I am deeply disappointed by our experience this past Saturday. What began as a pleasant Mother's Day dinner was completely ruined by an unnecessary and aggressive confrontation from staff employees. The Incident: My daughter joined me and her sister at our table for less than ten minutes while she waited for her own separate reservation in the same dining room. When I attempted to order her a single drink, our waiter's demeanor shifted instantly. He became abruptly rude, insisting the table be "re-coded" for three people, and refused to listen when we explained she was leaving for her own table momentarily. He then involved the hostess, who was equally dismissive and unprofessional. Lack of Hospitality: The situation was handled with zero grace. It made us--and even the guests at the neighboring table--extremely uncomfortable. In fact, the nearby guests vocally agreed that the staff's reaction was entirely out of proportion. The Aftermath: Following the confrontation, we were handed off to a different server who was already overextended. As a result, we spent the rest of the evening being largely ignored. As someone who consistently tips 30-40%, I am saddened that such a lack of basic respect was shown to my family. To borrow a phrase: it was a "Big Mistake." read more

Very disappointing experience at Sunset Tower Hotel Restaurant. We had a 6:45 PM reservation and called ahead to let them know we'd arrive at 6:58 PM. Instead of being accommodated within a reasonable grace period, we were met with repeated warnings about a two-hour time limit before we had even sat down. Upon arrival, we were sent to wait in an overcrowded bar with no space to sit or stand and left there for over 20 minutes--despite multiple empty tables clearly visible in the dining room. After having to follow up ourselves, we were finally seated, only to be reminded yet again of the time limit. At that point, it felt less like a courtesy and more like a message: hurry up. The front-of-house staff came across as cold, unwelcoming, and unnecessarily condescending. While our server was polite, the overall tone of the experience had already been set--and it was not a hospitable one. We finished in about an hour and fifteen minutes and left without dessert simply because we no longer wanted to stay. For a restaurant with this reputation, the lack of basic warmth and professionalism is surprising. Los Angeles has no shortage of excellent restaurants that know how to treat their guests properly. The bar ambiance is stunningly 1920s elegant, immediately making you feel as if you're about to be graced by a Hollywood golden era actor or actress. I've lived in LA forever, but didn't make it here till this month, for my birthday dinner. It was okay, and I was happy to check it off my "classic Hollywood experiences" list, but I don't see myself ever returning. Service was fine, though we waited too long for the check. Very loud live music in the evenings. It's a compact, dark space. No pictures are allowed in the restaurant. You can valet for $20. The drinks were okay; we had two of their specialty cocktails. I would have ordered a martini, but they weren't listed on the menu - obviously they could make one, but this was not the place I was going to roll the dice with a mystery charge, and there was no way I was asking how much it would be, like a backwoods bumpkin. The food was truly not very good. My boyfriend enjoyed his pork chop, spinach, and mashed potatoes, but he has a McDonald's palette. I had the lobster tacos, and the lobster tasted weird...kind of like how sewage smells. I ordered a piece of cheesecake for my birthday cake, and it was the most bland cheesecake I've ever had. They also were aware it was my birthday, but I received no fanfare - not that that would have made the experience any less underwhelming and disappointing. If you can get past the mediocrity and rigid rules, this might be an okay place for classy date night drinks or a catch-up with friends, but there are scads of other places around LA I'd choose first. read more

But mentioned in most of reviews, "martinis" were disappointing. Not all bartenders are skilled and know how to mix some worldwide-known cocktails. So, it was an interesting experience to explain to a bartender how to mix a Pornstar Martini. BTW, they hadn't half of the ingredients for the cocktail :( Also, note that their cocktails are overpriced. But, bartenders are getting 7 out of 10. Only at the lounge area. Hospitality, professionalism, and communication. Food is 2 out of 10. The saddest tartare and steak salads in my life. Oysters were fresh. Thanks Employees are nice. But you can wait for a waiter forever, or he will ping you every couple of minutes about "ready to order?". Also, the easiest way to summon a waiter: take a picture of food! Any pictures are prohibited. Not bad for the experience, if you are going to the lounge bar, or asking for a dinner reservation at a table near the window to see the city. We hosted a large triple-birthday dinner and drinks here and spent several thousand dollars. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined by how we were treated by the staff, particularly security. From the moment we arrived, the "security team" was rude, unwelcoming, and excessively aggressive. We were approached every 2-5 minutes with rules about where we couldn't stand, sit, or even briefly lean. Hugging a friend who had just arrived or momentarily blocking a walkway resulted in immediate, aggressive policing. One security guard in the lounge area was especially inappropriate to the point is felt personal. He was on us within seconds, and immediately would bark at someone standing in the way for a moment, treating us like we were children. He was also mouthy and disrespectful toward two guests. The constant surveillance created a tense, uncomfortable atmosphere that kept up through our dinner service. This is an old weho hotel bar, not a nightclub requiring heavy-handed crowd control. The "security team" takes themselves way too seriously, and it completely detracted from what should have been a joyful celebration. He even came over when we were singing happy birthday to scold us. It was ridiculous. Another birthday table was there and they never once got any flack from him. I've planned company events here before without any issues, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Based on how we were treated, I will not be returning or recommending this establishment. Weho has many great restaurants with inspiring menus and kind staff. This place has none of that. read more

I was very excited to finally go to Tower Bar after hearing about it for years. I would say my experience was a solid 3, for a few reasons. 1) My reservation was at 7:15. My friend and I arrived at 7:10. We were seated at 7:35. 2) While attentive before we ordered, our waiter basically disappeared afterward. We never had our water glasses refilled, we weren't checked on for at least 45 minutes after receiving our appetizer, we sat with empty drink glasses for at least an hour before being asked if we wanted another. 3) Speaking of appetizers, we ordered two -- the deviled eggs and the beet salad. The beet salad came and it was okay, honestly nothing special. We never got the deviled eggs. No mention of them, no apology for them not coming out. Luckily they weren't on the final bill, so I guess the waiter's attentiveness extended to not ever putting them in at all, even though it looked like he wrote it down. Oh well. 4) We got the create your own sundae. The ice cream was completely melted in the glass when it was set on the table. I spooned up a few bites of ice cream water with whipped cream, but that was a huge disappointment. 5) I know drink prices have increased dramatically in LA, but they were EXPENSIVE. An espresso martini was $25 and a glass of Sancerre was $27. Yikes. For an appetizer, two entrees, four drinks, and a dessert, we each paid $160. For this experience, I just don't think it was worth it. Glad I checked it out, would maybe sit in the bar area for a drink sometime, but won't be back for dinner. read more

Celebrating an Anniversary with my boyfriend and the staff at Tower Bar did not disappoint! Specifically Bobbi (sorry if spelling it wrong!) and Angel. Bobbi was our hostess but went really above and beyond to give us information on the hotel because she found out I'm a Ben Siegel and old Hollywood fan. Angel was our waiter and he was so professional and wonderful to us. He brought us some *amazing* cookies to mark our special occasion. I can't tell you enough great things about those 2 individuals. Our food and drinks were top notch as well! Compliments to the bartender and cooks! If you're trying to step back into the golden age and be treated like a star, 10/10 would recommend the Tower Bar. I finally got to dine at Tower Bar, a Hollywood classic as I understand. Despite the history, I was underwhelmed by the experience, mostly because I think they are understaffed and the space is too small for the amount of people that come here during peak hours. I already expected to pay a ton of money and that wasn't a shocker. You order a side salad and it's, like, $35. haha. But I was surprised how unaccommodating it was to be seated elbow-to-elbow with the next table the entire dinner. And it was so dark, I couldn't see what I was eating. Before dinner, they didn't have my reservation ready, so I waited in their crowded lounge/bar where I couldn't find a seat, so I crammed myself between a small group on one of the couches in the most uncomfortable seating arrangement that made everyone annoyed. The poor server and bartender looked overworked. On the positive side, it looked like a cool museum inside and I did see some B and C level celebrities there, so this is still a Hollywood spot. Now would I come here ever again? No. Once was enough. After $430-ish for a dinner for two, I'm good. That's, like, 2 trips to Costco! Cute in casual Hotel bar if you're looking for something else Sunset boulevard. My fiance wanted to stop by here from a previous experience he had a few years back. Said it looked different, but we still enjoyed a few cocktails at the bar. It has a very classy, intimate, and upscale vibe. There's also no flash photography. The location is great, right on Sunset and very convenient for the Comedy Store etc. you have to valet but thank goodness because street parking around there is horrible and the valets were great. The desk/lobby staff were nice but a bit stuffy/snooty. The server we had was a great guy. So friendly and helpful and well organized. The food was excellent. We shared a few appetizers which were all good and I had the lamb as a main which was very good and perfectly cooked. The dirty martini I had was very good and my partner had a g&t with Monkey47 gin so bravo for carrying that! It's a lovely clubby atmosphere but very dark! Ate breakfast at the Sunset Tower Hotel for the first time, and had a solid waffle. The berries were fresh and juicy, and the waffle had the perfect crisp and wasn't too dense--however, it wasn't anything mindblowing. The cappuccino was very good, I would recommend ordering it! What stood out to me the most was definitely the interior. The outdoor patio was stunning, and the indoor seating area made me feel like I was in a movie. We came in with a confirmed OpenTable reservation, but they claimed they couldn't find it--even though I had the confirmation in hand. When a friend joined us last minute, a waiter literally dragged her chair and told her she couldn't sit there. It was incredibly rude and embarrassing. I'm a little delayed in my Sunset Tower Bar review, and it's due to the fact that while it was good, it just wasn't great enough for me to make a priority. This most recent visit, I had been here for lunch, choosing my typical seat at the bar. Hostess was very nice, letting me sit anywhere as she provided the menu. Bartender was a nice younger guy who was semi-attentive throughout the meal. I was trying to narrow my choices down, finally going with the classic club sandwich-minus the egg-with fries. What first annoyed me was a lady sitting in an area in the corner closest to me, alone, and I heard her go through three (LOUD) different phone calls. Although I know how to read and know that photography/calls are supposedly looked down upon, she didn't care, and sadly, neither did the staff as I saw a couple of employees in suits walk by her without acknowledging this. I guess 'the rules' they had originally set up are now out of date? Regardless, I moved my seat down the other end of the bar since I could, and I guess I was thankful that this annoying woman had two guests finally show up so she could get off her phone and talk in a normal tone. As for the food, it came out within 15 minutes, and to be honest, I expected the Tower Bar to have an excellent club sandwich, but this didn't reach those expectations. The bacon could have been cooked a little more, while the chicken (little that was actually on the sandwich) was cool to lukewarm. The tomato and avocado was fine, while the dijon aioli was a little overwhelming. Fries-I went with the regular and not truffle-were okay; this was something I was able to finish off. The only dessert offered during this time is the cookies: chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin. I went with the former and this was nice and warm from what I assume was straight from the oven. I'd say this was actually worth the $4. Service overall was polite, slightly lacking as when I went to look for him a couple of times, he was nowhere to be found. Although we were solo at the bar, I suppose he had to attend to the surrounding area which is understandable, and he appeared to be working alone as well. When I did have his attention he was nice and got everything correct I requested. Hostess was very kind as well, giving me specific names of people to reach out to in case I wanted to make a future reservation. Although this visit wasn't the best food-wise, I would be willing to try the Tower Bar once again, but will definitely order something else that I was considering this time around (bread basket+salad, maybe give in to their burger, etc.). (This 4 star rating is a gift to this place, probably because I am in a holiday mood. I am going to unpack my Thanksgiving experience there, below. This will take nuance and finesse because there is a lot to consider in giving them my rating. I will be generous but honest, because I want people who read my reviews to feel they are equipped to make the decision to go, or not, accurately.) We have friends who know the area quite well and have exacting standards of their own and I trust their having selected the Tower Bar for a festive Thanksgiving out. Their experiences there may differ from mine, one reason for which is the fact that I am a vegetarian lifer and expect certain things from a meal. Ambience: no question, clubby, intimate, sophisticated. If you sit near a window at sunset and thereafter, you will have a spectacular view of all of Los Angeles laid out in its celebrated glitter. However, it was so dark that, had I not already studied the menu and made my selections a priori, I would have been unable to see anything on that sheet. Since one is discouraged from breaking out a phone, I could not use my phone light. The one candle on the table was insufficient to illuminate the faint writing on that menu. They have to find a way to raise the lighting. Are they worried that a high profile figure will be outed? Any staffer could quash inappropriate star-stricken behavior. They don't need to shroud those celebs to keep them from those of us who dropped a bundle to be there, more on that below. Service: friendly, professional, not too warm or fuzzy (OK, no need for cosseting me), responsive and gracious. Good, it should be like that at an elevated venue like this. Swift valet parking, greeters immediately, all smiling -- great! Food: Ah! Here is a sticky wicket. I barely saw the bread basket that came -- the one tiny piece of baguette I had was not fresh, unremarkable, not home-made, in my opinion. Each member of our party ordered something different. Among the dishes were a turkey dinner, a steak combo with fries, Branzino with Brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes, and a vegan vegetable and quinoa "entree". I didn't hear anyone enconomiumizing any of it. In fact, one person rightly pointed out that the frying oil being canola is a no-no. It is a throwback to earlier times when people paid little attention to heart health, among other things. Let's talk about my selections. There was a prix fixe set menu for Thanksgiving dinner. There were only two items I could have from the main dish list: a vegan burger with potatoes or a vegetable mix. I chose the latter. It was composed of lightly cooked carrots, string beans, tomatoes and a dark version of quinoa. The three vegetables would have been lovely as a side dish. The quinoa -- aka the protein part of this plate -- was taste-free. Knowing that it might be like this, I had already had the deviled egg appetizer that consisted of three eggs, halved, the yolk having been seasoned and creamed. They were very good, as deviling goes. There was an acceptable, but not special pumpkin pie for dessert (as well as a chocolate lava-type choice or cookies, the latter being strange for this kind of experience, imho). I want to tell the chef something: vegans and especially vegetarians to do not dine on rabbit food. This was clearly the limit of whoever designed this menu's understanding of non-meat fare. I have been completely meatless for four decades and I assure you, the last time I had quasi-raw vegetables as my main dish had to be forty years ago at my dad's country club. Either this is ignorance or unmindfulness, as there is vast and deep information available on how to construct a nutritious and delicious vegan or vegetarian entree, in 2023. This entire episode may have something to do with the special holiday menu, or dinner, or some other factor of which I am unaware, but it was disappointing to put it mildly. Since we were with excellent company, the meal was lighthearted, lively, enjoyable and successful. Tower Bar is a pretty place with pretty people. But, for $250 pp, I expected more. It is easily remediable. Let's recap: * raise the lighting a degree or two so people can appreciate their party, the menu, and the lovely decor * do a little research and learn what vegans and vegetarians actually eat regularly. I could write an encylopedic treatise on this subject and I am not a chef! I am a boomer and even I know that, much less the generations that follow who are quite hip to this dietary regimen *switch to olive oil *raise the quality of the bread *don't offer cookies at any holiday meal -- certainly not as the paid dessert, put them in a little box as a courtesy, especially at these prices -- how about pecan or walnut pie instead? 3 feels harsh, I would give them 3.5 stars overall because I think the food overall deserves a 3, service is a 5, and the Dirty Martini is a 5. I would say ambiance and service is better than the food considerately. I had the branzino (generally my favorite and always good) was ehhh okay- but got $50+, I was hoping for more than "just okay" The deviled eggs were fine. The buildable Sundae was fun but I don't think they used quality ingredients. If a restaurant doesn't have an innovative menu, it's fine, as long what's on the menu is executed well, using the freshest quality ingredients- which for these prices, this shouldn't be compromised. I would probably choose the Polo Lounge over here for similar ambiance. Maybe I should stop by the tryout brunch or lunch, dinner was underwhelming. I have found myself more inclined to come here for the bar, and catch up over a few Martinis that Quentin makes, while I catch up with my friend. I've stayed at the hotel several times and have always appreciated the beautiful pool, prime location, and the overall sense of safety. I also used to genuinely enjoy the bar. However, I've recently noticed a shift in the bar's atmosphere. On multiple occasions, I've encountered individuals who seem out of place in such an upscale setting--for example, women posing as wealthy guests who are clearly engaging in transactional behavior, or a man claiming to be a lawyer who appears to frequent the bar solely to solicit clients, later following up with persistent sales emails. The bar is also very dimly lit, which adds to the sense of discomfort--guests should be mindful of their belongings. Many of these individuals appear to be deliberately "catfishing," trying to project affluence in order to blend in. A similar vibe carried over to the pool area. I overheard a group of four people casually admit they weren't even hotel guests--they had walked over from the Andaz Hotel across the street, where the pool closes earlier. This raised additional concerns about access and safety. Given the circumstances, it may be worth considering a more selective door policy, or requiring reservations, to help preserve the tranquil and secure environment that guests value in both the bar and pool areas. read more

Had such an amazing time, walked up to the front and doors were opened for me and my guests, we sat in the lounge only for a couple minutes to wait for our table outside. Got a beautiful seat with a beautiful view of the city. Perfect time to be here was at 6:30pm when it's cooling down and sun setting, nice and cool. Ordered the bread assortment, delicious! Along with tuna tartar and pig in a blanket. It was so filling I almost couldn't order dinner, but I had the chicken pot pie. The layer on top was amazing, a croissant topping covering my pie. Great time. Also, our server, Kaley; she did an amazing job, very welcoming and friendly. Was very attentive and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed.
