I just now had two incredible technicians come and install a new air conditioner in our home.. To say that they were absolutely AWESOME would be an understatement. THEY WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE, MANNERLY, VERY NEAT AND KNEW EXACLTY WHAT THEY WERE DOING... I have had many people work on different projects in our home(owned for over forty years), but we have almost NEVER seen techs like these guys!!!!!!!!! Unless you like interacting with rude people, don't choose Berkeley Heating & Air. I had to cancel my original appointment for a free estimate on my repairs. After confirming this cancellation with the receptionist, the estimator arrived to my house anyway (late and without wearing a mask). He was extremely rude upon arrival, doubting that I had even called to cancel in the first place. When I apologized to him, that I had already canceled, he said, "That didn't happen." I seriously do not recommend doing business with these people. How could you trust a company that does not trust its own customers? read more

I usually regret having to call professionals when i can try and tinker myself. Being somewhat new to the NJ area, i have to rely on word of mouth of neighbors and friends to try new people. When my old air conditioner pooped, i got nervous. If i were home in Philadelphia i know many a person who could help me fix it or for a decent "cash price" could install a new unit for me. When I'm in NJ however...well you have to roll the dice....I was recommended this HVAC group by the people in my condo association. They came out immediately and they spent a good 2 hours taking things apart and fixing things. A normal company would have simply been like you need a new unit or something so expensive like a compressor but this guy found the two problems, that it was a fuse and and a capacitor. I appreciate paying for honest work and not just a group looking to make some money. This is refreshing. If your in the area and you need AC/Heating work, then give this company a try. read more

I have used this company for many years and have to say the they are the best. The integrity, knowledge and service they provide is excellent. On a scale of 1-10 this company is a 10 by far. The receptionist was amazing. She saw that my calls and questions were answered within hours. I even got a call from the technician while he as on another job. Had my A/C replaced 10 years ago by Berkeley Heating. Have a problem with the condenser this 10th summer. Called BH and they find a pinhole leak in the condenser. Ok, I understand that it's 10 seasons old but when I contact other companies for quotes all 4 of them after looking at my system, tell me the line set that's currently installed is too thin for this condenser and air handler. That was the copper line used for a R22 system and this is a R410a system. Should have been replaced when this system was replaced 10 years ago and might be the reason you have a pin hole leak as the two refrigerants shouldn't be mixed as it creates an acid condition that leads to... Pin hole leaks in the copper. 10 years ago they said they would replace then entire system. They didn't, copper was at an all time high $$ and they reused the existing copper line set to save themselves the cash. Interesting that the 4 quotes that I've received 11 years later are all about the same to what they charged me so many years ago and that's to replace everything including rerunning a new line set from the handler to the condenser. I'll reluctantly pay the service fee they ended up charging me to find the pin hole leak. read more

Just got off the phone with the receptionist. She presents herself as an all knowing HVAC specialist. She's actually just rude and argumentative. We were asked by our landlord to contact them regarding our town home not cooling down. We had them out to assess what appears to be a grossly undersized AC unit according to the receptionist/HVAC specialist. They then told my wife that it wasn't working properly because there was something stacked by the outside unit. This was not accurate but we had no choice but to follow their recommendation. You can look at the unit and see it's to small for the space it needs to cool. They took no temperature readings and made no attempt to give us a straight answer. We did get a new filter though. I guess that was supposed to fix the problem. The receptionist/HVAC specialist just kept arguing and debating with us. She was condescending and just horribly rude. Pretty shady company if you ask me. My home is still 80 degrees. Highly recommend finding another company if you want good customer service. Literally the rudest receptionist I have EVER encountered. I am not sure why the reviews here are bad. These guys have come to our house when called and they come and do a thorough job. We have been using Berkeley heating and air for over 20 years. We have lived all over and they have come to every house that we have ever had and fixed any issue that we have ever had including setups. They have always been reasonably priced, prompt and professional. read more

The best. In addition to,telling people they don't need repairs others have said they do, they are competitive and so honest. Today in blistering heat they left a job to help,with an analysis that they could have named their price and gave a clean diagnosis instead. Refreshing. Our AC unit finally gave out after almost 30'years (!!!) - naturally this was during the 97 degree heat wave. I called a person from town that came heavily recommended on the Facebook board for or community. We talked about a new unit, he pushed some off brand thing and then quoted me a number over the phone. Then came and looked and made it $1k more...then when we agreed he said he quoted it wrong and wanted another $500. So we cut ties with him and called Berkeley Heating and AC. Got a quote the same day for $1500 less than the other guy and for the installation of Trane equipment. The team got here promptly at 8 am and was done with a full unit and cool replacement before noon. They setup. A new pad, moved the location so everything was up to latest code and cleaned up everything from the old machine and hauled it away for us. Thank you guys for great service and quick work! read more

Tried to get our air conditioning unit fixed, and they had to send two separate technicians because the first one did a completely inadequate job: did not diagnose the problem correctly and not even half an hour after he left, the problem persisted. The second technician was more competent in that he actually fixed the A.C. but did not leave any notes or paperwork regarding billing, only saying that he would "talk to the office about it." Completely unprofessional and now the receptionist says he "left notes" about the service that day, which were not mailed to us at any point. Receptionist is also rude, unhelpful, and talks over you whenever you try to speak or explain why you are calling. Does not listen and simply repeats her own points over and over. Ridiculous that a business like this is still operating. read more

I don't normally post reviews, but I had such a positive experience and believe these guys deserve a shout out for a job well done. Our air conditioner condenser broke down last weekend and it was very warm. We contacted Berkeley on Monday morning and they came that afternoon to assess the unit. The service tech, Ben, was amazing! He explained the pros and cons of repairing vs replacing to us. We only had this unit for 7 years, but had ongoing problems for years. He recommended and we agreed to replace the unit with a Trane. The following day, Ben and his team installed a 4 ton unit in only a few hours. They were professional, courteous and knowledgeable, a rare find these days. My home has never felt this cool, in fact, we needed a sweat shirt at some point and raised the temperature! Our old unit worked much harder and was much less efficient. We are glad we decided to replace vs repair and so so thrilled with the level of service from Berkeley. They are returning later this fall to repair duct work. I would highly recommend Berkeley Heating and Air Condtioning for all your HVAC needs. read more

Watch out after they sell you they disappear. Service not what I expected,buyer beware

Our HVAC died on Friday, right before the long July 4th holiday weekend, and the first company we called (the ones who had the sticker on our HVAC system) said they couldn't be out until Tuesday. The second group we called came out on Friday afternoon, diagnosed a necessary part replacement, and then quoted us over $2k to get and install the broken part!! Wanting a second opinion, we looked for authorized Trane dealers and called Berkeley on Saturday. Recognizing that it was a long weekend, they made room for us in their schedule that afternoon (Saturday) and diagnosed the same part.... and quoted us less than half even with expedited shipping! I wasn't expecting to have AC at all this week, but the part was ordered yesterday, arrived this morning, and was installed this afternoon. THANK YOU GUYS!! As an added bonus - they informed me that they believe our particular HVAC is less than 10 years old and the part we needed might still be under warranty, so they're going to check serial numbers to see if we can save even more (we've only lived in this house for 4 years). Wonderful service, prompt attention, thoroughly knowledgable, and I loved that they took the time to explain what was broken in our system and what needed to be replaced (and what didn't!). And I never expected or experienced a service company like this going out of their way to try and save us extra money by spending time messing with warranties. Definitely recommend! read more
