Food and service were both excellent. Really enjoyed the experience and highly recommend.

Giving an updated review for TQLAS but this time highlighting the bar and staff. I've already been to this restaurant for meals and was happy with my experience in the past having sat out on the patio and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My friend and I were looking for a good margarita after some bar hoping and I remembered this spot. Decided we should come by to see how is sitting at their bar. The bar inside the restaurant is very inviting and cool. Plenty of TVs to catch games and I liked the decor. The Freda artwork at the bar was a nice touch and the bar area itself was clean and well stocked. Appreciate being able to see all of the liquor bottles and ingredients kept nearby. Initially the bartender we had when we first got there (sorry forgot his name) was super sweet and attentive. I appreciated that he made some suggestions to us based on our preferences and was very nice. He made some good initial margaritas. Extra kudos to Brandon though, he's the bar manager who kind of took over from there. Brandon made what was already a good experience a phenomenal one. Brandon took initiative to ask my friend and I about what kind of drinks we like and then made some off the menu suggestions. He named off a few great sounding cocktails, one included a refreshing avocado type marg that we had to try. He was a stellar mixologist and the attentive and individualized experience made us definitely stick around longer. What sealed the deal was when my friend mentioned it was the both of our birthdays (two Capricorns walk into a bar...) and Brandon jumped on it! He made little celebratory bday shots not only for us but the few bar patrons next to us so we could all celebrate. It was lovely and unexpected. It also allowed us to get to know the other people at the bar and started some great conversations. I'm really happy to report that this bar is amazing and totally gives off a good and welcoming vibe. The service and friendliness we encountered when we came recently was unmatched to anywhere we had been earlier in the day and now I'm an even bigger fan of this place. Can't wait to come back and this will definitely be a spot for future margaritas And hangs.

Went here based on a TikTok I saw rating the best happy hours. They offer happy hour daily with $12 margs and $5 street tacos among other items. I got the jalapeño marg and the blackberry ginger. All made with fresh ingredients and muddled in-house. Both were delicious! I also got the carne asada taco and the picadillo taco. The chips and salsa were good! Seemed like the chips were homemade and the salsa was wonderful with a nice bit of heat. The bartender / waiter was super friendly and offered his favorites. Great atmosphere - Spanish style interior and nice outdoor patio.

Went with a group of girlfriends to celebrate my 50th birthday. Loved the chips and my California burrito. Kind of picky about my Mexican food since I'm from San Diego, but really enjoyed our dinner. Our waitress was fun with lots of personality. We didn't even have a reservation on a Saturday night, but they were able to accommodate us. I would go back.

Came midweek during happy hour time. The area is entering into slower times, so there weren't many people there. We took a seat at the bar, and were immediately given chips and salsa, which were quite good. I ordered their classic margarita that was on their happy hour menu. It did not taste very fresh - definitely more like a mix you could grab on a store shelf. I would choose something different in the future. We ordered the fish tacos as well as carne asada and carnitas (also on happy hour). Despite not being busy, they took awhile to come out. The meat on the tacos was not hot and seemed like it was cooked awhile ago and reheated. They could also stand to upgrade the tortillas. We were offered some spicy salsa, which was very good. Overall the bright spots were their homemade salsas and our bartender, Omar. He was very welcoming and friendly. The food just didn't hit the spot unfortunately. If we returned we would probably just come for drinks and snack on some chips. It's a cute spot, but was just ok.

This place was so lovely. The service was unmatched - truly the server had our names memorized before we even ordered drinks. I loved the vibe and the food was fantastic. Nice sized portions, super accommodating to modifications, and we were able to be seated immediately. The menu is incredible, I want to try so many things, can't wait to return.

Typical Mexican restaurant with traditional decorations. Waitress was super friendly and helpful with her recommendations. We ordered a pitcher of Classic Margaritas which were nice and strong and really good. They brought out some chips and salsa which were very crunchy and the salsa was just the right amount of spice. Our group of four each ordered a different dish. - carnitas tacos (without rice and beans) - carne asada tacos - chicken tinga tacos - Baja fish tacos We enjoyed all our meals and were nice and toasty by the end of the pitcher. Great service and ambiance! We sat on the patio and it was perfect.

Came out here for Restaurant Week, and they have a great selection. It's ideally situated in Old Town La Quinta. The food was great.

Boo... happy Halloween happy horror hour here.

It is a bit confusing... This place was terrible as noted in my past review and many others, Now NEW OWNERS, NEW CHEF, and NEW WEBSITE so gave it another shot. YELP SHORT ANSWER: Yes. our dining experience on this evening was a 2 then a 5 but all in all good enough, the food was spectacular. LOCATION: Excellent in LQ Old Town. BUILDOUT: Excellent, as it was. MENU: Very good not too many choices but all great selections for LQ crowd. FOOD PREP: Amazing, thankfully it appears a kitchen to be proud of. FOOD QUALITY: Was crazy good, all well above what I had experienced in the past, new owners, so mo better now. WAITSTAFF: Hello? unfriendly on this evening, we felt like we were at the DMV or CVS pharmacy. All staff were not too busy and kind of grumpy, unfriendly to each other as well as customers, not rude but just blunt. Before new owners opened, I happened to be there when new owners or management were giving a pep talk to new employees outside stressing, attitude, fun, great service, and all the other stuff that makes a place great even if the food sucks. Well, happy campers not so much, maybe they need a refresher course on why people spend money to eat there and locals to come back. It was just the waitstaff, our server was so nice she was a 10. The food made up for the odd vibe of waitstaff as it started off badly to where we were about to leave but ended with the best happy hour crunchy chicken tacos I have had in a long time as well as street tacos and guac. OVERALL VALUE: Yes very good. We tipped 20% hoping it makes its way back to the kitchen and server. We were impressed and will be back for a great Happy Hour. TIP: Confirm Happy Hour times, they don't really know. Sign at entry says 12-5pm yet it ends at 6pm... Best winter time is 3-5pm outdoor seating and if it lasts until 6pm then have a couple more tacos and $6 margaritas.

The service was good, but the food was not. We ordered pork belly tacos and the salmon. The tacos had very little filling in them, which was disappointing because they were not inexpensive. They were bland which is hard to do with pork belly. They were just super basic, and the filling was sparse. The salmon was a bit overcooked, and my husband didn't love the sauce that was on top, but that's just a preference. The atmosphere and location are so great. We really wanted to love this place but unfortunately we just didn't.

Baja fish tacos off the happy hour menu. So yummy!!

After a thorough search of Mexican spots to go in all of the Coachella valley we landed on TQLAS. Tbh...it didn't start well. Despite the nice south of the border ambience and color, almost empty restaurant we were sat down at a table, but they took too long to even see us or wait on us. No bueno. Not even water, in a 120degree crazy type day. So we moved straight to the bar to get direct service. We were hungry and wanted to take advantage of the happy hour they have. The chips and salsa, which we had to ask for, were pretty good. Made in house. We ordered the Baja fish tacos off the happy hour menu and 2 margaritas. Both were good. The fish was just out of the fryer and hot. It was awesome. The margaritas were too - little tart like I like them. We ended up ordering the fajitas and splitting them - carne asada, chicken, and shrimp and they too were magnificent. Succulent, juicy, and the dish def is both well. I think the flour tortillas were better. Overall it did start rocky with the service but food was very good. I recommend everything we got and I'd go back...on a cooler day, to enjoy the happy hour and the food next time I'm in the Coachella Valley. ;-)

Toria B.

Everything we had was good whether it was for the vegetarians or for the margarita lovers. They come out with homemade chips and salsa that are delicious. Tacos are phenomenal and filling. I would recommend the Cadillac Margarita if you are having a few beverages. The device is fast and friendly. They take reservations and have a mister in those exceptionally hot days.

I always believe in redemption! Here we go! Beginning to end -Clean table, dining area neat, -Server knew about everything on the menu and made great suggestions. I got the Birria Tacos and bottomless mimosa. -Chips and Salsa were great. The chips were thicker, which I'm not used to, but with the slight spice of the salsa, they complement each other very well. -Mimosa was delicious, I like them strong, and that it was. -Before getting the food, the staff was quick to clear tables and clean them thoroughly. -I'm no expert with Mexican food because I'm Hawaiian, but my wife and mother-in-law are Mexican and they make really good beans, red rice and Birria; however, TQLAS needs to show my wife and mother-in-law how to cook beans and rice. The Birria was everything and more! ATTENTION: If you like Birria tacos, come here! I did a bottomless mimosa every 4 minutes, they did a good job refilling for my pleasure without asking. Nice job TQLAS, redemption and more! Thank you! -JAMES was the waiter and gets a lot of credit to this experience, even busy at lunch he had great composure and served with a smile.

Mathew Sam and Lexi were awesome thank so much for making our evening special

No masks were worn by staff. We came on Saturday for an early lunch. We ordered a Bloody Mary and a regular Margarita, blended. For eating we ordered the nachos and the street tacos / 2 carne asada and 1 pork carnitas. It took awhile to get our drinks. The Margarita was NOT blended but it tasted very good so I kept it. The Bloody Marry was ok. The food came but no plates which took 15 minutes to get some plates. The nachos were cool and they put everything in the middle and on top so we couldn't get the toppings or beans or cheese on any other chips. Too many purple onions. The Street Tacos they mixed together the pork and the carne asada....weird... The chips crunchiness was 100% great, the flavor of the tacos was real tasty especially with the added pineapple and the Margarita was real good. The service was slow but not the servers fault she was the only server. All in all I gave it a 4 because I will be back and for the most part it was good! read more

The location is good. The ambiance s good. The service is kind of good. I ordered the steak (I know my bad it's a Mexican restaurant) and the steak was cooked well and I ordered medium. In past years this joint had some... less than ideal reviews. But it's been under new ownership for the past 10 months or so and they've really turned this place around. The service is way better, everyone's nice! Quick. Attentive. The ambiance has always been great with the patios seating and sometimes they have live music playing. But what's really awesome is the FOOD! New menu items. New chef. Trying new things. Always a delight. Right now they have these new wings in their wing platter. So good. Also their California burrito is a must-try. Highly recommended TQLAS! read more

Don't come here if you're in a hurry; we went out for a date night & it was a very nice aesthetic. Live music, warm heaters outside on the patio. The only thing is, we got seated at a dirty table, it took us 8 minutes to get our drink order, and 10 more minutes to take our food order. Once we got the food order in, the food came surprisingly fast - within 5 minutes or so. My partner got the fish tacos & I got the avocado tacos. They have avocado fries on the menu which I was intrigued to try, but when I got the avocado tacos, it was obvious they took an avocado fry and put it in a tortilla & served it like that. We also got a pitcher of the classic margarita and it tasted super watered down at first, but add some lime & it was fine. The pitcher serves 5 - and it really does! We were struggling to finish it. Overall, good experience. I feel like the server forgot about us though because we barely saw her throughout the night. They kept coming to take my plate multiple times, but not asking us if we wanted desert or the check. We had to get up & ask after about 10 minutes of waiting. ALSO, the men's bathroom has 4 stalls yet the women's only has 1 toilet?!? That was outrageous to me! There was a HUGE line for the women's restroom. read more

I'm very sorry to be unable to give this place a good review. We tried it a couple of years ago and were unimpressed, but we were told it was under new ownership so thought we'd try again. Location and ambiance are a 5, but the high marks stop there. We ordered guac and chips, and although we truly didn't know it was possible to ruin guacamole I can now say with confidence it's possible. There was so much lime juice it was inedible. The guac was chunky and chewy. Ewww. Also thought it would be hard to ruin a margarita but my blended marg and my husband's on the rocks were both terrible. We took a couple of sips and that was it. Thought it was weird our waiter never asked if anything was wrong since we had two full drinks and a barely touched bowl of guacamole. Food was just as bad as everything else. I ordered 3 chicken tacos, and even though there were several different kinds on the menu you couldn't mix and match. That was unusual and disappointing. My husband ordered something that came with the most unappetizing chunks of pork I've ever seen. The meat had a grayish color and he did not finish his dinner (nor did I). Our waiter didn't come to check if everything was ok until he came over with the bill, and at that point we just wanted to escape. Sad...so much potential in this place! Maybe we'll try it again if it comes under new ownership. Otherwise, there are plenty of good Mexican food places. They may not have the ambiance, but I like to pay for good food. read more

My family and I came down to visit La Quinta for the week. We found TQLAS through their Instagram page and saw that there was a recent change in ownership. We looked at previous reviews and thought that it could only get better than the previous owner, so we decided to give it a shot! OH MY GOD!! The Guacamole Tropicale was their signature chef's dish (which they are putting on their new menu soon) and it was spectaaaacular! I've been to the patio once and gotten take out twice since because I'm so impressed by the quality and presentation of the food. Healthy and fresh ingredients are emphasized. The Baja fish tacos are next level from the first bite I could tell the method of cooking the fish results in such a combination of crispy and tender, well you can just tell a lot of thought has gone into this menu. The furniture is just gorgeous too. Like a Mexican Hacienda. Service is great too. Can't wait to return to try some of the Tequila. read more

This…read morerestaurant is located inside La Quinta Resort & Club, and the experience feels special from the moment you walk through the historic, tall arched wooden doors. The entrance lead you down a hallway toward the hostess stand, with couches, a bar and a piano being played to the left. To the right , you enter the main dining room. The space felt open, elegant, and immediately welcoming. Talk about fine dining at its best. The hostess was able to quickly seat our party of six, and our server immediately brought over the menus and filled our water glasses. THE FOOD: We started with the oysters , and they did not disappoint. They were served with a shallot mignonette which was vinegary in all the right ways. They were so good, that we ended up ordering a second round. For dinner, we all ordered the steak with mushrooms and broccoli. The steak was perfectly cooked, and every bite was bursting with flavor. Even the mushrooms and broccoli stood out. Everything was seasoned beautifully without overpowering the actual flavors of the vegetables. Even the bread was so good. It was served with three different butters. And dessert? Also top notch. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner with friends. THE SERVICE: The service really added to the experience. Our server was attentive and took great care of us. The GM, Ray, also stopped by our table, and we ended up chatting and joking with him a bit. He was incredibly friendly and personable and made sure we were having a great experience. Between the setting, the food, the genuinely attentive service, this as one of those dinners where it all felt elevated. Definitely one of the many highlights of our stay at La Quinta Resort.

Morgan's in the Desert: Disappointment After Disappointment. $400 for Meh…read more After living in La Quinta for four years, we were ready to try Morgan's, as it's one of the last foodie restaurants in the Coachella valley that we haven't tried. We arrived early for our reservation, excited to grab a drink at the bar before dinner. Then we were told our table was already available... only to be seated at a dining table in the bar, off to the side, where apparently servers do not exist while staring at the back of the pianist and the barflies. The two bartenders were fantastic--especially Brian, who was working at warp speed--but they already had a packed bar to manage. Adding dining tables to their workload was clearly not realistic. Why were we seated there? Still a mystery. Reservation problems: I booked through the QR code advertised in The Gem for the August prix fixe dinners at La Quinta Resort's restaurants. When we arrived, we were told the prix fixe menu wasn't available that day. Sorry! So we ordered bread and oysters instead. About 15-20 minutes later, the manager came over and said they would honor the prix fixe after all. Great! Except... we'd already ordered appetizers. ‍ And wow, was it SLOW. We were seated at 5:30 and still didn't have our entrées at 7:00. Drinks regularly sat empty, and once the restaurant got busy around 6:30, water refills disappeared completely. Did I mention it was 110 degrees outside? The food? A mixed bag--but overall, wildly overpriced and underwhelming. * Oysters: Ice-cold and served with a good mignonette. Also pricey. * Bread: Fresh and warm, but the olive tapenade was aggressively salty. Again, overpriced. * Watermelon salad: The winner! Refreshing, flavorful, and the spicy nuts gave it a nice kick. Highly recommend. * Chicken cacciatore: Dry chicken, undercooked tomatoes, overcooked pasta. Never again. * Oscar filet: Delicious and well-prepared, but nothing memorable or special--especially for the price. Bottom line: We spent about $400 for a frustrating, painfully slow, mostly mediocre meal. There are too many great restaurants in the area to spend that kind of money on "meh." We won't be back.

My wife, son, and I visited Tommy Bahama's restaurant in La Quinta on Sunday after church, looking…read moreforward to enjoying a pleasant family lunch. Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable afternoon turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had, not because of the food, but because of the extraordinarily poor customer service, lack of attention, and, most concerning, the dismissive attitude of the restaurant's management. Our experience began with something as simple as requesting a drink menu. Despite asking several times, no one provided us with one. We waited patiently, expecting that someone would eventually attend to our request. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Eventually, my wife became so frustrated that she physically got up from our table, walked over to an individual we later confirmed was the restaurant manager, Jasper Jarvis, and personally requested a drink menu. Only then did we finally receive one. It is astonishing that customers dining at a restaurant of this caliber must repeatedly request something as basic as a drink menu and ultimately leave their table to obtain one from management. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning. The most unacceptable part of our experience occurred when our meals were served. My son and I received our food, but my wife's meal was nowhere to be found. We waited, expecting her food to arrive shortly. It did not. My son and I eventually finished our entire meals, and my wife's food still had not arrived. Approximately ten minutes after we had finished eating, her meal was finally brought to the table. Think about that for a moment. Three family members go out to enjoy Sunday lunch together, yet two finish their meals before the third person even receives hers. My wife was left eating alone while my son and I sat watching her. The entire purpose of dining out as a family is to enjoy a meal together. That opportunity was completely ruined by the restaurant's inability to coordinate something as fundamental as serving three meals within a reasonable time of one another. What made this experience considerably worse was our interaction with the restaurant manager, Jasper Jarvis. When we brought these concerns to his attention, we expected some degree of professionalism, accountability, or at least a sincere acknowledgment that the service had fallen well below reasonable expectations. Instead, we encountered an attitude that left us feeling our concerns were an inconvenience. Mr. Jarvis attributed the delayed meal to the kitchen staff. Regarding our difficulty obtaining a drink menu, his response was essentially that he had provided one when my wife approached him. That response completely missed the point. A customer should not have to get up, search for a manager, and personally request something that the service staff should have provided in the first place. More troubling was the overall impression Mr. Jarvis gave us during the conversation. Rather than demonstrating genuine concern or taking responsibility for the dining experience, he appeared dismissive and spoke in a manner that made us feel we were wasting his time. As customers, we were not looking for special treatment, complimentary meals, or anything unreasonable. We simply expected competent service, basic courtesy, and a manager willing to acknowledge legitimate concerns. This was not an isolated experience for our family. My wife had previously visited this restaurant, and according to her, that experience was similarly disappointing. On both occasions, she observed what appeared to be employees and management congregating among themselves rather than remaining attentive to customers and their needs. It gives the impression of an establishment where customer service is not being adequately supervised or prioritized. I do, however, want to acknowledge one employee who deserves recognition. Throughout our visit, one individual continued coming by our table approximately every ten minutes to refill our water. I could see that he appeared aware something was wrong, and although he may not have been in a position to resolve the larger service problems, he made a noticeable effort to provide us with some level of attentive service. His efforts did not go unnoticed, and I appreciate them. Unfortunately, one conscientious employee cannot compensate for a broader failure in service and management. My greatest disappointment is with the management. Restaurants can experience delays. Kitchens can make mistakes. Orders can be overlooked. These things happen, and most reasonable customers understand that. What distinguishes a well-managed restaurant from a poorly managed one is how management responds when those mistakes occur. A professional manager acknowledges the problem, accepts responsibility for the customer's experience, and makes a genuine effort to resolve the situation. That is not what we experienced.

I recently visited TQLAS, excited to try the place under its new ownership, but unfortunately, I left disappointed. The ceviche, which I was eager to try, lacked flavor and didn't live up to expectations--it might have been the worst I've ever had. Similarly, the trio fajitas were a letdown with tough meat, dry chicken, and rubbery, unseasoned shrimp. On a brighter note, the margaritas and Palomas were average, not bad but nothing standout. I'm sharing this feedback not out of dissatisfaction alone, but in hopes that it can be constructive. I believe with some attention to the seasoning and preparation of the dishes, there's a great potential for improvement. A tweak in the kitchen could really turn things around and help TQLAS live up to the excitement of new management. I look forward to giving TQLAS another try in the future and seeing how it evolves. This review provides honest feedback while also offering encouragement for improvement. read more

Disappointing Service Experience We recently visited [Restaurant Name], and while the food was decent, the service completely overshadowed our experience. Our waiter was extremely rude and unprofessional, making us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable throughout the meal. Simple questions about the menu were met with dismissive and impatient responses, and the overall attitude was completely unacceptable for a hospitality environment. We expected a far higher standard of service based on the restaurant's reputation. It's unfortunate because the ambiance and food had potential, but the service left a sour taste. The food was very underwhelming and nothing was very impressive in taste. I got a shredded beef taco plate and felt like the beef and beans tasted a day old. The best part of the dish was the rice and fresh lettuce and cheese. Everyone did think their food was ok or good, no one was wowed or waiting to come back. The drinks however were great and made to perfection. There was a lot of waiting in between but that was expected since they were probably not prepared to open the other side of the restaurant. They did their best and we enjoyed our time there and had a good time besides the food not hitting. The restaurant had fun decor and vibes so they do have that going for them.

I am writing to bring attention to an extremely disappointing and humiliating experience at Las…read moreCasuelas in Palm Desert on Cinco de Mayo. My daughter and I stood at the entrance for several minutes without being greeted. During that time, the manager was visibly overwhelmed and speaking harshly to the young hostesses, who appeared uncomfortable and trying to maintain composure. Despite this, no one acknowledged us until I offered a friendly "Happy Cinco de Mayo," at which point a hostess kindly stepped in to seat us. Unfortunately, the situation escalated. Twice, as we were being seated, the manager abruptly intervened -- placing reserved signs down and yelling at the hostess, myself and daughter we could not sit there. His tone was harsh, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational. This happened two times at two different tables that we were escorted to by the hostess and in front of my young daughter. Needless to say it was both uncomfortable and humiliating. I have never experienced a restaurant manager behave with this level of disrespect toward a guest, especially a woman with her child. I felt embarrassed and heartbroken that my daughter had to witness this. When I calmly approached him to understand the situation, he responded by stating they had "400 reservations," followed by dismissive and aggressive body language that made it clear we were not welcome. The interaction ended with us leaving and both tears. My daughter said "I'm scared mommy, why was that man so mean". A guest from the restaurant who was dinning and witnessed the incident came out just to see if we were ok. Equally concerning was how he treated his own staff, especially female staff setting a negative and unprofessional tone throughout the front of house. As someone from a fourth-generation family in the restaurant industry, I find this especially disheartening. I would be deeply concerned if any manager in our organization treated a guest or employees this way. I understand holidays are demanding, but being busy does not excuse a lack of basic respect and professionalism. I am sharing this in hopes that upper management addresses this directly. No woman / person and her child should have to experience this kind of treatment.

Canadians and mid westerners probably love the food. I'm surprised they didn't have ground turkey tacos on the menu. They did, however, have a sad excuse for fish tacos I called in an order while traveling. I asked for a carne asada burrito with rice and beans only. No pico, nothing else. I get home and somehow I was given a fajita burrito. Everything tasted sweet, most likely a restaurant supply menu. I think they used a salsa that was made in New York City. I would have preferred pace picante sauce at this point.

The other included a chile relleno, a beef taco, an enchilada, beans, and rice. The food was decent overall, but it didn't quite stand out enough for us to rate it higher. The service was excellent--5/5. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made the experience enjoyable. The bar drink was made to perfection, and we also enjoyed an authentic Mexican Coke made with cane sugar, which was a nice touch. The atmosphere was 4/5--comfortable and inviting with a good Mexican restaurant feel. Overall, Carmens was a pleasant experience, especially because of the great service and drinks. The food was just average for us, which is why we're giving it 3 stars for food 5 for service 4 for atmosphere...so a good 4

I want to return but distance is a killer, because Salsas (another FAV) is much closer, it's on my FAV list, and with the MUCH LARGER SET OF MENU OPTIONS, I'm sure I will return.
