was super friendly, place was clean and really nice, rooms were quiet and spacious, bed was comfortable. The bad things: so I had two massages with two different masseuses. The first, she immediately started talking once getting into the room from racist comments to the current state of the country. I'm not sure if because I'm young, she thought I would bash things with her, but I come to massages to relax, not for a conversation. The massage itself was fine but I left less than relaxed. I decided to go back because I did like the place and location and try a different masseuse. He didn't talk which was great but he moved so quickly, and finished 15 minutes early. Since it's not cheap, I didn't get my money's worth. I won't be returning for a third attempt, but while the massages were fine, I would research the masseuse ahead of time if possible. read more

I went for a prenatal massage at around 37 weeks pregnant. I told the workers over the phone I was pregnant and they informed me I needed a doctors note to show that it was still okay for me to get a massage which I did. When I arrived at Element, they took me in the room, the massage therapist stated they were not aware I was 37 weeks pregnant and the therapist felt a bit uncomfortable at first but ultimately decided to go through with it after they mumbled something. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication but the way the therapist expressed their feelings put me off. I shook it off since I was already there and I had a gift card to use for this. The massage was okay, and the service was alright. I don't know if I would come back. read more

I recently had a massage with Lauren after seeing generally positive reviews. Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience. The massage started with some small talk, which I'm used to, but then the conversation didn't stop. I didn't lead the conversation at all with the hope that she would read the room, but that didn't help. Topics ranged from a possibly sensitive political issue to her issues with family dynamics/history. I didn't feel relaxed at all throughout the 1 hour of the massage. The purpose of the massage was to quiet the noise of the world and get some relaxation, and it's frustrating that I wasn't able to experience that. For the relatively high price of massages nowadays, it's unfortunate when you don't have a good experience. read more
