Let me start this with I have not had the most positive experience with electricians in my 7 years in Scotch Plains. I have now had the first one come to my home that I will recommend to anyone. Tower Electric responded to my plea to repair whatever electrical issue had caused the heating element in my dryer to burn out 3 times in a year. Yes, I had other licensed electricians who allegedly fixed the problem but here I was yet a third time. I called Tower because of their reviews. I was not disappointed. I am very happy to have used Tower for the installation of some new wall sconces, which required replacing two electrical boxes. This is my first Yelp review in years but I felt compelled to write one for Dave because of how pleased I was with his work. My wife and I moved into a new home in Scotch Plains a few months ago an were quickly overwhelmed with the amount of electrical work needed. We had an electrician come out from one of the big companies (found on yelp with the most reviews) to give us an estimate and got a price tag of over $3000. We obviously couldn't afford that (first-time home buyer issues), so we got a second opinion. We called Dave who came out a couple days later and gave us an estimate that was about 10%-20% of the big company. He completed the work that day and once he was finished we asked him to do a few more things which we imagined we wouldn't be able to afford right away. Not only could we afford them with Dave, he came out the next day and completed the work. Very pleased with the work. Highly recommend. Dave was extremely easy to contact and communicate with. He was able to accommodate us within a day or so of contacting him, and he got the job done quickly and professionally. We needed a doorbell wire run to our front door from the basement, which was difficult because the masonry behind the walls does not line up. Drilling straight down became problematic because of this. Dave was able to figure out a solution that was minimally invasive, and got our doorbell wire, transformer, and chime installed without any major damage to the entirely finished house (including the basement). There was a legitimate problem with one of the units and he returned back with a replacement and had it installed in no time. Requested quote/services for chandelier installation via telephone. Dave is very knowledgeable. Has competitive pricing. Dave was punctual and arrived with Nick. Together they opened up an A-Frame ladder to mount our 36 inch chandelier in an 18 FT foyer. Dave was conscientious and protected our newly installed wood floors without even asking him to do so. They unmounted an existing crystal light fixture. As our luck would have it, our appliance delivery arrived 4 hours ahead of schedule. Dave and Nick closed the ladder to allow entry for the refrigerator. Dave was very gracious about this conflict. They resumed by mounting a medallion, glued, screwed and caulked. Once the new fixture was mounted, Dave wanted us to make sure we were satisfied with the height and had us view from outside the home. The work was completed thoroughly and neatly. Dave and Steve helped me some existing light fixture/wiring problems in my new house, and hung a new light that now works with a switch, and they replaced a fan box with a recessed light in a new location. I was really impressed that from a bad photo, Dave showed up with a ceiling can that fit perfectly and was perfectly prepared for all of the work, which involved going up in an attic and pulling wire. I really appreciated his communication and responsiveness, and he was the first contractor in my house that I did not have to sit wondering if he was arriving. Both he and Steve even took off their shoes and were so careful with my new wood floors and overly friendly cat. He answered questions I had about wiring and did not make me feel stupid. His prices are extremely reasonable and he works fast but careful. Here's a tip, never hire someone who wants 150 bucks just to check out your job, Dave showed up with a worker to do the rough electrical, he stayed for awhile, then left to get material he needed leaving his helper who didn't speaking english to finish the job. left with a check for half the total as well as the 150, and when the inspector came , he told me it would be best to install a sub panel. OK , i called Dave to let him know, he never returned my calls after that, and did not come to complete the work. Not a man of his word, So basically charged me almost a grand for part of his day, and his unlicensed helpers day, and some wires.
