I have been a costumer since August of 2018, and have been paying $ 57.76 a month for the platinum service contract. I recently had an issue when the generator would not start for its weekly test cycle. I called Bold and a service person came to see what was wrong. He noticed immediately that the input gas lever was half closed ( my fault). He opened the gas lever, and started the generator. He turned it off and said that was the problem. He was here all of 10 minutes. I then got a bill for $220.00, really $ 187.66, because of my service contract. To summarize, I would have gladly paid a reasonable amount, but having paid close to $ 5000. for the service contract. It seems to me that Bold was foolish to let me cancel the maintenance plan, rather than charging a more reasonable amount for the service call. It is really a shame, because it is a great company but has too rigid billing practices. read more

We decided to go with Bold Electric to check our generator that was not working properly. Bold Electric made an assessment and they determined that it needed to be replaced in its entirely. Based on the good reviews, we decided to trust them... and our problems started. They replaced the generator with a brand new Kohler one, after one month, we got an outage... and the generator did not start. We called them and they showed up 2 days later. After that, we discovered that the only benefit you have with their maintenance "monthly service" is that they will "prioritize" you in case of an outage, but they still charge you a lot of money for the service. That was strike one. In another outage, the generator started, but the power went up and down, not constant... we had to call them again (after 2 months); they "fixed it" but in the next power test the generator did the same. Called them again and they fixed it once again (this is a new generator, installed by them). Strike two. Next power outage, generator did not turned on, they came by and it was determined the switch was damaged... they had to replace it, they charged us 700 (Again, this was a new generator, supposedly a whole new system was installed). Strike three and out; we cancelled our maintenance plan agreement and guess what? Now the switch is malfunctioning, and it is not allowing power from anywhere but the generator... this was replaced less than a year ago and they want to charge us 800 just to come and check. Please be careful with this company, I have not seen this dishonesty ever. read more

Over the weekend I had a significant generator issue and I called Bold. I was not an existing customer and my location was a bit far out of their service area. Mike returned my call and scheduled an emergency service visit. Isaac (the technician) immediately came out and was wonderful. Had Bold Electric install a whole house generator 7 years ago. I'm on the Platinum maintenance plan so they swing by twice a year to do maintenance. Fortunately, we haven't run into another Hurricane Sandy but we have occasional outages and the generator kicks in. Vincent does a great job with this company - highly recommend. read more

I was in need of a new electrical panel for my older home and also wanted to have a transfer switch installed for my portable generator. A friend recommended Bold Electric after he had a good experience with a generator install through them. The owner (Vincent) was able to come out and evaluate my situation within a day or two. He was extremely quick to turnaround a written quote (which for some reason is too much to ask from so many contractors). He also pointed out some things I had not considered when I purchased the generator. I appreciated his quick call backs and patience to explain why I needed what i needed (such as new grounding wires etc). On the day of install, Vincent arrived with his crew and made sure everyone was in agreement with what was needed and then his guys got to work. I appreciated that he himself came out to ensure things were going to be done properly. There was no confusion that way. The guys finished the job cleanly and professionally. I appreciated them taking the time to not only show me how to hook up my generator to the new panel/transfer switch, but explaining the best practices of keeping my generator working properly. Given that I did not purchase the generator from them (not even the brand that they sell), they did not have to do that so I was happy they went above and beyond. The best part is that of the 3-4 quotes I got, these guys were by far the lowest price. Anyone needing electrical work around central NJ should definitely give these guys a call. Even the township electrical inspector mentioned how their work is always very good. I just wish I knew about them sooner! read more

Steer clear of this company for generator installations and electrical work. They installed a 2 ton Kohler whole house generator at my home and the problems started one month after the install. Over the past 5 years, my generator failed to start in several power outages during snow storms and hurricanes so that high priced machine and the high price I paid to have it installed were useless. With no power, I cant open my garage doors and I don't have phone service. They also sold me an extended warranty after the 3 year Kohler warranty ended making me think that this was also a Kohler extension. Kohler didn't offer an extended warranty at that time. Bold was never able to diagnose the generator problems after charging me many times for service and providing many bogus reasons for the malfunctions of the machine. Additionally, I requested electrical service to change outlets in front of my home. When the technician arrived I explained the type of outlet I wanted installed. He proceeded to install the exact type of outlet that was already there and told me they didn't make the outlet I wanted. They then charged me to install a product that I didn't want. And I even sent the owner a photo of the outlet that I want which is available in Lowes. read more

They are dishonest and they are thieves, avoid them at all costs. My mother in-law has a 9 year old top of the line Kohler generator that was installed by them and serviced by them without issue until this Spring (2022) when they told her that it needed $2,200 in repairs due to a natural gas problem and ants in the control panel. They said that when they turned it on, it immediately turned off and they could not get it to start up again due to the problems noted above. Two days later the unit started up at it's regularly scheduled time for exercising and it ran perfectly for the 30 minutes that it is supposed to. My mother-in-law went into panic mode because they had told her that there was a serious issue with gas service to the generator and she was extremely concerned about a fire or an explosion. I told her that I was very skeptical about what they had told her and that if there was a serious gas problem they would turned the gas service off to the unit, and the electrical service to it, to ensure that it didn't attempt to start. I then called another local generator service company to inspect the unit who did a full inspection and said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I terminated the service agreement with Bold and hired this new generator company for the yearly service. As the new service company technitian was leaving he said "I saw the Bold sticker on your unit, did they by chance tell you that you needed a bunch of repairs and then try to sell you a new generator? " I said, yes exactly, why? To which he replied "because you are about the 30 person that I've gotten calls from with a similar story about Bold. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau about Bold next. read more
