So far Calf's Liver... Crazy Delish, Veal Piccata TERRIFIC, Calimari... Fresh and sever on coleslaw. Amazing. The Dover Dole was Delightful. I think everything here is Mom's homemade and the quality of the meats and fish is as good as it gets. Prices a Realy Really Reasonable. Waitresses work together as a team and they are all super kind and helpful. They seem to love working there and they really believe in the quality of the food. They say everything is great here! What a gem!!! It serves up Old school vibes in every way! It's a classic! We made sure to sit in the bar so we could take in The piano player - just the perfect touch! He's so personable and friendly and takes requests. The whole bar area joined in singing to Noel diamond-we were all friends by the end of the evening! So welcoming. And the food-chef's kiss!! Tempura calamari was sooo light and crispy! The chicken Marsala was the original recipe from inception-it's a classic-couldn't get enough of the sauce! We've lived in LQ for 12 years and this was our first time. I really wanted some live music with dinner. The piano player was great, lots of old songs (theme to Mary Tyler Moore show) it was really great, service was also really great. We enjoyed the old school Rat Pack feel. A truly nice experience. Service and Drinks are solid. Calamari for a starter is above average. Atmosphere is clean, comfortable and a bit of a time warp back to ole Palm Springs! My wife and I went for drinks and dinner but had such a pleasant experience at the bar that we stayed put and had martinis and calamari while the piano man played the hits. Valet parking up front. I've been dying to try this La Quinta landmark. Here's my experience: Ambiance: 5-Stars!!! The interior is a very cool retro vibe which really takes you back in time. The Bill Baker and Waldo entertainment was really great! Service: 5-Stars!!! The servers, their manager and the bartender took great care of us! They were super friendly, efficient and accommodating. Food: 3.5 Stars!!! If you're not into prime rib or heavy Italian food, this might not be a good choice. Many of the menu items feature dishes that are smothered in butter/heavy sauces or fried. I opted for the Mediterranean Chicken Pasta which from the menu description sounded like the healthiest choice. To my disappointment the chef must've prepared my portion with over one cup of olive oil. Next visit, I will opt for a salad. If you're looking for an epic local restaurant with a history, you should experience Sandbar at least once -- however you might want to prioritize cocktails over dinner. read more

My first time at Sandbar. Loved the place. Has a good vibe - like old school from the "Rat Pack" era. Very cozy. Sat in the bar by piano (highly recommend to sit in that area - very lively). Cunard's is quintessential old school Palm springs restaurant bar lounge located near downtown la Quinta. Cozy dining room and very intimate bar lounge area which harkins back to old school days. The good news is Bill Baker has a residency there performing Tuesday through Saturday night. He's very entertaining, he's very good and very charming with all of the patrons. Just to go see him is worth it. Now on to my issues. The food price is here are outrageous. And I mean all restaurants have jacked up the prices since COVID, but the ownership here is quite obnoxious with what they're pricing you at. Let me give you some examples The side order of french fries $11.95 The corkage fee is $30 A split plate charge is $15 Every single pasta on their menu is $36.95. this is pasta ...... Right There isn't a single entree on the menu that's less than $30. And this isn't some Michelin star chef in the back. Come on. It's Cunard's . My wife's brown butter sole was way too salty and my chicken marsala was under seasoned. I think the best part of my dish was the garlic pasta! We love the lounge, we love Bill Baker, we love all the oldsters in there and the place becoming a shit show with drunksters. I would love management to come to their senses and price some of these things more reasonably. Alas, I don't think it will happen. read more

This was our first visit to this restaurant. We arrived at 6:30 for our reservation and food did not reach our table until 730. The food quality was average. The service was poor. We had come for the live music, but the bar seating was crowded and the acoustics made it hard to have a normal conversation without speaking loudly. The piano player/singer should not be singing anymore -- his voice is so hoarse from overuse that it's not enjoyable to hear. And by increasing the volume of the piano to compensate, only contributed to the already high noise level. Overall, a very unpleasant dining experience. People make a difference! The first person you interact with should be somewhat polite & welcoming, not the case with the valet man! I asked the gentleman bringing the bread what his favorite pasta dish was and he abruptly said "I don't eat the pasta here"...and the lady who brought our salad was oddly rude as well. It really doesn't matter at that point that the food was fine, because we've just had 3 negative interactions with employees and were trying to be very kind to all of them!? Our server was nice but it might be a good time to train the whole staff on the importance of good customer service. We are spending quite a lot to eat here after all! This review is upgraded from one to two stars because bartender Randy was amazing and provided some of the best bar service I have ever had in my two years of living here. Also, he's an amazing mixologist. That's where the positives end. I spent $10 for a "house salad" that was no more than a small plate of shredded lettuce with a few chopped tomatoes and a grayish dressing. Nope. As someone who physically cannot eat gluten, I was told I had four options. I went for the chicken Marsala (unbreaded) with veggies. The Marsala sauce was basically brown water, and the chicken was so overcooked, it was was like stale chewing gum (you know the texture). The veggies were fine, if not slightly cold. This dish cost $36. My main complaint was the way we were treated by the manager-on-duty (female-presenting, pink sweater) when we asked for the live singer's music to be turned down. My partner and I could literally not have a conversation, and when the bartender came to take our orders and check on us, we had to yell at each other. Another couple next to us left because they said it was too loud. The person who delivered our food said that they get complaints about the music all the time, but nothing happens. We might go back on a Sunday or Monday evening to get drinks from Randy because he's awesome and also said it's the nights without music. Don't waste your time. read more

The food was very bland and average. Nothing to speak of, nothing special. In fact, half of my food on my plate was cold when I started eating. My husbands food was swimming in oil. The thing that upset me the most and made me angry was, the waitress asked us to leave because she needed the table for her "other reservations." We were only there an hour and a half from the time we walked in till the time she told us to leave! 1 1/2 hours, till we walked in the front door, till the time we walked out the front door. Love this little hidden gem ! Incredible food and quality entertainment from a seasoned professional who covers it all when it comes to music. This gentleman sings as well as plays the piano and the guitar very well. If fact for us older folks who have roamed this earth for awhile now remember the tv show He Haw. Well guess what? The good: First time here with great reviews. We had guests from out of town and wanted to show the excellent ambiance and food. Free desert because the meal was a disaster. The not so good: 1 Let's start with the service. The waitress was totally inattentive. 2. The food: the duck was overcooked. My short rib was cold and I sent it back. It was also over run with cold gravy. It was like the chef went on vacation. 4. Asking for bread from the busboy who gave us attitude. The waitress was on a break or something. Had a group of 20 guys here for dinner on the beautiful patio during our 16th Annual. Service (Morgan, bit of a firecracker but fit our style) and food were excellent, but the real hit of the night was the sweet sounds of Bill Baker. Amongst the locals, he is known as "Bill Baker the Baby Maker", as he is always putting you into the mood for a good time. Friends have recommended The Sandbar over the years, so we decided to try it. We brought good friends along. Parking was chaotic. The valets didn't have spaces for the vehicles arriving. (Our reservation was at 6pm) We were shown to our table in the back room and the first thing that struck us was the noise. It wasn't quite bedlam, but it was pretty close. Service was slow and uneven. Others ordered the brown butter sole and chicken, and I ordered short rib. The waitress told me that the only sides were mashed potatoes, but the menu mentioned baked potato. I asked for a baked potato and the waitress wandered away with our orders looking puzzled. Refills of water and wine were haphazard as we waited for our mains. The food came and everyone was complimentary about the food. The gravy on the short rib was salty, the baked potato was good, but otherwise the short rib was fine. After the mains we thought about desert but we decided, after 90 minutes of shouting to be heard, was too much so we got our bill and left. Our friends were handed the keys to the wrong car, and this seemed to sum up the evening well. It is hard to understand why this place is so popular. I wish I knew, I could make a fortune. We must've driven past the Sandbar fifty times and never once felt compelled to stop or even to check Yelp reviews. It just doesn't look like much from the road. Then, a good friend suggested we go there to hear the live music before they shut down for the summer, so we did. The inside is NOTHING like the outside! It's very old school with white tablecloths, a great wine list, extremely attentive service, and very tasty food. We started with the calamari appetizer, which was very good. For dinner, I had veal Marsala and it was excellent. Very tender, with lots of mushrooms Hubby had salmon, which was cooked perfectly. We were very presently surprised! The only two minuses: 1. Prices are very high! Our entrées were about $50 each and our bottle of wine was $130. 2. Though the place was nearly empty, we were rushed out the door to make room for a second seating. There were dozens of empty tables and no one waiting to get in, so they didn't need our table. Nonetheless, pressure was put on us to clear the bill and hurry out.
