Dessert Platter. Fruit tart & chocolate bar are delicious!

An adorable cabin tucked away in the woods. We had no idea that this was Ernest Hemingway's personal hunting cabin turned fancy-schmancy restaurant. *Queue English teacher nerd out* There is a fixed price for dinner (expensive) and you get four courses. 1st course: gratin. Your server comes to your table with a cast-iron skillet with gratin (I had to google it-- it's delicious, melted cheese) a flame to melt the cheese, potatoes, cauliflower, bread and two kinds of butter. You might feel kind of full after this course. Must power through. 2nd course: soup or salad. I opted for the cabin salad with ranch. It's the perfect size and was the fanciest house salad I ever had. Hello curly-cut carrots! 3rd course: the entree. I ordered the root vegetable shepherd's pie. Delicious. It was topped with sweet potatoes (YES!) and asparagus. Asparagus weren't exactly cooked. Maybe they were just a garnish? Still enjoyed it. 4th course: you'll want to tap out at this point, but you must prevail. Sweet treats await you. I finished off my meal with three small pastries. The fruit tart and chocolate bar were . Don't know if we'll return, as the price was $$$$, but was happy to have experienced eating at Ernest Hemingway's hunting cabin.

Even for families…read more The entrees were fantastic and they even allow them to be split and they divide it into two entrees which was fantastic for my wife and daughter who are lighter eaters. The pork chop was a favorite, and the baked potatoes are Idaho sized so be mindful but it's recommended. The mocha pie was a favorite even for those of us who don't care for dessert or care for coffee flavored items, so give that a shot it was very good. Overall it's a must hit spot when in town no matter your party size or age. Get your name in early and eat up!!

At 8pm they are out of prime rib, halibut, trout, artichokes, ribs, and salad! WHAT is going on? I do understand this sort of thing happening on occasion, but literally the last 4-5 times anyone in our family has attempted eating here, it has been such a bad experience like this! Bad food, out of main staple items, or summoned to the dreaded basement... Unfortunately, after 46 years of dining at Pioneer, I think we are done! The past several seasons, something seems different. Always out of MANY items, and service is blah! It was literally a family favorite, so it's sad to even be typing this!!! Shout out to Sawtooth Club for getting us in last minute and serving a delicious meal! We will be back to support them!

The windows are dirty, the baseboard heaters don't wok and have cracked paint and the rugs are dirty and tired too. We had a nice time but the building and room felt they were in a time warp and in need of some TLC. Service by Terry was professional and fun at the same time. We still don't know what the meal cost. There were no prices on the menu and our friends paid so we are not sure. Probably very pricey! The manhattan was perfect, not too sweet and quite large! The antipasto board was decent but not spectacular. A few pieces of cheese, some jam, cornichons and hot smoked Idaho trout. It was served with lackluster crispy flatbread crackers. The butternut squash soup was really tasty. A really hearty portion, it was a bit coarse in texture and could have been blended a tad longer to make it smoother and more luxurious. the flavor was great with the pepita topping. The pork chop I chose was a mistake. Really overcooked, a tad dry and drenched in a sickeningly sweet apple compote that was more like dried apples rehydrated in sugar water with some spices. The best thing on the plate was the parsnip puree and there was not much of that. Wish I had ordered the braised lamb shank, however Terry did not mention that in his top three... Dessert was way better than it sounded. It was called a banana cheesecake however it was really a light banana flavored mousse between two layers of sponge cake with cooked banana puree on top. The chocolate dessert was fine. No one could finish it given the large portions of everything. It's a solid 3.5 stars, can't give it four.

The food always comes out hot and prepared well. My personal favorite is fish and chips but occasionally branch out. Latest is calamari steak. Not your typical rubbery appetizer. This is an actual steak cut into thick strips, lightly breaded and salted to perfection. Then tossed in a subtle, but flavorful, tomato', onion, garlic, cilantro salad. Served with a simple crusty bread and lemon wedge. Killer! Will definitely do that again. Cocktails above average for the area and match typical price for area. Their beer and wine selection is great.

The blonde who worked there was extremely unfriendly i was just trying to make basic conversation and she interrupted that as flirting and decided to be rude and i just sat there by myself and had an absolutely miserable time! So I did not tip her. So then I went there again and sat at the bar and the blonde bartender again was very rude and ostracized me for being there because she was mad that I did not tip her! They do not even say hello when you enter. They are clearly prejudiced! I am an Elkhorn owner and I have owned my place for about 6 years now! I will never eat at this establishment again. I was bullied by this bartender and after her incredibly toxic and bullying behavior I again refused to tip her! The servers here gossip amongst eachother and bully customers!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!
