The beautiful setting has kept us coming back for years for happy hour with friends and lovely dinners, but there's been a vibe shift lately. The food isn't nearly as high quality and it feels like less care is going into training the wait staff and curating positive guest experiences. I used to crave the bacon wrapped dates but they're now on the fatty side. The most notable change is that there used to be lovely tables with fire pits and cozy conversation seating and it's all been replaced with dining seating that's less conducive to dining with friends. Most important is the warm red wine and the shift in happy hour prices to "only if we have a bottle already opened" where you only find out if you won the happy hour lottery when you get the check. My question is, if the Meiomi wasn't already opened, why wasn't it chilled? Bottom line, hoping they go back to a more hospitality vibe and focus so we can come back and enjoy the lovely atmosphere again soon. read more

While visiting Palm Desert with friends in February 2025, we had Saturday brunch at Melange, the signature lakeside restaurant at The Chateau at Lake La Quinta. When we walked in, Robert advised us that he was the only server and bartender working that day AND there were six tables ahead of us. He was very pleasant and promised to get to us as soon as possible, and we decided to stay and wait. We were seated outside, given menu and drinks and ended up waiting for a much shorter time than we anticipated - many thanks, Robert! The food was excellent - I had the shrimp & asparagus omelet, and the others enjoyed the Benedict, mushroom omelet, and blueberry french toast. The entrance looks like you're in italy and is just beautiful. I feel like they can do a bit of an overhaul and improve the inside and back area that overlooks the lake. Me and my family had the worst dining experiences imaginable here. We waited over a hour for our food which is already completely unacceptable. Not to mention the food was ATROCIOUS!!!!!! The prices are very unreasonable for the quality and lack of food in the so called "dishes". The entrance is very unprofessional and confusing. All staff had attitude after asked how long our food will take. I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT INTO THIS PLACE ANYMORE. This has to be the worst food I have ever eaten. This is also a hotel which looks really nice. LOCATION: a little hard to find which makes it all that much more special. Quiet and on the water. Tons of indoor and outdoor seating but no too much parking. FACILITY: Not really sure what it is but it's nice. A bit eclectic with a European theme I think, it really does not matter as it is nice yet aging a little. MENU: A lot of great choices you will find something no matter you food status or appetite. FOOD PREP: Pretty standard and fine, nothing fancy which works. At dinner they kick it up a notch. It just all works. FOOD QUALITY: Always very good. I have not had and fancy menu items here so cannot comment but I would not hesitate to order anything here. WAITSTAFF: Did I mention Brittney? The servers were very nice and really seemed to leave people alone to relax and take in the views and enjoy a little chill time. Everyone on this last visit were so happy and fun, that is what we all need and grumpy customers go fix yourself. We have been quite a few times in the past year but the last couple times have not been a good experience. Last night was even worse. Of course their "Happy Hour" menu has changed for the season tourist season, which is fine but the service and food quality are subpar. We were seated outside and told our waiter would be over to greet us. The place was NOT busy, 3 tables were finished and had already paid, 2 already had food and drink and us and another couple waited and waited and waited. Nothing. We had high hopes for this restaurant given it is one of the only places that overlooks water. But sadly, they were grossly understaffed, with only one person both serving and bartending. After 45 minutes, we still had not received our drinks or placed our dinner order. When we did finally get our food, it was terrible. The bread was stale and the pork chop had to be sent back because it was undercooked. By that time it was too late to order a replacement so one person in our group went without a meal. But the worst part of the experience was watching the owners of the restaurant, along with their large party, monopolize the time and attention of the only person working, without looking up to notice that the rest of their customers were waiting over an hour for their dinner. But, despite being grossly overworked, the server/bartender (Robert) was delightful. He was friendly and apologetic and did his best despite the circumstances. Needless to say, we will not be back. We have no desire to give our business to such inconsiderate and rude owners. read more

It had been several years since our last meal there so we thought we'd give it a try. What a mistake. We had a nice table with a view of the lake. But after being seated we were informed by the bus boy that there was only one server that night and he was also the bartender. Turns out he was terrific but he couldn't cover all the tables and make drinks. So it took FOREVER to get served. The most irritating thing was the owners were eating dinner out on the patio with their customers and did nothing to help their overworked and overwhelmed staff. When our food finally arrived we were dissatisfied to say the least. Food quality was on par with the service. This restaurant needs more staff and probably new management. read more

I can't believe we didn't know about this hidden little spot in all of the years we have lived in the desert! I wish I could add a half star, cuz this place deserves 4.5 stars (I usually only reserve 5 stars for "slap-me-in-the-face good places, ha!) I took my parents today for brunch to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary (!!) and we were just delighted. The service is just amazing...starting with Britney at the host/welcome desk. Our waiter, Mario, was pleasant and cheerful, and didn't slack on topping up our bottomless mimosas glasses. Robert, another waiter who chatted with us, was so sweet too. And then even the chef (Chef Omar??) came out to wish my parents a congratulations. Service was just amazing! The food was quite good too. My dad got the lox and bagel plate, which is always his choice if it's on a menu. He gave it a 10 out of 10. My mom had the shrimp and asparagus omelet which she really liked too. I opted for the mushroom avocado toast which was huge and filling and lovely and more like an open-faced sandwich! Great food at very reasonable prices. My dad and I got the bottomless mimosas (cuz...why not?) and the chef was so thoughtful to send an order of the blueberry and pistachio blintz over at the end of our meal to celebrate my parents even more. All in all, a great "new" find. We are looking forward to going again, perhaps on a summer evening when we can be outside, with the lake views. (A bit too hot for us, to be outside today). read more

The patio area overlooking the lake and waterfall is one of the best spots in the city of La Quinta. Absolutely beautiful serene setting. Their breakfast brunch is exceptionally good. We set up dinner reservations on open table for 8 o'clock. When we arrived, they told us that the kitchen was closed and basically bye bye. We will never go back to this restaurant again. They could have at least called us and told us that we had to make an earlier reservation. We ended up going to lavender and had a great meal. read more

Nestled deep in the desert community of La Quinta/Indian Wells, some four miles away from the I-10 freeway, lies this Château of sorts, essentially a resort hotel and its attached restaurant, Mélange. Basically, you'd never find it on your own time most likely, therefore, the most astonishing aspect was the existence of an artificial lake and canals in an exclusive neighborhood. Talk about conspicuous use of dwindling resources, but as day turned to dusk the beauty and charm came out tenfold. So did the high winds but we were sat at a spot our server assured us would be comfortable. He wasn't wrong and when the fire pit behind was ignited later in the evening, it was close to perfect. Online and in person the menu still says "Summer" but the low desert is quite a bit different than areas closer to the coast so that's a debatable point. The menu isn't exactly French as the faux setting might imply, but it is diverse and reasonably priced given shortages and availability of ingredients presently. For appetizers we chose the Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad and the Cajun Wings. The server mentioned that the wings used a dry rub instead of a wet sauce. That appealed and we kept the order as-is. Both arrived fairly quickly but after we got our glasses of wine. Pinot Grigio for Dad, a Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon for me, water for her. I'm not a big tomato fan although I love tomato sauce on pasta, however, these heirlooms were pretty tasty with the fresh mozzarella and balsamic reduction. Freshly ground pepper gave it a nice lift. For semi-fine dining wings might seem strange but I thought the Cajun herbs and spices were exceptional, clearly housemade, and possessed the right balance of heat and savory flavors without overpowering the chicken. All drumsticks in case you're wondering. I like space in a meal and the server took our order for entrées next. Other patrons were arriving and the setting was becoming more charming as the sun set and the lights came on. We joked that the most interesting house across the water was one with lights arranged to look like martini glasses. Dad had his entrée preselected to match the wine, so Chicken Picatta with mashed potatoes and broccolini made perfect sense. I almost got it myself but I sometimes cook it at home, therfore I selected the Flat Iron Steak with fries, and she ordered the house Burger with fries. After a short time the entrées arrived together and I was hungry. The portions exceeded expectations, truly, my father was surprised by his meal. It looked pretty good, capers in a wine lemon sauce over the mashed potatoes. My steak was pre-sliced and her burger looked pretty good too. My request for medium-rare yielded the rarer side but better that than drifting past medium for this cut of meat. I loved the fries too. We ate it all and had dessert. Two birthdays to celebrate so why not? Dad chose Créme Brulée and I liked the sound of chocolate cake with ice cream. In fact, the cake came out warm and had that molten texture, which was highly enjoyable. I recommend that over the Créme Brulée. Overall, we liked the service, both our server and busboy were polite, friendly, and professional. We loved the setting and if or when would come back to eat again. Our primary reason for selecting Mélange was that it was reasonably close to Fantasy Springs Casino, whose restaurants were all booked, where we attended a concert so it was an interesting discovery and decent three-course meal. read more

We learned there were only 2 white wine glasses, and were served red in one of them. The most expensive entee was the pork-ordered by 2 in our party. It was tough and dry-very overcooked. The short rib was "ok" and the flatbread bread was "not the worst". The creme brulee wa excellent however. Lots of issues here, which we hope they can work out. read more

We sat outside with a beautiful view of the lake on a quiet Wednesday evening celebrating a special occasion. We shared the bacon wrapped dates as a starter along with the sliders. Both were quiet tasty, highly recommend the dates starter. My husband ordered the chicken piccata which was tender and well seasoned. The seasonal vegetables included the cutest baby squash that were cooked to perfection. I had the scallop and prawn risotto dish which was delicate but filling. The risotto was creamy and tasty. They have a great wine list available as well as a full bar. The creme brûlée is delicious and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate cake as well. read more

Melange is my new favorite place! It's a hidden gem and I am in love. The first time we went we were blown away by the lake which has swans, large catfish, ducks and turtles! It's such a pretty view. We went inside the restaurant since we wanted AC. They sat us at a table with a beautiful view. We ordered charcuterie board, the mezze platter and some champagne. Everything was so delicious and our waiter Mario was fantastic. We returned a few times for their breakfast! The breakfast is so delicious. The bacon was the best bacon we've had!! My daughter says the smoothie is a 10/10 and they had amazing mimosas. We did sit outside for breakfast and our wonderful host put us near the water view and put up the umbrella for us!! We are here now celebrating our 31st anniversary!! What a spectacular well kept secret! We have been coming to La Quinta for years and have driven past this gem and never knew it was here!! Dinner last night couldn't have been more special without Robert being our server. He made our dinner better along with our lifelong friends and delicious food. I couldn't wait to wake up to see this beautiful lake with the water fountain and birds chirping while listing to good music, watching the sun come up over the mountains and water, and seeing locals enjoy sailing on the lake.
