Bigwood Grill has closed for good and peen replaced by The Timbers at Thunder Springs in Ketchum-Sun Valley, Idaho 83340 and 83353. Lindsay and Chris Lyle are the new owners. I am sure they would want to correct all this misinformation. They are great owners and just reopened their renovated and admirably upgraded and updated golf course, "The Timbers At Thunder Springs" restaurant, "The Birdie" snack bar on their golf course, another impressive addition and, of Course Zenergy, a gym, fitness center, spa, swimming pools and "The Peak" at Zenergy Spa and Fitness Center. My wife and I have dined at The Timbers three times and it is a magnificent addition to the community. I have snacked at The Birdie four times. Everything is spectacular! read more

The service is just amazing. On this occasion I stopped in with my dog, which they don't allow dogs on the deck. However they have few tables on the upper deck by the parking lot not meant for service. I asked if I can just order on the counter and I would be willing to pick up the plates; the guys were so good as they allowed me to be served while having my dog. Amazing service. Not sure what's going on here. We have been coming since before the new location, but were not here last year. Came for breakfast this morning and things are definitely different somehow. Food is still good, but coffee was weak, and the new arrangement of various stations leaves a lot to be desired; some have condiments and cream for coffee but no sugar, some have some (but not all) condiments but no coffee stuff, and the only place to get real utensils is behind the counter, but there are no spoons. There were no lap-sized napkins, only little cocktail napkins. There used to be setups rolled in cloth napkins and put in water glasses next to the iced water dispensers, but no more, you had to chase around to get everything you needed, and it was off-putting having to prepare my coffee across from the restroom. There were several errors with our order, including the addition of something we had not ordered, but we had to battle to send it back and get credit for it. There appears to have been some sort of merger with Wildflour, but it's not clear what this means to either entity. Miss the giant, easy-to-read menu up on the wall behind the counter. Waits to order are still interminable, and the magpie invasion continues unabated. read more

A WOW dining experience! Made a reservation a day ahead and when we got there we were initially seated at a bar table next to the kitchen. We requested a more intimate table and the hostess was very accommodating in finding a really nice table that ended up having a gorgeous sunset view. So perfect. Next, our server was just absolutely outstanding. She really was on top of anticipating every need and was a very delightful young lady. Excellent service. We really appreciated their wine list because it had several of our favorites. Finally settled on a Frank Family Chardonnay. Perfect choice for our meal. The food was outstanding as well. We started with sharing their bruschetta which was piled with perfectly ripe tomatoes lightly with just the right touch. Reminded us of bruschetta in Tuscany! I was thrilled that they had just put the trout and scampi entree back on their menu and it was delicious. My wife really enjoyed her ahi tuna salad and it was loaded with perfectly prepared ahi. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly staff and seated at our exact reservation time with a choice of tables. The restaurant filled up quickly and we enjoyed 5 delicious meals. 2 clam dinners, wedge salad, Caprese salad, filet mignon, and 2 ribs dinners. We all loved our meals. After a wonderful round of golf, we met up with a group of out of town friends. The local among us recommended this place. The views are spectacular, the service was good, but the food was hit or miss. The Chinese chicken salad seems to look the best out of anything. Two of us had the chicken caesar which was awful. There was maybe a cupful of sad looking romaine, maybe 1/4 cup of dried out grilled chicken and the worst caesar salad dressing I have ever had. The description was "homemade dressing" with croutons. Oh, and by the way, there were no croutons. while the Chinese chicken salad was heaped on the plates, this barely covered the plate. For 11.99 you could have had better at Mcdonalds! The manager and hostess were ridiculously rude. We were sat at a table and asked to sit a different one with a better view. The hostess let us know it was reserved. My brother didn't hear her and asked "may we sit at that table?" And she abruptly said, "no!" My brother asked for the manager. When she came over he politely explained we would prefer the empty table with the better view. She said, "You can't reserve tables. You can sit here or leave." He asked "if you don't reserve tables then why can't we sit there?" The manager responded "because that is reserved. So again you can sit at this table or leave!" So we left. My brother told her she was rude and it was unnecessary behavior. As we walked out of the restaurant, she yelled at us (over other customers) "that may work in LA, but not here!" What a strange comment considering we are long time locals and have frequented this restaurant often. However, even if we were from LA or out of town, is that any way to treat a family wanting to dine at a restaurant? It's social economic prejudice. This woman and her hostess should not be in customer service. We will not be returning to this establishment... not that we would be welcomed anyways. read more

Not shocking this place got only 3 stars. After coming recommended by friends of ours, we were saddened to walk into the situation we did. Beautiful atmosphere and what could have been a great dinner, the hostess was an old crotchety snot rag. I had called early to let them know that we had went form a party of 5 to a party of 2. We were there 5 minutes early and the people before us were even earlier for their reservation and got the last best table in the patio. Great, kudos for that family. But I nicely asked if there was anywhere we could have a drink and wait for a better table bc we were in no hurry. She rudely says, do you not see how busy we are? Where are you going for a drink? I don't see a bar anywhere do you? I said sorry, my husband said.....can we sit at those tables? Looks like those guys are leaving! No! There no food there! I jokingly said to my husband "we should've kept our 5 top, we would have got a better table. And she said that would have been rude to everyone. I said, actually you are rude to everyone and we left. Not to mention l, the sweet young girl was repeatedly apologizing and embarrassed for this grumpy old lady. read more

This is the place I'll never come back. Doesn't seem like the owner or the chef cares about the food. I ordered teriyaki chicken sandwich, the chicken was so dry, no teriyaki sauce at all. I decided to take a gamble and try dinning here after the mixed reviews. Coming into the restaurant I decided to give then a solid critique. I came on a Wednesday night and was surprised to find the restaurant completely bustling. It is a great choice if you are staying at the Sun Valley lodge and do not want to drive into Ketchum. The first stand out was the service. I had no reservation but was seated quickly. My server Alex was fantastic. She knew the menu well, including the drink menu. The drinks were good, especially the Mango Margarita. Considering there was also a large party going on my meal and drinks were served very quickly. I would highly recommend the peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream. The cobbler is hand made. The average or below average rating is far from correct. Listening and watching the other people dining it is obvious this is were the locals dine. read more

Had dinner here last night AWESOME!!!!!!! Started my meal with a great Peruvian ceviche and a potato dish (crab causa) never taste anything like that wonderful. Great views and friendly service . My second dish was the Paella and my friend got the Argentinian fillet mignon they were to die for it finish with passion fruit mousse . I will be back for sure read more

Absolutely stunning views! Service was friendly and quick, and the food was really fresh and tasty. Our group had local beers, one of their house cocktails, calimari peru, the nightly chef handmade ravioli special, and the local trout. Love this restaurant , ambiance, food , view.....! Hooked on the Ahi Salad have have it 3 times so far this summer! Other items and specials look wonderful , but partial to that salad! Last night we dined here after a long drive in from McCall. It was busy and we had no reservation but the hostess found us a table. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I ordered the daily fish special which was Sea bass with red pepper mashed potatoes. Our kids loved the chicken wonton appetizer so much we had to order another one. I would recommend calling for a reservation and requesting a table overlooking the mountain view. Overall it was a lovely dinner. read more

Food good. Outdoor patio lovely. But their no dog policy is bizarre - especially in Sun Valley. They have 6 tables on a top level where a dog could easily sit out of the way and never even be noticed. We had one waiter who said if you don't mind sitting here with your dog I am happy to serve you. We didn't mind at all - it was a lovely setting and the waiter was fabulous - we tipped him extremely well for the extra effort he made. Today we went back and a different waiter told us to go eat somewhere else he wouldn't allow a dog at the same table we sat before. So we went somewhere else even though there were only three tables seated in the entire restaurant. That is it for us. There are plenty of other great restaurants with dog friendly patios and wait staff that actually are cordial. read more

This is a great spot with the best view of any restaurant in the Sun Valley Area. We had dinner but they are open for lunch. The trout was awesome with large prawns and sweet potato puree, the best trout I have had in Idaho. I also had their pomegranate margarita which was excellent. Good house salad. For dinner, this is one of the best restaurants in Ketchum. (I can't comment on lunch, since I've only eaten dinner here.) The setting is beautiful--outdoors on a terrace, overlooking the Bigwood Golf course and the nearby hills. The food is excellent and the service attentive. As entrees our party had tenderloin-stuffed ravioli, grilled salmon and an airline chicken dish, all of which were delicious. The caesar salad was very good and the chocolate lava cake was a chocoholic's dream come true. Not cheap but well worth it. read more
