Overall this was a good dining experience, w/ a few hiccups. We were a Party of 8 for a birthday celebration. It appeared this place was short-staffed, and the Manager said her bartender got slammed. That explains why our drinks were slow, and why our 2nd round of drinks never even arrived at all! Manager of course took the drinks off our tab, and gave us a discount on our overall dinner bill. As for the food, my ceviche was amazing, and hubby's burrito was good. Everyone else in our party complained & was disappointed in their food. The highlight was the complimentary dessert of Mud Pie. Giving an updated review for TQLAS but this time highlighting the bar and staff. I've already been to this restaurant for meals and was happy with my experience in the past having sat out on the patio and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My friend and I were looking for a good margarita after some bar hoping and I remembered this spot. Decided we should come by to see how is sitting at their bar. The bar inside the restaurant is very inviting and cool. Plenty of TVs to catch games and I liked the decor. The Freda artwork at the bar was a nice touch and the bar area itself was clean and well stocked. Appreciate being able to see all of the liquor bottles and ingredients kept nearby. Initially the bartender we had when we first got there (sorry forgot his name) was super sweet and attentive. I appreciated that he made some suggestions to us based on our preferences and was very nice. He made some good initial margaritas. Extra kudos to Brandon though, he's the bar manager who kind of took over from there. Brandon made what was already a good experience a phenomenal one. Brandon took initiative to ask my friend and I about what kind of drinks we like and then made some off the menu suggestions. He named off a few great sounding cocktails, one included a refreshing avocado type marg that we had to try. He was a stellar mixologist and the attentive and individualized experience made us definitely stick around longer. What sealed the deal was when my friend mentioned it was the both of our birthdays (two Capricorns walk into a bar...) and Brandon jumped on it! He made little celebratory bday shots not only for us but the few bar patrons next to us so we could all celebrate. It was lovely and unexpected. It also allowed us to get to know the other people at the bar and started some great conversations. I'm really happy to report that this bar is amazing and totally gives off a good and welcoming vibe. Went here based on a TikTok I saw rating the best happy hours. They offer happy hour daily with $12 margs and $5 street tacos among other items. I got the jalapeño marg and the blackberry ginger. All made with fresh ingredients and muddled in-house. Both were delicious! I also got the carne asada taco and the picadillo taco. The chips and salsa were good! Came midweek during happy hour time. The area is entering into slower times, so there weren't many people there. We took a seat at the bar, and were immediately given chips and salsa, which were quite good. I ordered their classic margarita that was on their happy hour menu. It did not taste very fresh - definitely more like a mix you could grab on a store shelf. I would choose something different in the future. We ordered the fish tacos as well as carne asada and carnitas (also on happy hour). Despite not being busy, they took awhile to come out. The meat on the tacos was not hot and seemed like it was cooked awhile ago and reheated. They could also stand to upgrade the tortillas. We were offered some spicy salsa, which was very good. Overall the bright spots were their homemade salsas and our bartender, Omar. He was very welcoming and friendly. The food just didn't hit the spot unfortunately. They were bland which is hard to do with pork belly. They were just super basic, and the filling was sparse. I always believe in redemption! Here we go! Beginning to end -Clean table, dining area neat, -Server knew about everything on the menu and made great suggestions. I got the Birria Tacos and bottomless mimosa. -Chips and Salsa were great. The chips were thicker, which I'm not used to, but with the slight spice of the salsa, they complement each other very well. -Mimosa was delicious, I like them strong, and that it was. -Before getting the food, the staff was quick to clear tables and clean them thoroughly. -I'm no expert with Mexican food because I'm Hawaiian, but my wife and mother-in-law are Mexican and they make really good beans, red rice and Birria; however, TQLAS needs to show my wife and mother-in-law how to cook beans and rice. The Birria was everything and more! ATTENTION: If you like Birria tacos, come here! I did a bottomless mimosa every 4 minutes, they did a good job refilling for my pleasure without asking. After a thorough search of Mexican spots to go in all of the Coachella valley we landed on TQLAS. Tbh...it didn't start well. Despite the nice south of the border ambience and color, almost empty restaurant we were sat down at a table, but they took too long to even see us or wait on us. No bueno. Not even water, in a 120degree crazy type day. So we moved straight to the bar to get direct service. We were hungry and wanted to take advantage of the happy hour they have. The chips and salsa, which we had to ask for, were pretty good. Made in house. We ordered the Baja fish tacos off the happy hour menu and 2 margaritas. Both were good. The fish was just out of the fryer and hot. It was awesome. The margaritas were too - little tart like I like them. We ended up ordering the fajitas and splitting them - carne asada, chicken, and shrimp and they too were magnificent. Succulent, juicy, and the dish def is both well. I think the flour tortillas were better. Overall it did start rocky with the service but food was very good. I recommend everything we got and I'd go back...on a cooler day, to enjoy the happy hour and the food next time I'm in the Coachella Valley. ;-) read more

Beautiful location. I made reservations and was seated very quickly. I had to ask three different people from the hostess to the server and finally the bus boy to turn on the heater for us. Our server was very nice but forgetful. Drinks were OK. The food was very bland, the refried beans had no flavor. My shrimp what is the best dish served at night. Very spicy and flavorful and shrimp perfectly deveined. It's very Unfortunate that you cannot mix and match the tacos! It did take quite a while to receive our food. Today was a return visit, but for breakfast. Not the best today, maybe a day a missed. Service, food and drinks were all way below average. We ordered drinks, and were waiting for a long period of time before they arrived, and one being delivered incorrectly. We ordered. Real fast burrito and americano (eggs, bacon, potatoes and sourdough bread). Burrito was cold, cheese not melted and very lackluster. Egg meal was delivered good, wrong toast. I have been wanting to try this place for a while but I was stuck going to my go to Mexican food spot. Well let me tell you this is now my go to Mexican food spot. Service: This place wrote the book on service. In the valley never have I gone to a place where all the servers looked happy and we're smiling and friendly. Tony was our server and this guy could have taught a class on being a server. He was training a young lady as there could be no better teacher and I was a former server so I know a bit. Tony knew our pace and took care of all our needs and was really friendly and willing to spend time to connect with us. Managers take note this dude is a rockstar. Food: Chips were amazing. They actually make fresh chips. I get so bummed when I go places and get standard bagged chips. Salsa: Great Flavored Mild Salsa. No heat just easy eat. Tacos: I had a ground beef, carne asada, and a carnitas taco and all were good. They were well out together and food flavored. Rice was solid and beans were good. Margaritas: I had a pineapple jalapeno and it was fantastic. Tried the Cadillac as my wife ordered it and it was very good as well. Good balance of flavor and strength. When it's hot in the desert, it's always nice to enjoy a few margaritas for happy hour and TQLAS is the place to make it happen if you're in La Quinta. Because it's summer, it wasn't crowded at all. First time ever having chicken tikka tacos, I have to give them props because to be honest I actually loved it. But pro tip they need to add cilantro to give it that true authentic chicken tikka taste. I asked for a side of cilantro and damn it was really good. Wish there were 3 tacos instead of 2. The rice and beans were average. The fettuccine Alfredo was good and I loved the chips and salsa. My recommendation to them is probably have the chips sit out a little more so they aren't drenched with oil. I noticed a lot of oil on the chips. This weekend I took my mom out to get her nails done and treated her to lunch at The Cove, we are Mexican, and we eat mainly home-cooked food, so I understand this makes us automatically hard critics. We had Guacamole with chips which we scored an 8/10 due to the freshness of it. The Enchiladas De Mole and the fish tacos scored a 3/10 for us. My mom and I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong, but it was almost as if the flavors were not married together. The enchilada's sweetness was a little too potent, but we understand mole is a hard one to nail, which is why a lot of Mexican restaurants don't serve it. But a fish taco?! I didn't think a fish taco could go wrong. We were told we could not mix and match tacos even though one of our three menus said you could as well as the display menu at the entrance of the restaurant (picture). However, we were told we could order one taco a la cart to try them. Thus, we ordered a chorizo taco which clearly says on the menu (picture attached) comes with beans on it. When it arrived there were no beans - when we asked why there were no beans she aggressively said it doesn't come with it - grabbed a menu to say "I told you so" just to see it says beans then explained that a la cart doesn't... as you can see in the picture - plate tacos come with a side of rice and beans, but the actual chorizo taco is supposed to have them ON it + sides if you order that. After arguing - she begrudgingly offered to get the beans but after being treated this way we said no thank you for a response of, "well then what was the point sweetie?"
